Ariaga was on the run for two days before being captured as he tried to flea back to mexico. Six of them were in the us illegally. President had been arrested for drunk driving in 2011 and again in 2014. So, President Trump is addressing the issue. And i just hope that it will be taken care of. Martha i want to the play a little bit from the day on december the 28th, your brother was killed by someone who was here illegally, and who had two dui arrests and was purported to be a member of a gang. He is the alleged killer, i should say at this stage of the process. This is part of that news conference. Lets play that. I wish i could thank all the Law Enforcement agencies, Homeland Security in san francisco, everyone, if i could speak to you, i was waiting for this to happen. And you know, suspect has been apprehended. And you know, people worked, a lot of Law Enforcement worked days and nights to make that happen. It was heart breaking. My the point is why are we providing sanctuary for criminals . Gang members . Its a conversation we need to have. Martha its so hard to watch, reggie. Obviously its been such a difficult, difficult time for you and your family tell me. Tell me how your family came here and how you felt when you realized that the person who was responsible did not go through the same process. So my family, we migrated in 2003. We got sponsored and we did everything legally. We came here, we were green card holders. And after five years my brother, in my brothers case, go he was asked to get his citizenship in order to become to be part of Law Enforcement. And he got his citizenship. And i was able to get my citizenship also. And we were we are now american, law abiding american citizenship holders. And the day i found out that the suspect was illegal immigrant and had prior duis, go two duis, my question was that why we did not react the first time he had a dui . If hes an illegal immigrant . And i feel like we shouldnt be giving people Second Chance. Illegal immigrants, we shouldnt be giving Second Chance to them. If he would have been deported, my brother would be alive right now. I would not be doing this interview. What i truly feel about this, is you know, if we make our immigration laws stricter, if we take action, and not allow an illegal immigrant to get Second Chance, i think that, you know, we could minimize the crime rate we are having. Martha you know i know he was just recently became a canine officer. And i understand that the dog that he worked with, he was very close to. That dog is going to be given to the family, his wife and his young child, i assume. Talk to me a little bit about them, how theyre doing. Give everybody a sense of all that. Because sam feels like that he needs to step up and protect the family now. So if anyone, if my uncle or aunt tries to play with the baby, sam does not like it. Sam feels like that you know ron is not here, ive got for protect the family now, because sam is fully aware that ron is not here. And our mourning, you know, starts with crying. I dont know what happens next. Look the president laid out a very compelling case last night. The idea that Border Security, national security, Human Trafficking and drugs flowing over our southern border are somehow now a political football is wrong. Frankly it is political in 2013 all 54 Senate Democrats voted for 40 plus billion dollars of Border Security, including 700 miles of fencing. The only reason theres opposition is because its donald trump that is proposing this. One of my predecessors and one of the fox contractors Ari Fleischer had a great idea. Nancy pelosi and trump and schumer should give all the money to the Border Patrol and say they get to decide what goes on. Because the reality is that anybody with a brain will recognize we need a combination of border wall and fencing along the southern border that we have, thats always been a by partisan issue. If we take trumps name out of it, if we called it the schumer Border Security bill they would probably pass it. The only reason theyre against it is because its trump. Martha they dont seem to be in favor of real Border Security point. When you look at the left of their party, nancy pelosi and Chuck Schumer sort of represent a kind of language that used to be spoken quite a bit on the part of democrats that they wanted Border Security. Youre not hearing that the way that you used to. Because i think theyre getting a lot of pressure from folks who are further left on the spectrum than they are. They cant talk like that any more. Thats right. You look, nancy pelosi almost didnt become speaker when there was no one running against her martha right. Because of the far progressives. She used to be the one we as republicans cited as the far left policy maker. Shes now the mainstream of the Democratic Party. Shes continuing to make sure to keep her left wing in check. This shouldnt be a political issue. This is something that democrats have voted for in the past. Martha youre absolutely right t shouldnt. When you listen to their reaction to the thes address it was all about all of the lies, all of the Fact Checking that was required to get through the president s address, the contention that border crossings have fallen, you know, these are tricky numbers. Because when you look at the number of unaccompanied alien children that number was up 211 last year. Family crossings up 42 . Everybody picks the numbers they like better i guess. Here is what is ridiculous when we have a discussion about that. It only takes one to be a problem. Why do we sit back . We have security in the airports not because theres a ton of people doing ill will. You put locks on your door not because youve been broken into a hundred times, because you want to stop that one time. One person coming in killing another person illegally is too many. We should be doing everything we can. This is not just about a wall. The president is committed to overall Border Security this. Shouldnt be a discussion. The idea were not looking at the officers family you just had last week saying normally we all gather together and say what can we do to make sure this never happens again. It should be protecting our people, whether coming over illegally, protecting them from the flow of drugs, women and children being trafficked, one is too many. The bottom line is this. If a prosecutor read that journal entry and didnt want to bring him in for some serious questioning and perhaps try to figure out how does a person turn a young 20 something year old into a drug addict and not have some responsibility, when the person dies of an overdose . I dont blame any of the democrat politicians for what ed buck did. I think the tendency that maybe a guy on my side of the aisle might have is to say look at these democrats they took money from a sleez bag martha there are a lot of sleez bags, right . Theres been a lot of concern obviously about Justice Ginsburg who has now missed three days i believe of the arguments so far. And it just raises the question about, you know, procedure. Its interesting to note that the chief Justice William rehnquist, he missed a significant amount of time 09 bench, he missed five months while he was undergoing treatment. So there is a president for this, for not physically being present as part of this process well absolutely. People get sick. Its part of the way of life. Shes 85 years old. She had a fall, shes had surgery, she was diagnosed with cancer, shes had treatment for that. The fact that she takes time off i dont think anybody ought to get all excited about that. People, a third of her age would be taking off, given all the Health Issues she has. I think the one thing that i would point out is that this is not a time if people to start speculating, should she retire . Does she have to retire . She shouldnt retire until she decides she wants to retire. Im going to be the first, i dont agree with hardly anything she ever opines but i respect she was legally appointed and then confirmed almost unanimously by the senate back in the 90s, whether it there was a sense of respecting president s nominees. It was really troubling to read some of the things that could have been done to prevent one of the most awful tragedies weve had. During the massacre Broward County sheriffs deputies took cover behind cars and trees even though one deputy radioed that he knew where the shooter was. Coral spinnings officers saw them taking shelter while they ran in the school. There is dispatch video and audio showing Scott Peterson taking shelter despite seeing the shooter in the stairwell. Sheriff israel litter said the actions sick enned him. During an interview with cnn the sheriff refused to take any responsibility. Jake i can only take responsibility for what i knew about. I exercised my due diligence. Ive given amazing leadership to this agent. Amazing leadership . Yes, jake. Theres a lot of things weve done throughout. Two months after israel gave that interview 85 of the rank and file of the Broward County Sheriffs Office voted no confidence in the sheriff, though israel calls the vote a union ploy to get a pay raise. Do you think its true that he will be suspended . Is there still hope for him . I dont think theres any hope left for sheriff israel. All roads are now the pointing towards the sheriffs remove. Its just a matter of whether or not the governor can find a duty able replacement at the earliest time and go ahead and remove sheriff israel. He is incompetent to lead an agency of this size. He is incapable of understanding the severity of the mistakes hes been making within the Sheriffs Office to lead an agency this size. His number one picks and surrounding command staff have torn down this agency to a level we have never seen before. And he is on the verge of being the second sheriff removed from office in the last 12 years at the Broward Sheriffs Office a fete that should never be seen within a Police Department and hes going to be the second one soon. Martha ive gone through the point that you detail about how you believe he was supporting sheriff israel throughout his time there and he changed the, in 2013, he changed the active shooter policy and replaced the language will respond to may respond. You know in all of this it would be sort of ugly if it werent for the fact that 17 people were killed under his watch. Absolutely. This is just a pattern of what sheriff israel hassle done throughout his administration. He started with the intentional rewording to make it more appeasing to the public. Then he started going into our Police Department and instead of having what we used to train under the warrior mindset meaning not to be the victim first, take the fight to the bad guys first when just identified, he started implementing policies saying we have ton polite and fair to everybody and ask them dozens of times to please put your hands behind your back and risk the officers safety. This man and policies and the individuals he has personally hand picked to be the upper level of the command staff of the Sheriffs Office has done more damage to this agency than i can ever recall in the 24 years ive been here. This is a picture of fans that he ordered in support of himself, essentially, which just arrived. I guess he ordered them some time ago, i guess they were never handed out. Would you call this self promotion . Absolutely. This is what the sheriff considers amazing leadership. These fans were ordered in december of last year. They just arrived in the chief of staffs office. She handed them out in the community. Thats absolutely disgufrting that on the same month that the sheriff is expecting the report and the release of the commission that he authorizes and approves the expenditure of taxpayer money to buy fans like this to give out to Community Members throughout the church was, what the community should doin stead of cooling themselv themselves off, they should fuel the flames to keep the heat against sheriff israel and make sure that Governor Desantis removes scott israel from office. Every day that this sheriff stays in office f. Its the communitys children that are at risk, the Community Safety at risk. Every day he sits in office were all at risk is it. Theres a broader point here too which is again we find out selves as a country debating immigration. Theres a right and wrong way to do. That the right way is to open the government and allow for democrats and republicans to come to the table and actually create a space where we can have a real debate and allow for compromise and find a way forward. The wrong way is where we are now at this impasse with the president holding federal employees and the families hostage. Martha she is definitely vocal. But you know, if you just listen to what nancy pelosi said, the idea that she says the wall is immor immoral . And that the entire thing is a manufactured crisis by the president . Those are pretty outlandish things, too. I dont know which is harder to defend against.
