And further, whats the condition of the two people who have been, according to authorities, injured. We have live pictures coming in from our number of affiliates there, plus our own adam housley is on scene waiting for authorities to update us. Weve seen people run all over this campus. The initial reporting from the first eyewitnesses to the campus newspaper was, the whole campus just started running and i started running, too, said one young woman over a cell phone to the newspaper. Quoting, everybody was confused. We got into a building and nobody knew what was going on. Since then the campus put out an alert on its website and twitter and other ways they communicate with students to shelter in place, that the campus is on lockdown, that no one should be moving. Apparently they are still searching for this shooter or possibly shooters. Authorities initially said that there was believed to be one shooter. But now on Law Enforcement radio channels where they send out advisories to other Law Enforcement, they have said that there may be two. Some witnesses have suggested that there may have been a male and female, but fox news cannot confirm that because we all know the early going reporting, especially from witnesses, sometimes contradicts other witnesses because its very, very difficult to get hands around things when it is moving at this pace. This is live these are live pictures as authorities move in now. You can see the men with the long guns whos been brought together from different areas. Our understanding is s. W. A. T. Has been out there. Clearly theyre making a move on facilities there. Is this contained to Engineering Building number four and parking lot number nine . We dont know. But adam . Reporter in fact the area you are talking about is right here. Thats the Fire Department in full armor as well. Ambulance crews prepared to respond if need be. They are in full armor to go in as full responders. Five members of the s. W. A. T. Team from lapd just went in. This is literally thats the Engineering Hall right across the street. Thats the hall we are talking about here on the ground. Theyve been going in from all different angles. They brought in a hook and ladder truck potentially either to block off the street or maybe a different level of that building if need be. There are outside balconies. This is main westwood drag, as we call it here for a slang term. Westwood boulevard that comes in to ucla. To the right and left you see basically officers in all directions. The suspects, the problem you are having when you talk to authorities, they just dont know. These situations are fluid. You get people that will tell you one thing and somebody else will see is the exact same scene and Say Something completely different. Thats what theyre dealing with right now, trying to sort it through to figure out what they are looking for. Meantime they are going through this hall room by room. They have to be incredibly careful because they dont know what theyre looking for. Maybe one, maybe two. Weve been told a white male wearing black. Weve been told a couple of other things. But you can see the First Responders have to armor up as well as they prepare to go in. They have the lapd helicopter just over the tops of the buildings circling in this area. Seems like they moved away from the parking garage. Right here. Just to the right looks like theyve gotten away from that. They dont seem to be focusing on that, they seem to be going back to the actual Engineering Building itself. Were literally right across the street here. Thats mutual aid response. You have Police Coming in from all over southern california. All hands on deck any time you have a situation like this. Not only are there 50,000, 60,000 students and faculty here, they had to bring down construction workers from the buildings next door. They were evacuated as well because they faced danger. We are talking about thousands of people just in this area. And if the shooter or shooters got away into other areas, now you are talking about a massive manhunt that would have to take place. So far for some reason they seem to continue to focus on this building. They have not expanded out. We got to believe that theres something leading them to stay here at this point. Certainly seems that way. For some context for people, these shootings happened close to an hour and 15 minutes ago. The initial reports were two people shot. Since then weve had no reports of anybody shot. And i point this out because these situations can be one of many things. Sometimes it is targeted where somebody has a beef with somebody else and they go in and take them down. Other times theres something broader in mind. Usually if theres something broader in mind on a densely populated place like ucla, one of the most densely populated in that area with tens of thousands of people on a campus there, if one were so inclined to go about and fire more shots, one could. To the best of our knowledge and all the best reporting that we have, that has not happened. So there are a number of possibilities now. This shooter or shooters could be hold up somewhere. The shooter or shooters could have been injured in some way or the shooter or shooters could have gotten away. We dont know the answer to any of those questions yet and are awaiting for the lapd. And in they come again. Weve been watching scenes is like this for quite some time. If it seems like Law Enforcement is building in this area, it certainly is. Weve been led to believe that theyre coming from surrounding areas, other municipalities. Certainly l. A. County, l. A. City police. On campus there, it is not as much ucla police as Security Services. Ucla Security Services notify the lapd just about an hour and five, ten minutes ago that this situation was under way. Lapd and all of those who give support came rolling in. It is unusual, i will tell you, that the Public Information service for the lapd has not been more forthcoming with information. History tells me that that means they just dont have is the information together well enough to bring us to us with any degree of certificaainty. Theyre very forthcoming. When they have it, they give it to you on most occasions. Some people are coming up with their hands overhead. Normally this means these people have been cleared. Weve seen this since Columbine High School. When there is a shooting in a school, thats how you come out. Thats right. Thats the scene weve seen play out at different areas of the campus. Now we understand that police are working under the same theory that we are which is the reason theyre not giving us any information is, quite frankly, theyre not sure exactly what theyre dealing with. We just had some video that came in. Well try to get it on the screen as fast as we can. One of our producers out there. But First Responders and police are still telling students that are near and around that area to get away, to get back, because if you dont, you might be shot. So the police are working under the frame that there is somebody somewhere in or around engineer something building number four that is still at some point, they believe, violent and still has the capacity to be able to do harm to somebody. Were getting other reports from the lapd that these may be fairly serious wounds that the people suffered inside the buildings. Again, we dont have enough to confirm exactly how serious. But the thing that is interesting to us is that you see the ambulances parked outside, and weve been in contact with ucla, Ronald Reagan medical center, which is really at the doorstep of ucla. We have gotten no reports of shooting victims arriving at this hospital, which makes you think what is the deal . Whats going on inside Engineering Building number four . We also do not have any reports of the shooter fleeing ucla. It is a vast campus. We are talking about an area thats in the very back part of the campus. If you know los angeles, it would be towards sunset boulevard, a lot further away from wilshire boulevard, and about equal distance from the 405 freeway. So right now you have atf and you have fbi on the scene. We asked the question, is there a nexus to terrorism, and the answer we got was we dont know. And clearly they dont know but there is an immense amount of First Responders, police on scene right now trying to figure out exactly whats going on. As we get more information about what they believe is happening inside or just outside the building, well get back to you. Trace, thanks. Reporter he just came out from engineer something name. Nick bellie. Did you hear anything . We got two emails from bruin alert system just letting us know about an active shooter. They told us to lock down and stay in our office. We were in there for about an hour. And then police came in and had us evacuate. So we are here now. The Engineering Hall is pretty large. Did you guys hear or see anything . Didnt hear anything, didnt see anything except police activity. Thats the Police Presence inside, i assume. Yeah. Yeah. Now the hall itself, is it like a normal hall you would see in a college, a lot of different labs and classrooms . Yeah. A lot of different labs, classrooms, offices. Theres five floors in engineering five. Im sure it is uneasy is an understatement to say that there are so many places someone could theoretically hide. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Very uneasy. Adam, excuse me. I want to get in here with a little breaking news. I apologize for interrupting. But police have just confirmed there are two fatalities, two people, we believe, shot and killed at ucla this morning. Again, that happened just before 10 00. Theyve just police have just issued a release to media. They did so on camera there and said, in essence, the following to those who are watching, just because you see a big show of force does not mean there is now something going on. Thats what im quoting police as saying. Police are saying, yes, you see an enormous show of force, yes, you see us entering this campus, yes, you see us going into Engineering Building number four. We are conducting an operation, but that is not to say that anything is ongoing. Now what are we to make of that . We arent sure but they do confirm two people have died. Police were asked directly, can you confirm the suspect or suspects, what he or she looks like, if there is more than one . And police said on all counts, no, we cant confirm any of thatha that, we wont release a description or even vague characteristics of a suspect. What can we draw from this . Well, theyre going through this building looking for someone, apparently, who shot and killed two people who died today at ucla. Just around 10 00 this morning local time. Beyond that, we dont know whether the person who inflicted these injuries and caused these deaths is still on campus or not. From everything that police are telling us, we can only surmise that they dont know either because theyre going through this building looking for someone we saw them go in with axes and crowbars. Weve seen long guns, s. W. A. T. Teams and the rest, all making their way in to this one building. Weve seen them stage there in the parking lot. Parking lot number nine. Weve not seen them come out with any victims. Now we know the reason, according to authorities, two people died there. If there are other victims, we have absolutely no knowledge of it and we cannot confirm anything about who the suspects are or where they are or where they may have gone because authorities at this point apparently do not know. So theyre acting in abundance of caution and going room to room, door to door, trying to find whoever might have had a gun and caused this. Aside from that, is it possible that they escaped . It certainly is. Escaping from an area like this in the middle of this is not a small town college town. This is an enormous and densely populated campus in the center of an enormous and densely populated city, in the center of an enormous metropolitan area. You can get on the 405 freeway there, you can get on sunset boulevard there. Once you get out of the dense traffic of ucla, you can be anywhere in a matter of minutes. And in any direction all over southern california. Trace gallagher, if the suspect got away here, they could be in for a long haul. They could be anywhere. Once you get on the 405, you are talking about san diego to the south of you, and god knows where to the north of you. Then you are talking about santa monica just to the west of ucla. To the east youve got cities like belaire and beverly hills. It goes on and on and on. So if the shooter or shooters did get off campus and we have no knowledge of that. In fact, when they say that just because you see a large show of force does not mean anythings going on, well, ill tell you, this is about as large a show of force as we have seen in a very long time. Now, granted, they have a lot of access to pull from. Youve got surrounding areas that can send vast quantities and amounts of First Responder personnel. Fire trucks, ambulances. Police cars, the like. We know atf is on scene. We know the fbi is also on scene. That is very much Standard Operating Procedure in these types of shootings because they have no idea if there is any connection at all to terrorism. We asked the question a short time ago. Answer was they do not know at this point in time. But there is still a city wide alert because the lapd just told us there is a city wide alert in place. We dont know if thats for the city sf westwood, population 47,000. If that means a city alert for ucla. Or if theyre talking about los angeles proper. So they didnt really clarify exactly where theyre confining this city wide alert to. But right now on the campus i believe this is tape. Youve seen a lot of this in the past hour, hour and a half. There is this humongous presence of First Responders, and they are still focused on Engineering Building number four, parking lot nine in the very back of the ucla campus. And we now know that two people are dead and we dont know exactly what happens. We dont know if they were trarthe targeted. We dont know if they knew each other. We dont know anything about those two victims and we also dont know if the shooter or shooters might be one of those victims because police simply dont have enough information, or if they have it, they havent shared it with us in the past five or six minutes since we got off the phone with them. On the righthand side of the screen, we were watching as students were exiting that be Engineering Hall. Ive given you the details from the witnesses as we have them. Lets hear what police have to say about this. Listen carefully here. As soon as im able to confirm that, ill be more than happy to do that. Im sorry . It came to us from ucla. Ucla has their own Police Department. It is a fine Police Department. They called us and asked for our resources to assist them. Thats why were here. At this point let me bring up the pio for the Fire Department who can talk a little bit about their resources. Peter sanders, Los Angeles City Fire Department. Responded around 10 00 a. M. When we received a call for reported shooting. Arrived with ucla pd, lapd and the fbi. We currently have 11 engine and Truck Companies on scene as well as seven rescue ambulances standing by. Other resources are staged and prepared to respond if necessary. We do have our tactical ems teams here, working in conjunction with lapd and fbi s. W. A. T. Teams. They are paramedics trained to work closely with the s. W. A. T. Teams to render medical aid. They are on scene and we have multiple command officers as well as other resources here on scene. Right now were standing by to assist lapd. We understand that there are victims shot. We dont have any other details at this point. Thank you. Thats the latest from police. That was from just a couple of minutes ago. The thing that the officer was responding to at the very beginning was, these reports that two people were dead on scene. Well, this is lapd speaking on scene, yet lapds main office had sent out officially that two people have died there. So communicating in these sorts of chaotic events is a very difficult thing, even for Law Enforcement professionals who are working so lard hard on sce. Now we are in a waitandsee mode. They have made it clear that theyre not sure whats up because they have put the entire Police Department and the city on tactical alert, brought in hundreds of different officers and sending them in to different predetermined locations as is standard for an event like this. But the truth is they dont seem to know where the shooter or shooters is or are. So theyre clearing this hall to the degree thats possible. Weve been seeing students come running out of there in groups. Sometimes with their hands over their heads. And authorities remind us its worth repeating here just because you see all of this activity does not mean something is about to go down in this place. And im pretty sure what they mean by this is we dont know if our shooters are still there, or if our shooters got away. Thats why the entire city of, we believe, los angeles were not sure if it is westwood but it appears to be, because of the way the lapd sent out the information, it appears the entire city is on tactical alert. City of los angeles. That means officers are brought in on their off times and they respond under different commands. Long and short of it, there is a lot of work ahead as they try to find the people responsible for this. Adam i dont know what this is. Adam . Like any College Campus you have protesters and guys that have their own little paintings. This guy happened to be over near where this is all taking place. You keep alluding to the situation of having such a dense area. As you look at the emt guys here that are all ready to go in their armor, pan up a little bit and show some of the areas that they have to keep an eye out for. For example a building over here is under construction. Youve got buildings down the street here. Its very, very compact. So if if a shooter or shooters is or has left the area, they have a lot of places they could go. You can see here ground level. I will say that the tense situation down here on the ground has eased a tad. There isrunning around. People seem to be getting in groups, organization and communication is being set up. I can tell you since what happened at San Bernardino, any time there is a shooting in a highly dense area or school area, anything of that nature they pretty much go into tactical alert immediately because they dont want to take any chances because of what happened at San Bernardino. Thats in response specifically to San Bernardino last december. We come over here to the right, going right past the engineering and Applied Science building. Youll see some of the Fire Department units there. Youll see the atf and some of the federal authorities who joined with lapd and ucla Police Services at another gathering point. They have a number of different tactical locations theyve set up. Obviously s. W. A. T. Is here from multiple agencies and theyve gone at this building in a number of different ways. Theyve gone into it at every single entrance and exit weve scene. Weve been told theres four of them. We havent seen them go into a second level which they could theoretically do with a fire truck. You can see how dense this is. Just when we show you the scene and teams out here preparing to go in. It is interesting to not there is not as much its controlled now much more. It was much more chaotic a halfhour ago as officers were arriving from literally every direction. Our understanding of things is when you first get in there and realize a couple of people have been shot, you do everything you can to secure the area as quickly as possible and certainly you want to talk to the victims that you degree that you can to find up. Sadly they cant talk to the victims in this case as both of the victims died. Some details of the way these extractions are, would irking. William la jeunesse. Strategy has changed a great deal since column pine. Before we saw the lapd Rapid Extraction teams, those guys with the axes with what looked to be some s. W. A. T. Gear on, Campus Police went in about 40 minutes ago with long guns so they did not wait which is, again, a change in strategy. Finally if terms of what we saw in terms of the student body, the strategy now is called run, hide, fight. We saw students very early on in this thing run, get out of the buildings. Others of course stayed in place, turned off lights, locked the doors. I think some of the faculty has been instructed to do that, but you know they teach you in these active shooter courses how to stay low, put things in front of you, use your belt or several belts to try to tie the door closed so an intruder cant get in. Get behind something to slow down the velocity of a bullet. Those kinds of things. As we saw the lapd extraction teams are going in right now and clearing that building. Working still to get a lanl on handle on if the police have a motive. Last report from the authorities in los angeles, and from ucla police, if they dont know of a motive in this shooting, they have nothing to release in the way of description of the shooters. A reason for that . Well, it could be that only the people who were the victims here were witnesses to this to these murders. It is entirely possible thats the case. Did anyone actually see the shooting happen . If so, that person has not taken to social media or spoken to anyone in the media, for we have no firsthand accounts from anyone in this crowded school of having witnessed whatever it is that happened today. We have every reason to believe that whatever it was happened in or around the Engineering Building. The cameras have been all around it. There is nothing to indicate that anything happened outside. These extraction teams have gone into the building, and then group by group, students have been escorted out, in some cases with their hands on their head. It is our understanding that that continues in this building as authorities go room to room to try to see if anyone who wants to cause harm is there. So far they have not found anyone. But the immediate concern in the surrounding area, though still on lockdown and still tensions are high, the chaotic running about we saw earlier has subsided and it would appear police are dotting their is and crossing their ts and hoping to find someone responsible for this. Apparently chances are pretty good that whoever it was could have made his or her, or both, way out of there. You see these guys coming in with their long guns again. Once again battering rams and the rest and big crowbars so they can gain access to areas that might be locked. I think we have pictures up of a twitter picture. Thats coming out of the control room. In the center of your screen, this is the situation we led to believe in rooms all over this building where students are sheltering in place as directed by the university wherever they are. And in those rooms they deny entry as the website for the University Puts it. Dont allow anybody in there unless and until you are sure it is Police Officers who are coming to get you out. Then theyll check all of them, make sure they arent armed, make sure theyre not being duped to believe that the shooter could be in the room. Then once all of them are cleared, theyll be sent out and off to a staging area. Anybody who has has witnessed anything would be interviewed by authorities. But along the way, we understand the nature of millenials today, and that is to share, share, share. Anything you have, anything you know, anything youve seen, any place youve been, you put it on your social media in one way or another. So were watching all of that with a team of professionals up here monitoring everything that is in any way connected to this and we have nothing to indicate anybody actually saw this. And in this day. And time, an hour and a half, 90 minutes after this happened, that is extremely rare. That cant lead us to the conclusion that no one was there when this happened, but it can make us wonder what the situation was regarding all of this and certainly now where in the world are these shooters or is this shooter. Trace gallagher in los angeles, it is interesting to me that still no description, still no indication of what a motive might have been, and certainly no idea of whether they know whether these people are. To go a step further, you have these descriptions coming out of a 60 tall male wearing a black jacket leaving the building. Again, you go back to the San Bernardino shooting we had here several months ago and we had several i would say a dozen different descriptions of a dozen different people that somebody thought might have been involved in this. In all of this, we heard there might be a man. There might be a man and a woman. We have not yet heard anything about an actual weapon. No e nobody has mentioned anything about seeing somebody somewhere with an actual weapon, and police have given us no indication of the type of weapon that was used. We know that two people are dead. We do not know the type of weapon. It is also interesting to note that while police are inside Engineering Building number four, we know they have made access. They may very well know whats going on inside. But you look the a the outside and whats happening and the Police Officers are still being handed out what appear to be maps of the campus, maybe blueprints of the building itself. So theyre still working on this theory that somebody is actively on this campus thats dangerous. And to go one further, shep, as you just showed a twitter picture, weve seen other twitter pictures of students in other rooms with belts that are belting these doors closed, as william was tking about earlier, because thats one of the things that students are taught. So if the word hasnt gotten to us, it also hasnt gotten to students at ucla, because for right now, they are being told stay where you are, lock the doors, do not let anybody inside. And in the surrounding area of ucla, its the same. Dont go near the campus. Do not at any stretch take on somebody who you believe might be armed and dangerous. Shep. Trace, thanks a lot. We are getting new pictures from campus itself. Closedcircuit television of course is everywhere now and weve been able to get some images from on campus. Ryan has those here this is the s. W. A. T. Team actually inside. S. W. A. T. Teams going through. It is not clear where exactly on campus this is. A student at ucla just posted it. Somebody asked where these were. Thee said theyve got these cameras going into the entrances for computer labs and server rooms and things like that. You can see cops going through the hall. Weve seen reports going door by door. I dont know if thats the main picture, this one right here. This would be a menacing sight as a young student. All of youre in the middle of finals. It is a stressful time for everybody, no doubt. Early morning, 10 00 in the morning. Suddenly there is an alert that there is a shooter on campus. That is inside the Engineering Building with be we just got that confirmed. This is trace mentioned people barricading the doors here. You can see he mentioned someone with a belt using my belt to lock the doors says carrie talking about shooting in boelter hall, find shelter, campus wide lockdown. This is affecting every individual student in a different way but right now is what could be a very lengthy period of not having a lot of information about who the shooter is and these are live pics. Remember, the initial description that went out was a white male who was 60 tall. If youre Walking Around anywhere in this building and you happen to be a white male and you happen to be close to 60 tall, thats whats going to happen to you. You have to drop to your knees, take off your backpack. The backpack is then searched, then they send you on your way. Im sure it is happening in three or four other places as well as this around the campus right now. Lapd just notified us that there are two male victims. So both of those who were shot and killed inside the Engineering Building number four were both male victims and they added saying and right now there are no more suspects. Again, you dont want to read too much into that. Theyre not saying this thing is over. What theyre saying is, right now they do not have any information about other suspects. But they are still going from hall to hall, building to building, trying to figure out if in fact somebody because, remember, it was a male and a female that people saw leaving the building. And then it was a male. So police are utmost caution going building to building making sure that they are getting a handle on this before they notify anybody of anything and draw any conclusions. Trace, breaking now. Weve just gotten word from police theyll have a News Conference yet again in a couple of minutes and well bring that to you live. Sounds like were about to get some clarity here. I showed you the twitter picture from boelter hall. This is boelter hall at engineering four is right next door. You can see the density of all this. Parking lot number 9 is i believe this one here. Someone . Boelter hall is experiencing the cops coming through and searching the hallways and looking for any possible suspect. Trace, i wonder from the language that theyre using if there is a possibility that this shooter or shooters has been incapacitated in some way. Just by the language that theyre using. Neutralized. You always wonder early on have the shooter or shooters been neutralized. Was this in some capacity a murder suicide. We just dont know enough information right now. But when the police start coming out issuing statements right now saying that right now they dont know of any other suspects, it is an indication that they dont really believe that theyre dealing with at least an active shooter scenario, but again to draw conclusions is going further than we can with the information we have. All right, trace. Weve just gotten word that this Police Newser is coming up shortly. We have a live camera there to get it to you when it happens. But there is nothing to indicate that this is over. Authorities would immediately if the situation were clear and everything were fine and they knew it, they would issue a standdown order. The tactical alert would be over. Lockdown that is still in place on campus would end. And police would on some level at least, some of them, return to normal activities. That is not the case. Whatever is happening here, police have not reached the conclusion that it is over. When they do, theyre very good about notifying because the last thing you want to do is add stress and chaos to an already stressful and chaotic situation. If they could come and tell us the danger has passed, this is over, they would do it. Because think of what think of the disruption. Aside from the unthinkably awful situation of two men we now know inside that Engineering Building, Engineering Building number four, thats where they found their remains, aside from that tragedy, all that these students who are in the middle of finals at a very difficult university, under difficult circumstances in the middle of finals, the added stress here is not something to which cops want to contribute. They want to shut this down the moment they can. We hoping at a News Conference in just a moment well get good news but we cant confirm that. Still getting new information from the wires and from the Los Angeles Times and others. One thing thats clear is two people have died. Whats unclear is whats the situation with the suspects. I wonder what youre hearing, adam housley is right there across from the Engineering Building. Is there any sense of clarity there yet, adam . Adam, you there . Looks like adams off doing a little reporting. Trace, im confident that when they have something theyll bring it to us. As a result, at the moment, they dont. We talked about all morning, shep, the fact that we havent seen any kind of indication of a gun or any description of a gun. We also didnt hear anything about gunshots. The number of gunshots. Now for the first time a students is saying that his father is a professor at ucla who was inside Engineering Building number 4 and his father heard three gunshots. And that was it. So the father heard three gunshots. Thats the first were hearing from anybody on scene about the number of gunshots inside the building. And again, we dont know the type of weapon and we dont know the conflict that elevated into this shooting. But now at least we are hearing a little bit of context about there were three shots and no more. And again, it is still very possible that somebody fired off three shots, killed two people, and fled the building in some capacity and thats what police are working on right now, at least as far as the information we have. Thats the working theory on campus that all the students are under, all the faculty are under and anybody who lives in or around the westwood and ucla area is working under and will be for at least until this News Conference starts in a few minutes where the Police Department tells us exactly what happened inside that building. Shep. Some new information just coming in, trace, from the los angeles Police Department. That is this at approximately 10 clock this morning Los Angeles Police responded to multiple calls of shots fired on the ucla campus. Both lapd and ucla police began search for suspects and victims. The lapd has confirmed that two males were located suffering gunshot wounds. The lapd is continuing a methodical search of the campus and surrounding areas, however no additional suspects have been seen. Additional. Also on scene is the los angeles Fire Department. The lapd is actively engaged in securing the safety of students and surrounding community. Los angeles Police Department reminds you that in dynamic situations preliminary information is often inaccurate. Please rely on information provided by the lapd and ucla officials. Now of most importance and most clarifying here for us, or most telling, quoting, the lapd has confirmed two males were located suffering gunshot wounds. He did not say victims. The statement says lapd has confirmed two males were located suffering gunshot wounds. The lapd is continuing a methodical search of the campus and surrounding areas. However, no additional suspects have been seen. That word additional is not accidental. That word means something and the newser is starting now. Police department. As you already have learned, we have had an oncampus shooting this morning. The unfortunate fact is that there are two victims who are deceased from that shooting. We have still on campus an active investigation. We have an active search to ensure that there are no further victims, that no one else is in harms way and we are still searching to see if there is a suspect that may be in the area. Those are questions we dont have answered yet. I can tell you what we did immediately upon having learned about this incident, we immediately put out a bruin alert. Thats our campus alert notification system to advise all of those on our Campus Community of an incident occurred that could be dangerous to them and we requested them to stay out of the area. Right now currently the campus is on lockdown. We have literally hundreds of Police Officers and agents here on campus assisting in this active situation. Ucpd is working in concert with the fbi, with los angeles Police Department, with atf, and with l. A. City Fire Department, as well as Santa Monica College police. We have a lot of resources here that were dedicating to ensure the safety of this entire Campus Community. That will tell you that with the response that we have had not only from our own officers who have responded within just brief moments of receiving that first call, it is something that we have trained to do. So when our officers arrived on scene, they immediately began putting teams together that are considered rescue teams to help those who have been injured, and also search teams to look for suspects who may be in the area. That was implemented immediately and weve not stopped yet. We will continue to go until we are sure that this campus is safe, and if there is an outstanding suspect, we will have that person or persons in custody. It is certainly possible that one of the victims is the shooter but we dont know that yet. [ inaudible question ] there is a possibility but we cant confirm. Can you tell us where in the building the shootings occurred . The location exactly in the building i cant divulge right to you. It is in the Engineering Building, as you know. It is inside where there are numerous people. In fact, quite honestly, we still have dozens of people in the sheltered in place. Other than the building, the area outside is called the court of sciences. We have asked everybody from that location to please leave the area just to ensure their safety. There was only one location . One location so far. Victims were inside the building . The victims were located inside the building. How many gunmen are you looking for at this point . Unknown. Male or female victims . I dont have that information right now. How did you first receive the call . Through our 911 dispatch center in the police station. We received the call. That came from inside im not sure where the origin of that call was. Thank you. We will update you with more information as were able to develop. To you know if the victims were students . I dont know. No other injuries, right . Nobody else injured . Theyre saying there are other injuries. Are there any other injuries . Any other injuries . Ill have more information for you later. Thats the live update from lapd. Two people are dead. Something they confirmed earlier. But heres what this appears to be shaping into. It appears now that this may have been a murder suicide. There is no additional suspect. Theyve now said more than once theyre searching, due diligence, going room to room to make sure there are no more victims but at this point they dont seem to believe there are any more victims. You can see authorities are still located outside this building and they are actively working the area. I can tell you that multiple schools are on lockdown in the area. Lots of schools on lockdown. Heres the thing knbc, nbc fo los angeles, the local nbc owned and operated station, is reporting the following. Suicide note and handgun found Campus Police, according to ucla source. Thats according to knbc, the nbc station in los angeles. Our own people are working on this. Were pretty sure that this is a true thing at this moment. An update from lapd, there is official from lapd headquarters, still an ongoing active shooter investigation. No suspect in custody. Unknown if fatalities are students or employees or victims. We do know that there were two men found in the Engineering Building. Two males were in there. And both of those are deceased. Again, knbc and others now reporting that the authorities have found a suicide note and a handgun. We have nothing that indicates to us that there is great danger beyond what has already happened. Certainly a tragedy that two people have been killed there. But beyond that, authorities have acted and reacted in a way that they have learned to do beginning with Columbine High School and certainly there in california region from the San Bernardino shootings, theyve changed their tactics, theyve moved in, theyve gone door to door, theyve evacuated students. Theyve searched for more. And now close to two hours into this, it would appear that the situation is contained and that others are not in danger. But that said, the lockdown is on. It is that way at many schools. Theyre going everywhere they need to go to make sure that there are, a, no more victims, and, b, no more suspects. Rod, i think it is very interesting for people who have been following this over the last couple of hours here on fox the immense Police Presence if it turns out that it was some sort of a murder suicide and that there is really no active shooter. I guess this is the time that we live in this 2016 . Yes, it is, gretchen. Good afternoon to you. If you notice the Police Response was very marked, very much marked by several Police Departments responding to the building there. And why is that . Why is it that so many departments responded . Because thats the way we respond to these situations these days. Lets keep in mind that the police did not know how many suspects was on the scene when they first got there. As a matter of fact from what the police chief just said, theyre still searching a couple of the buildings in the area even though they have two individuals that are expired. So it is still a relatively fluid situation, and i think the Police Response was appropriate. You know, we see that now all across the country any time there is the possibility of an active shooter, the better way to respond is to send everybody, and then if you need to let people go, let them go. But initially always send everybody that you got available. Another station in los angeles is reporting now that they did find a handgun and a suicide note next to two dead male bodies. I guess that you would still have to be under the assumption that maybe there was somebody else . Well, you know what . Again, as Law Enforcement, we may have found that note and the officers may have found that note out there but that doesnt necessarily in and of itself mean that these were the only individuals involved with this. This could easily have meant maybe they were involved, it could have been someone else out there. Again, gretchen, viewers need to know that we in Law Enforcement dont know exactly everything we have when we arrive on the scene. What we have to do is go ahead and utilize the protocol for searching buildings and things like that. One other thing thats very important to note here is that you notice the fbi responded . Did you notice that the state Police Responded and the atf . Automatically now with these active shooter situations, all of these agencies go. That doesnt necessarily mean that this is a terrorism related event. It is just that we do it out of an abundance of caution. Rod wheeler, stand by. Adam housley has brandnew details. Reporter weve been talking about the students that are still inside. I have been texting with six that are inside a room. I wont tell you which one but this building, Engineering Hall and the one right next door, students are still inside classrooms. Six i have been texting with are actually under desks. Theyve been under desks for 1 45 minutes since the first call went out. They are obviously very concerned about the situation. They have not yet seen people in their room but they do see people out in the hallways so they feel secure but at the same time uneasy. Also i have been told by Law Enforcement that a handgun was found. They will not confirm to us yet here that a suicide note was found but a handgun was found. It goes along with part of the reports weve heard from other Media Outlets here on the ground. When we heard that, you could see the situation around here, obviously still tense, but you could see it in many senses i wouldnt say dial back but become a tad more relaxed. You see the ems guys a little bit more relaxed. Still in armor for obvious reasons. The helicopter is down low as well. We do know that the fbi and federal agents are on scene. This is still a lead from local authorities. I believe rod was talking about the response. I know rod and i were on back in december when we had the attack in San Bernardino. I can tell you from talking with Law Enforcement then and since here in southern california, they take nothing lightly. Not that they did before but because of the shooting there, theyve been doing a lot of work on getting people to the location and having a plan in place. Maps were passed out. Weve seen them here. Weve seen ems have them. Firefighters have them. Weve seen Police Officers and s. W. A. T. Teams all have maps not only of the Engineering Building but also of the surrounding campus because this is a very dense area. You see people coming out, too, periodically. Weve seen this in other shootings around the country where they come out with either hands on their head or hustling out from surrounding buildings or the building inside. We did see a lot of construction workers who were brought out first. They were some of the first ones to get out of the area. Even now if you watch here, youll see some guys coming around the fence to the right. Theyre walking with back to the building the guns arent drawn like they were before. Not to say that this is over, but to say that it is a tad less tense on the ground, a little more they seem like they have a little bit more of an idea of what happened here. As i confirmed earlier, we know students are still inside this building and the one next door, and also that a handgun was found. Adam, thank you live from the scene. It looks like Police Officers and ems responders there slightly more relaxed right now. It was interesting because the police had put out a press release maybe 30 minutes ago, just because you see a large showing of force and s. W. A. T. Teams doesnt mean there is necessarily an active major situation going on. As we deal back in rod wheeler, i guess that would be important because why would police put out that statement just because you see a bunch of s. W. A. T. Team members running around, that doesnt necessarily mean it is an active, huge case going on . Thats right. Like i said earlier, gretchen, we spend en masse nowadays to these active shooter complaints and calls and we have to do that because we learned a lot, believe it or not, not just from columbine by the active shooter that we had at the naval base. We learn so much about these large campus areas, so we have to respond a certain way. What we do is we basically rule things out as we go through the building. One other thing thats very important for the viewers to understand. What that is is what you dont see on the screen that the police is doing right now. What is that . They have teams of individuals right now investigators identifying the two victims, trying to see if there was a relationship amongst these two victims, and then doing a social media search to see if there were any warning signs that maybe somebody could have known about this. Then they are looking for vehicles that may have belonged to the victims and possibly the shooter. So there is a lot thats going on right now that you dont see on the screen but the police are very much involved.
