Mark, chief of Infectious Disease at Nebraska Medical Center, one of the physicians treating him. Great to have you on the show. My pleasure. Thanks for having me. Lets start out with the condition of your ebola patient. What can you tell us . Well, as you know, im not really at liberty to share too much of his personal information, but sufficed to say, he is seriously ill, but he is stable. So tell us a little bit about the blood transfusion with dr. Kent brantley. How did that work, and what do you hope will be the end result . We were terrifically lucky that the blood types began for dr. Brantley in our current patient just like our previous patient here with ebola matched, and so dr. Brantley very generously agreed to donate his blood. From that weve prepared it, developed the serum and delivered that to our current patients. In a masht that has survived ebola, they have very high levels of antibodies present, and we hope this buys our current patient a little bit of time until his own immune system could kind of kick in and start to develop his own antibodies. All right. Lets talk about the other experimental drugs. Weve heard of zmap and others. Weve also heard that they are in short supply. What else are you using on this patient . So the other experimental drugs are in short supply, and were currently using another experimental drug. This is an antiviral medication that helps to decrease the rep indication of the virus, and we hope have an affect on ebola. Now, its not been tested in humans with ebola virus, although weve used it here at the Nebraska Medical Center in many other tough viral infects. We really have hopes for this, and, again, were hoping that we can buy some time for this patient until his own emunion system can take over, form antibody, and he can clear this infection. Once again, were talking to dr. Ruff, treating right now the cameraman that has ebola at the Nebraska Medical Center. I want to show our viewers some amazing photographs from inside the biocontainment unit that you have at the medical center. Our hunch has proven correct. This is a specially designed unit. Its very secure. Its very safe. All the unit is coming into the patient rooms so theres no recirculated air, no possibility that if it was an airborne virus, that it would be able to escape. Now, were lucky with ebola thats really not the way its transmitted, but were taking every precaution, even some we think may not be necessary. Now, in addition, this unit has an auto clave, so all of the medical waste gets taken out of the unit. It has a dunk tank so, if we have a vial of blood or Something Else that needs to come out of the unit, we actually pass that through a disinfecting tank before we take it out of the unit. We really have done a good job, i think, in trying to think of eventualities and the contingencies and how to take care of this patient safely for our health care workers. Wow. Its so fascinating. I just want to let our viewers know that all of those pictures we were just showing are not of your current patient, but of the center itself when you were doing trial runs. Talk about the foresight to have put this lab together or this center together, and now are you use it to try to save the life of him. So fascinating to have you on the real story today. Thank you so much, doctor. Youre welcome. Pleasure to be with you. The man who discovered the virus warning all of us we need to do to do more to stay safe in the long run. We should also have the longterm in mind because there will be others. When there is an outbreak, we dont have so start from scratch and that we have much better science that we have drugs that we have vaccines that, we understand to be heat resistant. Time to talk about your health now with dr. Manny alvarez, senior managing editor of fox news health. Com. We just heard from the gentleman who discovered ebola decades ago. If the epidemic goes down, and you contain it, then you got to build the infrastructures for longterm use. Ebola is not a virus thats going to hour or two. He apparently does not have a fever. What does that tell you . There are patients that may have diarrhea. You know, you might have a multitude of symptoms. Temperature by itself is not a single indication. 1,700 nurses surveyed nationwide, 76 say no one has communicated a policy regarding potential admission of ebola infected patients. What do you say to that . I agree with that. Statistics. I think thats true. You know, when i hear the cdc say that were ready for ebola, you know, it gives the impression that all hospitals are created equal. All hospitals are not created equal. We have first layer hospitals. Secondary layers of hospital. Third layer of hospitals. When you look at the university of nebraska that you just showed the interview on, these are level three hospitals where they have infrastructure, they have scientists that know exactly what theyre doing. When you walk into a small hospital in the middle of the country, they dont have any equipment. They dont have any protocols to deal with anybody with ebola. Thats a false reason. Now, i do agree that hospitals have to do a better job at all level from one to three in educating about the science and symptoms of the viral diseases. Its scary, but its important to offer perspective. Since the first case was diagnosed in the u. S. A few weeks ago, only one patient, of course, has died or been diagnosed officially. In that same period of time, more than 13,000 people have died of heart disease. Nearly 3,500 from lung cancer. More than 700 from guns. 602 people died from a bad fall. Well, moving on to the other huge story today. The war with isis. Right now a u. S. Led coalition ramping up air strikes against isis targets amid a battle for control of that crucial town that weve been tell you about in syria, kobani, right on the turkish border. Kurdish forces fighting isis street by street as we see in this amateur video fox cannot independently verify, but we do know this. Isis capturing more territory in the syrian town of kobani and turkey. Again, refusing to launch Ground Troops against these terrorists if they have to do it alone. Lets bring in pete, concerned vets for america and a fox news contributor. Lets start with turkey, pete, because turkey now putting out that statement. Even though they have their tanks on the border, theyre not doing anything. Theyre just there for show, and now theyre saying that theyre not going to do anything about grournd troops if they dont have help. Well, thats right. Lets remember, turkey is a nato member and an ally of ours that we have asked in the past to contribute to efforts like this. They dont so e see it in their strategic interest. Theres a longstanding conflict with the kurdish population. Theyre also seeing the biggest enemy in syria. Not isis. They have two priorities. Their relationship with the kurds and toppling bashir al as yad before confronting isis, and because they dont see america contribute and they dont see a no fly zone, right now theyre not even seriously or remotely talking about bringing any tanks or weapon onere to bare which is the only game changer we have right now. I know that you have spoken to some sources who are close to loofr the guys and gals who may be over in this part of the world for us right now. What is the military morale . Theres a lot of frustration, gretchen, across the board. Uncertainty about the mission. Theres a universal feeling that the handcuffs couldnt be on the hands any stronger right now as far as what are men and women, what our special operators are willing to do. We have specialized units. The type that are hunting and killing al qaeda and iraq in 2007 and 2008. Theyre just sitting on bases or training inside base tiz brigade level. Nowhere near the forwardleaning action that would be necessary if we were to take the fight. Now, thats the those are the perimeters the president and pentagon has put on them right now. When they hear the word destroy and then they see an inability to actually do something about it, you can understand why theyre frustrated. All right. You would know after speaking with them. Pete, thank you so much for your thoughts today, sir. You got it. Well, listen up, boys and girls. Oh, woopsy daisy. Im supposed to say purple penguins. Thats when one school wants them to calm their students. Why . The reasons will shock you. Another coverup uncovered. Leaving the white house to another secret Service Scandal involving hookers and a lot of booze abroad. Did the white house try to delay the findings so it wouldnt embarrass the administration ahead of the election coming up in just a few weeks . Well be right back. Obviously were going to look at this. They say its an old story . Then give us the information and let the American People see. A party . Hi. Im new ensure active clear protein drink. Clear huh . Apply online or at a bank of america near you. Welcome back to the real story. Explosive new allegations of a coverup at the white house concerning the nearly dozen secret Service Agents who were fired or disciplined in 2012 for bringing hookers into a hotel room in columbia. Well, that was all ahead of a summit attended by president obama there. Chief White House Correspondent ed henry live at the white house for us. All right. A spicy topic for you today, ed. Very spicy, gretchen. The white house is downplaying by saying, look, we already knew there were allegations that a white house volunteer might have been tied to this scandal. They were looked at and dismissed back in 2012, but what is new is the Washington Post is saying there are Hotel Records that show this white house volunteer had a prostitute as an overnight guest in his hotel. The white house was given those records and did not thoroughly investigate it. Whats also interesting, april 2012 i pressed jay carney on how tough that white house investigation was. Did the white House Counsel check the Hotel Records down in columbia to see if any white house staff i dont want to get into the specifics. I would semimply say that the review that the white house oversaw produced no indication of any misconduct. The similar Hotel Records were used to implicate secret service officials. Now, Kathryn Ruemmler conducted the white house investigation. Shes on the short list to attorney general to potentially replace eric holder. Meanwhile, the white house volunteer involved, jonathan, his attorney gave fox a statement a few moments ago saying the bases it with the name of a prostitute and a room number, nor his jonathan dachs name nor his signature appears on a hotel log or any piece of paper with a foreign national. He works at the state Department Working on global womens issues. Gretchen. You cant make that up, actually. All right. Ed henry, thank you so much. Well, for some real talk now on all of this, lets get the real story with dan, former secret Service Agent for president obama and author of life inside the bubble. He is now an International Security consultant. Lets start with that, dan. What do you make of this new revelation that the white house may have been involved in this in some shape or form and maybe tried to cover it up . Gretchen, i wrote a year and a half ago that everybody on the ground knew there was a white house staff member involved in this. This is a protect the crown they worry about the bub government platform, and, yet, so readily throws the rankandfile members of the government, including the people who would protect him with their lives, under the bus. He did it with the irs. He did it with benghazi throwing the Intelligence Community under the bus. He did it with the secret service before. This is really a disturbing pattern of behavior, and some elected democrats need to wake up and need to call him on it. Well, speaking of elected officials, senator Lindsey Graham has just fired off a letter to the department of Homeland Security secretary, secretary johnson, saying that he wants all of the records from the secret service turned over. You think thats going to happen . No, i dont think any of this is going to happen. Like i said, they will protect the crown no matter what. Gretchen, you know, the secret Service Agents, you can argue about the punishment too hard. I had friends and family involved in this. Its a sensitive topic for me. These guys lives are over. Its done. Its finished. They were humiliated in public. Their wives have left them. Theyve lost their home. Yet, the white house staffer in this gets promoted for, what, womens studies or womens issues while theres supposedly a war on women. Theres supposedly a republican war on women . Heres a question at the white house someone needs to ask them. Was this kid polygraphed. Of secret Service Agents was. If he wasnt, why wasnt the same courtesy given to the agents . This is unbelievable. We know he has lawyered up because we saw that statement from his lawyer in ed henrys report. Before i let you go, there are now more calls from congress that the secret service should be taken away from the department of Homeland Security. It used to be you should the Treasury Department before 9 11. You would say what to that . This world war ii plane taking a 2 million nosedive. What happened to the pilot . We will tell you. And a school in nebraska trying to find a new name for kids in classrooms because a simple boys and girls just doesnt seem to cut it anymore. Why some say purple penguins is the logical choice. Of course, it is. To keep the p. C. Police at bay. Taking a step back in time with the historic find in boston and new york after they found a hidden time capsule. Will they be blossoming with Hidden Treasures a total bust like al capones face . That brings to us our question of the day. If you had to do it right now, what would you put inside a time capsule . Tweet me gretchen carlson. Use the the real story, and well try to read your comments coming up at the end of the show. Insurance companies are spending millions of dollars trying to mislead you about the effects of proposition 46. Well heres the truth 46 will save lives. It will save money too. Im bob pack, and im fighting for prop 46 because i lost my two children to preventable medical errors and i dont want anyone else to lose theirs. The three provisions in 46 will reduce medical errors and protect patients. Save money and save lives. Yes on 46. Welcome back to the real story. An expensive piece of history wrecked completely on the runway. This restored german fighter nosing over on the runway. Is that the terminology . Nosing over . I guess a nosedive, right . In baton rouge, louisiana, a pilot is forced to abort takeoff. Nobody else on board. The reason i can chuckle is because nobody was injured. The world war ii era plane worth an estimated, though, 2 million. Hope they can fix it. Public School Systems banning the term boys and girls, but purple penguins, theyre aokay. Teach nerz lincoln, nebraska, now being trained to avoid terms dealing with gender. This is in their manual. Dont use phrases such as boys you girls, you guys, ladies and gentlemen. Similarly, gender expressions to get kids attention. Instead say things like calling all readers or hey, campers, or could all of these athletes come come here. Oh, thats good. Thats not discrimination. Create classroom names and then ask all the purple penguins to meet at the rug. Tony is a fox news contributor. Alan colmes, host of the alan colmes show. Dont call me a man. Okay. Im going to call pete wra. I love penguins. Purple come on. You got come on. Are you really going defend this . I think its kind of silly really. I mean, in middle school, you got to wonder in terms of how many people in middle school really are uncertain, and maybe if some people are uncertain about their gender, and thats fine, and we have to respect that, but i dont know what percentage of the population that would really apply to. How do you come up with such an outrageous term as purple penguins . By the way, calling to the front of the room athletes, that would be discrimination to me. Why would you decipher against different groups of the population if you cant call boys boys and girls girls. Whoever came up with this idea what youll have is everybody calling themselves purple penguins just for the fun of it, and obviously miss the point of what they are trying to do. Theres other remedies for any child at any stage of their education who has perhaps sexuality issues, gender issues, other things that confuse them. You do not absolutely create a solution to something that is not a problem and to do it it shows you how honestly sometimes weve got to normal conditions. I want to get the politics in here because this is what the superintendent is saying. We dont get involved with politics. We dont get involved with gender preferences. Were educating all kids, and we cant be judgmental, but, alan, there are parents out there and theres going to be a big School Board Meeting october 14th. They say that were using taxpayer dollars to promote educational agendas, political agendas like this. I wonder if theyre going to have boys rooms and girls rooms in the school. Is it going to be like a third entity . Are you talking about bathrooms . Well, you want to talk about politics. Frankly, the people came up with these standards is the gender center for gender sanity, which is a leftleaning group. Theyre applying a political standard to these, and even in new york state, you see, we have a Political Party in new york, transgender bathrooms. Transgender bathrooms. Ra. We should at least agree thatcy is that all just the ones who support i dont think this represents a big swath of the left of center. Thank goodness. Political Group Population really. All right. Wow. You are saying im going to say thank you, gentlemen. Thank you. Gentlemen. Thank you. Time for my take now. Dont kids have enough to worry about right now . Now were going to confuse them even more right before puberty, by the way, to not call each other with the majority of the population really is and that would be boys and girls. Once again, this is pandering to the outrageous overcorrection of a society addicted to making sure we take care of the. 0001 of the masses. I am not against transgender people or transgender kids in any way. To make an entire population start calling each other purple penguins because maybe one child in the entire School System will turn out to be transgender is crazy. Arent we overthinking life when we start advocating a genderbred person instead of just a person. I understand the debilitating effects of bullying, and its happened to my kid. Shes a heterosexual girl. Why dont we focus on bullying in general to help our kids . Isnt that more inclusive . Guess what, they would be made right here in the u. S. Of a. Speaking of the u. S. , a tight u. S. Senate race happening in kansas. Republican senator pat roberts in the fight of his political life just five points ahead of his opponent greg ormon in the latest fox news poll. Chief Congressional CorrespondentMike Emmanuel live in wichita. All right, mike. Roberts has brought in some republicans to make his case for reelection. What are they doing to try to help . Theyre the latest in a series of vips to try to help roberts bring republicans together in red state, kansas. I asked roberts why he sdeshs another term. Im the only conservative in this race. I am the only republican where we have achieve this is the first step of getting back to a government that will work, that will lower your tacks, that will get government off your back. So after a brucing primary here in the great state of kansas, roberts has a lot of his republican friends coming to town to try and make the case to republicans here to get back together to reunite and to try to vote for him in the hopes of taking back the gop senate. Gretchen. All right. So what about his opponent who is running as an independent . Well, its a wealthy businessman. His name is greg orman, and he has gotten a little camerashy. His campaign is not responding to our request for interviews or even told us where he is planning to campaign. Its not just us. He is doing that with all Media Outlets at this point. However, orman did show up for a televised debate yesterday. Pat roberts will repeatedly tell you that president obama and harry reid are the reason washington is such a mess, and, you know what, he is half right. But the other half of the mess, mitch mn mcconnell and pat roberts. Theyre more interested in playing political games than problem solving, and both parties are failing kansas. Orman is making the case that pat roberts has been in washington too long, but he has been vague on a lot of big issues trying to maintain that independent label. There are other contests in battleground states. With less than a month to go, brand new fox news polls show republicans have the edge. In arkansas republican challenger tom cotton leading by seven points now over the encome bent democrat mark pryor. The race is a bit tighter in alaska with the gop county dan sullivan up by four points over mark bagich. Republican challenger Cory Gardener may be pulling away now from democratic incumbent mark udall with a sixpoint lead. Time for some real talk with guy benson, Political Editor for town hall. Com and a fox news contributor. All right, guy. Great to see you. Lets break these down. Lets start with colorado. Colorado very interesting race. Maybe the closest race in the country, and i would argue that senator mark udall, the incumbent, the democrat, is in contention, at least, for running the most consistently negative campaign over the last number of months trying to paint his opponent Cory Gardener as a frightening extremist, setting aside the problematic substance of some of his attacks. I think part of the issue that he is running into is that Cory Gardener doesnt read as frightening or as an extremist. Gardener is coming right back and pointing out that senator udall representing a purple state has supported Barack Obamas policies 99 of the time, and the polls indicate that that is a potent line of attack. Tom cotton, the republican, has not pulled this race away just yet. The fox news poll does indicate he is up by seven points. Smiles all around, i would imagine, in the cotton household as it was reported today that congressman cotton and his wife are expecting their first child. Right. I would imagine theres some happiness down there in the cotton camp, but the race isnt over. Theres a big Famous Family maim in the sdat, and its not a blowout the way it was four years ago with democrat blanch lincoln, who was ousted by the voters in an increasingly red state. All right. Quickly, i want to get to alaska. How do you see it . Alaska, our poll has begich, the incumbent down four. Theres another poll with him down six with republican dan sullivan hitting that important 50 threshold. This is a problem for begich because he is not only fighting the national trends, but he is also with obama 97 of the time. He is very unpopular in alaska. After running what auto a lot of people call yearly flawless campaign for much of the summer, he stepped in it with a few ads that have blown back against him and boomeranged against him and havent played well in the state, casting himself in a poor light, and it seems like mark begich has not recovered from those missteps. Colorado, arkansas, alaska. Breaking it down here. Guys, thank you so much. Thanks, gretchen. Time to go to Harris Falkner now. Its going to be another busy hour for working on the story for the next hour, and well let you know what were learning about the plan to keep travellers from bringing ebola into the united states, and what about airport employees . Do you know this. The people who clean the bathrooms and the passenger cabins in planes, some of them are on strike today walking off the job saying their employers sht doing enough to protect them from possible exposure. And were following a number of big stories just ahead from the fox news desk. Gretchen, back to you. Thank you so much. This guy looking to save lives. How this robot is trying to keep you healthy during your next hospital visit, and why p inventors say it can kill ebola on the spot . Well show you how it happens. Youve heard of birds eye view, but camels eye view . Find out what google strapped to that camels tongue as he took a stroll out in the desert. Right back. A professional stunt man find agnew way across the bridge and beat the traffic. Never mind the lane. A gopro cam shows him going up on the sides of the bridge with absolutely no margin for error. Well, police near denver find an unusual intruder stuck inside a car with a broken windshield. Yep. Thats a black bear trying to drive. The officers managed to set the animal free and later tweeted the bear seemed okay, but the car, well, the car is a little banged up. And can you tell what this thing is mounted on this camel . It is a google street view camera. A unique arrangement capturing incredible pictures of the desert in united arab emirates. The tech giant then posting the footage online. Heres the coolest story of the day. A Robotics Company treeing to keep other sick patients and employees at hospitals safe from ebola. Hazmat teams are used to wearing rubber suits, right . Respirators and gloves. Even patients in quarantine have a chance of infecting others through human error. So the dallas hospital where the pirs ebola patients in america was diagnosed is using the help of a robot to change that by using. Here is morris miller, ceo of xenex. Now, this is the robot. What does it do . So, inside this robot is a lamp. The lamp is filled with xenon gas. When you pulse it with high power, it puts out uvc light, 20,000 times brighter than sunlight. That light basically fries the dna of the bacteria virus or spore, and it cant replicate. We are talking about ebola at the texas hospital. I just interviewed the doctor t Nebraska Medical Center. Weve heard of the cleanup crews using bleach, but it cant get in every krif is, right . Bleach has been used for the last 100 years. Same thing. Every uvc youve heard of to date with a mercury lamp, this is the new technology. Its about 20 times faster. Its actually improved its 20 times more effective at getting rid of all those passages than bleach. We know dr. Ross is a fantastic doctor, and theyre doing a great job. They take this into those rooms after a patient has left. They literally pulse the light for five minutes, and it wipes out the pathogens so the next patient doesnt get sick. Also protects the hospital workers so theyre not getting sick. All right. As its rotating right now, and you can hear it moving and see it moving, what is it doing . Is it emitting light . When we have it on, can you feel the front of the machine, theres censors. If it senses a heat signature or i any movement in the room. You run it when people arent in the room. When we let it go, and i can pulse this if you would like, but literally this one wont hurt you. This does not have the xenon lamp. Its a demo device. When they pulse it, its 20 times brighter than the suns light. You can see on a microscope how it explodes the dna. In the future thinking and hospital ceos and administrators, theyve adopted this in advance even of the Ebola Outbreak to stop the hospitalacquired infects, which are the real problem in the u. S. Hospitals. Yes. Of course, like staph or anything else. Yes. Final question, how do you clean the robot . Lets say that a little, you know, piece of ebola gets on the robot . Fortunately, because its pulsing xenon light, its so intense he have. Its like a spotlight. It cleans itself every single time it runs. You dont have to worry about that. If theres any kind of dirt, you could clean off the dirt with a reagan rag, and throw the rag away, and then you could clean it like the environment. Amazing technology, and, boy, do we need 0d y it now with thee of ebola in our country. Great to meet you. Thank you so much. Thank you. My pleasure. Mentioned in the article they read. But by the time the studio and the partners got into the lion head statue and take a look at what was inside, the shoebox size metal box, they opened and it saw the red book and the rest of the contents are being taken back to the bostonian archives. Pictures of city leaders and a map as well. So, the capsule completely forgotten about. Who remembered . Exactly. Fascinating story. It was put in 1901 by the city leaders that day, and the only reason it came to light in 20111 there is there was a descendent on one of the original artists. She sent a letter to the Historical Society and they took another look when the brought the lion down toz,8 i with the contents and the condition of the contentses, and now theyre looking ahead to the future and going to put another time capsule in, a titanium one.
