That he met online. More to follow on this breaking story. Meantime, another Troubling Development in the fight against isis. As we get word now that the terror group set to capture a key town along the turkey Syrian Border. That would give them complete and uninterrupted control over the vast stretch of land separating those two countries. Well, hello, everyone, i hope you had a great weekend. Im gretchen carlson. And now, we have the real story for you. This besieged town of kobani has been at the center of the intense fighting for weeks now between isis militants and Kurdish Forces trying to defend the area but now it seems the terror group may be closing in for good. Greg pell cot streaming live from the turkey syria border. What can you tell us, greg . Reporter gretchen, the black terror flags of isis are now flying over the eastern portion of the city of kobani. We cannot confirm how much if any of that city the terror group now controls. We can confirm there is a whole lot of fighting there. Take a look at what we saw today. We have been pushed back two and a half miles from the Turkish Military from the syrian town of kobani over there. You can see plume of explosion there from an impact and we can see and hear all the action going on there. You can hear it between the isis terrorist and brave kurdish defenders of the town as we watch all this action over there, we are also watching some tanks of the Turkish Military lining up over on that side, hill side, where turrets trained on the town, ready to move in if they decide to. Again, fending off the terrorists, we estimate about 2 to 3,000 kurdish fighters, also estimate their weapons are light, their ammunition is low. While they claim to still control the city, it is close to falling. As for u. S. Air strikes, cent com just confirmed another south of kobani two terror positions hit. We, however, have been watching for the last several days isis tanks and vehicles freely moving across the country side. As for those turkish tanks, they are certainly defensive. With we have seen stray shells coming across the border but as of now, they are not offensive, turkey seemed reluctant to get involved in this difficult fight and thats making a lot of people, including you 180,000 revenue zwlas have come over on this side of the border very angry. This, gretchen, as terror is right on their doorstep. Back to you. Very important breaking story, greg. Thank you. Now to the latest on the ebola outbreak. Fifth american infected with the virus, an nbc news photographer now at the Nebraska Medical Center where he will remain in isolation and of course, undergo treatment. Meantime, thomas eric duncan, the liberian man the first person to be diagnosed with that disease inside our country, fighting for his life now. His condition now critical and being treated with an experimental drug. Casey steagall live for us outside Texas Health Presbyterian hospital in dallas. Case circumstance the socalled patient zero has now taken a turn for the worse, right . Reporter that is right. We dont know if that is why the decision has been made to give him this experimental drug that information just came down right before your program went on the air. We know that he has been listed in serious condition at Texas Health Presbyterian hospital since he came here and as midded, understandably, his health is deteriorating for them to downgrade his condition to critical. With the very best medical treatments out there according to the world health organization, remember that the average mortality rate for the ebola virus is around 50 and it can spike as high as 90 . Interestingly, all hospitals around the country, like the one right here in dallas, have rooms and equipment to isolate certain patients, to keep disease from spreading, but only four in the United States have highly specialized containment units. The National Institutes for health in bethesda, maryland, Emory University hospital in atlanta, st. Patricks hospital in missoula, montana, and Nebraska Medical Center in omaha. And that is why that freelance journalist was flown there and arrived there for treatment today. Remember, there was initially talk of them moving Thomas Duncan from this dallas location in the very early stages, but his health was too fragile to even transport him, gretchen. Thats so interesting to find out the hospitals that actually have this kind of a unit to handle an ebola patient. All right. So, in the meantime, whats the status of mr. Duncans family . Reporter they all remain under quarantine at this hour, they were moved to a different location, undisclosed location because, frankly, it was just risky trying to keep them indoors when they were living in a crowded apartment complex with other tenants around and the like. So they are now staying in a private home. We are told in a gated area, away from other houses and apartments. Four people total. Health Officials Say none of them are sick as of right now. Neither are any of the other nearly 50 people who had some form of contact with the Liberian National when he came to texas here a couple of weeks ago, gretchen. Casey steagall live for us in texas. Thank you. So, how are doctors and scientists treating this virus . Right now, there are only a handful of experimental drugs, but no successful vaccine as of yet. One of the most promising drugs used to treat three americans is now undergoing crin nal trials. Joining me is dr. Tom ber rely, a former fell floater in u. S. House of Representatives Committee on science, space and technology. Who knew you had all this expertise. Go figure. Amazing your background in all of. This lets talk about some of these drugs, breaking news right now that duncan is being given this new experimental drug, i cant pronounce it, but brincidofovir. Do you know about the drug . Bacteria, we have antibiotics, viruses are much different critters, harder to treat. This type of drug that they are treating mr. Drunk duncan, trying to interfere with the way the virus replicates inside a sell, trying to interfere with the way it makes copies of itself. A brand new kind of a technology, some of the other drugs are as well. Okay. So we have also heard about zmapp, that drug was, i think, being used at emeory university and those patients successfully, at least the two americans, were cured . Yes, but we dont know whether it was that drug itself. Im in love with the technology. What they are able to do is make antibodies by manipulating, genetically manipulating tobacco plants. You had tobacco plants actually making antibodies, they treated the missioner ins that came in from africa. They have given this, i think, this treatment to like seven patients. Two had died. The others are alive. We dont know whether it was that drug itself and the missionaries also received serum from people who had survived ebola. We dont know. Really exciting technology. Session sight. The fact of the matter is we dont have the drug, hasnt been fda approved. Right. Lets say there is some sort of outbreak, can we get the drug . You know, we dont know if drugs are going to work. You know, up fortunately, the best way is isolation. And thats why its too bad that mr. Duncan eluded our cdc effort to try to block people. Blocking and isolating is the best way. Vaccines, again, would be the next step but they are now only in clinical trials. Howl until we would see too long. We are talking years by the time you can really effectively, we want it to be safe and effective, we can just start treating people and, you know, cross our fingers but we are really not gonna know. Very interesting. And kind of scary. No, it is. But a lot of good scientists out there with neat technology. That is inspiring then. Tom, great to see you. Thanks. Theres mounting pressure for the feds to take additional steps to present an ebola epidemic from break out in the u. S. , the head of the cdc warning some steps, like a flight ban, could actually backfire. There are many other people who have the right to enter into this country and that were not going to be able to get to zero risk, no matter what we do unless and until we control the outbreak in west africa. Fox news digital politics editor, great to see you today, chris. I just want to mention it is coming out across the wires in the last couple of minutes that the Obama Administration not considering a ban on travelers from countries most affected by ebola. They made that clear today. What do you say to that . And they continue to have to make it clear because the pressure to do so continues to grow. And part of the reason the pressure continues to grow, gretchen is that the administration has not offered a plausible reason. There have been some strawman arguments, it couldnt be done it could be somewhat done. It would hurt the economies of these countries, it would anxiety, but not yet a credible argument put forward as to why it shouldnt be done for the sake of americans. And as long as that remains so the white house is going to have to do this on a daily basis and say that there isnt going to be any ban on travelers from the outbreak area and that tells you where were going and where were going is that the pressure is growing, growing, growing. Okay. So some people have argued there might be Political Correctness involved in this. Do you agree with that . I cant ascribe the motives to the administration, i dont know why they are doing what they are doing. Is it pc . Is there a real underlying thing . I tell you this, voters, the consumers of knew the American Public knows when youre not leveling with them and they understandably feel like they are not getting leveled with, that when you say why is it necessary to have these people come into the United States, the answer comes back, well, its complicated and the economy and the regimes and sense of isolation, but there isnt a clear answer, as long as thats the case, people will be very suspicious and remember this is an administration that is working sort of low point in its credibility level with the electorate. No document the president meeting today with the cdc in about an hour from now. We will see if anything new comes out of that. Chris, thank you. You bet. Time now for my take. So, should we trust the government to keep us all safe from ebola . With the governments recent track record not being so hot, well, we learned we couldnt trust the irs after the targeting of conservative groups much the secret service after an armed man made his way into the white house. The va after reports men and women who served this country died waiting to get health care. We couldnt trust the promise that obamacare that we could keep our doctors that we wanted and do we trust that we know all the answers yet about benghazi . More and more people seem to be asking about ebola now isnt that they are necessarily scared about actually getting the disease, but that they are scared the Government Agencies responsible with helping us if we do get sick night not be up to the tax, if owe bale la becomes a bigger issue, the question still remains, will we be safe . Coming up on the real story, new word that some of the 9 11 hijackers were actually seen testing Airport Security in the months leading up to the deadly terror attacks. Some witnesses even reported their strange behavior. So, why was nothing ever done about that . And we have been. Bombing the heck out of isis for weeks now, but are the air strikes really working and have the isis militants figured out a way to escape detection . We will bring you the real story on that. And one mans dream bursts like a bad bubble, except his bubble trouble was very real and required the coast guard to actually get him out of it. We will tell that you story right when we return. 21. Could something that small make an impact on something as big as your retirement . I dont think so. Well if you start putting that towards your retirement every week and let it grow over time, for twenty to thirty years, that retirement challenge might not seem so big after all. We will tell that you story right when we return. Here i am. Rock you like a hurricane. Fiber one now makes cookies. Find them in the cookie aisle. So ally bank really has no hidden fethats right. Accounts . Its just that im worried about you know hidden things. Ok, whys that . No hidden fees, from the bank where no branches equals great rates. Right when we return. Welcome back to the real story today. The u. S. Coast guard rescuing a man in a bubble. It happened over the weekend. The endurance athlete was attempting to go from miami to bermuda in this socalled hydro pod, but he got lost, forcing the coast guard to airlift him right out of his bubble. Well, now he says he wants it back. The daredevil designed it himself, saying that she is it a she or a he, guys . He or she. Okay. She want it is for life savings. She spent her life savings on it. According to the website, the goal of the project was to raise money for impoverished children. We will fee she gets it back. Now for some real talk on the battle against isis, the air campaign doesnt seem to be doing much good against isis forces in syria who are threatening now to take control of key town near the border of turkey. Since Coalition Bombing began last month, isis fight verse changed their tactics, making harder to find them while fighting to expand the territory under their control. Keeping it here with some real talk, retired fourstar general jack keene, chairman for the institute of the study of war and fox news military analysts. All right, general, what should we think now about kobani, this town that we just heard greg pal cot reporting on, that it may have fallen to isis . I dont think anybodys able to confirm that. Certainly, thats their interest, their desire, an attack against this town, quite amazing, used ar till letter rick, mortars, tanks and foot infantry to seize this town. It is in their interest in flushing out their caliphate and making certain they are controlling the area. What do you make of the fact that greg palkot reported for us the turkish stanks are sitting there in a defensive mode but really not doing anything . That surprises me, particularly after the Turkish Parliament authorized strike operations on their part and gave use of the base to the coalition. It seems, obviously to anybody looking at that, it is in their interest not to have this take place and certainly, they have strike aircraft that could easily hit these targets as well as artillery. So, im mystifieds as to why they are not doing it the turks, this whole thing from the beginning, have been quite troublesome. And i think they are continuing to be here in terms of perplexing the coalition as to what they are really up to. No doubt, because we thought that they were on board last week as isis moved closer to their country, but maybe not so. All right, let move on to the air strikes. Some people saying that the air strikes are not working. What do you say . I think they are working in terms of degrading some of the isis capabilities, certainly some of their resources. They have disrupted command and control functions, logistic resupply, obviously, no longer training in their base camp, because we take those down. But i think the larger issue, the more strategic issue when you drawback from it, the air strikes have not been effective in stopping isis from being offensive and that is, in other words, their ability to attack at will and have freedom of move, they still have that and we want we want to take that away from them, so our viewers understand, put them on defense, make them vulnerable to ground attacks. How do we do that general . I think we will have to make some changes. One is we need desperately need a joint Operations Center in turkey with the Free Syrian Army like in irbil and baghdad. We need air ground controllers, inescapable after looking at all of this, we need it in iraq and also going to need them with the Free Syrian Army in syria, a change after the declaration of no boots on the ground. It doesnt all have to be about us, syria could be the jordanians, could be the uae as well. And as a result of that, the fact of the matter is our rules of engagement, which is how we target, are restrictive and i think some of our pilots are frustrated by that. Once they get someone to help spot for them, then those rules of engagement would ease up. I think probably the rules of engagement in general are just too restrictive in trying to avoid civilian casualties. I think our pilots know they can do it without harming people. At times, people will obviously get harmed by air strikes. All right, you heard it from general jack keene, an expert in this field. Sir, always great to see you. Good talking to you, gretchen. So, new documents just coming to light showing at least three eyeness as well, that they voiced concerns about some of the al qaeda hijackers, including mohammad atta, seen here months before their deadly attacks on 9 11. How is it possible that those warnings were ignored . We are going to ask a highranking Homeland Security official just that. And a race car flies around a curve and heads right for the crowd. Whoa. What happened next to the terrified fans, coming up. We remember going outside for recess during school and swinginging on the swing set, right . Those days are over for at least one school, administrators banning swing sets because they say they are too dangerous. That brains us to our question of the day, what was your favorite playground activity that you could still do in the 60s, the 70s, the 80s, the 90s and 2000s . Tweet me exgretchen carlson. It eventually flips and over and over again, landing back on the track. Now, youre not going to believe this, none of those people either inside or outside the vehicle hurt. Although we are told one fainted, no doubt why that happened. Wow. What video. In the meantime, secret Court Documents bringing absolutely chilling facts to light about the 9 11 terrorists. So, now we are finding out that at least three eyewitnesses not only spotted but also reported the al qaeda hijackers, including ringleader Mohammed Atta surveying security airports at bostons Logan Airport months before the 9 11 attacks. One of the witnesses testifying said i said specifically, these two clowns are up to something. They have been taking videos and pictures down at the main checkpoint. And then there was a former faa special agent who warned of holes in security at the airport, was certain at least something could have been prevented, saying, im convinced that had action been taken after the sighting of atta, the 9 11 attacks, at least at logan, could have been deterred. So, the big question today is why were no preventive measures taken . Stewart baker, former assistant secretary in the department of Homeland Security is my guest. Great to see you, mr. Baker. Good to be here. It is chilling to find out this information, there were at least three eyewitnesses who saw this suspicious behavior months before the 9 11 attacks. Why was nothing done with it . We have to remember this is material, these are witnesses found by a plaintiffs lawyer whos got a strong interest in saying somebody screwed up among the airlines or the airports and so its worth taking it with a grain of salt. That said, this is not inconsistent with attas behavior. He met one of the the only hijacker who was turned away by customs in the runup to 9 11. He was waiting for him outside of customs to pick him up. So, atta was pretty active inside the United States and didnt seem to be very worried about getting arrested. The interesting thing is because you brought up the plaintiffs attorney, this is coming to light now because some of the families who had family members on these airlines, they sued. This information has now just been revealed. I think whats startling is the fact that the 9 11 commission did not include this in their reports. Do you know why . Its quite possible that they did not hear this. This is these are three witnesses, im sure that the plaintiffs lawyers did a lot of digging on their own to find these witnesses. If they didnt volunteer their testimony, its not clear the 9 11 commission would have found out about them. All right. So, its always, you know, hindsights 20 20 is we say, hey, obviously, if somebody saw anybody doing this now, it would be immediately reported, but its interesting to note that apparently, something could have been done by the basic fact that atta was taking pictures of the checkpoint areas, even back in 2000. That was against the law, was it not . It was its much harder at the time to say youre taking pictures, im going to arrest you. I thought that one of the supervisors who said people have a First Amendment right to look at us and take our picture probably was more accurately reflecting what the reaction of prosecutors and courts would have been. You know, we are sliding back to that kind of pre 9 11 thinking when you look at the reaction to what nsa did in gathering that information. Now, everybody wants to talk about their rights and their privacy and how this might have intruded on it. That was another reaction to a mistake that was made before 9 11 and instead of fixing it, we are trying to actually prevent nsa from continuing to gather that information. Wow. So we are sliding back to a pre 9 11 world. Very interesting comments. Stewart baker, thanks for your comments today. Good to talk to you. So, an american teen arrested in chicago after trying to join isis. He appeared in Court Moments ago. The charges and whats going to be next for this kid. [ cat meows ] [ male announcer ] engineered to kill. Fox news alert, we want to bring you back to the breaking news out of chicago we told but at the top of a show. A 1 9yearold has been arrested for attempting to travel to the middle east to join isis. The teen detained the Ohare International airport in chicago over the weekend after feds found several hand reason minute documents at his home that expressed support for isis. So, there was a socalled notebook and it indicated that the teen wanted to travel to the Syrian Border and fight alongside the terror group. Simon rosenberg is the president of ndn, a democratic think tank and a former Clinton Campaign adviser. David avella, the president of gopac, a Political Training Center for republicans. Guys this is breaking news right now. So, thanks for going with the flow here. Here is one of the things that this guy, this 19yearold apparently wrote in that notebook that i was just talking b we are all witness that the western societies are getting more immoral day by day. I do not want my kids being exposed to filth like this. I extend an invitation to my family to join me in the Islamic State. David, what do you say about this . Well, if true, and certainly, he has a right to a court, but if true, it is he has decided to take up arms against the United States and needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, which i think on cases like this could put him in prison for 15 years, if not more harsh penalties. But it is it cant be tolerated and very troubling, very troubling to hear. Simon, is it positive that the feds were able to catch him before he left is, because we have been hearing more and more, at least 100 americans potentially who have joined isis . Yeah, its very positive and i think that within that 1 00, by the way, there are a bump that have been caught, also before they left. I dont think that government is trying to advertise this, cause i dont think they want to encourage others to go. And so you know, this is one of the reasons why its very important that there was bipartisan support this fall for the actions the president is taking over in syria and iraq. We have got to destroy degrade and destroy, the words the president is using, isis as soon as possible and thats why its important we have been able to build this International Coalition to bring this to a swift less resolution so we dont have more foreign fighters leaving the u. S. To go. Maybe its just me, its still unbelievable scary to me that we have american citizens. Its one this i can if they want to carry out some sort of attack here, but they are leaving this country, the United States of america to go over this guy was going to go to istanbul and he wanted to go to the Syrian Border. , gretchen, the unfortunate reality of the internet these days that it becomes a great recruitment tool for those who want to do harm to the u. S. And based off this story, this gentleman has decided that he has bought into, the message being preached by those who want to do harm to america and it to only underscores the importance that america keep a strong military, that we stay engaged, that we stay on top of this, because for a while, we were sending the message around the world that we wanted to back out and that we didnt want to take the fight to the enemy. And now, we are almost going back to the bush doctrines, is that its better to take the enemy the fight to the enemy than to have the enemy bring the fight to us. Yeah, simon just passed out when you said that. Simon, is he right . Well, what he is right about is that we have to stay vigilant and i think that to stay engaged in the region. And i think that what i applaud the president for doing at his u. N. Speech, he said things no american president had said before, he said its time for the sunnis and the shias to find reconciliation, for the sunni government to stop kwai rhettly, tacitly, you know, funding their rad cat proxies in the region. Okay. We went into iraq, american troops went into iraq, back a few years later because many of the arab sunni governments in the region continue to fund radicals, so we have got to bring this to an end, all told, so my kids and everyone elses kids arent going back in there every four or five years. I think the president made some tough talk and hopefully act upon that beyond what he is doing in iraq and syria in the months to come. A lot of difference of opinion about how we got into this situation we are currently talking about with regard to isis, thats why we continue to have you guys back and we will discuss that at another date. Simon and david, thank you. , gretchen, thank you so much. So, special hazmat crews in dallas right now, they spent days decontaminating that apartment where ebola patient, Thomas Duncan, was staying before being admitted to the hospital for treatment. Have you ever thought about what goes into that process . I mean, how the heck do you clean up ebola . And what happens to all the personal belongings that could contain the ebola germs . Joining me now by phone is brad smith, Vice President of the cleaning guys, the Company Responsible for sanitizing that dallas apartment. Great to have you on the show, brad. First and foremost question is why would you take this job . Well, we work with the city of dallas frequently and we want to, you know, be good citizens here and do what we train to do when called upon. We have preparing for this for quite a while. What do you mean preparing for it for quite a while . Training, obviously not ebola. Never did cross our mind but as far as biohazard and accidents that happen on the highway. We are known for cleaning up the highways. We are called out quite often on major accidents. Okay. You never know what youre going to run into, whats going down the highways. If it can happen, it will happen. We want to be prepared. We are watching your guys in the yellow hazmat suits going in and out of the apartment half do they do with the stuff in there . The cdc recommendations were to triple bag it and put it in drums for transportation. So the guys are going in, obviously, the first thing we did was go in for the what we thought was soiled items by the patient. We took those out first. And then from there, we cleaned out the apartment, everything in the apartment was taken out. What do you clean it with . Well, physically cleaning it and bagging everything first and then we atomized it to get rid of the germs and a bleach solution that was recommended and we also used peroxide, 30 . Okay, now is it true after why you are guys are done in there that they burn those suits that they have on . Well, our suits are going along with the items in the apartment to disposal and we are not directly responsible or associated with the disposal of the items. So, whether they burn them or they are processed is not our situation. Okay. Are you done now cleaning this apartment and by the way, antibiotic the outside of it . We are done. We are completely done with the apartment. We have removed things from the scene and so our trucks are no longer there. Are you paying a lot of money to the guys doing this, brad . Well, definitely crossed my mind. You know, i want to be able to take care of these guys. Yesterday morning, they were woke up at 7 00 to start and they are just now going to their home. They worked straight through from 7 yesterday morning till now. All right. So, you know, obviously, we want to take care of them. A unique perspective to figure out how the heck you clean up ebola. Brad smith, thank you so much for your time. Thank you. Time to check in with harris faller in in for shepherd fox. A call for the facts on this whole thing on ebola, on social media, heres what we are working on for the top of the hour a consultant to the centers for Disease Control and prevention who is also on the Obama Administrations National Advisory committee on children and disasters will join us. Im going to ask him about the real deal with the deadly ebola virus. Already, i know he says an outbreak in the United States is not likely, but we could see more people get the disease as we get farther into the regular flu season. Why is that . Is it too late to start screening airport passengers arriving here or is it time for Something Else . I will see you at the top of the hour. Gretchen, back to you. Thanks, harris. What are we to make by the brutal tactics waged by isis thugs . Are the beheadings pure propaganda to hide a slowdown in their momentum in the middle east it came seemingly out of nowhere, suv plows into a de nut shop, high speed, tragic moments, all caught on surveillance video. And if youve ever struggled for hours putting together ikea furniture, the store has heard your pleas. More on the new furniture made just for you, when we come back. Time to check out what americas clicking on today, ikea. Now announcing a new living room line, they are claiming you can assemble this in five minutes. The Swedish Company attributing its timesaving trick to specific new hardware. That is going to be big news from a brand notorious for taking hours of peoples lives to try and assemble the furniture. And then theres the iraq army vet who lobbed a baseball as if it were a grenade. Did you see this . For a very memorable and unique first pitch before the National League division series. The vet wowed the crowd just ahead of the giants nationals game. The marments of a former army ranger who is now being threatened with beheading by isis releasing a letter written by their son earlier this year. In the letter, peter cass sigg, who changed his that into abdul rahman after converting to islam recently thanked his parents and wrote about how he was afraid of dying that release comes one day after his parents posted this emotional online message. He helped train 150 civilians in skills needed to provide medical aid to the people of syria. His organization gave food, cooking supplies, clothing and medicine to those in need. We are so very proud of you and the work you have done to bring humanitarian aid to the syrian people. Simon marx is the president and chief correspondent at future story news. Great to see you, simon. So, this video, this plea from the parents, does that work with isis . Do they watch these videos . Does that stop them from beheading the next person . Well, theres no indication, tragically that it does, gretchen, given the number of families in a similar situation to the cass cigs that have taken to video. Steven sotloff, the american journalist brutally murdered by Islamic State, his mother took to video so, too, did the wife of alan henning, the british taxi driver who was murdered just last week. It is unclear whether the videos are being seen bile captors of these western hostages. Certainly, openly available on the internet, one could assume the opportunity to see them but obviously falling on dave ears. The interesting thing in this one, the mother actually has a head wrap on. Is that yes. That some sort of an appeal to their faith, their dented faith, as it is those people belonging to isis, is that an appeal . I think its clearly an attempt to try and communicate directly with the People Holding these western hostages in a manner they would find more acceptable than alternative methods of communication. These methods have tried in the past and they have tragically failed, one hopes this works but not filled with a great deal of optimism. What are we to make of the beheading videos in general . Obviously, news organizations are not showing the graphic details. But is isis upping their ante when they continue to make these videos . And are they working . They are clearly designed to shock. They are clearly designed to brutalize western Public Opinion and there has been a bit of a trajectory here when the first video was published, the video showing the murder of james foley, that was instantly available on a variety of online news sites and video sources.
