Demilitarization. Coming up, a live report from gaza and well go indepth with former White House Press secretary Ari Fleischer on what it will take to end this war. In the meantime, new developments in the fight against dangerous terror group slaughtering its way across iraq. Isis fighters gaining ground in the north and forcing thousands of people to leave their homes or risk death. The group conquering cities there as well as in syria and today reports that an iraqi air strike killed dozens of fighters in mosul which recently fell to isis. A lot going on in this part of the world. John bolton joins us now. Lets bring our top stories together. Benjamin netanyahu mentions isis in his talk about hamas and says what were seeing from hamas is a pattern repeated by terrorist groups all over the world. Land grabs and murders. What stops it . The only thing that is going to stop this growth of terrorism as states deteriorate all over the middle east is american involvement with a coalition of others who understand the terrorist threat, the threat of extremist islam remains and is growing. Our policy the past several months has been passivity in the face of isis in iraq and a whole series of other crisis we see developing too. There was an editorial in the Washington Post today saying theres an urgent need in iraq right now for aid, for our money, taxpayer money, to go to iraq and prop up the right people to fight isis. What do you think about that . I largely agree with that. I think we should aid the kurds in iraq and their struggle against isis and aiding the sunni population of iraq that isis is taking advantage of but to help them against isis. Im less interested in helping the al maliki government in baghdad. Im not sure how long hell stay in power. Iran itself is looking for a successor. Thats not good news. Isis is a terrorist threat. Its a real threat. And for weeks now, we have essentially done nothing. Some are saying it controls more territory and more resources than any terrorist group in the history of terror groups. I want to ask you about how what we do in iraq affects the rest of the world. Russia is taking tensions over ukraine up a notch. Watch this. President Vladimir Putin sending more troops to the border ordering retaliatory sanctions. So lets take a big picture look at this. How we handle iraq, how we handle these particular situation, what message do they send to places like russia . It sends a message that United States is uninterested and disengaged. Whatever minimal order and stability there is in the world is because of the United States and its structure of alliances. Our projection of our influence. Over the past several years, the fact is we have withdrawn, turned inward, reduced our influence and whats happening is that chaos is spreading bit by bit by bit. You are absolutely right. The russians watch what were not doing in the middle east. The chinese watch what were not doing in ukraine. And i think a pattern is forming. Let me ask you a simple final question. How do you choose with everything thats happening in the world, how do you choose which is at the top of the priority list to send that message to everybody else out there that the United States is involved and is watching. Theres a long list of priorities. I think the main threat that we face today is the threat of nuclear proliferation. It comes from iran. The same country that arms and finances hamas and were doing next to nothing except negotiating with iran hoping that they will voluntarily renounce their Nuclear Weapons program, which is a charade. Interesting you mention it. Here we are doing these top headlines and you dont see iran in it at all. Its nice to have your perspective and context for whats happening, ambassador. Thank you very much. Great to see you. New details coming in on the fate aal shooting of a twostar general in afghanistan. In the meantime back here at home, a fox news alert and breaking news out of texas out of the city of dallas where a monorail is stuck at the dallas zoo. The Dallas Fire Department is on the scene. Theyre trying to get folks off with ladders and figure out the best way to do that. Its the third time in as many years this monorail has gotten stranded at the dallas zoo. Were not sure what pen that is. We dont think its over anybodys pen. Theres the monorail stuck at the dallas zoo. Deadliest Ebola Outbreak shows no signs of slowing. The number rising to more than 1,700 so far. The death toll since january 1st now more than 900. In the meantime, Global Health officials holding a twoday emergency meeting in switzerland to decide whether to declare it an International Crisis as researchers in the United States are working on a potential treatment for future outbreaks. Jonathan, lets talk about those potential treatments. How would they work . Absolutely. Well, the problem with the ebola virus when it infects human cells, it shuts off their ability to alert the bodys immune system that there is an infection going on but researchers at Auburn University say they developed a compound that acts as an on switch in Laboratory Tests that restores the immune response in animal cells exposed to ebola and other immune blocking viruses. In the future what we learn from how viruses turn off the immune system will open up these other 10 or 12 categories of viruses. Auburn scientists caution that research is preliminary and that their potential treatment will not be ready for current ebola patients but it may offer hope in future outbreaks. We heard about this secret serum that lots of folks are talking about. How does this treatment differ from that . Yeah, well the compound in the auburn study is a small molecule whereas the serum is made out of components of three different antibodies that are grown in tobacco plants. Listen. They work in three different ways. One binds the top of the virus and alerts the immune system to the presence of the invader to destroy the virus. Two others bind to a different part of the molecule and they neutralize the virus. They block the infection. The experimental treatment was given to two american missionaries infected with ebola before they left africa. Dr. Kent brantly and nurse Nancy Writebol are in an Isolation Unit at Emory University hospital in atlanta. Their conditions are said to be improving but medical experts caution its too early to know whether its playing a role in the apparent recovery. I feel like we should call you doctor. Quite a report for us today. A lot to get to. Big story, ebola and one well continue to watch. A cause of death could be announced as early as today in the case of that missing oregon mother. Police discovered herr body in remote wooded area two weeks after she was last seen alive. When she was last seen alive, she was buying trail mix and what was described as a nonlethal dose of sleeping pills. Lets get more on the story from oregon. Sad ending. The autopsy is being conducted right now. Were told it could be done in another couple of hours but again police made the point several times really yesterday at a News Conference that they do not suspect foul play and the public is not in any danger. They say they believe they know how jennifer houston died but are waiting for the official word. Her suv was found on a remote driveway by the Property Owner yesterday morning about 25 miles from where she lived. He told reporters that it looked like it had been there, the car that is, the whole time she was missing and was not damaged. Police found houstons body about 50 yards from the vehicle wearing the same clothes she had on when she left home almost two weeks ago. She told her husband she needed to go run some errands. From there, we know she picked up on a Security Camera picked up withdrawing less than 100 bucks from an atm, filling her gas tank and buying a gatorade and trail mix and sleeping pills at a drugstore. Police said it was a nonlethal overthecounter dosage of pills and wouldnt answer questions whether pills were found at the scene or if anything else was there like a weapon or suicide note. Her husband of ten years passed a polygraph test and was never a suspect. They had two boys together ages 2 and 6 and a message on a Facebook Page that was set up devoted to the search for jennifer houston said simply that they thanked all of the people who were involved in the effort to find her. Jenna . What a mystery. Thank you. A fiery explosion rocking a quiet suburban neighborhood. What witnesses say they noticed before this happened that may be a clue in the investigation. Plus, the president s polling hitting another record but not a good one. A look at the numbers and what they mean when we all hit the polls in november. And this woman makes it through Airport Security and onto a plane without a ticket. Well tell you how she did it next. One Single Person able to do Something Like that just does raise the hackles on the back of the neck a little bit. One person is dead. Five firefighters injured after a massive explosion at a home in long island. The force of that blast threw the roof into a neighbors yard and spaparked a fast moving fir. A woman and child narrowly escaped with their lives. The cause of the explosion is under investigation. People in the area reported smelling gas before it happened but yet unknown to what actually happened here. The president s Approval Ratings hit an alltime low just 40 approve of the job hes doing in the latest nbc news lsh wall street journal poll. 54 disapprove. A possible sign of bad news in november with the president losing support among democrats and africanamericans. Joining me now, chris plante and leslie. Whats the impact of that . Does that make you nervous looking at november that president is losing support among those key constituents . No. Because i understand when you look at the news of june gloom and destruction worldwide which really is june gloom and destruction worldwide you want to blame left or right. The leader of the free world the president of the United States of america. Im not worried because congress has lower Approval Ratings and republicans lower than democrats. Even though november is around the corner, in one sense its a lifetime away. Im not surprised with whats going on in the world that the ratings are what they are. The Approval Ratings as low as they are and obviously im not happy about that. They dont look good but i dont think it will fare badly for democrats in november. Chris, leslie has nerves of steal. We should expect nothing less than that from leslie. Shes not nervous about this at all. What do you think is the real impact . Im surprised that the Approval Rating is as high as 40 . And of course its going to hurt the democrats come november. The president s complete lack of leadership on foreign policy, domestic policy, economic policy, the politics of division are not going i hope at least at long last will serve democrats and president obama well come election day and poll numbers will go down because theres no sign of any change from the current track. You think rest of the democrats will get upswept in this negative feeling toward the president . Oh sure. Absolutely. Thats something that you can expect on election day and forget about disapproval of congress. Thats a different thing all together. The disapproval of the president will translate on election day in favor of republicans and against democrats. Leslie, americans in general are cranky and unhappy. I know thats not news to our viewers. I want to ask you about this other story and how it plays into the Bigger Picture here. We have two suspects that are in the murder of this Border Patrol agent in texas. Theyve been illegal immigrants. Theyve been arrested before. Theyve been deported several times. We know immigration is a major issue and this border crisis a major issue going into november. Is story, the murder of this father, is this a game changer . No, i dont believe its a game changer. We know that numberswise this is not an opinion but facts the overwhelming majority of people that come into this country documented or not dont commit such crimes and loss of a Border Patrol agent is disgusting despite whose hands it comes at. These people have been deported. Chris will say this is a reason why we need beefed up security. The problem is not just trying to stop people from coming here but the corporations dangling the carrot of opportunity. Its what we do with the problem that we have and we dont have any comprehensive Immigration Reform on either side right now and thats going to be an issue and thats not going to go away. Also by the way, even if we built walls around this country and stopped the flow of immigrants country legally and undocumented, it wouldnt prevent such incidents from happening. Apparently they were deported several times. Again, the same question to you, chris. Do you think this isnt a game changer in this debate and it doesnt spark further action and it just sort of goes away . Big issue as it is or do you think this provokes some sort of action where congress hasnt taken any so far . Unfortunately this is the kind of thing that doesnt become a giant issue and game changer if the press doesnt take it up as a cause. I would not expect the press to take it up. We had another border agent several years ago shot to death by more criminals across the border using guns provided to the cartels by eric holder and their fast and furious program. If that wasnt a game changer and ignite things, i honestly dont think this will either. Its the wild west down there. Its time that we got our country under control. A country without borders is not a country at all. Its madness. A trail of tears going from mexicos southern border to mexicos northern border and more people than we can count dying en route and the number of people that we found in texas in the desert dead in the hundreds now. This is truly a calamity. It seems like both stories play together based on the lack of potential reaction to the death of this father and this border agent. One can understand why americans are feeling cranky and unhappy in general about politics. Leslie, chris, great to have you both. Thank you very much. Thank you. New concerns about Airport Security after a woman boards an airplane without a ticket. Its concerning because, i mean, that means anyone could just get on a plane and do whatever they wanted to do. Rescuers managing to pull that elderly woman out of the rubble 70 hours after the quake hit. Landslides and heavy rain have complicated the rescue efforts. Back here at home, some big concerns now about the security of our nations air travel after police say a 62yearold woman was able to sneak past security and get on a flight from san jose, california, to los angeles, without a ticket. Officers say she has been arrested six time before trying to sneak on flights. Still begs the big question here. Adam, how was she able to do this . How did this happen . Thats the big question tsa and Southwest Airlines are trying to answer as they continue their investigation. Theyre not providing much Public Comment to any depth at all because the investigation is ongoing. We do know this. The womans name is marilyn jean hartman. She was arrested on monday. According to sources, she tried to get around tsa agents three times where you check your boarding passes. On the fourth time it worked. She still didnt go through the security screening device and snuck past a gate attendant to the plane. Passengers werent happy with the stowaway andnd the Security Breach. One Single Person able to do Something Like that does raise hackles on the back of the neck a little bit. Its concerning. That means anyone could just get on a plane and do whatever they want to do. Reporter this woman has been arrested before back in february. Shes been arrested three times for doing this. Six times all told. A couple other times arrested for violating orders to stay away from the airport. You understand how passengers feel. So vulnerable after seeing that happen on their flight. Its not the first time weve seen Security Breach of some sort at the san jose airport. Reporter no. You might remember the video back in february of the boy that got into a wheel well and jumped over a fence. He stowed away on a flight to maui. 5 1 2 hours where he somehow at that High Altitude in cold temperatures survived and made it out of the plane alive. That was something that was very disturbing to people when that happened on Hawaiian Airlines then. This woman faces charges as well. Misdemeanor trespassing charges for what she did and airport says theres no reason to worry. Security is still very strong at san jose airport. Interesting. Adam, thank you very much for that. Israel defending its attacks on gaza as a ceasefire sticks for a second day as Benjamin Netanyahu speaks out blaming hamas for the war that left more than 1,900 people dead. Rick . Reporter the Prime Minister said the people of gaza are not our enemy. Hamas is our enemy. The damages here certainly extensive. Among the worst ive ever seen not just in the north but to the south where we were earlier today. Neighborhoods completely shattered. Hundreds if not thousands of buildings leveled or heavily damaged. The idf says that israel tries to avoid civilian casualties but must defend itself. It says it is clear at this point that hamas fighters are intentionally using civilian homes, schools, mosques, even hospitals as hiding places to fire weapons from inviting retaliation hoping to swing Public Opinion to their side. Netanyahu says the goal now for israel is to demilitarize hamas to avoid wars and casualties like weve seen here moving forward into the future and were hearing now that the damage estimates in gaza alone are now 6 billion. Israel says its cost and damages could be as high as 4 billion and counting. Rick, thank you. Woke up to the siren that says code red and my application on my cell phone went off immediately and woke me up and maybe five, six, seconds later i heard the explosion. Thats a snapshot of what some israelis experience every day and now a former u. S. President wants the Group Responsible for firing those rockets into israel to be recognized as a legitimate political group. Former president jimmy carter writing the u. S. And eu should recognize hamas is not just a military but also a political force. Only by recognizing its legitimacy can the west begin to provide the right incentives for hamas to lay down its weapons. Joining me now, Ari Fleischer, serving under george w. Bush. Words matter in theory. When we look at policy, the words we choose have an implication. The u. S. Designated hamas as a terror group. What is the impact of a former president saying theyre not terrorists but politicians. What he did say is moral abandonment of right and wrong. Its moral surrender. Whats troubling about it from a strategic sense is winds are blowing in a different direction in the middle east because of what happened. You think this could actually be damaging even to negotiations that are taking place right now . I think most people will ignore what president carter said. Whats aggravating is things are changing and recognition that hamas because they are terrorist and radical islam, arabs say lets move beyond hamas and help people of gaza. Jimmy carter moving in the opposite direction saying recognize hamas. What do you make of timing of the editorial considering were at the end of a conflict and ceasefire negotiations, what do you make of it . President carter had a couple decade long habit of stepping into these issues that very few americans support. Its consistent with president carters ideology. Its been rejected by many democrats, in his party, and rejected by everyone in the center of this country. The status quo cant be maintained. We dont want a state of war between israel and gaza. What needs to change . If its not words were using, what else . This is whats interesting about what saudi arabia is saying. They are blaming hamas. Theres an opportunity where we heard about 6 billion cost to rebuild, if saudi arabia and egypt start to work with people of gaza and they move hamas out, peace can be achieved. The problem is not people of gaza. The problem is hamas leadership, terrorist to the core. If hamas has no weapons, there will be peace. In israel has no weapons, there will be no israel. This is an opportunity to bring peace to the region by going beyond hamas. Im curious how you would advise the president. Here we are in this news cycle. Editorial comes out. How would you tell him to handle this commentnt the white house gets asked what president carter said, the only answer should be its president carters position and its not that of this administration or president obama. Great to have you on the program. Big story for us today. Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl facing formal questioning today as the army opens its investigation into his capture by the taliban back and whether bergdahl intended to desert when he walk off his military base in afghanistan. Hes retained a civilian lawyer that teaches military law at Yale University who says bergdahl is mentally ready and looking forward to the proceeding. Its important to note that hes not facing charges for now but once the investigation concludes, the general in charge will make recommendations to the armys chief of staff about how bergdahls case should proceed including whether to charge him with deserting. Well keep you posted on that. Lets check in on Shepard Smith reporting live from the fox news deck. It grew to a party of over 2,000 people and ended with at least six drug overdoses, a reported sexual assault, underage drinking and more. If youre a parent that has a 14yearold child thats been able to be at my house all night and according to the police there was a lot of them here. I think some parents should do some reflections on their parenting before they start getting mad at me. The officer told me before he got this call that they were busy doing overdoses. What are these kids thinking . Would you do another one as big . Hopefully maybe bigger. Wow. Is the homeowner right . Should parents be held accountable for underage drinking and what about the Property Damage . The drug overdoses just for starters. Look at that. Our legal panel is with us today. Kent zimmerman, former trial attorney, and we have a former prosecutor and defense attorney here. Kent says he expects his second child in just a few days and a party animal. Guilty. Its the parents fault. Who is responsible . Its the homeowner. Laws vary state to state on this. In michigan where it happened, if you serve alcohol to a minor, if you know about it or even should have known about it if youre the homeowner even if youre not home, youre liable. You can get 60 days in jail. You can also get sued civilly and have to pay for injuries and other damages. Its his fault because he owns the property . What happens when he says theres no way i could have invited 2,000 people. No idea who was on my property. Thats not my fault . How do you get 2,000 people to show up unless you promise them a boy band or you call it woodstock 2. The problem is the law is not on the homeowners side. As kent said, if you allow your home to be open to those people, to those invitees and havoc ensues and you have 2,000 people drinking and drugging on a property, im sorry. Bad things are going to happen. You are responsible. Even if he didnt supply the alcohol and thats not part of it and he doesnt let them in the front door, theyre standing on the front yard. Theyre on the property. Doesnt matter who supplied it if he knew or should have known underage people were getting served on the property. Hes on the hook. He has a problem. Its not like he can step back if he wasnt actually the one serving it. I wonder on how many parents want to listen to his advice on parenting. I want to ask you about another house party. This is a trend. Theres an example in upstate new york. A man hosted a Massive House Party last month. Hes 23 years old. Hes charged with thirddegree criminal trespass because his mother is pressing charges. He had 700 guests at her house without her permission. A hearing scheduled for a date in september. Theres concern about him showing up. This is a different situation. Hes not the homeowner. It is his house. His mother is pressing charges. How do you figure this one out . His mother, good for her. Thats really the only way that the mother as the homeowner is going to escape some liability if she says wait a minute. Youre responsible if you allow people on property. By claiming her son was not allowed to throw that party, he was trespassing, she can remove herself a little bit legally from it. If you invite other people to other peoples property, youre not liable if theyre not home. Is that what were basically saying . You can host a party. If homeowner doesnt know and homeowner isnt liable, can you still be liable if youre inviting someone to someone elses property . You can and you need to use common sense. The kid in upstate new york is 23 years old and has hundreds of people over to his moms house without her consent. She didnt want him there and having 700 people there with damage that causes. A real life scenario is your kid wants a party after the prom and theres a couple dozen people and how careful do you need to be as a parent . My advice is dont let it happen. Let kids misbehave on your own grounds, not a good idea with friends. Dozen anyone know 700 people . Who are these people . Very popular. Thank you very much. Great to have you both. Lots of restaurants are promoting deals through social media or smartphone apps but one eatery is getting a lot of attention for rewarding what its owner calls an attitude of gratitude. This is big news as lots of us get ready to go back to school, the days of the School Bake Sale may be numbered because of federal nutritional guidelines that nix a lot of our favorite home made treats. Ice cream sandwich, doughnuts, candy and soda are out. Granola bars and fruit cups are okay. Well explain it with our panel today. We have to talk about the difference between standards and laws. Ill get to you in a second, wendy. You must have fond memories of the bake sale and now federal standards might push them away. What do you think . I think its obviously difficult because as a kid you just want and as a parent who has these kids the main goal is to motivate them. Motivate them to get off the couch. Motivate them to be entrepreneurs. Motivate them to live the american dream. By the federal government putting another law on these children and on the School Systems its frustrating. So the states can choose if they will follow the standards. Okay you can only have 30 days of bake sales. Others say you can say ten. Others will follllow the standas and say no bake sales, sell carrots. What the states will have to decide whether or not they will impose restrictions and if so how severe are those restrictions going to be . We all remember with fondness now with nostalgia all the things you could buy at the bake sale. You got to think bake sale dont cause obesity, overeating causes obesity. Lego facing some back slash over a new collection geared towards girls. This comes in stark contrast to a previous line that critics slammed for promoting gender stereotypes by focusing on beauty and shopping. This is toys and i dont think there should be any controversy surrounding this. It represent as sign of the times and we should celebrate the fact as we agree women can do anything they want and do it in make up and high heels.
