>> reporter: this is a huge development. as you mentioned, it appears at this point the search for these three missing teens is coming to a very tragic end. even though the families, israeli officials had been hoping they would be found alive. we are still awaiting more information, more confirmation of details but at this point what fox news is being told and what israeli officials are also confirming is that the boys' bodies were found in a field north of the palestinian town of hebron which is in the west bank. right now massive contingent of israeli military forces are moving in there. now just the background here. the teens disappeared june 12th and in the 18 days since then, the israeli army has conducted an exhaustive search throughout the west bank, arresting hundreds of palestinians and raiding numerous locations. israeli officials have blamed a mass, though no one has specifically claimed responsibility for the abductions. but a couple days ago, the israeli military did release the names of two possible palestinian suspects with ties to hamas. but it is unclear if those two -- if those two men have anything to do whatsoever with this. now violence has increased in the west bank and also the gaza strip since these abductions, since the teens went missing. by the way, they were hitchhiking, trying to get a ride home from school in the west bank when they disappeared. the violence has really increased with rockets being launched at southern israel, even 16 overnight. and over the weekend as well with the israeli air force striking about a dozen hamas military targets. so again, martha, appears the search at this point for these three missing israeli teens has come to a tragic end. >> indeed. it remains to be seen how tensions may or may not escalate from here. tense situation there. john, thank you very much reporting live from jerusalem. now to new reaction on the other big story that we are covering here. this comes from the white house. as the u.s. supreme court rules against the administration and they rule in favor of religious freedom in one of the most hotly debated cases of the year. the high court cited with hobby lobby on the question of obamacare's contraception mandate. justices ruled in a 5-4 opinion that some employers can refuse to offer insurance coverage for some types of birth control because of religious objections. the decision means that if the obama administration wants to provide those types of contraception on those companies' health plans, they're going to have to find a way to pay for it themselves. you know who that means, the u.s. taxpayer could get the bill for those. the white house already spinning the wheels to try to make that happen. >> we believe that this -- because of the supreme court decision today, that congress should act to address the concerns of the women who were affected by this decision. >> with congress as divided as it is now, how likely is that to happen. >> we will consider whether or not there is an opportunity for the president to take some other action that could mitigate this problem as well. >> what does that mean? author of fox news first, clearly, this is a loss today for the white house and they're trying to figure out how they're going to cover these four other means of contraception that are now not covered in these situations. >> well, yes. you know what that means. the pen, the phone, et cetera and maybe the president better act fast before the supreme court again curtails his ability to use executive authority to do what congress won't. maybe. but what we know the white house treats as a win in this is the ability to fire up the democratic base and raise money. the fund-raising appeals are going out. the hot language. i suspect the president won't be able to resist for very long going out in public and talking about this, no doubt citing his own daughters and using this as a device through which to attack republicans to talk about the need for democratic control of the senate. when remember, we are likely to have some supreme court appointments coming through. i would think that while this is a legal loss for the president and his efforts to compel employers to provide the morning-after pill for women, they'll make a fund-raising win out of it anyway. >> john boehner made some comments on this. this is from a statement that he put out today. he said, "today's decision is a victory for religious freedom and another defeat for an administration that's repeatedly crossed constitutional lines in pursuit of its big government objectives. the president's health care law remains an unworkable mess and a drag on our economy. we he must repeal it and enact better solutions that start with lowering americans' health care costs." obviously not wasting the opportunity on the republican side either to take advantage of this, chris. where do we go from here? >> well, where we are now is essentially this is hugely important for this administration from a philosophical grounds. when you talk about the number of human beings in america who work for closely held corporations, owners of which, families have demonstrably deep religious convictions -- is probably not that many, especially not that many who want the morning-after pill who are looking to buy -- have free access to plan b. so that's a very small universe of people but the president -- the message it sends is this is a court interested in individual liberties and they are looking for ways, majority on this court, we've seen it again and again, increasingly willing to restrain this administration and increasingly willing to side with individuals against the government. if that's the trend, this administration knows, given its bad record of late with the court, they could have some more trouble down the road. >> exactly. it is highly possible that although this is a narrow decision it may inspire others out there who say, look, i have feelings -- strong feelings about this, too, and i don't want to cover this or that for my employees. we'll get into this in a little bit. chris, thank you very much. so americans are facing a dangerous new terrorist threat. a new generation of bombs that can escape detection by airport security are reportedly being developed by radical islamic militants in syria. the discovery, understandably, has raised some real alarms here in the united states. how could these bombs escape detection, doug? >> martha, we know that richard reeve escaped detection with his shoe bomb. he just couldn't get it ignited on board the plane. sa we know bombs have been contained in printer ink cartridges. there is new concern thatitis forces in iraq and syria may be working in tandem with yemeni bombmakers to generate bombs that could be hidden in makeup containers or in clothing, in toothpaste tubes or in printers built in non-metallic containers with low vapor explosives making them very difficult to detect. what makes this all the more frightening, known to be among isis forces fighting in iraq and syria are hundreds of westerners carrying u.s. or european passports. >> we're working hard to identify those who might want to travel, those who are over there so we can figure out who to watch when they come back. >> u.s. officials are imploring foreign governments to bolster airport security. >> i can't give you all the details but that's very important to do because a number of airports do not have the types security they should have. basically we're saying anyone that will be having someone fly to the u.s. they have to increase their security. >> terrorism experts say on three different occasions in recent years al qaeda in the arabian peninsula evaded airport security and was able to smuggle bombs on-board planes. >> how do they boost airport security, try to fine tune what they're doing to detect these devices? >> that's all under discussion right now. just what form that security might take is not yet known. if it is undertaken it would probably involve some form of increased random screenings of passengers targeting certain types of travelers and their points of origin. more bomb-sniffing dogs and more visible presence of security personnel for passengers who pass through security lines. this is all under discussion. no concrete solutions as of yet though. >> so many questions raised by this, doug. thank you very much. facebook is sparking a huge public outcry today following word that they conducted a secret social experiment on some of their users. were you one of them? the social network giant saying they tried to influence users' emotional states by manipulating the types of posts that they were receiving. david lee miller joins us live with more on this. david, why are people so very upset about this had? >> you said it very well, mar are that. people simply did not know they were going to end up here as human guinea pigs. that's why they were so angry. when a user signs up for facebook, yes, they agree to all those terms and conditions, page after page of them. among other things, the fine print says, facebook can use data collected for research. that's exactly what happened here. in this case back in january of 2012 the company manipulated the news feed of about 700,000 members. the news feed provides information to facebook users from other members. in some cases here, good news was omitted, in other instances bad news was omitted. then facebook measured how recipients respond online. quoting the study, "when positive expressions were produced, people produced fewer positive posts. and more negative posts." when yeg nnegative posts were reduced, the opposite pattern occurred." it pointed out that your emotional state affects your well being, in other words, feeling sick today? it could be because of something you read on facebook. >> have to try to stay away from all that negative emotion. there is a new twist in the hunt for justice for a toddler who tragically died after his father left him sitting in a hot car. what an awful story this is. the dad is already charged with murder. and now police have uncovered evidence that puts his mom under the hotspot light as well. so could she possibly face charges, too? plus, general motors saying that the sky is the limit to putting no cap on how much they are willing to pay those who were hurt by their faulty ignition switches. are we talking millions of dollars here or even billions, potentially? before the root canal. i like this idea. a growing number of new york dentists, only in new york, are apparently serving complimentary wine to calm your nerves before -- does everyone have to schedule their appointment for 5:00? we'll talk about that with you coming up. that brings us to our facebook question of the day -- what would you like your dentist to offer you in the waiting room? bellman: captain: thanks, captain obvious. captain: and here's a tip. when you save money on hotel rooms, it's just like saving money on anything else that costs money. like shoes, textiles, foreign investments, spatulas, bounty hunters, javelins... this is the most awful story of the summer. there is new developments in the case of a toddler who died in the back seat of the family's suv in suburban atlanta after police say that his father forgot that he was there. he was on his way to work and he was supposed to drop him off at daycare on the way there and he claims that he forgot and that he just went to work. the little boy's dad is charged with murder in this case, but now his mother who is not facing charges, even though she admitted to investigators that she had researched children dying in hot cars just as her husband had. what is going on with this. she also came out and defended her husband. she said he is a good father. joini in in ing us now, a fox l analyst. >> we know that the searches came from the computers. the mother actually said that she confessed that being on the computer. both of them? and the circumstances are so odd that the father was supposed to take the child, cooper, to the daycare. forgot. came back for lunch. put an item in the car at lunch. didn't notice that his child -- remember, the degree was about 88 to 92 during that day? didn't notice anything? and then drives around with the kid after he gets off his shift? cooper's dead at that point. to have the two parents both researching that, martha, it doesn't look good. if i were prosecuting this, i would be absolutely looking at this and looking at accomplice charges and i hate to say bringing one parent against the other, but if i were prosecuting this, bringing the mother in saying, look, we know about what you looked at, we know about your husband what he looked at, was there some kind of planning here, aiding and abetting, did this just happen as an accident? talk to us. come to jesus moment. >> very strange to search. neighbors and friends say that he is understandably despondent db. >> of course. >> the wife understanding how devastated he must be -- you can't even wrap your head around imagining. i could see searching my child just swallowed this, what do i do. but everyone it is common sense not to leave a child in a hot car. there wouldn't be something technical you'd have to search about learning that. >> why go back? maybe you did forget. people forget things. all right? even their children, which is kind of a horrible thing to say. but all right. so let's assume he forgot that. then he goes back at lunch. he drops something in the -- according to the arrest warrant, drops something in the car. doesn't even notice that little cooper strapped you up in the back seat? doesn't even notice that with that degree -- >> if it was an accident, in a way doesn't that -- isn't that something towards his side? because he would never admit, i went back during the middle of the day if his motives were bad -- >> another thing. wouldn't the mom or the daycare or somebody else or the mom say -- >> where is he? >> exactly. where is little cooper? where is he? we're talking about a toddler. >> that's not the way that works with little kids. way they're not there, somebody calls. >> we're both moms. we would get a call. it just doesn't make any sense. you know what? you said it exactly right. this is the most -- researching this case this morning, it is so sad. >> you don't want to do the story, it is so sad and so awful. >> but these things are suspicious. >> let's check them out. so coming up, the supreme court, big, big action today. they dealt a setback to the union's ruling that they can't take dues from non-members despite some state laws that make those fees mandatory because they say you're arguing collectively for everybody out there, even people not in the union when you get wages an benefits. our panel will look at the fallout to this and what it could mean for the future of unions in this country that have been diminishing in their power considerably. we'll be right back.g the me . veggies you're cool... mayo, corn dogs...you are so out of here! ahh... the complete balanced nutrition of great tasting ensure. 24 vitamins and minerals. 9 grams of protein... with 30% less sugars than before. ensure, your #1 dr. recommended brand now introduces ensure active. muscle health. clear protein drink and high protein. targeted nutrition to feed your active life. ensure. take life in. starts at 6:30 a.m. - on the (vo) rush hounose.und here but for me, it starts with the opening bell. and the rush i get, lasts way more than an hour. there is a lot of situations where people are told to pay the union dues, even if they don't want to be in the union. and alsole many people are aware that there are -- a lot of that money goes toward political ends that many of them don't agree with. >> exactly. not surprising julie and i disagree on this one. this is a big day for workers who want to control their own money. not only has the supreme court now continued to chip away at this, states have continued to chip away at this where they have in many states said public union employees don't have to pay union dues, and guess what happens? union mechanical bers ombers op their dues toward political causes because they don't want to continue to see their money used for negative ads, oftentimes going against the very candidates they are supporting. >> a lot of the times it actually goes for collective bargaining and other benefits that these members are getting. my attitude is this -- this was not the case in this very narrow decision. but usually if you're getting benefits of collective bargaining, if the union is saying, you know what? i don't. necessarily like the fact that you don't support me, i'm still going to fight for your right to get higher wages, i'm still going to fight for your right to get higher benefits. that's what you are paying for. if you don't want to get the benefit, don't be part of the union. >> what members of many unions across parts of the country say we don't see the value from our union any longer. that's why we're down to 7%? obviously they're not seeing value. minus government workers who are forced to pay. when given the option, when given the freedom, workers choose freedom and say i'm not paying union dues. >> leave it there. david and julie, thank you very much. big decision today. a terrifying ordeal at 38,000 feet. a 737 flying from chicago to los angeles when all of a sudden the emergency chute that's supposed to be a slide when something bad happens popped out with a huge bang. trace gallagher is live with more on this. something else you don't expect when you're up in the air, trace. >> no, it's kind of scary. 96 passengers and five crew members on-board at the time. initial reports were that someone tried to open one of the back doors. the airline says that was never the case and the plane never, ever lost its -- what do you call it -- cabin pressure. when you chute deployed, the passengers grabbed their cell phones, began recording this thing. most passengers say it sounded like something just kind of snapped or broke but listen to this woman. >> big bang and a his. and they just had had a panicked look and they quickly took the carts and ran backwards to the front of the plane and then we all turned around and the whole back cabinet part of the plane where they sat was full of the chute. >> yeah. former nebraska cornhusker quarterback taylor martinez was also on-board. he said he was a bit shaken, tweeting out, "scariest flight ever. #emergencylanding." the plane was diverted, landing in wichita, kansas. it is now being looked at by both maintenance crews as well as the ntsb. the passengers have now all been placed on other flights here to southern california. this has happened before a couple of times. just last november, jetblue had one of its slides diverted to orlando. no danger there. and in 2008, then candidate barack obama had had a slide inflate on his campaign plane. there again was no danger. but if you've never heard one of these things inflate, martha, it happens in like five seconds and it sounds like this loud crack. >> i can't imagine. only in this day and age does the first reaction to this sort of disaster to get out your cell phone and start videoing it. thank you very much, trace. what a crazy world, huh? let's check in with john scott who's in today for shepherd smith reporting live from the news deck. >> hi, martha. the militants fighting their way through iraq have now declared a new islamic state. we have watched as they took over huge chunks of the country. in the next hour we'll talk about this with the author of the world's most dangerous places, robert young pelton. he says the u.s. intervention is exactly what these extremists want. that's all ahead. >> wow. we'll look for that. so we are awaiting some news that we understand is coming on immigration reform and we're going to take you there to hear about that. it is moments away. we'll he bring you that live, see what is up from the white house at this hour. and a girl pitching on a boy's baseball team is remarkable enough. but this 17-year-old athlete taking it to a whole new level. imagine routine batting practice with a major league team. and look at her, chelsea baker. you stick around, we're coming up right after this. hey. i'm ted and this is rudy. say "hi" rudy.
