0 giving that out every couple of months. potential new problem for hillary clinton and any white house aspiration she might have following a harsh new report on the benghazi terror attacks. an investigation finding 2012 assault on our consulate could have been prevented. ald chris stevens and three our americans killed that night. the former secretary of state is largely absent from that report. now questions whether it could sink any hopes of a 2016 presidential run. a writer for the washington free weekend. good to see you. >> good to see you. >> the interesting thing about this report, it seems to say, yes, they should have known this. no, it wasn't about the videotape. hillary clinton is barely mention bid name in it. will she escape any association then? >> i don't think so. i think everyone recognizes at the end of the day she was the leader of the state department when this happened. we know if she was in charge and they were telling them since the summer of 2012 there were serious security concerns in libya, she should have taken proactive action as the leader to prevent them. she didn't. i think whether her name is mentioned or not is irrelevant. it still is going to an issue of her leadership. that's going to be a big problem for her. >> at the same time the report doesn't detail whether any of these warnings that we're speaking of here or requests for more security actually reached mrs. clinton's desk. so again, will she be able to say as she did during testimony earlier, i never saw those requests. i don't know anything about it. >> she can say that. i think at the end of the day, then would say you should have, you need to pay attention what's going on in the middle east. for me what this benghazi situation poses for hillary in 2016 are two-fold. first leadership and competency. i think that's shown from what you see senate intel committee. they knew about the threats for over a year before it happened and didn't take proactive measures to make sure our guys overseas were safe. second, the issue of integrity, what came out of james rosen's reporting, they nu leon panetta sat with that colonel hamm, he told them, this is a terror attack. then they went to a meeting at the white house then denied two weeks it was a terror attack. these lying. those are two big issues she's going to have to answer for. >> maybe her biggest difficulty, she did plame it on the videotape days after that. i want to draw your attention to this "time" magazine cover that's about to come out. this shows hillary clinton and "can anyone stop hillary?" what do you make of the headline there. >> when you look at democratic nominees she's leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else. if benghazi becomes an issue it will hurt her. i think it will. benghazi has been a complicated issue to understand. a lot of people don't pay tons of attention to foreign policy. you know what people do understand? lying. at the he said of the day for two weeks she said it was a video. when you boil it down to, why did you lie? i can't discuss it now for security reasons. a lot of people won't understand why she, step two, gave an alternate explanation for what happened, the video. still at the end of the day it's a lie and people will understand that. this has a potential to derail 2016, this is the biggest national security issue that's happened under her career. >> it's an interesting report, and there's time before 2016 but you never know. great to see you today, thanks so much. >> you bet. senior officials telling fox of a brand-new video showing army sergeantbe berg dahl. it could be proof he's still alive. we may hear more about this. a spokesperson for the family, and he is my guest. good to see you, colonel. >> thanks for having me, gretchen. >> after all the years i can't imagine the pain, wondering the where bouts of their sorn. when they see some video from last november, what have they told you. >> last four years an extreme roller coaster. i wouldn't wish it on any family. having been with the family, i wouldn't wish it on anybody. as for the video, i can't speak of a video. i haven't seen it myself. yesterday's opportunity was a chance to capitalize and reach out to the news media, the captors, to plead for his release and try to stay strong during the ordeal. >> we're showing an image from this video where it's being described he looks shaken and gaunt. my question to you, colonel, is what was the last indication his family had before this that he was alive? >> there were several videos that came out when he was first captured last year. last year through the international red cross the family received a letter they can verify was from bo. it was his handwriting. that was big in their lives. hopefully this video is true and bo is alive and well. >> what impact could the failure of the obama administration to negotiate the security deal with hamid karzai have on the ability to get bowe's release. when the troops come home, could they leave him behind? >> that's something i couldn't address. i recommend my colleagues in the pentagon discuss that in the state department. what i want to talk about is thebethe berg dahl family, having him come home safely to his parents, that's what we're looking to see. what we've got legions of supporters, idaho, hometown of haley idaho but throughout the country. that's what they are leaning on. >> the entire company. the pentagon will have a press conference. they may speak about this in a few minutes. colonel, thanks much for your time. >> thanks for having me. police in indiana searching for clues after a terrifying supermarket shooting. it happened in elkhart. three people including the shooter killed last night. police say the gunman had no ties to anyone at the store. >> we have no reason to believe that anybody else was involved with this other than him. i don't believe anybody there knew what his name was or had any physical interaction with him. they just knew him by sight. >> investigators identifying the suspect as 22-year-old baer. >> the corner of his eye, the incredible catch coming up. crews battling a wildfire as they try to contain a brush fire near a national park. a live report coming up. front and center on capitol hill. >> is not secure today. nothing has really changed since november 19th testimony. in fact, from our november 19th testimony, it's even worse. >> tech experts singing a very different song than the administration on whether the obama care website is still vulnerable to hackers. our political panel is up next to weigh in on what all this means moving forward. burning ou.
