First, we will remember it and we all agreed with it and it was one of the biggest, clearest and most important promises don trump made during his campaign. When we went on november 8 we are going to washington dc and we are going to drain the swamp. Steve that pledge was one of the main reasons people thought donald trump would be different. He told the truth about our political system because he came from outside our political system. He told the truth about establishment elitist candidates like Hillary Clinton and frankie, jeb bush. They were the puppets of their donors. Everyone knows that is true but no politician had ever said it before because it was true of all of them. Donald trump told the truth about the way that laws are made and our tax dollars get spent to favor the interests of the wellconnected elites with their dodgy lobbying and their smug dinner parties and their fake think tanks peddling policy ideas that are more lobbying in disguise. He expose the corrupt revolving door between big business and Big Government in the way that so many swamp creatures in washington dc think of their time in congress or the federal bureaucracy, not as serving the public, but as a way to make millions once they have left. Well, the American People got sick and tired of all the corruption. It is a big part of the reason donald trump is president today. As the black swamp put it id rather rich people went into government and people went into government to get rich. So, one year on our be doing on drain the swamp . Ive been through Donald Trumps contract with the American Voter published in october 2016 just a month the election. Here is the news which i dont suppose youre anywhere else when it comes to draining the swamp most of his six promises have been deliberate. A hiring freeze on federal workers wasnt permitted, the requirements for two regulations to be cut for every new one introduced has been met, spectacularly. Twentytwo regulations the fiveyear lobbying band and the has been introduced to white house officials but not for congress. Not bad for one year but what is next . Heres my agenda to keep draining the swamp. Get power out of washington by radically cutting the federal bureaucracy and returning control policy to the states. We will discuss that later with pete when we talk about the convention of statesmen. Cut the corruption by stopping members of congress from getting involved in any area of policy where they have received donations from a special interest affected by that legislation. And, turn up the revolving door by putting a lifetime lobbying ban on any Government Official or member of congress or their staff. That is the next revolution we need. Please, tell me what you think. Follow us on twitter and have your say. Joining me now to discuss all of this the spokesperson for the National Committee and author of the new American Revolution the making of a populist movement, kaylee. Kaylee, you got the new revolution in for the next revolution and you talk about a populist movement and i think its safe to say were on the same page so it is great to see you tonight. Thank you for joining us. Great to see you, do. Steve lets start with draining the swamp and whats your assessment one year on of how it is going in terms of meeting that very important pledge from election . Steve, your monologue was spot on. Im so glad youre the first host i can think of that has gone back to this contract and matched it up against what President Trump has actually done. You encourage me to take a look at it and i looked at it a year ago and when i looked i was putting down checkmark after checkmark. This is someone, this president , is someone who went into washington for most politicians to go to the swanky cocktail parties and the establishment and become the establishment President Trump has not. You talk about tpp, withdrawing from that the temporary travel pods from hotbed countries that was something difficult to implement and it wasnt easy and it forced but present time got it done. Sitting 22 regulations for everyone, not to as he promised but more than that. Point by point he is achieved that astonishing rate. Steve so, some of the promises touched on congress and i know that this is an area you know very well and you are right there not literally tonight but most of the time you are there in the thick of the swamp. Raising money is a huge part of what they do and you are familiar with that. We had a congressman on the other day, mike gallagher, the other week talking about how even to get Committee Assignments within congress they have to raise a particular amount of money and they collect dues and the role of money in all of this and the special interest that can afford the money seems to be a huge thing. Its hard for the president to act on that because he doesnt run congress. In a way, congress has reported suffering whats your take on that . Is the president during the swamp revolution touching what goes on in congress at all . That is largely in Congress Hands but i would argue to every elected official out there money is important when running a campaign and of course it is, we raise money and were part of the records we set but look at President Trump and what he was able to achieve with half of what the other campaign spent in the primary. Half of what Hillary Clinton spent. He won the election, not with an extraordinary amount of money. He won because of authenticity. Every candidate out there, rather than closing up to special interest and lobbying be honest here, voter, materialize on your promises and be authentic because authenticity wins elections. Steve that is such a great points. I think thats one of the reasons he stood out because he had a message that was really different from anything people had heard before and it wasnt the same talking points. That is a really found point. Last week we had anthony security on the show and we got into a discussion around the federal bureaucracy and the Administrative State because this swamp corruption that goes on is behind closed doors and its this enormous bureaucracy and the bureaucracy and special interest understand how that all works and they can get their teeth into it and i was encouraged the other day when i saw a news report that they were to come forward with plans to make it easier to cut back the bureaucracy and to fire the workers and anthony said that was something they worked on during the transfer edition and do you know what is going on with that . Her audience love to see action there. Absolutely be what. President trump has rescinded 22 regulations for everyone and that deals with the Administrative State and how we can dismantle that because thats where this gets caught up and i know with infrastructure in particular President Trump is taking a hard look at this and why does it take a decade or longer to get approval through this mass bureaucracy to fix roads and bridges and engage in new products. Its unacceptable. Hes laid out a plan to make to streamline the process and we only have to stop that one agency, not four or five. You can proceed with your project at a faster pace. The infrastructure around, in particular, thats where was the movement and dismantling the Administrative State. Steve fantastic. Kaylee, an important point there because as you just described its the big corporations, the big interest that understand how to navigate all that complexity and the smaller businesses that are left out. Thank you for that example. Thank you for joining us tonight. Hope to see you again soon. Thank you, steve. Steve coming up, who knew that americas farms were really one big swamp. Saltwater exposes the farm bill later in the show. Later in the show. Next, pete more and more people are finding themselves in a chevrolet for the first time. Trying something new can be exciting. The Late Supreme Court justice, louis brandeis, was famous for promoting the idea of federalism. He like to refer to the states as the board carries of democracy were individual states could pioneer their own ideas on issues like education and welfare. But we seem to be heading in the exact opposite direction today. Government is getting more and more centralized in washington dc. Now theres a new movement that would give states more of a say it comes to governing. Correspondent anita explained. Congratulations, senator thank you, mr. President. Tears break out in the legislator when it became one of 12 states to agree to take part in a convention of state. A movement to propose amendments to the constitution and imagine representatives from 50 states meeting the way the Founding Fathers did back in 1787. I think its the ultimate super bowl of american politics. There is nothing like this has been done in american history. Mark is the president of the convention of States Project and he has gone around the country promoting and educating people about the convention aimed at crafting proposals to shift power from the federal Government Back to the people. Some of the goals include reducing federal regulations, imposing term limits in forcing a balanced budget. Word is the invention come from . Straight from our five in the constitution which says the legislators of two thirds of the state shall Call Convention for proposing amendments. Article five was written into the constitution because our founders were suspicious of the strong federal government seizing too much power and they wanted to give an opportunity for the document to change. The idea is not without its hype while detractors. They want radical, pull them up by the root change, they want to have a Constitutional Convention to rewrite our constitution to make it friendlier to business and to inject religious and ideological elements. In addition to Hillary Clinton there is major opposition from almost every progressive group. A letter from common cause signed by more than 200 organizations from labor unions to the sierra club warning that such a convention would be dangerous for america but legal experts point out the hurdles built into the constitution should calm fears of radical changes. Thirtyeight out of 58 states would have to agree on whatever amendment was proposed on the convention in order to it be ratified. Proponents remain optimistic. Mark says whenever he feels like the bar for changes to high he imagines himself in a conversation with ben franklin. I thank you asked me this question, what about article five and have you used article five . We gave it to you for this purpose and when i sheepishly said well, no, 230 years we just havent i think he would dismiss me and i think he would say go do it, go try it and let us know how it works out. A total of 34 states need to agree to call the convention. In los angeles, anita vogel for the next revolution. Steve dont you love the way that the progressive groups are dead against it and its supposedly there for people power. To me now cohost a box up and again, pete. Im so excited to talk to about this because of literally one of my passions the decentralization of power. You first for me on to this and you talk to me about convention and what their aims were and how theyre going about this and tell us why you care about it so much. This is what your show is all about. This is literally the next revolution without shots being fired. This is the people taking the power back from washington and saying the federal government will do it then we will and we will partition our state legislators to make sure that we have a voice in our government. Right now 12 states have passed it in another 30 states, 30, have i ever passed it in the state legislator or are actively considering it. That means you could call a Constitutional Convention in our time where you push to limit term limits, balanced Budget Amendment to limit the scope of the federal government and you and i both no, we cant count on bureaucrats in the federal government in the swamp to limit itself. It never will. It will always be the people step up to say, we will take our Government Back. Im enthusiastic about this idea. Is early but its growing and building. As someone who give speeches across the country all the time, icy grassroots conservatives dedicated to this moment, convention estates, and committed to ensuring that it rains in washington dc. You are ahead of the curve, steve. You are following this and this is the next revolution. It is possible. Steve i totally agree with you. After you told me about it i mentioned it in one of my Opinion Pieces on foxnews. Com and got a huge reaction. The thing im interested in, that reaction from the left particularly with Hillary Clinton going on about how outrageous this is if im not mistaken the constitution itself specifies that everything that isnt in there that is given to the federal government to take care of should be handled at the state level and weve gone so far away from that and this is part of the constitution to return power to the state. Pete of course, steve. We shall be known by our enemies. The fact that Hillary Clinton on her book tour decided to bring this issue up unprompted is a recognition that ultimately convention of state is something the left sees as very threatening to the growth of government over the last 100 years. It is not just her, over to the roof, as you mentioned in the intro, come together to fight against this movement. It means they recognize its the one way in which conservatives can absolutely curtail government. As much as i support what the president has done on repealing the individual mandate and the tax cuts and the regulations have been rolled back those are important but government continues to grow in size and scope and we cannot count on the next commanderinchief that may be. Only the people can ultimately say we will bring this back. George soros, Hillary Clinton, the left they are so concerned about conventional states. They want to kill it in the grip and the reality is grassroots and folks like yourself to see the possibility say that we have a constitutional republic. Our founders gave us article five in the past this motion two days before the convention was closed to ensure that not just the federal government could say what is possible but the states could come together and petition that federal government to change the constitution. Why not now, steve . Why not now when we see the growth of government so significantly choking freedoms of individuals i think now could be the moment but you got 12 states that have passed it in over two dozen considering it actively. Steve i completely agree. You put it really well. Im pretty confident in saying that most of people in our audience watching tonight will be on our side on this. What can they do to help make it happen . What specifically should people do to try and advances cost . Pete this is the beauty. Go to convention states. Com and learn about this organization but as someone who has run grassroots groups in the past it is difficult to motivate people because oftentimes you have this amorphous sense of what people can do. The reality is if you want to save your country you can lobby your state legislator so go to that state representative, that state house, the tate senator who you know wellin your own backyard and say, hey, you want to say this country . Pass this bill for your committee, pass it to the state, have the governor sign it and contribute to this cause because once estate passes it is a part of the number that would have to get to the majority to bring it before the country. Its the ultimate grassroots vehicle because its a federal problem with a local solution in for patriots who care about the country you dont have to come talk to your senator in washington or your congressman in washington, you could go to your state legislator and push it. Its the ultimate grassroots tool. The movement is in our constitution and here is the perfect vehicle, your show. Im grateful to you, steve, for being a part of it. Im doing everything in my personal time to push this change because the bureaucrats are never going to do it programs like this Movement Like this will take the power back. Steve you said it, pete. You are so right. Will make sure will put that address up for our audience so they can take the practical steps. One other aspect is not just about the petitioning but you got to elect people and believe in this so that you got the receptive audience in those state legislators and people overlook the importance of those state legislative elections and only think about congress where the state level is so important. Pete, thank you very much. Really, really appreciate it. Org steve washington dc may be hopelessly divided on most things but on one issue, our swampy congress, is unusually bipartisan. A single piece of legislation nearly 1000 pages long cost you the taxpayer 956 alien dollars. Its all set to be renewed in a few months time. A lot of that money goes toward subsidizing giant Agriculture Companies at the expense of Small Farmers. They get screwed in consumers who get disgusting industrialized food that literally makes us sick. The farm bill is tonight storm watch. The farm bill was first drafted in the 1930s to help farmers hit by the depression that good intentions has been totally corrupted by the swamp. The farm bill has to be renewed by Congress Every five years. With nearly a trillion dollars in subsidies lobbying and special interest swarm the bill like flies to a pile of done. More than 300 organizations spend money clobbering the last farm bill in 2015 and much of that was carried out by giant aggregate businesses like monsanto. In 2017 month info made nearly 8 billion in profit recently gave their ceo, hugh grant, no, not that hugh grant, but a 64 raise to 19. 5 million a year. As the largest supplier of genetically engineered they spent a cool 36 million lobbying the federal government in the five years leading up to the 2014 farmville. They certainly knew were to spend it. One of their lobbyist was blamed lincoln, former democratic senator from arkansas and she also just happens to be a former chairwoman of the Senate Committee on agriculture. Another of their lobbyist, brian formally served as chief trade counsel to senator mack was a member of you guessed it, committee on agriculture. The members of the relative relative got their dues from these interests and in the election cycle leading up to the last farm bill then house agriculture chairman frank lucas received more than 744,000 in Campaign Contributions from the business sector. Nearly half of all this donations. In the senate, then Agriculture Committee chairman debbie stepanov received more contributions from the Crop Production industry than any other senator. She brought in more than 280,000 in the election cycle for the last farm bill. One study found that during the three months that congress debated the legislation donations from big agriculture spiked by 40 . Theres a very clear quote, take a look at the start. Members of congress who voted to pass the last storm farmville that way more money than agricole business than those who voted against it for isnt that neat . What does the Business Capital of the spending . Government subsidies, of course. The pando provides over 20 billionayear. Farmville supporters claim these subsidies protect small farms that would fail without the safety net but that isnt out in outline. Over the 20 years from 1995 to 2014 nearly 90 of farm subsidies went to the biggest 20 of farms. Those are the farms that are more secure financially and better able to adapt to changes in the market. Going to have subsidies at all shouldnt they go to small family farms who are the most vulnerable . Of course they should but those small family farms are good honest people trying to make a living. The swamp doesnt care about them. They are not swarming around washington talking to members of congress out to dinner in slinky restaurants and handing out camping checks. As a result while small farms account for 80 the only receive 40 of government payments. Another example of how the wealthy elite use will be politics to keep himself on top. Since 1933 when the farmville was first enacted the number of farms has dramatically decreased while the average farm size has significantly increased. That is because of the dirty details of the legislation in the swampy lobbying behind the creation incentivize farmers to go bigger and bigger leaving many Small Farmers struggling to stay. In the wall street journal interviewed one such farmer who grew up on his parents 160acre farm. At 29 years old he wants to keep the family farm alive but his farm is too small to produce enough crops to support his family so in addition to working his own farm he also works for other farms to generate more income. When farmland became available he looked into renting it but by the time he heard of it it was already taken by someone who owns over 30000 acres. He never stood a chance. The favoring of larger farms is not just a bad news for Small Farmers and it might even be worse news for consumers. Larger farms, especially pork and dairy farms, to develop efficiency and rather than the centers for Disease Control estimates that every year 48 Million People get sick from foodborne illness and those 128,000 are hospitalized and 3000 are killed. Experts attribute the rise of foodborne illness to what they call concentrated animal feeding operations. In other words, factory farms. The stress and unsanitary conditions of factory farms we can animals immune systems making them more susceptible to infection, overcrowding allows diseases to spread quickly and easily in the results. Here are a few examples. Salmonella outbreak at foster farms that ended in july 2014 span 17 months, 29 states and 634 illnesses including over 240 hospitalizations. In july 2015, barbara thirds recalled over 1. 7 Million Pounds of chicken. It could be contaminated with salmonella. Lets not forget the e. Coli output at aaa that led to 20 hospitalizations 52 illnesses in nine different states. The whole farmville system makes me sick. The lobbying and donations that drive political system and the billions of subsidies at fame favorite larger farms and the petri dish of socalled food place as a result and present has proposed significant cuts since we were new this year but we need more than that in subsidies. We need a revolution in our entire agricultural system. Please tell me what you think. Follow on twitter and have your say. You just had my take on the swamp and the big agriculture corporations and now lets hear from a man wants to change all that. Earlier i had the chance to speak with a higher congressman tim ryan the author of the book, the real food revolution. Take a look. Thank you for joining us here we are in Eastern Market in dc, not the typical place for Political Interview but the subjects were talking about food is not the typical political subjects and we think about politics as the healthcare and immigration in taxes why do you think food should be on the list of important political issues prestwick. Tim we have a couple of big issues so for third of our budget deficit in the United States is related to our healthcare programs, medicare, medicaid, and right now half of our country has either diabetes or prediabetes and that will sink our healthcare system. I argued with my republican friends all the time if we are serious about balancing the budget and making sure we curb spending on healthcare we have got to have a whole different system. It seems simple but it is actually the solution. Steve lets look at that more detail. Look at the Current System but what is wrong with that . Tim we subsidize crops that lead to very highly processed foods. You see it all over the Grocery Stores. The american taxpayers. Steve they are paying the subsidies. Tim yeah. Basically they go to the biggest agribusinesses in the country and you are giving money to the wealthiest people. Most family farms dont get subsidy at all. I think what we need to do is perseverate im happy to pay a farmer to grow. I would be willing to pay them more to grow healthy food and make sure that it gets into the homes and communities that he needs to get into because he will save the money on the back and her health care cost. Steve why is the food that comes out of these big agribusinesses, not the family farms, but every business, why is that unhealthy . Tim a lot of times its soy that ends up in the soy oil, corn that ends up in corn oil, 99 of corn doesnt get eaten on the stand of the road but manipulated, processed and put into a variety of other foods and same with meat and these are big crops and basically supply our food. Steve so the processing is that the heart of the problem rather than the people choosing the wrong things . Im trying to understand how and why this is a subject for the political system to correct. Tim take the diabetes issue which is primarily related to sugar and you see additive sugar is put into products that we dont even know about. We know of course what is in pop or soda depending on what part of the country you come from but its also in other drinks that you may think are good. Produce, very high rates of sugar so youre having in orange juice or apple juice but it has almost as much sugar in it and over time chocolate, milk in our schools, for giving our kids chocolate milk for breakfast and a rice crispy treat or some other sugary bar in the morning and we do that for 18 years and we also give them something at lunch that has a lot of sugar in it and allow them to buy more sugar after lunch if that is the case and then they dont eat well after school or they get something at the corner store, at the end of the day after 18 years that kid has diabetes and then they go into the Medicaid Program with the government paying for their healthcare. Steve so the change you want to see is basically to stop taxpayer money going into the big agribusinesses and then it sounds like you are saying you want to take some of that money and put it into family farms is that what youre talking about . Tim i think we have to sit down at the farmers. The farm bureau, the Farmers Union and they need to sit down and say here is where we are, here are the healthcare outcomes and we will sink our budget. Here is where we need to be and heres the food we need accessible to people in the country and how do we make this work and like i said, im happy to pay them and even happy to pay farmers more because i know i will save money on the backend and then. Steve on the backend you made a healthier population, lower healthcare cost. Tim much lower healthcare cost. Steve another concern is when we talk about healthier food and so on especially in some way talk about it is thats fine if you got the money to pay for that but im on a tight budget and i cant afford all this fancy food and whats your response to that . Tim if we increase the supply of healthier foods produce, healthy crops, then there will be more of it so naturally that will take the price down so will be more affordable we also have to do things like urban agriculture and we have a town like youngstown like i represent used to be a town of 170 and now its down to 60s we have a large swath of older industrial towns that we need to get rid of the plight and start urban agriculture in these communities and in those communities is where you have deserts and deserts are where you go two or 3 miles and not even have a Grocery Store so kids and families are shopping at the corner store for their dinner and their food which continues to perpetuate this system. Getting Grocery Stores and getting healthy food and urban agriculture and jobs in those inner cities and investment in inner cities. Steve all the things you talk about are in a very way traditional oldfashioned ways that we used to live so a lot of conservatives would support if they could see it in action but its not traditionally seen as that conservative issue. Tim theres a lot in our country that arent eating properly so lets not make this any more complicated than it is. How do we teach this in our schools and how do we put fairly healthy food into her schools and teach kids how to eat. You can see. You dont have to be perfect for you can have dessert here or there or have ice cream or eat chicken wings if you like them but you just cant do that on the of the time. Do it 20 of the time. I dont think thats a nanny state or someone coming telling you what to do but we are collectively going to suffer from a collapse of our economy because of healthcare costs and we better collectively say ill do better when i eat so i can be a little healthier. Steve a lot of people, i think, totally agree with it when it is but like that. Thank you so much. Tim thank you have any. Steve coming up, former trumpet but he can manager, david is here to give his reaction to President Trumps announcement that hell run for reelection in 2020. This is rick blomquist. His life is pretty comfortable. Then, he laid on a serta and realized his life was only just sorta comfortable. Ive been living a lie. The new Serta Icomfort hybrid mattress. Not just sorta comfortable, serta comfortable. Dawn is serving up dinner for a whole town that table was like. So big can one bottle of new dawn clean all the dishes . We did it 6,000 dishes a drop of dawn and grease is gone. Steve earlier this week President Trump announced his plan to run for reelection in 224980 days before election day. The break the previous record of 582 days held by president obama. The president also named digital roof, as a campaign manager. What do we make of this announcement prospectus asked former Deputy Trump Campaign manager and coauthor of let trump be trump, david bossi. Its great to see you. Thank you for having me. Appreciate it. Steve will talk about 2020 and a second but back to 2016 about turning this one. You know better than anyone what a powerful message that was and the selection how do you think its going so far . I think one year into this demonstration it is going very well for this president. He is in a fight every day with the swamp and when you are draining the swamp those creatures start to stick their heads out in i will be honest with you, hes in a definite with these creatures that are the washington establishment and hes not afraid to take them on in either party. That is what hes been doing this first year and i think whether it is through deregulation or through the tax cuts or building up the military he is trying to get his make America Great again agenda through in his fighting the establishment at every turn. Steve that is exactly what he was elected to do. I completely agree that. Lets look ahead to 2020 in this announcement what is the significance of the fact that they chose to make this announcement so early on. David its a tremendous smart announcement and i goes to this president is. He is very, very shrewd when it comes to these matters and he is, i believe, and i talked to a lot of people at the white house and is that this is about putting another piece on the board for 2018 and that this will be the president s reelection getting the trump army back up and running again for the 2018 midterms because he is going to explain to the American People, this president will explain that so goes the midterms will be how these presidencies goes and if Speaker Nancy Pelosi is in the house of representatives you will have impeachment as opposed to making America Great again and the articulating that we are tired of the scandal after scandal and thats all the democrats do and when we have our tax cut in our economy going well and our National Security getting stronger and better place in the world we dont want to go backwards. Steve david, do you think well see the president out on the campaign trail a lot more in the next few months leading up to november this year . David steve, absolutely. This president is tremendous on the campaign trail and being able to be out and about and talking directly to the people and bypassing the media and having these big rallies and bringing in the enthusiasm of our base back up to what it once was, that is the reason he got elected. Im excited that this announcement was made this week im excited that brad will be reading it. Hes incredibly smart innovative guy and he understands will not be able to win in 2020 like we did in 16 so he understands the new media and understands new technology and how to get it done and how to deliver those messages to the American People. Its not the same campaign over again. Steve im sure that is right but i also hope that you will be involved in some way because you really got this importance of really showing that this president is going to be different and be the voice of all the people who have been neglected for so long. Since were talking about food revolutions, heres an update on one of our very first shows. We talked about the impossible burger. Remember this . So our panel have an absolutely delicious item called the impossible burger. Why is it impossible . Because it looks like meat, tastes like meat, yes even bleeds like meat but its actually made from the brain child of silicon valleys impossible foods, and the mission is impossible. More and more people around the world are developing a taste for meat and the budget to pay for it. That isnt just sustainable. Impossible foods plan is to introduce new foods as meat as a Sustainable Way and opening up whole new Business Opportunities for our farmers. So what is the verdict, kimberly . My god, i give it a 10 and so does the russian judge.
