Background check system. Well talk about this tonight with a great panel. Plus well debate immigration and the president s infrastructure plan and with chaos in the swamp, we take it on and how the financial elite seems to get richer whatever happens to the real economy. I remember from my days from working in government, every time something bad happens, the cry goes up, we must do something, strong action, more resources. Always more resources. In particular you hear all of this from inside government. Cats meow bureaucrats want more power and money. It happens every time theres a terror attack. But you know what else we hear every time theres a terror attack . The attacker was known to the authorities. The ft. Hood attacker was known. The pulse attacker had been investigated by the fbi. The fbi had been given a specific tip about the boston bombers from the russians of all people and yet so many died. Which brings us to the horror of last week. Inevitably it revived our seemingly never ending gun debate. Well get to that. This kid exhibited every single known red flag from killing animals, to have casual weapons to disruptive behavior to saying he wanted to be a school shooter. If this isnt a person who should have gotten someones attention, i dont know who is. In is a multisystem failure. Now listen to the words about the fbi about the specific warning it received on january 5th, this year, about the murderous intentions of the parkland killer. Quote, the caller provided information about kruzs gun ownership, desire to kill can people and disturbing social media posts as well as the potential of him conducting a school shooting. And then the pathetic response from fbi special agent that he and his colleagues truly regret any additional pain this has cause. Regret . Is that the best they can do . 17 people are dead because of the fbis bunkin bungling. We need to up cyst that the government does its job with the laws and powers and resources that it has. A few more thoughts on our National Gun Debate after parkland. We hear tonight the white house is looking at measure to inprove background checks. Surely every agrees that this messed up kid should have never been allowed to buy that gun. Heres another point thats been lost. He should never have been allowed to get so messed up in the first place. I was on special report this week as the news of the shooter was coming in. I want to repeat what i said then. Lets not comfort ourses with socalled solutions, whether its gun control or a talk of mental health. This is not a medical issue. We have a social crisis in america just like in most socalled civilized societies this days. Theres a social breakdown going on for decades and at the heart of its family breakdown. More and more children being raised in broken homes in a toxic culture of violence. Healing our broken society is, in my view, the number one priority for america. And we will come back to that again and again on this show, i promise. Because that is truly the next revolution we need. Please tell me what you think. Follow us on twitter and have your say an. For now lets find out what the panel thinks. With me tonight, host of the hollywood conservative, amanda head, Fox News Contributor and nationally sin kateed radio host richard fowler. Host of kennedy on the fox business network, kennedy. And joining us from new york, syndicated columnist and coulter. And iann is here. Im going to start with you. What do you make of the fbi situation . I agree with everything youve said but there is one simple fix that doesnt give the government any more power and requires no money at all. In fact it would save lots and lots of money and thats for the president to fulfill his promises and impose an immigration moratorium. To defend the fbi to some extent, its preposterous, theyre running down the russian dossier by this not private eye Christopher Steele but theyre not following up on this lead in florida. All of that is true. Ive made fun of them on twitter for it. But in their defense, should the fbi watch list, the terrorist watch list and there are about five of them, has more than one Million People on it, only 0. 5 are americans. According to james comey last year in testimony, theres an fbi watch for isis members in all 50 states. Think of that, steve. In idaho, alaska. And isis is just one of many many possible terrorists groups. Theres al qaeda. That was the one that omar mateen claimed allegiance to. Since 911 i imagine the terrorists saying to themselves, were going to really hated by this. In america we started admitting more muslims, we ad mitt more than from great britain. Instead of admitting 2 Million Immigrants to each year, lets not admit them and well have a much smaller watch list for the fbi to be having to check up on. Steve what do you think weve got to talk about the immigration debate later on which im pleased to say since youre with us tonight and i know you feel strongly about it. Specifically on the dpli domestc crime aspect. A lot of people have said, you know, too many people are focused on in the fbi are focused on political efforts, for example, the clinton investigation, what happened in the election, the russia, all of that stuff rather than doing their core job of protecting people from crime. Kennedy, what do you think of that . Kennedy i think its so sad to see not only the fbi incompetence. Youre right when you summed it up. The fact that this tragedy was so incredibly preventable on so many levels and it was a multisystem failure. I was deeply offended by what his defense attorney said. I wasnt surprised by it. I think theyre pond excus scum. But if someone is exhibiting so many red flags, there are so many people much earlier on have to identify that kind of behavior. And maybe that means, you know, teachers and pediatricians and others, this kid might have interfaced with, has to have Better Mental Health training. I dont think thats exorbitant to expect that. But most of this rests on the fbi. When youve got something sirius and you need to get something done and you know that someone is problematic, theyve tortured animals and threatened humans, nazi symbols and buying weapons, advertising them on multiple social media platforms. Thats when you go to the fbi. The execute that there are too many tips and not enough agents is absolute malarkey. And if theres a tip that is this serious they didnt even call the Miami Field Office so they could fol lowp up in person but they have no problem with pulling nsa whistleblowers and Paul Manafort out of the shower at gunpoint and raiding their home. Steve i agree with that. Richard, on the broader gun debate. I think one of the reasons, it seems to me, that no progress is made is because people are suspicious when they hear demeanors say this is not about returninoverreturning the second amendment, this is not about taking away guns. Actually what you saw this week in the the new york times, a column was written no, we do need to get rid of the second amendment. They dont believe it when the democrats say that. This particular shooting for me is personal. I grew up 20 miles from Stoneman Douglas high school. I debated there. So as i watched the chaos take place anthe aerial views of the courtyard, i remember myself being a sophomore in high school sitting in that courtyard. Its a multisystem failure. But in the state of florida, an 18yearold can buy an ar15. Cant be liquor. Cant be a hand dwun either. You have to be 21 to a buy a handgun but 18 to buy an ar15. Health care officials cannot ask anybody if they own a gun. We have got to have a larger conversation. Its not about gun confiscation. Its not about taking away peoples second amendment. But when you look at it, you have to say to yourself, how is it possible that an 18yearold can get a military grade weapon, walk into a school. What does military grade mean . Only used by the military. Theyre obviously not only used by the military. Steve i just want to get amanda. Actually that is something that it seems that the president agrees with and thats what were hearing tonight. Hes looking at the kind of background checks that would have prevented this kid from getting that gun. We all agree it was crazy that he got a gun. Thats one of the reasons he got in office is he does seem to be reasonable when it comes to, i dont want to say shifting his views but being open to future solutions. But the fbi issue, its kind of been percolating since the hoover donovan days, hoover was at the fbi, donovan was what was it, office of strategic services. And there was a competition between them and a lack of information sharing. And i dont fe thats territorialism but theyre not sharing information with each other like we saw with the federal office for the fbi not communicating with the miami office. And at what point do you cease with the phrase, oh, the fbi is protect and serve, theyre putting their lives on the line. At what point do you stop that and think, okay, is this something thats systematic . It doesnt seem like flukes anymore. Im going to contradict that. Theres so much information sharing because of the executive order that president obama signed. Multiple intelligence agencies can share information with each other and they can also do back door searches steve im sorry. Were out of time. I know its a nightmare because theres so much to say. But we really will. Theres something about the bureaucracies. That gets in the way of things that we look to. But the background checks point which could be a point of agreement. There seems to be. Not from here. Steve well, there you are. Not from anns point of view but well see where that goes. Coming up, the author of a new book. But next, the countdown continue to the march 5 daca deadlined and the panel and i weigh in on immigration. Thats after the break. You owned your car for four years. You named it brad. Kids safelite repair, safelite replace steve debate over Immigration Reform and the fate of the dreamers remains at a stand still. But the white houses march 5 deadline is quickly approaching. Will President Trump find a way to get democrats on board. Lets get into that. And the first question, ann, i want to address to you is do you want the president to find a way to get the democrats on board . Its hard to remember but it was bill clinton who was pushing the idea of Immigration Reform with the famous Barbara Jordan administration. She was looking at low wage americans, particularly africanamericans the push in the 90s was heavily from the democrats because it hurt the constituents that they pretend to care about. Theyre beyond pretending now now the democrats are wall street and welfare recipients. At least they dont have to pretend to care about people in indiana anymore which is such a relief. But, i mean, how much the debate has moved. You can see these on youtube, Dianne Feinstein talking ug about the insanity of anchor babies and how dumping the immigrants on the country are hurting us. Now the democrats decided nope, screw it, theyre voting for us, just bring them on in. No i dont want trump to find an agreement on something that he campaigned on at every Campaign Stop that he would build a wall. He didnt campaign on keeping the carried loophole. He didnt campaign on tax cuts. Where are his promises . Hes not understan invincible bf the apprentice, his invincible because of his issues. Steve richard, theres a really, really when i look at this debate, the change in the democrat position is just really striking. It used to be the case that they were very concerned about the impact of lowwage immigration on working people and their incomes. Bernie sanders said it in the 2016 campaign. But that seems to be completely gone. Two thing. One, i think ann is in the minority when it comes to where the country is on the dreamers. And the dreamers arent lowscale workers. You have to be working in the country, two you have to be in the dlej or three in the military. Steve lets just talk the reason i make that point is it seems to be the thing hold up the agreement is the push on one side to reduce the level of overall immigration. Democrats say no way. No, i think because its a red herring. What the president has tried to say is stop chain migration and the diversity lottery. It only gives out visas to 50,000 people. You have to go through an extensive twoyear process to get here. Heres where the deal is. President trump has been clear, he ran on this wall, he wants the wall. Democrats said we will vote for the wall. Well give you the wall if the president wants the wall, we want to protect the dreamers. Donald trump said he will give dreemedz a path way to citizenship. If you put a bill on the floor to fund the wall, it could pass right away. The reason it wont pass is because they put other stuff in there. Steve ill go straight to amanda on that. Could you live with this, the narrative to protect the dreamers for the wall . No, not really. I think what President Trump laid out in his state of the Union Address was really reasonable. But the notion of the democrats wanting to find a solution to the problem seems a little disingenuous. I say this all of the time, but i swear if they should be assured that these people would mail in their absentee ballots, they would ship them out in a minute. Thats abdidder. Steve absurd. Steve i dont know hoe you feel. Kennedy this is one of the core issues and ann wrote an entire book about the president because he had a very clear message. But when youre granting 2 Million People amnesty and this isnt legal protected status. This is citizenship. That is vastly different. You become an american. And you know, richard is right in that a majority of americans, many different polls have said that they agree that dreemedz ds shouldnt be deported. Thats interesting. I think that both parties are completely paralyzed by fear. The democrats voted for the 2006 Border Security act what was essentially a wall. And ann is right that there was a lot of rhetoric if for a long time from the left about limiting immigration. And so theyve done such a die metric shift on this issue that closer we get to the midterm, they dont know what to do, republicans dont know what to do. There are splits in both parties that are absolutely paralyzing them. If you say 1. 8 million get citizenship for the wall, the democrats are foolish not to take that. Imminent do main i domain is gog up that wall, especially in texas with a majority of the land is privatet privately owne. Steve would you rather nothing happen including on the wall with something you dont want to see happen with the citizenship Going Forward . A we lose either way. The idea that it can be limited to 1. 8 Million People, trying to limit it to people with a ged is preposterous. How do you write such a law. Thats not how its written. You can be signed up for an english language class and youre a dreamer. Thats not true. Weve seen how the courts interpret this stuff, particularly an amnesty tbranted in 1986, 28 years later the ninth circuit was granting class action amnesties to tens of thousands, i think hundreds of thousands of illegals whose argument was its unfair that i wasnt here for the last amnesty. You have to grant me amnesty. Any amnesty goes to the courts and it becomes a 100 amnesty not only for any illegal not here but also the ones who havent arrived yet. Steve richard, weve got to wrap up. It would be so fun to do this again. Those are not facts. That is the facts. No theyre not. Steve theyre going to keep going. Coming up later, ive always said the stock market is a casino. Tonight in swamp watch well expose how its a swampy casino. Our next guest will say why weve never been able to get rid of political krumtion. Corruption. Weve got a plan to fix it coming up after the break. Righttt. Safe driving bonus checks. Only from allstate. Switching to allstate is worth it. My doctor recommended i switch to miralax. On, stimulant laxatives make your body go by forcefully stimulating the nerves in your colon. Miralax is different. It works with the water in your body to hydrate and soften. Unblocking your system naturally. Miralax. When this bell rings. It starts a chain reaction. Thats heard throughout the connected business world. At t Network Security helps protect business, from the largest Financial Markets to the smallest transactions, by sensing cyberattacks in near real time and automatically deploying countermeasures. Keeping the world of business connected and protected. Thats the power of and. Steve welcome back to the next revolution. Im excited about our next guest. The author of a new book, how we tried to ban corruption, failed and what we can do about it. Frank buckley. You have one of the su subtitles that basically tells the whole story. But im going to ask you two questions first of all, why and how did we fail to ban corruption. Take that one first. Right. Well its a fascinating story because if you think about what the framers did, the one thing they wanted to do is to insure that we wouldnt be corrupt. They gave a constitution which like a boomerang reared back and hit them on the head and we ended up with a form of government that welcomes corruption. And what we have behind me is the Largest Network of influence in the world at any time. We compare it to the first world countries are mediocre and therefore we would like to do something about it. Theres one other steve i was interested. Theres one other thing i should notice, and that is that politics have become so toxic right now that for many people the corruption really doesnt matter. I mean the epitome of me for corruption was Hillary Clinton and yet she garnered more votes than donald trump from people who basically, i guess steve dont tell the president that. He wont be very happy with you. I think you were just about to get into i think a lot of ow viewers would agree with you, particularly after watching the various episodes of scandalous that have preceded the show over the last couple of weeks. I think you were about to tell us, give us a bit more optimism about what we can do to fix it. I dont want to be too optimistic. The title of my book the republic of virtue is ironic. You got to live with a certain amount of it. If you want a pe perfect republn of virtue, you got to cut off a few heads. We dont want to go there. Weve given ourselves for corruption by crazy anticorruption laws. Right . I think what we should be doing is focusing steve give us an example of that. How have the anticorruption laws made corruption worse . The anticorruption laws, the election laws are a net that the big fish get caught and the small fish swim through. I created a website academic supporting trump. If you go over 1,000 you have to reregister as a Political Action committee and theres a brochure on what you yo so do with all of the criminal penalties. The message is politics is so pure that we cant let ordinary people do it. In other words you dont want to do it without a lawyer at your side. And people who have done it without a lawyer at their side find they get tossed into jail because we have partisan prosecutors here. Steve i think you had something that interested me, a specific proposal around lobbying. Tell us about this. There have been some legal changeses with respect to lobbying but there are more things we can do. While lobbyists cant give money directly into the pockets of a congressman, they can contribute to political campaigns, they can organize meet and greets, do stuff like that. Look, lobbyists are great people who provide very useful information for some very illinformeinformed congressmenn top of that they dont need the extra influence you get from the major donors. This theres one other thing and thats the resolving door between congress and k street. Because right now steve we covered that the whole time, frank. What can you do to stop it . What you can do is, for one thing you can do is shut the resolving door. Havhalf of the excongressmen get jobs as lobbyists. If youre a congressman and you figure you may not be around too long and you get a call from a lobbyist where you expect to work and they ask you something, the temptation is yes, sir. Whats happening now is congress is a farm team for k street where you leave congress, you clean up and make a lot more money on k street. Steve thats one of the things richard, you are nodding vigorously. I agree with him. My question is how does citizens united, the corporations can give freely with no campaign limits. How does that affect your ideal of getting us to where weve got a Virtuous Society . I lose no sleep over the scandal of money and politics, the scandal of republican money in politics. It doesnt worry me at all. I just blow through Campaign Contribution limits all together. Id allow people to make anonymous donation to the parties. I dont have a problem with that. What i would like to do is concentrate on the real influence peddlers, the lobbying industry. Isnt there a clear connection between the money going to the campaign and their ability to lobby. If there were, Hillary Clinton would be president. Its beyond that, kennedy. But it goes to what hes saying. What hes saying is these corporations, these lobbyists are influencing members of congress if we could stop their ability to give money to members of congress, then their influence kennedy youre going to stop. On all sides of the aisle. Steve i agree with that. Last word to you. Weve got to go in a second. Go, frank. Contribution limits are over. You can contribute a heck of a lot of money directly to a candidate, about 350,000 a year and then youve got the superpacs, fine, let them do their thing. You know something . Hillary outspent trump by three to two and in the recent alabama election, the republican candidate was outspent 10 to 1. Okay. Thats fine. I dont have a problem with that. Steve thank you so much. Im sorry we are out of time. I think everyone should read the book and get detail, specific proposals in there. And this is something we cover all of the time on the show. You will enjoy, all of the things that you talk about. Later on we break down President Trumps new plan to fix american infrastructure. But next, who knew so many wall street ti tycoons, swamp watch. Cant miss swamp watch. Woman where are we taking him . I have no clue. Were just tv doctors. If this was a real emergency, id be freaking out. We are the tv doctors of america. The very definition of this reckless financial wheeling dealing is the hedge fund, an Investment Vehicle specializing in complex transactions. The worlds Biggest Hedge Fund is bridgewater. And in the middle of the stock market turmoil of recent weeks, its chief Investment Officer announced with relish, we dont think this shakeout will be over in a matter of days. Well have a much bigger shakeout coming. Thats all well for him to say. He wont suffer in a shakeout. Whatever happens in the real world, the financial elites just get richer and that is not an accident. The Financial Sector is by far the biggest source of donation to the politicians, that people move in and out of government jobs and their friends in high places make sure they avoid punishment for their crimes, crimes that crush the lives of working americans wall street is tonights swamp watch. The currency of the swamp is power and influence. By this measure wall street is welwealthier than most americans realize. One of the most important ways they get what they want from washington is the socalled revolving door. We just talked about it. Jay clayton, chairman of the securities and Exchange Commission was priestly previoa lawyer who helped protect those being screwed by regulators. Now hes regulating the same banks he used to defend against regulation. Hes not the first to maim the move. Keith worked at a former launch representing the banks and now hes return to the same firm. Representative jim hinds, a democrat from. Kat th, 12year veteran of goldman sachs. Hinds now serves on the powerful Financial Services committee. Regulating wall street. Bridgewater, the hedge fund whose chief Investment Officer was so excited about a shakeout was founded by a billionaire, an active bunked her of Campaign Cash for politicians. He worked connections with friends to raise more funds for a campaign than theyre allowed to give individually. In 2008 he had half a Million Dollars for john mccain. In the last 30 years hedge funds have dramatically increased their spending on political donations. In 1990 they spent 190,000 in 2016 they spent over 230 million. And who are the lucky legislators whlegislators who pe millions . Millions . Surprise. Surprise. Onfour of them were on the Financial Services committee. But at least some senators are taking a stand against this kind of corruption. New jerseys cory booker recently tweeted, i heard from constituents today asking about Corporate Tax contributions. Im joining several of my colleagues no longer accepting this contributions. Our Campaign Finance system is broken. I stop big money for their work. Its time to pass Campaign Finance reform. Uhhuh. Heres another way to put it. If youre cory booker, the time to pass Campaign Finance reform is after youve taken 2 million from wall street. In 2013 and 14, more than any other congressional candidate in that period. What a shameless hypocrite cory booker is. Its not just donations. Hedge funds have spent 80 million on lobbying since 2007. Heres the swampy part of of the 122 lobbies, 83 had previously held positions in the federal government. So what does wall street get in return for this corruption . Tax breaks for a start. The socalled interest loophole allows the financial elite to pay a lower tax rate on their income than working americans. And the kre cent tax reform bill barely touched this indefensive giveaway to the super rich. Then theres the regulatory rollbacks. Right now the treasury officials are working to make it easier for the wall street firms to be tagged too big to fail. Im all for less regulation but the right response to the problem of banks being too big to fail is to make them smaller with more competition in the marketplace. But thats the last thing they want. So theyve bought and paid for our government to block it. Theyve bought and paid for their expert to shape policy too. In july 2014 James Glassman appeared in congress to advise on latin american colonies. He criticized puerto rico on trying to default their debt. He was working on behalf of a pr lobbying firm called dci group. One of his clients was in a lawsuit over investments in puerto rico. Wellplaced wall street money pushes the government towards policies that will make Hedge Fund Billionaires even richer. Another one was paul singer, the billionaire here of elliott management. He took argentina to court and then hired them to run a tenyear campaign to influence all three branches of government on its argentina. If his name sounds familiar, theres a good reason why. He was one of the original people behind the trumprussia dossier. You get to shape elections, decide government policy, pick your own regulators, choose your own tax rate and when your reckless gambling costs americans their financial security, who cares. You just keep getting richer. Well, id love to know what you think of that. Tweet me coming up this wikileaks, President Trump unveiled his plan to fix u. S. Infrastructure but will it actually work . Thats next. Dont go away. Steve all right. Its hard to remember now but just a few days ago the white house launched its infrastructure plan. Heres why infrastructure is so important and a vital part of populism. Its not just about convenience, roads and airports that work properly, faster internet access. Its a big part of the most economic story of the last few decades. Wage stagnation for the average american. Better infrastructure helps workers be more productive meaning employers can afford to pay them more. Thats why improving our infrastructure is one of the most important parts. But the plan this week pathetic. Classic washington swamp. They say its a 1. 5 trillion plan but with can only afford 200 billion of government funding. But when its the swamp that stands to benefit, its funded in full by the government. Dick cheney pushed through trillions of dollars for the iraq war and where did much of it end up . With hall pi burton which he used to run. Its a joke. When its about enrich, their cronies, theres no problem turning on the tap pu be but when doing it for the working americans, the money isnt there. Im steamed up about this, amanda. What did you make of the plan . Yeah, roads, bridges, except its california. Who knows if well see it manifested. In as conservatives we believed in limited government. When you have a large scale infrastructure plan, its typically a one to one ratio with the federal government matching 100 of the states investment. This is fourtoone with 100 burden on the states, 25 matched by the federal government. But here in california, i guess ive just lost hope of ever seeing anything improved here. Be were so broke. But our state ag is blowing money suing the president 23 times. We just had a wreck in california last week that tore up the freeway. Ill probably be in gran fi diapers by the time they fix it. Steve it shows their priorities. Ann, i want to get your take on this. Because all of the things that you and i have talked about open we agree about on the wall street, you know, wall streets agenda, this is just another example of it. I agree with absolutely everything you said and also on the last segment. I just sent you a propoils through the internet. Could not agree more. Yeah, i mean, one thing they could give up that would provide a lot more money for infrastructure is the transgender training in the military. And also how about all of their glamorous pensions. You know, Anthony Weiner is still collecting a pension. And on your point about how important this is for wage stagnation, yeah, i mean, if all they were doing is hiring americans to build holes and then bill the hole and build another hole. It would be fantastic. But the country is falling apart. One fantastic Infrastructure Project is building a wall. One other point about this, i mean, donald trump said, not only all of the stuff about the infrastructure but he said to the africanamerican community, what do you have to lose. Take a chance on me. A big issue on my favorite network, msnbc, is the ban the box. And that is not allowing employers to ask potential employees if they have a felony record. Well thats actually kind of important for some jobs. You know whats not important . Its not important on a construction site. This would be a so great for africanamericans and all kinds of construction workers. You know, the average wage for a construction worker in california is now lower than it was 20 years ago. Its just not americans doing the jobs anymore, itll all his hispanics doing the jobs in california. Steve thank you, app. Ann. One of the reasons that we connect on this is because this is different trump was different from the typical conservative. And thats what we always try to do on the show is set out what the populist agenda is. This infrastructure, we had hopes it would be different but its turning out. Because theyre not spending enough money . Steve on the right thing. On pensions, for example, they never tackle that. Thats the problem. Places where theres a pension obligation unfunded, places like illinois and new jersey and california are never going to see any new bridges and roads where they decembe desperately d them. And its going to be an impossible sale to raise taxes on people in california. I mean, theres in way theyre going to. Steve i agree. The president is bring in the private sector. When youre talking about construction and bidding and also shortening the permit times by about 80 steve i agree with all of that. Thats good. If thethat will make a differen. I think we can shorten the permitting time. But when it comes to their priorities for the swamp, they fund them completely. If we fix our roads and infrastructure, we do one thing simply. Both republicans and democrats agree we went win. Were wasting billions of dollars. Theyre building roads, bridges and hospitals and we could build them right here in america and hire american to work in them and the fact that we havent done it is sad. Trumps plan is weak soft. 200 billion is not enough to fix the infrastructure you want to make it an aplus, you need more than 200 billion steve you may not agree. Let us know. I think thats whats interesting. Are you going to shape entitlements in a way steve yes. But the point is. Afghanistan steve hang on. Its also extended. Steve when they want the money for their stuff they get it. But when its working money, its physical rep tuesday. Thats the end of that. We will be right back with more of the next revolution.
