And the gross overreaction to individual acts of Police Brutality has spawned an effort to of course defund and dismantle the police. Now democrats are struggling to try to differentiate themselves from the now core of the Democrat Party and what they really believe on this. Rudy giuliani exposes it all. Now, maybe youve noticed what i noticed, when they know the cameras are rolling, most democrats will go to Great Lengths to say how much they care about black people. No demands that leadership be improved, that cases be solved that murder charges be filed, no visits to family members usually, and why . What you just saw from Lori Lightfoot is a poor attempt at damage control because yesterday everyone in chicago and even today was talking about audio obtained by a local news station and it was from a may 31st Conference Call between lightfoot and the city alderman all of whom, by the way it on our democrats. Alderman were literally crying and distraught over the horrendous destruction in their neighborhoods that they represent. My word is [bleep], cop cars burning, they put the bridges up, they are shooting at the police, it wasnt a protest, it wasnt a it wasnt anything like that, Business Owners are sitting there with [bleep] shotguns because they are scared somebodys going to come you know, what are we going to have left in our communities . Nothing. Nothing. You want to know something, i worked really hard over the last seven years and now i feel like i am 5 feet back, five steps back. Im ground zero, thats how i feel about it. My Major Business district is just shattered. You lose the two biggest icons why would walmart or cvs come back to our community . Laura there are reports today that walmart may indeed not reopen stores in the riotstricken areas of chicago. Can you really blame them . Frankly, any other businesses wanting to cut their losses and head for the exits at this point. Who would want to risk real money in cities run by mayors who basically think, again, when the cameras or microphones arent on that looters and criminals should be given room to express themselves. Expect other blue cities to see the same exodus. In minneapolis, nearly 500 businesses were damaged or destroyed during the mostlypeaceful protest. Rioters burned down a major manufacturing plant that stood in the city for 30 plus years. Its going to be rebuilt, just not in minneapolis. But like lightfoot in chicago jacob pajama boy frey doesnt seem to care that businesses vacate his city. They are blase when challenged about protecting their own citizens. I know that you have specific concerns and you and i have discussed it briefly and ive been on calls all day asking people to step up and use their voices in their network and distinguish between righteous First Amendment protest and what we are seeing all over our city which is criminal conduct. Laura use their voices . Thats going to bring back jobs and confidence and solve the crime problem. What is she even talking about . But it gets worse, at one point Alderman Raymond lopez is going to join us in just a moment, he had enough and directly confronted mayor lightfoot and her cliche and focused on both the violence and her role in stoking it. Half our neighborhoods are already obliterated, its too late. We have to come up with a better plan because my fear is once they are done looting and rioting and whatever is going to happen tonight, god help us, what happens when they start going after residents . But i was thinking, that conversation kind of sums it all up, if democrats get in control really in november, will all be told just how dumb we are and to stop preening when we point out how certain types of leadership is just sending us off the rails. You and i are probably are not on the same page politically, but i was shocked to hear how mayor lightfoot spoke to you. You are an elected official and you were expressing concern about your ward, she said that you were preening. Your response . Unfortunately thats not the first time that the mayor and i have engaged in this kind of discussion and you know, she and i both come up its really unfortunate for the people that we both represented to not be able to Work Together especially during one of the most horrific times in our citys history when quite literally people were, as you said, creating organized chaos in our neighborhood and i was basically pleading for help pleading for her to take serious the concerns that weve seen in the neighborhood and it was not only falling on deaf ears, it was outright dismissed. Laura alderman, i want to point to you id walk through some of the shocking violence chicago has seen since George Floyds death on may 25th theyre been at least 50 murderers and more than 250 shootings and of course there was the death count on may 31, the Bloodiest Day in 60 years. Alderman, what is going on in chicago . Right now we have a lot of people with a lot of pent up energy and emotion and anger and in many cases the anger is 100 accurate, particularly following the horrific events that led to George Floyds murder, but you have to realize that chicago has been on lockdown because of covid, the lack of police accountability, not emotional accountability but true police accountability, has led to almost a state of lawlessness and weve seen our attempts to ask for more resources, more police, more security in our neighborhoods again being rebuffed, a number of alderman and i have stepped up and asked for the National Guard to come and assist our Police Officers in maintaining the safety and security of our city so they can provide a presence so the police can do their job and that was actually ignored again and we need to remind ourselves that this is not who we are, we are better than this and the only way we can get past this is if we check our egos and our political point making and actually focus on the task at hand, which is to help all of our neighborhoods. Laura Lori Lightfoot said it would be a disaster if the National Guard were to be brought in. In minneapolis they didnt have that experience, they got things under control pretty quickly. I mean, its a disaster when i see the pictures of those streets that i got to know fairly well. We obviously have a history with the National Guard, the shoot to kill order and things of that nature, the police during the race riots back then so we are very aware of the optics but this is not the same and many other communities that were impacted particularly on the south and west side, home to many africanamericans who are also wanting their neighborhoods to be safe and secure and unfortunately the only place that we saw the deployment of the National Guard was in the Downtown District of the city of chicago, for two days they were downtown guarding the perimeter while we saw the organized attack on our communities, our pharmacies, our Grocery Stores and not able to get the resources from the Police Department because they were busy playing whack a mole trying to chase looters who came to our city to cause havoc. Laura i have to ask this question bluntly, what would taking a third of the Police Budget as is being recommended by many or dismantling them altogether, i didnt get that sense from the people in southwest chicago, i didnt get the sense that thats what they wanted. What would that do to businesses and their confidence really quickly . I will just say this really quickly, its easy to call for Defunding Police when you live in a safe neighborhood. Many neighborhoods in the city of chicago get along with their police and if you were to leave them to the wolves youd be putting them already into a greater disadvantage than they are now. One of the things we saw out of minneapolis that i think was right was to reevaluate where your 911 calls are coming from and what theyre coming for and fund accordingly. Thats part of the movement i can support, if youre going to dismantle the Police Department you are putting lives even more in danger. Laura i want to have you back and i want to keep this conversation going, i think both parties can Work Together for common sense solutions. All this other stuff has just got to be pushed to the wayside people are dying, we want everyone to live by the laws, we want everyone to be accountable across the board but you got to keep businesses in all the difficult neighborhoods in chicago, the businesses have got to have confidence to stay. Well, you begin to see a kind of narrative here that has become detached from george floyd. This notion of defunding the police kind of makes no sense because if that was an unjust case produced by bad cops, youd think that the obvious solution is good cops, it would not be no cops. I dont think that these people mean no cops when they say defund the police. What they really mean is they want to bring the Police Department to its knees, they want the Police Ultimately to undergo a kind of transformation to become, if you will, a politically correct police force that allows the left to get away with lawlessness when it wants to and maybe even police that is mobilized against the political opponents of the left, so i think they want to remake the police, not really get rid of them, turn the police into instruments of their ideal i geological agenda. A meek protestation, thats not where i am, reform, there needs to be structural reform but no, thats not why would anyone take him seriously, he cant even do a long form interview thats not heavily edited and reformatted so it sounds somewhat coherent. Biden has now become ultimately the front man for an agenda that he neither controls im not even sure if hes aware what that agenda is he is the pied piper of a movement thats pushing him forward, hes not leading anyone. Ironically behind this whole critique, this larger critique of america as a racist society, structural racism, institutional racism and so on, the one thing that never gets mentioned as the culpability of the Democratic Party. Actually creating this sort of racist history, this was in fact the party of slavery, the plantation, the party that precipitated the civil war established a segregation in every southern state, created and later revived the klan, so its rather remarkable that they are showing up pretending to be firefighters, taking no responsibility for what their party did and trying to pin the blame on republicans and americans and everybody except themselves. Laura their policies have resulted in chaos on the streets, their policies havent worked. A great interview with Shelby Steele is brilliant, were not talking about the real heart of the problem, racism is always going to be a problem. The heart of the problem is within each of us to solve, strong families, no ones having that conversation. But its easy to hold up the shiny object here to avoid thinking, lightfoot has been a nightmare, shes been a complete disaster for chicago. The simple fact is they know that if there was economic progress in these innercity neighborhoods people would dust themselves off and no longer be dependent on the Democratic Party so thats the dirty little secret. [inaudible] laura that was body cam footage that got two former atlanta Police Officers fired last week. You can see in the video, they used their tasers to subdue two College Students during last weeks protest. Now they are suing atlantas mayor and police chief for their jobs back. The former officers argue that the use of force in that case was lawful and that their dismissal violated their due process rights. Joining me now is their attorney. Lance, that video footage looks pretty bad for the cops, i guess. So what are we missing, context . Whats happened there . Sure, the video has been edited multiple times and what has been edited out is the probable cause for the arrest the officers told the driver to move his vehicle and he refused. The officers told the driver to move his vehicle again and he refused. Then they told him to open the door, he refused. They open the door and he drives away violently almost pulling one of the officers off their feet. Then when he got caught in traffic, they caught up on whats happening as people are showing the video down and only showing the officers rushing up to the vehicle after he almost pulled the officer off of his feet. So they are saying there was no probable cause and creating this narrative that the officers just surrounded this car in traffic and started breaking out the windows, and that is not true. Laura is someone who has also been subjected to nefarious the edited videos i complete the get that, i get it but the Fulton County d. A. Has now also filed criminal charges against your clients. This is as the city is getting just trashed, by the way, and four other officers involved. Heres what he said. We reviewed seven different body cam, body worn cameras and also looked at one media clip we reviewed the physical evidence, the car, the bodily injuries to the victims. We also reviewed his statements made criminal statements made by the Police Officers. Laura lance, sounds like hes claiming that they have all this evidence, but what are the police supposed to do in this situation . If the facts are as you describe them, there are always two sides but what are police supposed to do, say pretty please with sugar on top continue to cause trouble and not move your car which is itself a Public Safety threat this shows you in my mind how hard it is for police to do their jobs. Hard it is for police to do the first thing we do, Novel Concept but when you believe officers are involved in something nefarious or improper is you interview them and do an investigation, nobody ever interviewed my clients who have a total of close to 40 years of Law Enforcement experience, one of them was a Task Force Agent with the fbi for ten years, one of them was a Task Force Agent with the gbi and these officers just went through deescalation training. Maybe after all this training they know what theyre doing and maybe you should ask them why. Because we judge Law Enforcement officers actions in the state of georgia and the United States Supreme Court by what they saw in front of them at the time not with hindsight. Laura we know that the mayor, she has political ambitions, shes been mentioned as a possible vp for biden, does that come into play here . Im sure it comes into play and im sure she was very public and coming out and saying that we, meaning she and the police chief determine tilt fire my client but we also see this criminal charges being brought. They cannot bring these charges to a jury without going to a grand jury first in georgia so the bottom line is instead of waiting for a grand jury, a week before the primary election that the d. A. Is going through, he elected to charge six people there is no problem, they are not flight risks, they know everything about them, they know their background, there was no reason to do this other than political jockeying and thats exactly what the police chief called it after the officers were charged. Weve all do not call the police because there is violence and the police dont come there unless they call them, how many of these things that weve seen have been results from a 911 call from some citizen talking about there being violently attacked or witnessing of Violent Attacks of the police come, of course theres going to be violence there, it was there before they got there so we need to rethink this whole thing this is observed, its going to create pandemonium and i dont think the American People like this idea, we are getting a lot of media push but it doesnt reflect how most citizens in our country feel about it. The union says if youre going to trim Police Budgets, maybe to private protection for politicians should be cut back. From may 31st to june 6th homicides in l. A.
