Its so rare in new zealand that before this attack happened several minutes, apparently another man said that a great white shark swam right by him and he went to the lifeguards and reported it but apparently nobody believed him. There has not been a confirmed great white attack in new zealand since 1976. Minutes before todays attack, hundreds of students were also swimming in that very same area. Now, we should note this is has not been confirmed to be a great white shark, but a marine biologist says that 14 feet it cant be anything else. Listen. Most likely to be a white shark in this instance in reality the only sharks around new zealand that ever really take on as big as a person would be a great white. The justices considering a challenge to part of the 1965 Voting Rights act. Its the section that gives the Justice Department the power to block changes to election laws in certain states. Supporters say the states you see here have a history of discrimination. And the feds need to protect Voting Rights there. But opponents say a lot has changed since 65 and they claim Congress Ignored those changes when it renewed the law a few years ago. Its the top story at the bottom of the hour. Shannon bream is live on it at the court. Shannon . Well, shepard, supporters of the Voting Rights act say congress got it right when it renewed key provisions of the act in 2006. They say there is still plenty of evidence there is discrimination alive and well when this comes to minority voters and that this law is the only thing that can remedy that. And what we know is that this remedy of section 5, which is designed to block not just the discrimination you see today but the discrimination that history teaches is coming tomorrow. Section 5 is the answer to that type of discrimination today the arguments were heated. Justices talking over each other and addresses the arguments to their colleagues on the bench rather to the attorneys actually there to argue their cases. At one point Justice Anthony scalia raised eyebrows when he per pettation of racial entitlement. When whenever a Society Racial entitlements difficult to get out of them through the normal political pros cease cease. That is why Shelby County attorney argued its time the courts to step in to see overturning what the congress has done in this respect. He says that there is plenty of evidence that things have improved when it comes to things like voter discrimination in places like Shelby County. He says yet, the states are still forced to spend a lot of time and money complying with the voters rights act. There is is a very high cost to pay for the remedy and we should not apply it unless we can show that either the old disease is not cured, which nobody claims or the new disease can be cured by this specific remedy.
