we have that on factor tonight. obama is in trouble because he can't support a group that stabs police officers and burns down oakland, california. but they have not repudiated the group. >> andrea: what do you suggest that the president say. a lot of the protesters are his base. if he condemns them he has backlash. he needs to galvanize the base and needs them to show up in base. he probably believes in what they're doing because he supports it. if he doesn't and stays silent he risks alienating conservative or the moderate democrats or independents. what should he do? as >> dana: welcome back to "the five." i guess it's fair to say corey booker the mayor of newark, new jersey, didn't plan to start the week off the way it has. he was on sunday show "meet the press" where he had a truthful moment i think. spoken from the heart about attacks on both jr. maya wright and on private -- jeremiah wright and private equity that we should focus on problems at hand. four hours later, the youtube video pops up, walking that back. a day later on msnbc, mayor booker had this to say. >> my outrage and frustration is the cynical campaign, manipulating of the truth. here they are plucking sound bites out of that interview to manipulate them in a sin can manner and use them for their own purposes. that slogan he and my staff fit to be tied. reality is the obama team in the white house and the political team has been good to me for many, many years. they never pressured me to do anything. they have done nothing but encourage me. in this case in particular, i talked to the campaign officials but they didn't force me to do anything. >> dana: i'm sure not. i wonder if he was as upset about the obama campaign editing his four-minute video to a 35-second clip that helped fuel the fire. one thing he said is used by the g.o.p. -- to me it's like theteams are using him. >> greg: it sounds like his position is devolving. can i make a point before i talk about this. during the break because i had a bad stomach, i left. it ran in o'reilly. o'reilly did a phoneer from the building. that's why i love the man. it seems like truth is like food poisoning to politicians. we actually had to walk back the truth. next are you going to have to apologize for things you didn't say but should have said? >> eric: if it is, president obama is raping the american taxpayer and not giving us dinner or glass of wine or cocktail. he pushed back on clyburn's comments. but cory booker needs "a," private equity; "b," also the obama administration. he was on the fast track in the democratic party. he has to figure out where it's going. >> dana: i think that booker has strong future in politics but does anybody think the talking point on bain could make it through interview with skeptical questioner? is he in trouble? >> juan: not with people on wall street. and i don't think he's in that much trouble with the democratic party. he is a popular guy. he will do fine. you know he was wrong. this is legitimate and real argument to be had about romney's past. he says that's why he could be president. but also arguen't about the stewardship of the economy. what is wrong with that? for example, if my daughter said i'm getting involved with a man with 20 kids, not 30, but 20, wouldn't you flip out as a dad? >> dana: that is the point. there is a complete breakdown. and no one is willing to talk about it or make an example of hem and say no, you are not getting any taxpayer money. the problem is then we have the children who need help and care and as a society, that's what we do. we help and care for them. the thing that kills me is he said i had four kids in the same year, twice! i didn't intend to have this many. i just happened. it didn't just happen. women have a responsibility as well. >> eric: so clearly there are personal responsibilities violated. do you make good on the child support or do you say -- yeah, this is harsh -- we make good on the child support but you have to have a vasectomy. stop impregnating women. >> i don't think you can do that. >> eric: why not? as you heard before the last break. now last night, letterman came out with a fake ad mocking what a president romney administration would be like. >> he is showing you an telling you exactly what would happen the day after he was elected. the day after. day one. >> what would a romney presidency be like? day one, president romney immediately approved the keystone pipeline and issues tax cut and reform an issues order to replace obamacare. day two, romney is reminded by his wife app he lost to president obama by a landslide. >> andrea: highly partisan. eric, is this a smart strategy? we saw oprah, another big celebrity came out and endorsed the president. full-throated endorsement. she is popular but saw ratings dip a little. smart when half the country is leaning right? >> eric: i don't know that the obama campaign had anything to do with that. letterman playing off the front. we don't see president obama day one of the second term jokes and comedy. it's just another example of, you know, main stream media comedy. everyone leans left and leans left hard. >> andrea: could it's late viewers? >> dana: comedians get more of a pass than oprah winfrey. and also, she made her decision to support president obama it was seen by some people, why wouldn't you support the first woman president, because that would have been hillary clinton. if you read commentary a lot of that was about. comedians get a pass. look at bill maher. every day they say he is a comedian. >> andrea: greg, you are a funny guy. very funny. looking back at the jokes that letterman made when there was another rich guy running john kerry, there weren't any real jokes. some jokes about the service but not the yacht called scaramoush. >> greg: letterman has become a stupid human trick. having him making fun of romney being rich is letterman making fun of bill clinton being a sleazeback. hypocrisy. >> eric: he is not funny anymore, is he? because a year ago today a tornado tore through joplin, you know 161 people died. tornado had 200-mile-per-hour winds. cut a 13-mile long quarter of a mile swath through the town. seven of the students died. the high school was destroyed. yesterday speaking to those young people he said typically commencement speaker's job to inspire. he said those young people inspire him. they inspire likes of angelina jolie, brad pitt to give money and people from all over america understood what happened in joplin. god bless them. >> dana: it wasn't just angelina jolie and brad pitt. a lot of people that don't make gazillions of dollars that decided to pitch in and help them. people of missouri time and again every year they deal with one of those natural disasterrers and they come back stronger. impressive.
