Well, i think first of all, dana, you need to separate apple from twitter, and to the sense that apple is not a social media platform. It has a store, and it has rules of participation for products that apps that want to be in that store, and one of them is that they are content moderation, and they felt that parlor was not living up to it. And they took them out of the store, although people that had already downloaded parlor could continue to use it if it was not for amazon and what they had done. So i think the point is that they are not a social media platform, but what they are concerned about and i think that that is probably something that you see a lot of on the social the Big Tech Companies are concerned about is that the degree to which things are happening on their platforms are being used to sell the kind of violence that we saw last week in the Nations Capital. When you see people talking about qanon, and there were people that were a minute away it turns out from the Washington Post from getting their hands on mike pence and being able to arrest him and or to execute him. And some of the people were facing that on qanons allegations that mike pence was a child. So you know, you can understand where big tech would be concerned about that. Dana where do you think, im sure that you got into it with him and we will watch the full interview to get that sense, but do you believe that the Silicon Valley companies recognize that there is new leadership in washington, in some ways there is bipartisan agreement going after these companies, but for different reasons. Yeah, tim cook again, because apple is a different kind of company than twitter or facebook, it provides products, it does not offer a social media platform. He quite frankly did not want to get lumped in with them, and obviously he made pains to say we are each doing it for different reasons. We dont want to make it sound like there is collusion. They certainly understand that there are implications to all of this in terms of free speech, but you know, as he said, they feel that there is a difference between free speech and violent content, violent threats, and in this case conspiracies. And they see a difference between the two. But it does raise the question, dana, once you get into this and start saying, well, this is over the line as free speech, this becomes violent, then you have to decide whether it is twitter or apple or whatever, where youre going to draw the line. And that is one of the concerns that they are drawing the line on rightwing speech, but what they do the same for leftwing speech . Dana a former google consultant was on our air yesterday joe cassano that he thinks could be the beginning of the end of these companies. Listen to that. We are reaching the end of what would be professional control with social media. They have all of these mobs on their platforms in terms of service, which is great and i think that they did make a stance to uphold them, the real problem is that they have not been upholding them for so long and i think what this is is a signal that they now feel accountable. Dana so separating apple from these other companies, twitter, facebook, snapchat, youtube, all of those, what do you think would happen with those companies as the new leadership gets underway in washington . Well, you know, i think that joe raises a perfectly legitimate question which is these companies have said we are simply a platform not a publisher or editing, now they are in the process of editing into a certain degree i think that most of us would agree with that. You dont want threats against the government, and efforts to build up the kinds of insurrections that we saw last week in washington on any of these platforms. But once you decide that this is over the line in this part of the political spectrum and political debates, you know, what are you going to do about the other side . And suddenly you are in the position of being an editor. So it is a very slippery slope. There is no question about it. The other thing he talked about was increasing the federal minimum wage to 1500. The Congressional Office had estimated job loss if that were to go into effect. I think that we have it on the screen. He said in florida there was a referendum and to the citizens in a divided state, 50 50, they went ahead and they did agree to increase the minimum wage. Do you think that he can do that and also keep the filibuster . Or what you have to get rid of the filibuster to get that done . For any of the baker progressive wish list items, things like packing the Supreme Court or making a District Of Columbia state, it would have to be preceded. It would only be made possible by killing the filibuster. As far as the 15 minimum wage is a concern, that has been a progressive cause for a very long time and you have seen it enacted in some local areas. In texas, you have had a lot more progress, what was your approach . Well, dana, it is great to visit with you again. What texas was able to do, remembering this and we have only been providing vaccines for about four weeks, in the first week which was the week of christmas, we were slow in rolling them out at the same time. However, we were able to make two key pivots that allow texas to achieve what we have done now. Importantly, as of today, we have vaccinated more than 1. 1 million texans, and equally important more than 61 of the vaccines allocated to us have been administered to texas. How are we able to do that . Two key things. One is we change this strategy before other states and before the United States began recommending that we begin to vaccinate people aged 65 and older. Texas made that decision ourselves knowing that it will widen the pool of the people who could be vaccinated, and very importantly, the pool of people who would be most likely to lose their lives because of contracting covid. Secondly, we have set up these Mass Vaccination Centers. This past weekend and this week we have 28 Mass Vaccination Centers across the state of texas where they are capable of doing 13000, maybe sometimes 4,000 vaccinations per day and any one particular location, and then addition to those centers, we also have about 200 more rotations around the senate texas that can provide hundreds of additional vaccines to those locales. Altogether we are now able to go through well over 300,000 vaccinations per day upwards of 500,000 vaccinations per day. Dana do you feel like he will be able to keep track of those folks fairly well so that they can get their second shot . Absolutely. We have a great reporting system called amtrak here in the state of texas, and people are identified when they do receive the vaccine. And the providers of those vaccines maintain in contact with the people who receive the vaccine until they do receive the second vaccine. Dana are you getting calls from other governors asking for suggestions on how they can speed their own process up . We visit with our fellow governors all the time about strategies whether it is a vaccines or testing or other things coming in one thing we have seen through the course of the pandemic as the governors work very collaboratively together. We learn from best practices and as you can tell from what the georgia governor was just talking about, the state of georgia now realizes that expanding to adults ages 65 and older is a good strategy to provide more vaccines to more people in each and every state.
