Trace President Trump tape and changing his tune and backing off his earlier stance that schools must reopen in the fall, instead saying they should, but that it is up to local leaders to decide exactly when. Leading Infectious Disease expert data going on dr. Anthony fauci reacting to the shift in tone. Watch. What is happening as you are seeing an evolution of a realization of the reality of what is going on. He is adjusting to that right now and acting accordingly. So i am very in many respects positively responding to that, because that will set a good example for the rest of the country. Trace this also comes after the cdc released brandnew guidelines for reopening schools last night. President trump says the first set was too tough and inexpensive. Among the new recommendations, keep desks 6 feet apart. Keep students in one classroom all day rather than moving them around, but the guidance also says School Officials should consider closing if the virus is spreading out of control in the area. Lets begin with brian kilmeade, he is the cohost of fox friends. Its always good to see you. The cdc changing the guidelines, now President Trump appears to be changing his tone. A lot of this is confusing to say the least for a lot of School Districts around the country, especially those who were right on the verge of reopening, your thoughts . I think that one thing has to be pretty clear, there are risks both ways. You cannot say, i would rather be safe and just wait a few months for this to subside. When we are getting more and more reports coming in probably sitting in your house if you have young kids, if you have teenagers, if they are in college, you see the behavior change, the learning is not happening. Experts are saying that these are moments that you are never going to get back. If you keep a kid out of school for six months, for eight months, because you are afraid of the virus which they are not that acceptable to you, according to every fact and figure, nor are they big spreaders, there is an opportunity dared to get it and spread it. You compared to other risks in staying home. Trace, i dont know if you have had direct experience, i do. I dont know if you have had a chance to interact with other kids . I have. All ages, though zoom learning is totally ineffective. For teachers it is hell. They never have a countability, they dont know why that chair is empty, they dont know why the email is not getting return from the parent when parent when the kid has not received any learning over the past few weeks. Its hard for the teachers who already have a tough job. In the big picture, when you have dr. Marty makary of Johns Hopkins University Professor saying things like there is a lowrisk thing that makes no sense at all to delay in some parts of the country starting, dr. Scott atlas, the school is not even actually a controversial issue in my view. There are three basic things that are happening. All are refutable. The kids are not big spreaders. Nor is it legal for them in almost all cases. Trace to both of your questions, i have. I have spoken to the teachers as well, brian. I want to play this by nancy pelosi on the schools. Watch. When someone tested positive working in the cafeteria and the white house complex, they shut down the cafeteria, and they tested and traced beyond that. Why wouldnt they do that for our children in the schools . Consider me a lioness. You come near the cubs, you hurt our cubs, your dad. So just dont take any risks with americas children. Trace so you have the standoff, brian, i see you rolling your eyes, but you have the standoff going on both sides, and especially in states like california and new york where they have said, no, we are not going back. And a lot of wiggle room in the middle. Okay, number one, with the l. A. Unified district and that union, that absolutely looks like a Bernie Sanders manifesto. I want to obamacare back, medicare for all, i want go by charter schools, no more funding. That looks like they were running for office. They did not mention kids anywhere in there. To me people should understand, i believe the president is in power. These local districts are saying, i know that you know that challenges in your area, make it work. We have arrows to walk in lines. Masks in school are going to be tough to adjust to, especially with second and third graders. Maybe they need brakes. Maybe there are smaller classrooms, maybe longer days, maybe some of the money we give to teachers because they are working a little bit longer, maybe we move classes outside as recommended by the cdc when possible, especially an 80 of the country you can do that at this time of year. What youre doing is showing kids resourcefulness. When things get tough, we dont knuckle under, we assess the damages. We come up with a plan, and we execute that plan. Now the hybrid model seems to me of the most so far where i want to have the option of keeping my kid at home. So maybe little cameras in every classroom so that the teacher knows there is an attendance option and that teacher knows my lesson is being beamed back into peoples living rooms, they could do it. For urban and Rural Communities, they dont have a choice. To some of these kids have been locked up for six or eight months. What are they going through . The Rural Communities without internet, but are they going through . You can say that i want to protect my block, but you are not protecting them by barring them from learning. Trace a lot of School Districts around the country are mulling the whole option. Who do they go . Do they have a choice . Some of those are decided in the late days of summer. Brian kilmeade, always good to see you. Thank you. Go get them, trace. Trace sport setting the stage for getting back with coronavirus case is surging. With two games in the books, the baseball season is underway. With us tony clark lee, the executive director of Baseball Players association. I thought night one was fantastic, tony. I was sad to see juan soto for the Washington Nationals tested positive for coronavirus. But it appears that aside from that, it looked as if all things were maybe a little bit janky in the first start of a couple first games, but it overall look to be pretty appealing. It was. Thanks for having me, trace. Having an opportunity to get the guys back on the field and playing the game that they love, and that our fans love to watch them play was undoubtedly a plus. And there were some speed bumps along the way. And im guessing there will continue to be moving forward, but first two games last night, minus the rain delay in d. C. , but good weather and a good game in l. A. , and a full slate tonight. Trace full slate tonight, i am checking. I want to go back to the juan soto thing, he is 20 years old, asymptomatic, those are all good things. But the question Going Forward is how do you deal with players who test positive . You have players that are going from city to city in baseball, unlike nba where it is a bubble, you have players traveling. To do they get to go out to dinner after the games . Do they get to go to lunch . Can they go to bars . Can they congregate with people . What are the rules going forwa forward . Well, there are a lot of rules indeed that are a part of everyones day today now that are markedly different than what the dyes are used too. What we have seen over the course of the last few weeks, the guys have settled into their Major League Cities and went through a Second Spring training, they are committed to those protocols both at home and now that they will start moving around to do so on the road as well. Its not as free as it once was. With respect that you can do and what you should not do. There is a responsibility that the guys have taken on and all of those involved have taken on on the field and they are the ballpark. To give us the best chance to play the season that we have set scheduled. There are a lot of moving pieces as you know, the protocols are upwards of 105 odd pages, and they are still being adapted and adjusted as we learn more. And we need to adapt and acquiesce to some of the challenges in individual cities and states. So we are making our work. Our guys have done a tremendous job. Trace you talk about changes, i will put some of the is on the screen could we dont need to talk about them. Celebratory contact is forbidden, no spitting or tuning of tobacco, sunflower seeds. Baseballs discarded after being touched. Players tested multiple times a week. You are also getting some changes, you will expand the playoffs, you will go from ten to 16 teams, how will that go down . We will see how it works for this one year. Obviously in a lot of different aspects this is a unique season. Both on the field and for the guys off it. And there was an opportunity to have a conversation about an expanded playoff. We did, and were able to come to an agreement. We hope that it manifests itself in a way that continues to drive competition on the field. But we will see how it works out for this year, see about the next conversation beyond it. Trace what about fans, tony . I saw a billboard fans in the seats last night. When you allow a number . Will it be a test process . What are your thoughts on acknowledging that . We will be driven by largely, i believe, the individual states and to the rules and governance in those specific Major League Cities. But the hope is that at some point in time there are fans in the stands, even if it is only a certain percentage, and then moving forward obviously when you get to the postseason, if we can continue to do things well within our industry and they are the trends outside of our industry continue to move in the right direction, or start moving again in the right direction, really get that opportunity and or open to get people in the seats. Trace did you see dr. Faucis first pitch last night, tony . I want to play this. Because look, he was a little short, came up a little bit short. A little bit off to the left, but they were right there waiting for it. I have to tell you, look like he had some heat going in there. Before that thing dropped, he had a little bit of heat. Your thoughts on that last night. Theres no doubt about it. He jumped out there and appeared willing to let it fly and let it go where it was going to go. It was grea great to see dr. Fai out there, obviously a lot of folks are leaning on him and continue to. It was nice to see him throw out the first pitch. Even if it was a bit outside, appreciate him taking an opportunity to be a part of the festivities. Trace he is a good sport. He really is. And everybody appreciated that last night. Trace the former Covington Catholic student at the center of last years march for life incident says he settled one of his lawsuits against the media. Thats after he claims they branded him a racist. Doug mckelway live at the Nations Capital with more. Doug. Good afternoon, trace. This gross level of regeneration by the Washington Post in the standoff between Nicholas Sandmann and also the native american outside the Lincoln Memorial is an example of what can happen when a journalistic outlet allows itself to become consumed by groupthink and conformity. As a many publications, the post interpreted that standoff to be instigated by Nicholas Sandmann. It was not. In interpreted his expression as a smirk and his attempt to be racist. The 250 million lawsuit claimed that the post wrongfully targeted and bullied sandmann, because he was white students, wearing a make America Great again capped on a school trip. They said we are pleased that we have been able to reach a mutual resolution of the remaining claims in the lawsuit. Sandmann who turned 18 years old today tweeted we have settled with the Washington Post and cnn, the fight isnt over. Two down, six left to go. Dont hold your breath, jack. An apparent reference to jack dorsey, the ceo of twitter. Todd mcmurtry added in a statement Nicholas Sandmann agreed to settle with the post, because the post was quick to publish the whole troop lament truth. The terms of the settlement are confidential, we have lawsuit still pending against abc, nbc, cbs, the New York Times come again, and to the rolling stone. The attorneys expect the settlements to be wrapped up before the end end of the year. Trace life for us in d. C. Thank you. Tensions rising between the u. S. And china. The china ordering the u. S. To close one of its consulates days after the u. S. Shut down chinas consulate in houston. Calling the houston consulate a hub of spying. The truth is that our policies and those of other free nations resurrected chinas failing economy only to see the hands that we are feeding it. China ripped off our hands of intellectual property costing millions of jobs across america. It sucks supply chains across america, and then added a widget of slight labor. Trace with us now, bill mcgurn, washington main street colonists and fox news contributor. Right now it is titfortat, we close one of theirs, they close one of ours. I want to tell you what the Chinese Foreign minister said about this and then get your response. Quoting the measure taken by china is a legitimate and necessary response to the unjustified act by the United States. The Current Situation in chinese u. S. Relations is now in china wants to see. To the United States is responsible for all of this. We once again urged the u. S. To retract its nondecision and creates necessary decisions for bring in the bilateral relationship back on track. Putting in the feet of the United States. Do you see it escalating, bill . Yes, i do see it escalating, because china is escalating. To the first thing i say is the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs should more properly be called the ministry of truth. Its a joke now. People look to it, look to it to see what outrageous things people are going to say. And this is part, the important part. This is not a story about conflict. This is a story about a clash between china and the United States, and actually the rest of the world that is going to dominate the 21st century. This is a piece of chinas bad behavior in hong kong, lying and fudging the covid19 statistics. Incarcerating the the uighurs, and the report in taiwan, everywhere you turn china is a disruptive force. And they mean it. Trace its interesting that you say that this is a battle for the 21st century, because a lot of experts have said the United States tends to be myopic in these situations. We look from election to election while china looks a hundred years down the road, 200 years down the road. And some believe that thats what is happening here. A few weeks ago you had the fbi director Christopher Wray saying that china is engaged in a all of state effort to become the worlds only superpower by any means possible. Pretty strong statement. Yeah, i think he is right. And to thats actually the good news. You mention the long term outlook. I think secretary pompeo has been really first rate and pointing to chinas bad behavior and the implications. You mention the fbi director. They all see this. In china one of the problems is that they dont make a distinction between private Chinese Companies and the Chinese Government and say espionage inc. Thats why ticktock was in trouble, chinese company. They are expected to play their part in the inventions and so forth. Thats why there is a sense in the Trump Administration that it is important to address these things now rather than wait ten or 20 years when china will be much harder to address because it will be much more powerful and wealthy. Trace it is an interesting take. Thank you, bill. We appreciate your time. Thanks, trace. Trace between protesters and police, chicago removed a pair of Christopher Columbus statues from city park under the cover of night. Mayor Lori Lightfoot gave the green light, but critics say she gave into the mob. Mike tobin live for us in chicagos grant park where one of the statues once stood. Mike. You know, trace, its better to say the removal of statues was intended to happen under the cover of night, but too many leaks. By the time the cranes showed up, the cameras were here and some activists. The Mayors Office as the statues were removed because they were unsafe by becoming such a flash point. There was another statue that was removed in little italy. The information about the removal started leaking as protesters were surrounding mayor Lori Lightfoots house in rogers park. Now aldermen are angry because they say the mayor capitulated to the angry mob, rewarded writers, and did not loop the aldermen in. It was all done in secret. This proves that in chicago mob rule is the way to go. That if you storm the mayors home, if you protest at city hall long enough and loud enough and in large enough numbers, the mayor will capitulate. Chicago will surrender. Now the statue in grant park was a sight of the riots last week where rioters attacked police with frozen water bottles, pvc pipe, and sharpened into spears. They had planned a demonstration for tomorrow here. And they are still going to show up and support cops. This was the scene of a horrific ambush on the Law Enforcement officers, our mayor is a coward who storms out in the dark of night while having the same Police Officers protect the guys removing the statue. Trace and the move is drawn comparison to 2003 when mayor daley destroyed the runway at meigs field in the middle of the night. Lopez says there is a difference, it impacted only rich guys who were afforded private planes prayed he says that this is a middle finger to all italianamericans. Trace lets bring in the panel Andy Mccarthy and Lawrence Jones. Lawrence is hosting one nation airing sunday night. Welcome to you both. Lets begin with you. I dont know if you heard mike tobins report, but basically what the mayor is saying is this is about safety. And the flip side view of aldermen lopez saying the theme here is you show up at the mayors house, and she is going to cave. Your thoughts, and he. I think the problem, trace, is that there are two things going on and they cant be squared. One is there is a political narrative. The democrats want to paint trump as a dictator who is sending phalanxes of militarized federal agents in here. And they want to oppose the mayors, the people there to stop that. Then there is the reality of what is happening, which is what the federal government is proposed to do is add additional federal agents to already existing task forces that since the 1980s have been in place to fight against gang crime, drug crime, gun crime, organized crime, and all they are talking about doing is beefing up what they already do in providing funding for the cities and the states so that they can contribute more police, because the problem in the cities is Violent Crime on the street. And if you live in chicago or parts of you knew new york or los angeles, you do not want to watch another press conference about the justice departments latest Insider Trading case, you want to know what is the federal government doing about the crime problem in my neighborhood. And thats what they are trying to address. Trace trey gowdy said the bottom line is if this was a Democratic Administration sending the federal agents in, they would view them as liberators. Lawrence, to you, a lot of people in chicago, the aldermen and the people around the country are asking, when does the anger, when does it satisfy . When is the destruction stopping, and to the Constructive Solutions begin . What are your thoughts on this . I have been too many of these cities, reporting underground for the channel, i have been in chicago. And what i will tell you is that there are two different groups. To the people that are out here doing this have nothing to do with the movement. We all have been talking about when the state abuses their power that we should be outraged. But there are three separate problems going on in chicago. You have the crime that has been going on in chicago for a long time that is going on answered, and that is a local problem. They have to find a way to get that solved. And then you have the professional paid anarchists that are there with the statues, burning things down, going after buildings and all that, and then you have the revolution of having legitimate conversations on how we can come together with the community and the police. None of that is being solved right now. And the problem is that you have poor leadership in these communities. And i think that they need an alternative message. Trace i want to pick up on a point that lawrence is making there, because in portland there is a man at therese phillips, a black lives matter activists, 40 years old, he told usa today about exactly what lawrence is saying. A lot of the people that are doing it are not black, they throw blank and start blank, and runaway and yellow black lives matter and take off their clothes, but i cant take off my black. In the more damage they do to this building, speaking of the federal courthouse, when everybody thinks it is popular of people people of color doing all this, and its not. I think number one lawrence could not be more rights, and we do have to sort out the different problems that are happening. And part of my objection is that i think that the democrats and some people who are otherwise opposed to trump are trying to conflate the very different thing that is happening in portland, which is an infrastructure and security machine that the government is obligated to do, versus addressing street crime, which is in the cities. The Administration Needs to do a better job of sorting that out. And secondly, i think that they are agitators who arent black and are causing big problems for black communities in this country. Because, they go in and today because a lot of the problems, a lot of this violence is attributed to people who are not from these communities. And then they leave. And they leave behind the carnage that we are seeing in its wake. And thats what a lot of people are saying. Trace i want to play this, because Lawrence Jones has a special on sunday night. I want to play the clip and get your quick response, lawrence. The biggest changes you hear about defunding the police, they invested in the police. Thats investing in training. We are teaching deescalation. When we see those beat caps walking in the neighborhood. Trace we have ten seconds, we have to hit a break, but what do you get sunday night . We have to tell the full story of what is happening in the community, the combination of my on the street reporting as well as in the studio. I hope you check it out, 10 00 p. M. Eastern time. The presumptive nominee joe biden accusing President Trump of planning to cheat this november. Quoting here. This president is going to try to indirectly steal the election by arguing that male in a ballots do not work, they are not fair. Lets welcoming our guests. Gentlemen, thank you both. Luke, i think what you see there is joe biden saying that the president is going to indirectly steal the election by raising doubt against mayland ballots, mail in voting unless changed by the courts will lead to the most corrupt election in our nations on this debate. I think it is always irresponsible for elected officials from either party to cast down on the legitimacy of our election process and what we see as both joe biden and the president doing that. They should cut it out. The thing i dont understand is that if the president is telling people mailin ballots dont work, the people most likely listen to him are his supporters. And joe biden saying to his supporters, well, the president is trying to steal it by telling his own people not to vote does not make a lot of sense to me. The first time joe biden has not made a lot of sense to me, no, but there you have it. Trace a lot of democrats are saying come on top of that you have the president telling Chris Wallace this past weekend that he refused to say whether he would accept the results of the election in november. Yeah, i dont think it matters. If the election is going to happen. The president is likely to lose, and he will leave office whether he wants to or not, i think that i agree with what luc just said they are. I think the president s rhetoric is going to suppress republicans who would take absentee ballots as one who has been an operative on many campaigns, the republicans have been very good at getting their constituents to vote early. The president is starting to lose ground among people over 65 because of his mishandling of coronavirus. But yeah, look at, i think the president should say, we will accept the results of the election barring anything completely out of the ordinary and they should stop with the rhetoric. But saying he will not leave, we will see about that. Trace on we go to battleground states, the fox news polling shows the following that joe biden is leading in the battleground states of michigan, minnesota, and pennsylvania. And i guess concerning, luke, for the g. O. P. Is the fact that all of these states are now outside the margin of error, your thoughts customer i think the most interesting thing about this poll, moving that much from april to now by not much. Joe biden has 49 points in april, pennsylvania, 50 points in april, 50 points now. Trumps have moved. Theres been some softening, but not a whole lot. Where that alarms you if you are the president is that that was a chunk of time you need to be making up ground while you were down instead of just holding surface. Given everything that has happened, its probably okay to be in the same place, but you certainly want to be moving up rather than sitting still. Trace i just want to point out in all three States Joe Biden is leading when it comes to coronavirus, not by much, and race relations, voters are split on the handling of china. Voters favor the president when it comes to the economy. If coronavirus wanes and the economy is booming, joe biden has some trouble on the horizon. Those are two big ifs, but theyre only two ways to run for office, unopposed or scared. And regardless of what the numbers show joe biden right now, he needs to run like he is seven points down and look for every single vote, find every voter, get them out to the polls or a ballot and get the election done. Because we need to defeat this president. He has been the worst president in the history of this country pretty has failed us. Are there 150,000 people dead because of his inaction. Trace thats why they call him the aggressive progressive. Thompson, chris hahn, thank you both. He joins me now. Thank you so much for joining us. We appreciate your story. You say is you are sitting in your car waiting overnight that you had this dark feeling. Talk about that. Its a dark feeling about what the future holds, trace. Its like, we can get through these tough times, you know, if you know there is an end in sight. Its just, when is the end going to be . Maybe we got through june, july, august, and then all of a sudden it strikes again in october. What happens then . How long wil will we be shut do . I am really fortunate, trace, i mean, my grandparents went through depression and the spanish flu, my dad was in world war ii for five years in north africa and italy, and i grew up listening to them talk, and i spent a lot of time listening to them talk, because they are great storytellers. And they never once talked about the bad times, all they did was hitch up their pants and their scripts and kept moving on. And thats what we all need to do. Trace you are an optimistic guy, john, as you are talking, we keep showing a little girl, thats your daughter pearl, you call her pearl, thats her middle name. Your exwife, her mom called her something else. Its interesting, because i read your story and you said you call her pearl because it is a family name, and two because of the tom wade song long way home. In that song there is a lyric that says i put food on the table and roof overhead, but i trade it all tomorrow for the highway instead. Does that inspire you . Does it depress you . What do you make of that, john . I find that song, trace, that song has been my theme song. It was my theme song before i had my daughter, and it has even become a larger theme song for me since my daughter came into my life. And, you know, i have been very blessed. I have some amazing friends, and i have an amazing daughter that brings joy every day to my life. And, you know, there is a lyric in that song, trace, that says its like, you are my woman, no, you are my pearl. And that song has always spoke to me. Sometimes i have to take the long way home, but just know that you are always going to get there. Trace it is inspiring. You are a great guy. Best of luck, we should know that you did get in line, you did get those Unemployment Benefits. Father add 50. John jolley, thank you. Best to you and your daughter. Thank you, trace, for having me. I appreciate it. Trace former nfl star donnie jones on what he is doing to help American Families struggling during the pandemic. Trace nfl rookies and quarterbacks reporting for the pandemic version of Training Camp, already testing for covid19 leading critics asking how it they can return safely, lets bring in former nfl linebacker dhani jones, played for the eagles and the giants, and a member of the 1997 champion michigan wolverines. National champions, heck linebacker. I want to put this drew brees quote up on the tweets, up on the screen and get your reaction afterwards, drew brady said we need football. We need sports. We need hope. The unwillingness to follow the recommendations of their own medical experts will prevent that. If that nfl does not do their part to keep players healthy, there is no football in 2020. Its that simple. Get it done, nfl. What do you make of that . You know, football is america sport. Its what binds us all together. Its what allows us to come out as a community on thursdays and fridays, and saturdays, and sundays, and mondays. People love the game of football. But its true. This has been such a tragic time during this pandemic. And people have lost their lives due to a virus. And we need to make sure that we are as safe as possible. And that we are players that play this game and we love this game. But at the same time, we are fathers. We are sons, we are parents that to love our families and love our communities. And the nfl players association, the nfl, the players and so many others really have to line together and come up with these guidelines in order to make sure that everybody is safe. And i look at drew brees as a leader on the new Orleans Saints saints, and a leader in the National Football league. And he is right. Players want to play. But a player ultimately as well as fans, they want to be safe. Trace you say that they are fathers and husbands, and i want to put out the tweet from russell wilson, he is concerned about his family. Im concerned, my wife is pregnant. Nfl Training Camp is about to start and there is no clear plan on Player Health and safety. We want to play football, but we also want to protect our loved ones. This is a fullcontact sport, dhani. You are talking about social distancing nonevent. This is the pivotal thing where you are breathing on each other and sweating on each other and hitting each other, and he already had dozens of players test positive, what happens of dozens more tests positive . We worry about injuries, what about illness putting you on the dl and then what . Yeah, they are so many questions that have yet to be answered. I mean, i am happy that baseball is back. Its a little bit more of a distance type of sport. You look at european soccer, americans but soccer. It is a distant sport. And as we look at some of the equipment that players and teams are looking at to mitigate some of those issues that they are going to try their best, but the game of football is not football without that contact. So when we are thinking about it from a medical perspective, we have to be really decisive in terms of how we are going to really protect the best interest of these fathers and sons that love the game so much. There are fans in the stadium that need to protect themselves as well, we need to take care of ourselves as a community. Trace i want to get your thoughts on a different topic. I hear what you are saying, the Washington Redskins changing the name of the football team, lebron james said this, just waking up walking back from my pregame nap to see about the Washington Football Team, is that real, no way, they had a thorough intense longboard meeting about that one, what are your thoughts on that . You know, i am happy that the Washington Football Team has now decided to change their name, right . And i am happy that the community has decided that it is an appropriate moment for us to change the name. And its good to rally around to the community so that we can all collectively see a better representation of the game of football in washington. And, yeah, they spent a little bit of time, and they came up with something for the here and now, and it is kind of funny, but soon we will see what happens in the future. And a lot of the players that are out there right now are having fun and they want to be able to go out there and play the game. Trace talk to me about the stand together foundation raising 100 million for family is affected by covid. This is a big, big thing. It is an amazing opportunity, and gettogethernow. We have raised over 100 million and helped 200,000 families get 5,000 cash assistance. Its the collaboration between stand together in the Family Independence Initiative to allow so many people to have this direct cash assistance. We create stand together live to interview people like dean nice, and other people like Nancy Lieberman and damon john, its been a Community Health effort to get through these challenging times.
