The salons, tattoo parlors, and gyms. President trump saying he never okayed the plan but things are moving too quickly. Using restrictions allowing Curbside Pickup at retail stores. And tennessee opening up most state parks today. At first, the president making a lot of news during that signing including addressing the controversy over disinfectants. Lets bring in our chief White House Correspondent john roberts alive on the north lawn. John . Good afternoon to you. This is in response to comments the president made last night during the Coronavirus Briefing after bill brian who was the head of science and technology at dhs came up to give a presentation on how long the coronavirus lives on hard surfaces under certain circumstances. Mr. Brian saying that when you added disinfectant and sunlight, uv light to the virus it doesnt last very long at all. So the president said something about the potential for introducing disinfectants into the body through injection or some other means, but a short time ago in the oval office, the president insisted that he was just being sarcastic. Listen here. I was asking the question sarcastically to reporters like you just to see what would happen. But i was asking in a very sarcastic question to the reporters in the room about disinfectant on the inside. So lets take a piece out of that Coronavirus Briefing last night. The president came up right after bill brian finished his presentation, and heres what the president said last night. And i see the disinfectant knocks it out in a minute, and is there a way we can do Something Like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning, because you seek its in the lungs and it does a tremendous number. Itll be interesting to check that, so youre going to have to use medical doctors but it sounds interesting to me. The president was looking to his right, which is where bill brian was sitting. Reporters were sitting in front of him. So you decide whether the president was asking the sarcastic question to reporters or if he was addressing bill brian. Certainly one company, major manufacturer of the disinfectant lysol was concerned enough that they released a statement yesterday saying under no circumstance should our disinfectant products be administered into the human body through injection, ingestion, or any other route. As with all products, are disinfectant and Hygiene Products should only be used as intended and in line with usage guidelines. Now, the president is right about Something Else he talked about, and that is the potential for introducing ultraviolet light into the body. In fact, in just the last few days, a Company Called a2 bioscience has unveiled a new device that works in conjunction with the ventilator tube, basically it puts an l. E. D. Uv light down through your mouth and your throat and into the trachea where the principle is that the ultraviolet light will shine as the air is being pumped into the lungs and will help to destroy coronavirus and other bacteria. Its not in wide use, again its brandnew but on that front, the president was right. Dana we are all trying to figure out and hoping there will be some treatments and cures, obviously no one should be ingesting products like lysol as lysol said but the idea that there could be other therapies coming forward is good news indeed. John roberts, thank you. I now, lets head to georgia where some businesses are starting to reopen today. Jonathan serrie is reporting live from a Shopping Center in atlanta. Jonathan, whats the scene like . We are seeing sort of mixed reactions. Some businesses behind me playing it safe and remaining closed and then others taking the governor up on his offer to open up today with proper social distancing and cleaning requirements. Despite concerns from the president , the governor says his plan is both safe and sciencebased. He tweeted overnight, for weeks now, my team has worked closely with the Trump Administration and our federal counterparts to mitigate the impact of coronavirus in georgia. Our decisions and directions are informed by data and Public Health recommendations. Despite the governors order, not everyone is rushing to reopen. The owners of this atlanta barbershop say they are not ready until they can acquire proper safety equipment. But other salons feel comfortable opening today. This one screening customers with a thermometer before letting them inside. I am very proud of Governor Kemp for being the first to open a state, and i think that even though right now people are not necessarily supporting him, i think it is just a matter of time before he proves that we need to open the state backup. Gyms and Fitness Centers are among the businesses allowed to open up, but as you can see, this one remains closed, part of a National Conglomerate that wants to play it safe. There are some salons out here, a group gathered outside this nail salon. Another salon also planning to open up over the course of the day, and then a restaurant, a Chinese Restaurant here which has been offering to take out only has all restaurants in georgia that remained open during the pandemic have been doing. That is going to change for sam on monday. The governor allowing restaurants to reopen their dining rooms if they can maintain a specific cleanliness standards and social distancing, still unclear how many residents will attempt to this and also how popular this will be with customers. Back to you. One that we will see them keep an eye on it. Jonathan serrie, thank you. Now on the five hundred billion dollar relief package that President Trump signed this afternoon and how it will protect all businesses across the country, lets bring in republican senator ted cruz, its great to see you. Do you feel like there are more protections here for Small Businesses and not those Bigger Companies the first time around . The initial care is actually appropriated 350 billion for Small Businesses, designed to give them a lifeline. Keep employees still getting a paycheck, that proved immensely popular and the money ran out and sadly what happened in congress is that nancy pelosi and the democrats while more and more Small Businesses close do down. And those who are rich, those that are in a Strong Financial situation should not be taking advantage of it. This is designed for Small Businesses that are particularly hurt by whats going on and weve got millions of those Small Businesses. Im hearing from Small Businesses that are grateful for the short term bridge loans to make them pay salaries, and employees still getting a paycheck. Dana so that those that are grateful that are able to get that money, the next thing that they need is customers they can stay in business. In some of these states are starting to reopen. I know Governor Abbott is starting to take some steps in texas, where do you sit on that . Do you think its about time . I think texans are ready to get back to work. Texans are eager to get back to work. Weve got right now to go Simultaneous National crises. We have on the one hand the Public Health crisis, the corona pandemic and that is serious and we are taking extraordinary steps and slow the risk of transmission of the virus. But at the same time, weve got an economic crisis that is massive. 26 million americans have lost their jobs. Millions of Small Businesses are on the verge of bankruptcy and the longer we continue those policies, the more lives will be lost because we know that kind of poverty and misery and suffering will increase the instances of mental illness. Our objective needs to be to save as many lives and that means valuing life of the ledg ledger. Dana i just had one last question for you. I have about a minute. I want to get your take on this growing debate. Bailing out the state governments that mightve been in dire straits before so they are in really bad shape. Is part of the cares act, we gave assistance to state and local governments for their work fighting this crisis, but absolutely not, no, we should not be allowed states for fiscal irresponsibility that long predated the crisis. Youve got a handful of big democratic states, states like illinois that frankly spent like drunken sailors and are now trying to get the taxpayers and the rest of the country to foot the bill. Thats not right. Its not fair to texans. The state of texas has lived within our means. In most states have lived within their means. Yes, the federal government should help with relief from this crisis and should focus on recovery but no, we shouldnt be bailing out the profligate spending of states, particularly states like illinois that dont intend to change. They want to keep digging the hole and get everyone else to foot the bill. Thats not right. Dana senator ted cruz, thank you so much for being on the show today. Take care this weekend. And we have a big show ahead. Dont go anywhere. Uten. Rakuten is easy to use, free to sign up and its in over 3,000 stores. I buy a lot of makeup. Shampoo, conditioner. Books, food. Travel. Shoes. Protesters descending on the state capital after the governor extended restrictions until the end of may. Matt finn is in madison. I can imagine that the end of may felt like a really long time to these folks. Hours was just extended in illinois until the end of may and here in the capital of wisconsin, it is a large and loud rally here, and this is similar to other demonstrations weve seen around the country in recent days, people here are protesting their governors stayathome orders. They tell us they understand why its in place, but they think its far too reaching. The economy and Small Businesses are being crushed and they say as americans, they should have the choice to enter a restaurant or business. Primed for for surgically addressing the problem with intelligence and data and not in motion and thats what our governor is doing. He is bringing emotion and politics into this onesizefitsall. I am here because im doing whats right for my fellow citizens. Ive never been a donald trump supporter. I am not a democrat or republican. Im just an american. So thats why im here. These protests are raising Health Concerns nationwide because they are not social distancing are Wearing Masks and as you can see, they are not today. Madisons Public Health department and the mayor both encourage protesters not to gather in large groups because of the concern of coronavirus bread. Police here actually denied a protest permit citing Health Concerns. Wisconsins governor when asked about todays demonstration did not necessarily tell people to stay home, but he asked them to keep a healthy distance today and there are plenty of people that are shoulder to shoulder and not wearing any type of masks or face protection. Dana matt finn, take care, thanks for your report. And the and the coronavirus pandemic is crippling the Restaurant Industry and the National Restaurant association saying those restaurants are seeing a 70 to 100 reduction in revenue in the past few weeks. Fox news correspondent william la jeunesse is live in los angeles with more. Next week, the industry will ask congress for 240 billion bailout fund to help them survive and reopen. Now is there bailout fatigue and some growing partisanship . Yes, but they say existing programs carry restrictions that make most restaurants and eligible. For instance, yesterday that bill required 75 of the money go to employees while restaurants typically spend about a third each child labor, food, and overhead. So next week, they will activate a Grassroots Network of owners, employees, and customers to Lobby Congress on their behalf. Generally, restaurants have 15 days of cash on hand. We are in day 41 of our government mandated shutdowns. Restaurants made a lot of tough decisions on april 1st when that is due. He is just a few days away. So is especially critical right now, summers peak season and that money will carry over to the winter and reopening of course has 50 capacity, half the revenue and of course rent stays the same so ten months ago a friend of ours opened the pizzeria and hollywood and said hed love to get a loan or grant but says right now, hes just focused on reopening. We know our service is of service to others. We can provide safety for othe others. So one thing they want and that new bill is to allow people with food stamps to spend those at restaurants and not just groceries. Back to you. Dana interesting. William la jeunesse, thank you. After the president signed that nearly 500 billion relief bill, the focus now shifts to how soon Small Businesses could receive much of those funds. Live in washington with more on this. Edward . Dana, right now, the office of management and budget is getting that 321 billion to put an deposit into the account of the Small Business administration. Takes about a day and a half for that process to be completed. There are 700,000 in the finished applications that need to be processed from that first round of loans in that program there. A source with a Small Business administration tells me they expect to have guidance to the banks either later today or tomorrow, so existing applications can start to be processed again starting on sunday and new applications on monday. The administration is saying that this program puts the economy in a better position to reopen when it happens because people will still have their jobs and the president did sign that bill you see there in the video, the Small Business administration excited to get those loans out and the treasury secretary saying that the program has helped already 30 million employees. 30 Million People staying off of unemployment. He believes this next round will help the same amount of number, 60 Million People, 40 of the u. S. Workforce who will not be on unemployment. Back to you. Dana thank you so much, edward lorenz. [ barking ] dana the coronavirus is impacting the fishing industry as a reduction in cruises and flights. A fox news correspondent molly line is live in boston with more on this. Molly . Those that make their living out looking for ways to weather the storm until the covid restrictions are lifted. From fishing to lobster read, they sit idle at the dock. The closures of bars, restaurants, and casinos have slashed profits. Lobster is a billiondollar industry in may. Moving it is a logistical nightmare. If you are flying on an emirates plane out of boston to the by, there are live lobsters in the belly of that plane and with that transportation not happening right now, we are not able to get lobsters around the world. The communitys support is keeping that afloat is the industry overall faces an uncertain future. Dana . Dana what a good story, thank you. At least 12 states have seen an uptick in Domestic Violence cases and stay at home orders for his victims into close quarters with abusers and make a skate more difficult than ever. Talks with a u. S. Attorney for the Northern District of texas and chair of the advisory committee. Thank you for joining us today. Im assuming that these upticks are being seen across the country. What is Law Enforcement trying to do to protect them and how can we at home health . First of all, thank you so much for having me. This is an important issue because we are seeing an uptick in Domestic Violence. My colleagues and i have been in Constant Contact and theyre just worried about this issue is we are. Obviously, the state and local Law Enforcement are getting more Domestic Violence calls but the feds do have a role here. Making sure that guns are kept out of the hands of Domestic Violence offenders and several important federal gun laws that allow us to do that and play an important part in this. Dana in one of the things i was thinking about is if you are at home, it might be hard for you to call the hotline because you may not have a safe place to do that, but you can text as well in a safer way. You can text and if you dont feel like youre in a position to call the hotline, you can access it on the internet, and thats one of the things that we are very concerned about because Domestic Violence victims may feel like they are safer at home. They may not want to go to a shelter or a medical facility right now because of the threat of coronavirus but that may or may not be the case. What we know is that when a Domestic Violence offender is in the home with someone who has a gun, theres a 500 . So we want to make sure that the victims know theres a place to call in a place for them to go to get the support they need. Dana thank you for what youre doing and for coming on the show. We appreciate it. Absolutely, thanks for having me. Dana a promising new treatment in the fight against coronavirus. Thats right. No extra taxes fees, so what you see is what you pay. Dana a Coronavirus Vaccine may take more than a year to find that Breakthrough Research is being done on other solutions. Mike tobin is in chicago. One university is fast tracking the coronavirus drug. They are certainly hoping to fasttrack it. They have what could be a breakthrough and the reason they think that they can fasttrack this drug is because its been in existence for years. Synthetic dna that was developed for the treatment of cancer patients. Its already been through Clinical Trials on 100 different patients so if nothing else, you have a rough idea of what the side effects would be. Professors at the university of louisville say he had binds with the proteins in our cells. These are proteins that a virus would use to live, replicate, and thrive. The protein that is targeted by our drug is the one that helps virus and so by using a drug with synthetic dna, we block the ability of the virus to hijack our protein and that will block it replication and infection in cells. This would not take the place of a vaccine. Described it as a stopgap measure for someone who was already sick. You use the synthetic dna to stop the virus from going and getting worse while the bodys natural defenses kick the virus out. The fda is overseeing the sum of 72 different Clinical Trials and treatments reached from antivirals to drugs to stop from overreacting things like swelling to what youve already heard about with plasma and antibody treatments and professor bates says in this current environment and in this current crisis, things are moving very fast through the testing phase. Dana all right, there is hope. Thank you so much, mike tobin. There is another promising new weapon and the fight against coronavirus. Its an antibody treatment based on Research Conducted by scientists in china. Here to tell us about it is chair and president of Access International health and also a former Harvard Medical School professor. This is a little bit technical to explain but i know youre very good at explaining things to people like me. This would do what to the virus to help us . The first thing to know is this is an experiment, but its very promising. But you know those plasma from someone who has recovered as a possibility of stopping the virus. Thats because we have substances in that plasma called antibodies. But the chinese have done is actually pulled out of those individual cells, the active parts, the antibodies and they should have the effect of plasma but more potent. And more reliable. Dana see you can make this in a lab . It should be able to treat people that are infected and treat people for a limited period of time from becoming infected. Dana so this is being done in china, but people are quite skeptical of china at that moment. Is this a type of treatment that you as scientists could do as well . Absolutely it is. In fact, i know of labs both in the u. S. And in england that are hot on the heels. People may be skeptical about china, but they should ask themselves who controls the infection, china or the United States . Dana so in terms of this type of the treatment, how soon could somebody benefit from Something Like this . When we were hit with anthrax, i developed a very similar drug from the very ideas at the time it was approved was two years. That was super fast then. That was 20 years ago. We are better than we are there now. We are better now than we are then, and we have full Government Support behind this. I believe we can fasttrack this so we can get to approval within four months and it may be available shortly thereafter to some and then increasingly larger numbers of people. The bottleneck eventually wont be approval, it will be manufactured. Dana so this is something that could before we get to a vaccine could have a lot of promise, and i want to get ahead of ourselves because we are going to let it work itself out. I know you are a cautious guy. I want people to understand in the midst of this epidemic that science will save us and this is one very bright spot, and youre about to hear many, many more. Theres going to be a flood of very exciting new drugs to treat those who are exposed from becoming them. Dana all right. Dr. Haseltine, pleasure to have you, thank you so much. I know you have an article on foxnews. Com that everybody should check out about different ways that the governors are treating this, so everyone check that out at foxnews. Com. Movie theaters are closed due to the pandemic, but in florida, movie goers are heading to a drive through theater so they can watch movies while social distancing. Phil keating is live in south florida. We are old enough to remember going to these as kids. Absolutely. Was a lot of fun, the last time anyones been inside a Movie Theater as you mentioned has been since midmarch, nearly six weeks ago and all of the lost revenue is crushing the Film Industry which fears and worries it will lose about 20 billion before this is all over. But around the country, there are some Movie Theaters open. Nostalgic driveins where they can get a return to some fun outside of the house at least for a few hours. The drivein which opened in 1948 which is the only one doing business right now is selling out every friday and saturday night. Social distancing is maintained by reducing the number of vehicles inside and keeping them in space 14 feet apart. Right now, this is the one thing that people can do without worrying about getting infected or anything like that, and they can still get away from the house and they have just a little bit of a break from the stress of being locked in. The concessions are open too with popcorn, candy, so it is all employees wear masks and gloves. They even deliver your snacks right to your car to keep crowds from forming. The two strings show double features nightly. Lots of kid friendly movies which make up 9 of the limited crowd. Excited to bring the family out with me and have fun. Back in the day, we used to call this the picture show. So the big question, when will Movie Theaters reopened and everybody can go and sit closely to each other . Big question, no answers on that right now but florida does have an opening back up task force thats been having discussions all week, possibly next week, the Sunshine State will announce when it is going to start opening up partially or fully. Dana . Dana the other thing i like about that is you can take your dog to the drivein, which i would do. Phil keating, thank you. And stick around as promised, ben shapiro is up next. Im bill hemmer. A new athome test has been approved. Another half trillion dollars from washington, how much of that is already spent . The answer will surprise you. And the governors have these Big Decisions to make, we will talk to one of them today. And theres no baseball, but there is an announcer who is bringing smiles to thousands. We will talk to him. See you in a few minutes, 14 minutes away on bill hemmer reports. Dana welcome back, lets bring in ben shapiro, host of the ben shapiro show podcast. I want to talk to about this bill that the president signed today but just before the show started, the Congressional Budget Office put out this number, they are estimating a 12 drop in this corner, annualized and exceeding gdp those are things we think about a lot and get your take on the president signing this bill and what happens on the other end of it. The underlying market fundamentals change. We can tell people that they stop being in lockdown and is going to change fairly radical radically. Just not going to be eating in a restaurant right next to somebody for a long time, not going to a sporting event for a long time, highly crowded for a very long time but it actually means its more important, not less than important to get people back so we can see of the marketplace all of this out, we can see which areas of the economy are going to grow and people can move from jobs that no longer exist to jobs that will exist because the economy will move in a different direction. Its a sudden shock and its going to take a while for the economy to recover. Dana what do you think about the tension between the desire to reopen and then on the other side of it, some people including the media looking out at them and saying its too soon, dont be foolish, and youre having this real almost a cultural divide. I think that a large part of whats happening here is americans do understand or what they should understand, there is no situation where everyone is absolutely safe. Where people go back to work and now they can go without masks and social distancing and the risk level is what it was before any of this happened and i think that that needs to be constantly reinforced. I also think its important for politicians not to play the ridiculous game where they suggest that if only we save a single life than any policies justified, policymaking is always about weighing competing values and weighing exactly the cost to not only human liberty but human prosperity. What it looks like when you have 30 Million People suddenly out of work. These are serious concerns and only unserious people suggest that any policy thats going to be taken will not have costs and risks. Thats why andrew cuomo was going to end up opening up new york understanding that the risk still exist for a lot of people. The same thing will happen in illinois and in california. The question is how these governors assess that risk and exactly what the current lockdown measures are designed to do. I think very often, they do a poor job explaining when they say flatten the curve, that was designed to prevent the capacity of the Health Care System from being exceeded. Was not designed to prevent everybody from getting in the first place. Thats just not going to happen. The testing regimen that people are talking about prevent spikes but again prevent the Health Care System from being overwhelmed. They are not designed to prevent huge numbers of people from getting it over a long period of time. Understanding that allows people to be more sane in their Risk Assessment and to be more rational about what exactly society is going to look like coming out of this because its a rosy optimistic picture is a danger and i think similarly, a pessimistic version of what this looks like is also going to be a danger. Dana there was also this problem that if you reopen and people are expected to go back to work, the Child Care Centers on the schools are still closed, how are they supposed to make those decisions . Thats exactly right. I think in the end, we live in a republic, individual citizens will have to make decisions that dont threaten other people but allow them to live their lives in a way they feel comfortable with and that Risk Assessment is going to vary based on person. To pretend otherwise is political lying. Dana ben shapiro, thank you. Say hello to your family and shabbat shalom. Thank you. So is there room to play through . Why golfers say their sport should be allowed to go on even with social distancing. My time is thin, but so is my lawn. Now theres scotts thickr lawn 3in1 solution. With a soil improver seed and fertilizer to feed get everything you need for spring at scotts. Com order today. Dana the cdc just added a halfdozen coronavirus symptoms. At first, their list included only shortness of breath, fever, and a cough. Now they have added chills, repeated shaking, muscle pain, headaches, sore throat, and loss of taste and smell. Any of the symptoms would occur two to 14 days after being exposed to the virus. We are all itching for some Outdoor Activity and there are calls coast to coast to reopen golf courses. The governor of illinois is bowing to pressure allowing courses to reopen may 1st after many golfers went across the border to indiana where you can play with certain restrictions. In st. John indiana. Jeff . And theyre still doing it. Perhaps you see the guys over thoverthe shoulder, a parking lt filled with cars with illinois plates on it thats because indiana never shut its golf courses down. But a lot of states did and right now, even now, if you look on a map, you will see about a dozen states that still forbid golf. He cant get out there, even the golfers say this is a sport that is actually made for social distancing. You hit your ball, you go up in the middle of nowhere somewhere and its not a problem. In fact, one of the golf course owners in illinois said hey come on then he put his quote up there. He says it more succinctly than i can that this is a sport that in some ways is very few people on a lot of acres out there. And they do follow social distancing guidelines. In fact, weve observed the folks here today and everybody ive talked to several golfers who say listen, we dont want to try to get around the guidelines. Its not like we are not afraid of coronavirus but we keep apart, we dont touch each others golf balls. We follow all of the cdc guidelines. We should be able to play golf. And when wednesday closes down in the other doesnt, it kind of encourages this behavior where guys go over the line. You open a bar somewhere in some part of his state, perhaps people then go up there to drink. Its a slippery slope sometimes and not just out on a wet day on the golf course. Dana i think golfers think any day on the golf course, they enjoy it. Jeff flock, thank you. Tyrus, a lot of people are dying to get outside. How about you . Im going to have to call them a look at on this one. I live in louisiana and the golf course behind me, they played golf the whole time. My only concern is yes you can social distance with golf but heres the thing, its 18 opportunities to exchange every time you reach your hand to get the ball out of the hole i met somebody elses there, and as youre grabbing the flag pole. Im a pretty good golfer, i dont know if youve ever seen that, but i am phenomenal at top golf. Tremendous drive. Unbelievable. Dana i would love to go to that with you sometime. A huge tyrus fan. Watch the nfl draft last night and did you enjoy it . Any time Young Athletes get an opportunity to carry on their career i think is great. But of course, didnt get to walk on that stage and hold up that jersey. Im sure its disappointing but better safe than sorry. Something i am happy about and i know you will understand this is for the kid who was projected to go high and he literally could spend two or three days with just the media staring at him and its very stressful so at least everyone got to be home, got that call, their lives change, its wonderful and if you didnt get that call, at least your home with your loved ones and you can figure out a plan as opposed to being under the spotlight. Dana wanted to get your take on this. Did you see this with he and his girlfriend sitting on the couch when he was getting a call from the cowboys, the new wide receiver for them. And his girlfriend grabbed the phone. We have this video here and it looked like an awkward moment of him being kind of irritated she grabbed the phone, but he said it was nothing. Was just his age and calling he was on the phone. I understand we cant get the tape of now, but i watch that video this morning times because i thought it was pretty funny. I thought so too. Of course, thats his moment. Dont touch the phone. Let him have his moment. He is sharing it with you. Let a brother have his moment. Dana we have it here. Mustve been a really good moment where she grabs the phone and its like oh, no. Im taking the phone back. Obviously very happy. New England Patriots or lots of fun this football season. Dana ive got to run. Great to see you, have a good time on the greg gutfeld show. Im dana perino, ill see you with story time and on the five. Bill hemmer is next. Bill thank you, dana. Welcome to friday or is it tuesday . Im bill hemmer. Here is where we stand at this hour. There are more protests against the stayathome orders flaring up across the country. Several states begin to reopen during the pandemic. This is a live look at a demonstration underway in madison, wisconsin. From georgia meanwhile the governor has given a green light for jims and hair salons to reopen. They continue to rise in his state. As of today, more than 50,000 americans have died from it. In a moment, ill speak with the governor of connecticut who says his state likely will not be ready to reopen until at least a month of june
