Avoided. The Vice President and secretary pump went to save the day. The ceasefire is a great thing. The house and senate are prepared to enact deeper sanctions if turkey had refused. Lets see whats happening now. The troops will be able to go back to their place and we can protect the civilians being currently put in harms way. Dana senator Mitch Mcconnell and other senators. There were 129 republicans in the house that said we support you. We dont support this action. They were really serious about figuring out a way to do something. The president has a lot of control and power as commander in chief. He does. He campaigned to reduce our footprint and engagement and international conflicts. Its been a point of tension between the republicans on the hill and the president. The ferocity of the republican response put pressure on this administration to get to this point and the word you used, hopefully it works. Dana donna, the point harris was making before she handed it over, there was concern about the isis prisoners. Its been a week. We know some have escaped. Getting a handle on those for the protection of our own National Security. Absolutely key. Is no question we dont want to be the worlds police force t we dont wish to be the worlds crime victims. We know isis is dangerous. We dont want to see a resurgence of isis. The United States, the military had prepared us and protected us by keeping these prisoners isolated from the general population. I hope we didnt lose ground. Only time will tell if we lost a lot of ground. The five stephen, i know you keep a close eye on the politics. We are in an election year. Foreign policy, how does it figure into how people think about who they want this president . People like someone who projects strength and i think the president the came concert started to look like the administration has whiffed on it and was showing weakness instead of strength. As i said, he campaigned as someone who said we would get out of these endless wars. That probably work for him to some extent but i think he realized it was a bridge too far. Dana Vice President and secretary of state are over there. We have more. There is new followed after dramatic scene at the white house yesterday. Youve probably see the photographs. Democrats storming out of the meeting is President Trump and Speaker Pelosi each accused the other one having a meltdown. The war of words picking up where it left off. Why are our troops going to saudi arabia . You promised to bring them home. He said the Saudi Arabians are paying for it. Really . We are putting our troops in harms way for saudi arabia because they are paying . He didnt add up. What he did do was cause a meltdown of the part of the president because he was unhappy with those questions. Dana we havent heard from the president today but he didnt go off on twitter last night in one tweet nancy pelosi needs help fast. There is either something wrong with her upstairs or she just plain doesnt like our great country. She had total meltdown in the white house today. It was very sad to watch. Pray for her. Shes a very sick person. We outfox Team Coverage on both sides. Lets begin with kevin corke at the white house. Kevin. Dana, i want to take you back to what just transpired in turkey before we talk about the big meeting yesterday that truncated meeting. The one in ankara is a Major Development as you watched on fox news channel. It lasted much longer i think its fair to say than most people anticipated. Five hours according to the Vice President. He thanked president erdogan and the secretary of state and National Security advisor. Getting ankara to stand down to ensure a temporary peace. I spoke to President Trump just a few moments ago. I know the president is very grateful. For president erdogans willingness to step forward to enact the ceasefire and give an opportunity for a peaceful solution of this conflict that commenced a week ago. A few points, safe evacuation of those impacted in the socalled safe zone. The violence thats been happening. An agreement to continue negotiations. Obviously we hope the ceasefire holds for the next several hours. Meantime you mentioned the meeting yesterday at the white house as i can tell you it lasted a lot longer for some who were in the gathering than it did for the speaker of the house, nancy pelosi. That goes for Chuck Schumer and steny hoyer. They left the meeting early after they say the president insulted the speaker. That was obviously not what they had in mind. They left they say because the president appeared agitated and combative. You showed this tweet. The president and the speaker using a photo showing the speaker pointing at mr. Trump, accusing the other of having a meltdown and while this may look like political gamesmanship, the truth is with everything happening not just on the ground in syria to say nothing of major events at home, the stakes are high and we hope both sides will have cooler heads moving forwa forward. Dana kevin corke, thank you. The question is can washington get anything done . Donna brazile, fox news contributor. Tell me from the democrats perspective what they felt about the meeting yesterday. If you look at the photograph, its one of those iconic, historic photographs that captures the day, captures the mood. Republicans look at it one way. She looked like she was having a meltdown. The democrats look like she was standing up to the president. I take the perspective that shes a constitutional officer. Its likely that the president said something to her that she said you know what, you will not insult me. Dana said that she was a thirdrate politician. The president , what ive heard as he was upset, didnt know who called the meeting. He called the meeting. They went over and he began, as the president tends to do sometimes when hes upset, he hurled some criticism. I have known Speaker Pelosi for a long time. Shes a woman of grace. She doesnt stand up unless someone has confronted her. Let me tell you shes not afraid to stand up for the constitution and shes not afraid to remind the president that he must respect her as well. Dana reminds me of the meeting during the financial crisis when senator mccain suspended his campaign and senator obama and mccain, they come into the roosevelt room and it was tense. Very tense. It was a month before the election of 2008 and it got pretty heated. I know it can happen. Is this a flash in the pan or because of impeachment, is it going to continue. In some way its a flash in the pan of what we see in washington. As you said, people see what they want and democrats are going to look at it and see Speaker Pelosi standing proudly and defiantly to the president. Republicans are going to see her being rude and hectoring. In some way it captures the mood of whats going on. You had a three year impeachment saga being paraded out from the house and now they have their new thing they are approaching and the president is reacting angrily. For people who arent deeply involved on either side, they see washington as broken and dysfunctional. Dana we got a tweet from President Trump about the announcement that pence and pompeo had. He says this deal could deal could never have been made three days ago. There needed to be some tough love to get it done. Moving forward on the domestic side of things trying to get a few things done lets take the trade deal, usmca. The replacement of map nafta. Nancy pelosi sounded hopeful. A lot to get done. The democrats passed over 250 bills. They are languishing in the United States senate. Nancy pelosi in the Committee Chairman and women are not freighted with the agenda before the American People from health care to infrastructure, drug prices, they have an agenda. They were not elected to focus on president clinton. I mean president clinton. Lord. Look. Neil that was a flashback, donna. I just saw him on television. They were elected to protect the health and wellbeing of the American People. Dana is Mitch Mcconnell blocking the progress . The house has different priorities. They want to pass a lot of things the Republican Senate is not inclined to take out. I agree with donna. They have an agenda and a need to get some things done and put points on the board. The real danger for the democrats, being focused on trying to change the results of the 2016 election. They start to look like they dont care about whats going on with the average american. So i think both parties at some point are going to have a real impetus to sit down and get a few things done so that it doesnt just like its dysfunctional. Dana the concern, especially when it comes to democrats, the freshman who won and trump districts going into election if she wants to continue to be speaker theyve got to keep those. Shes fighting every day to ensure that those democrats are heard but at the same time the country was attacked in 2016. This is not about overturning election. Its about protecting the integrity of our election and the security. Dana stay here for a second. Tributes are pouring in. I want to get your thoughts on this, the death of congressman elijah cummings. He was 68 years old. He was of course the chairman of the powerful House Oversight committee, outspoken civil rights advocate. He served the city of baltimore the entire nation for decades and the congressman died from Health Complications this morning. Colleagues are remembering cummings for his kindness and compassion in many folks are also planning to his firstever floor speech. They say it shows he realized just how short life can be and how we should all make the most of our time here. Watch. There is a poem Terry Mitchell said many, many years ago that i say sometimes 20 times a day and its very simple but its one that i live by. It says i only have a minute. 60 seconds in it. Forced upon me i did not use it but i know that i must use it, give account if i abuse it. Suffer if i lose it. Only a tiny little minute. Eternity is in it. Dana that was your very good friend elijah cummings. He was proud to serve the people of baltimore. He was prouder to be United States member of congress. He cared deeply about our country. He was a patriot. Ive known so many members of congress including the one that represents the great district of columbia and i called her this morning. She said i lost my friend. I said indeed. Congressman cummings treated his staff and his colleagues the same way. Decency and respect. Its a great loss to the state of maryland. The people of baltimore. More and partly its a great loss to our country. Dana the tributes are pouring in from everywhere. Mark meadows. I tweeted trey gowdy today. Mark meadows. They were friends. What most americans dont know when you know this and dana, you clearly know this. When we are not sitting in congress or in the white house, we are friends. We are human beings. Dana we are. Were friends. Former Vice President joe biden getting hit by negative headlines and answer questions about his fundraising. It is his campaign in trouble . President trump they needed a little bit of that at the beginning and then everybody said this is tougher than we thought. When those guns started shooting, they tend to do things. I will tell you on behalf of the United States i want to thank turkey and all the people that have gotten together and made it happen. An incredible outcome. You have a 22mile strip and for many, many years turkey in all fairness they have a legitimate problem with it. They had terrorists. They a lot of people in there that they couldnt have. They have suffered a lot of loss of lives also. They had to have it cleaned out. Once you start that, it gets to be to a point where a tremendous amount of bad things can happen. So a process started and we started to negotiate and i think that obviously this sanctions and tariffs were going to be by eating. I am glad we dont have to do it. Will be taking them off quickly as soon as its finalized. This is an incredible outcome. This outcome is something theyve been trying to get for ten years, everybody. They couldnt get it. Other administrations. They never would have been able to get at unless you went somewhat unconventional. I guess im an unconventional person. I took a lot of heat from a lot of people, even some of the people in my own party but they were there. They are all there. Its about the nation. It isnt about republicans or democrats. Its about our nation. So we have a five day ceasefire. During the five days, the kurds and other people are going to be taking great care of, they are going to be moving out of a safe zone which is something that turkey has always wanted. The isis, they call them we call them isis, the isis fighters they have captured, they will be under very strict control, various different groups. Well be watching and will be in charge and they will be under very, very powerful and strict control. We have gotten everything we couldve ever dreamed of and were also going to be able to bring our people back home. We will be able to have control of isis, total. We will be able to do whatever we have to do to get the rest of isis wherever they may be. They are never going to be ruling us. And i want to thank everybody. The other thing i want to spee k the kurds. Its a solution that saved their lives frankly. Save their life. Weve done a great thing for our partner. If we didnt go this unconventional, tough love approach, you could have never gotten it done. Theyve been trying to do this for many, many years. You could have never gotten it done. I want to thank everybody. I want to think every buddy bac. We are in texas and we are going to be opening up a phenomenal new plant one of the greatest men in a business, in all businesses here with us. You know who we is. And they are opening up a plant in texas. The first time i believe one of the Great Companies of the world, First Time Ever in the United States. We are having a big rally in dallas tonight at the American Airlines center. So we look forward to that. Weve been theyve been standing in line for three days, as you know. Its a record crowd in dallas. I didnt know it was going to work out this quickly. I didnt know that it would work out this well. Its a great day for the United States. Its a great day for turkey. Its a great day for our partners who have really worked. A lot of people question some of them. Im not questioning anybody. They really did. The kurds were great, great day for the kurds. Its really a great day for civilization. Its a great day for civilization. So i just want to thank everybody. Sanctions wont be necessary because turkey is doing what they are doing. I didnt need congress for sanctions because i can do sanctions that are tougher than congress. I was prepared to do that. I just want to thank and congratulate president erdogan. He has a friend of mine and im glad we didnt have a problem because frankly he is a hell of a leader in a tough man, strong man. He did the right thing and i really appreciate it and i will appreciate it in the future. Reporter [indistinct question] President Trump trick he has a great military power. Turkey is a friend of ours, a neighbor of ours, they are member of nato. What turkey is getting now is they are not going to have to kill millions of people. Millions of people arent going to have to kill them. This was going to be a war of lots of other groups coming in. This wasnt going to stop with turkey against the kurds. A lot of different groups were coming in. We might not have been involved. I dont want to be involved in that kind of war. By the way, we have the Strongest Military in the world. Weve been there for ten years. We have been in the middle east for 19 and a half years. It was a great thing for everybody and turkey, i really appreciate what theyve done. They did the right thing. I have Great Respect for the president. Reporter sanctions in place, doesnt it affect. President trump no. If you let this go, you wouldve lost millions of lives. Your friend president obama lost more than half a million lives in a very short period. In the same region. We have lost very little. Without the gunfire going back and forth, without the rockets going both direction, without other countries moving in and potentially moving in and creating world war, without all of that happening, you wouldve never been able to make it. We have tried. Everybody has tried to make this deal for 15 years. They could never do it. It was only wanted to started only when it started. The war itself wouldve been very nasty. They did things they wouldnt have done. I just put out. Everybody agreed to things that three days ago they wouldve never agreed to, that includes the kurds. The kurds are now much more inclined to do what has to be done. Turkey is much more inclined to do what has to be done. Turkey wouldnt have done this three days ago. The kurds would not have done it three days ago. This is a situation where everybodys happy. Im happy because theres no fighting. We can bring certainly most of our people back home for the first time in many years. Reporter you are talking about the shooting as though it was part of a plan. Are you saying that you plan for these people to attack each other . President trump no. But i do think it had to be an unconventional solution. The conventional solution is to sit down and negotiate. They have done that for 15 years, more than that, i understand. That was never going to work. All of a sudden when they saw how nasty it wasnt how rough it would get. It would get 100 times worse than what was happening. But when they saw the level of nastiness, they said lets make a deal. Everybody together, lets make a deal. Reporter are you sure this will last more than five days . President trump i think its going to last. I think president erdogan is very smart. I think he wanted to last. He wants safety for his people. Say what you want. A lot of bad things happen to turkey from the district, the 2. A lot of people in turkey were killed. Thats not fair. Nobody likes to mention that. This was a great thing for the kurds. This was a great thing for turkey. This is great for everybody. Frankly the thing i am most happy about is, i took a lot of heat but we were able to do it so fast. I thought it was going to go longer. This was a smart thing. Reporter is president erdogan still coming to the white house . President trump i would say that would be very much open. I would say yeah, he would come. He did a terrific thing. Hes a leader. A lot of people wouldnt have made that decision. They ultimately wouldve made it but what he did was very smart and it was great for the people of turkey and they are lucky it was him that was making the decision, i will tell you that. Reporter when you leave anyone in the zone to help monitor . President trump we are going to have people that watch it and we are going to people that are watching isis. Well have people watching. Isis will be largely again controlled by the kurds because what a lot of people dont know, most of the areas where isis is is outside of the war zone or the 22 miles. Isis will be very few have gotten out. Most of it recaptured. Whats happened is isis is outside the war zone. Thats going to be controlled very much by the kurds with our supervision. Reporter [indistinct question] President Trump hes going to be very happy. They have spoken to him. The kurds are very happy. Turkey is very happy. The United States is very happy. You know what, civilization is very happy. Its a great thing for civilization. Thank you, everybody. Reporter did you talk to president erdogan about throwing your letter in the trash . Dana that was President Trump. He just landed in fort worth. Will bring back karl rove. He knows the area well. You are in austin. I know theres a rivalry. The president take a victory victory lap. Vice president pence, secretary pompeo went to turkey and they got a big deal and everybodys happy including he says western civilization is not happy. What do you think. Look, its a Pretty Amazing accomplishment by pompeo and pence to get the ceasefire. We are at the start of it. 120 hours for people to withdraw from the affected region, five day ceasefire. At the end of the day, we have to be aware of two things. One is the credibility of the United States is the steadfast ally is going to be called into question. The kurds are now allied not with the United States but with russia and the assad regime in syria. Our influence in that country is going to be virtually nil. The president wants to get us out of the middle east. Im not sure having us replaced by iran and russia is necessarily a good thing. We are where we are and we will see how it plays out. Dana one of the things people notice is that in the haste to get out of harms way, our military abandon a base. We bombed one of our own bases. Its typical but its eyeopening. Eyeopening, yeah. Dana typical in terms of your leaving a place. Typically you have time to sort of take it down and dismantle it. They had to move quickly and they didnt wanted to fall into the hands of the russians, particularly if there was sensitive material. The only way to do it to make certain it wasnt available to them was to bomb the heck out of it which we are pretty good at. The air force is pretty good at taking out a target like that. Dana the idea of getting out of the middle east is quite popular. Its been popular for decades. The president ran on this. It was a Campaign Promise he made. I dont know how many people would hold them to that. Given the other promises they wanted including with the economy. Politically how do you see Foreign Policy fitting into the 202020 election . Foreign policy is dictated a lot by the sitting president of the United States. President obama was the first one to begin to withdraw our leadership and diminish our influence in the region. He thought it was more important to focus on other parts of the world and get ourselves out of it. Theres a little bit of continuity. Going in the same direction president obama, President Trump wanted to reduce our footprint in the middle east. Im not sure its necessarily useful because somebodys going to occupy the vacuum and we are seeing two forces occupying the vacuum in syria that are not friends and allies of the United States or of our interest in the region, namely russia and iran. We know today have an arc that rises from iran itself, goes across part of iraq, goes into syria where they can freely flow material and people across the ark and what is their goal . To dominate the region and remove the state of israel from the map. That we cannot allow. Our allies in the region. They dont want that either. Dana no indeed. Karl rove, thank you for rolling with us with the breaking news. The president just landed in fort worth and give those comments about the deal with turkey. Thank you. We have more breaking news up next. Ra so every veteran can save 2000 a year. p wri to help every veteran refinance their mortgage at these near record low rates. One call can save you 2000 every year. Dana before we heard from Vice President pence and the secretary of state on syria. They are in turkey. Acting white house chief of staff Mick Mulvaney acknowledging President Trump held up military aid to ukraine for political reasons. Watch. Okay, thats great. You may not like the fact giuliani was involved. Thats fine. Not illegal. Its not impeachable. The president gets to use who he wants to use. If the president wants to fire me today and hire someone else, he can. The president gets to set Foreign Policy and he gets to choose who to do so. As long as it doesnt violate any law. Dana we are going to be joined by james trustee, former federal prosecutor. I want to ask, do we have a report from Catherine Herridge . Okay. You will stick with me and we will get to her in a moment. One of the things that we woke up to is that Mitch Mcconnell has basically said in the senate, you could expect an impeachment trial before thanksgiving. Im obsessed with how fast time flies. Thats not that far away. Its about six weeks. Is it possible . I suppose its possible because there is no set rules as to any of these proceedings are going to be conducted. The fact that theres a timetable at all is troublesome. It makes me think impeachment has become the coin of the realm, regular as part of the political process. If you are doing it objectively trying to find out the truth about whether laws were violated and by whom, you wouldnt set a timetable. You would say we have to get evidence and figure it out. Dana left the investigation take its course. Catherine herridge, its been a while day. Very windy in washington, d. C. This was news. Theres been news breaking for the last 90 minutes. Every time i turn around theres a new headline. We started with gordon sondland. Hes the u. S. Ambassador to the European Union and what we learn from his prepared testimony is that the president directed his diplomats to work through his personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani. He says President Trump was skeptical that ukraine was serious about reforms and anticorruption and he directed those of us present at the meeting to talk to mr. Giuliani,s personal attorney, about his concerns. It was apparent to all of us, the key to changing the president s mind on ukraine was mr. Giuliani and he continued we were disappointed by the president s direction that we involve mr. Giuliani. Our view is that the men and women of the state department should take responsibility for all aspects of u. S. Foreign policy towards ukraine. In the last half hour, we had the very combative and dynamic News Conference from the acting white house chief of staff Mick Mulvaney who basically said tough. The president sets Foreign Policy. You may be a diplomat or a career person but if he tells you to work through one of his people, he worked through one of its people dana its unusual, right, the president tg nonconventional. Is there anything illegal about asking your Foreign Policy staff to go through your personal attorney . I dont know. I dont know for sure. I would say its unusual. Its an open question. It may not be the step of impeachment or removal from office but the fact that youre conducting Foreign Policy through private citizen through your attorney is new territory, unusual territory. There might be some technical violations that have come up over the years. We talk about john kerry going overseas for instance. Its probably not front and center, the stuff of impeachment. Its perhaps bad form. We were able to confirm some of the testimony from ambassador volker. From the testimony, having Rudy Giuliani created an additional layer and an interesting dynamic. He felt it was important to connect rudy to the ukrainians because Rudy Giuliani had the president s ear. He said okay. Then we want to get the best information to the president and if its going to go through his attorney, then thats how were going to do it. You can see this unusual dynamic at play. Dana wanted Mick Mulvaney, chief of staff, say about military aid to ukraine . One of the most interesting elements of the News Conference. He said in effect is corruption allegations and he talked specifically about 2016, these were the reasons they put this temporary hold on military aid to ukraine. That was the reason they put the stop and then later released it. Dana okay, back to you, james trusty. Is there anything illegal about it . It could be. I dont think its a clear cut of campaign laws. It requires willfulness on behalf of the president and thats a tough sell. Hes declassifying cone calls and he saying things that arent direct quid pro quos. If the ukrainian officials had no idea about the basis of any military aid hold, it blows a pretty big hole in the case. Dana you are both here, so this is perfect. The reports that chairman schiff, that when hes interviewing the witnesses, hes pressuring them. What do you know about that . We were able to confirm elements of volkers closeddoor interview, former special envoy. I think its an important moment where theres a clash between schiff and volker and hes trying to get some specific questions about the aid and ukraine. He says in effect to volker, youre making this answer a lot more complicated than it needs to be. Volker responds by saying listen, when we got to august, the ukrainians still were on unaware of the hold on the aid. They had read about it in politico and they had to record the meeting with john bolton so as far as they were concerned, everything was moving along in a positive way. There have been no investigation into the bidens at that point. Volker states clearly he didnt learned about the biden piece of the phone call from the state department or from the ukrainians. He first learned about it when he read the transcript that was declassified. Dana okay. Now you have this testimony happening behind closed doors. Bits of it leak out. Catherine has confirmed it. Whats its hard to extort someone if they dont know they are being extorted. All that is happening with schiff may get blown open very dana Catherine Herridge and jim trusty. Im glad i could bring you together. I had a lot of questions for you both. It was meant to offer sympathy but a visit to the white house for a grieving family goes terribly wrong. Dana the parents of the british teenager killed in a crash involving an american diplomats wife say they felt ambushed after President Trump tried to get them to meet with the woman. Weve been telling you about this for a bit. Harry dunn died in a crash in august. The diplomats wife said she was driving on the wrong side of the road. She left the u. K. Before the investigation can proceed. Harrys parents have been fighting to get her to come back. A couple days ago they were on their way to do an interview with us but then they received an invitation from the white house so they had to cancel understandably. We have invited them on each day since and we will speak with the families spokesperson in a moment. While they were at the white house, they met with President Trump was surprised the family by having the diplomats wife in the next room. The parents rejected the president s offered to meet with the woman and told them it has to happen on their home turf. If it was your 19yearold son, your son, no matter what age, you would be doing the same as me. He was holding my hand at the time and he said yes i would. Will meet with her. We would love to meet with her but it has to be on our terms and on u. K. Soil. Dana the president said they werent ready for the meeting. Lets bring in the dunn family spokesperson. Good to have you here. Tell me more about the moment to be surprised knowing that this woman, the wife of the diplomat, who said she was on the wrong side of the road. She is responsible for the death of their son. She was right next door. It was a shocking moment and it took us by surprise. It would have been nice if we had had some notice in the morning before we travel down that that was the intention. We feared that might be the case but even i didnt think thats what was going to happen. When he announced it two or 3 minutes into the meeting, we were all taken aback completely. Listen, i think we can all agree that its an important meeting to have at some point for both parties down the line. Ideally you do get the parties back together after a horrible incident like this but i suggest that the last place to do it is in the oval office seven weeks after the accident with the emotion still raw, no therapists or mediators to support both parties. I thought it was obsolete unacceptable, disgraceful. And the parents are very upset, as youve seen. Dana mrs. Charles had the president was holding her hand at the time and it seems that she understood that there were good intentions here. Do they get any other information or any other answers that they were looking for from the president . Regrettably not. Theres a sense of disappointment afterwards because we traveled down in good faith to try to see if there was a way forward to find a solution to this problem. It became clear to us may be a few minutes and that thats not why we were there. We were perhaps therefore there were for the big reveal moment that we know the president likes. Head in now for applebees new pasta grill combos starting at 9. 99. I certainly worry about an erosion of truth. I dont think most people want to live in a world where you can only post things that Tech Companies judged to be 100 true. Dana that is Facebook Ceo Mark Zuckerberg speaking to students at Georgetown University today about freedom of speech and its importance in the digital world. Tomorrow he will join me here on the Daily Briefing for an exclusive interview. Lets bring in the panel. Mike allen, allison. And rob. Let me start with you, in 2016 facebook was under a lot of pressure especially from conservative groups saying we feel you are censoring our content. Where do you think conservatives are with facebook today . Hearing the speech today was encouraging, hearing him embrace freedom of expression, giving others the opportunity to speak their mind. It said direct result of conservative speaking out. They are a big user base on facebook and zuckerberg has listen to them and recognize some of their concerns. Dana allison, is that true from your perspective . He had some good things to say but his engineers are not playing with the platform that way. Hugely biased against things like the life issue. They are penalizing groups from reaching their followers. What mark said today was good and that he talked about giving power to the powerless unvoiced to the voiceless. Thats our issue and we are asking him to free us up to educate on this. It doesnt just affect prolifers. It affects anyone, particularly those who might have a controversial view. What he said today was good. What actually happens behind closed doors at facebook doesnt line up. Dana mike, there are a lot of people on the left but are mad at facebook for a lot of reasons and one of them is theyve made this policy change. They are not going to Police Politicians speech. Elizabeth warren, senator and the candidate for president , she went right at facebook saying how can you do this . Youre right. Mark knows he that hes in Enemy Territory when hes here. This is the first time he spoken publicly in d. C. Since the hearing. Youre right. The left and the right have their issues with facebook. One of their last points today at georgetown, he said everybodys angry at facebook. He got a laugh for that. Especially on the right. The problems our perception. Theres a lot of concern for the algorithm is biasing them and by coming out, that can help because on the left you have concerns about the concentration of power. Dana on the left, rob, Many Democrats still think facebook cost them the election because of russian interference. Absolutely. I think thats what you see democrats wanting to restrict and break up the company. Elizabeth warren has made it quite clear. Dana what i dont understand is why do they think breaking up the company would stop russian interference . One of the best points that Tech Companies make is that if they break them up, its not like some start up in austin gets the benefit. Its more likely to be china which is one of the reasons, one of the cases for having the companies activate their way they are, innovate the way they are. One point that the axios story makes about the speech today, when mark is talking about free speech or free expression, hes not having to talk about privacy algorithm bias, some of the issues that are much more difficult for them to explain and defend. Dana one of the things that weve been dealing with recently, the nba has been dealing with that, the issue of china. Facebook doesnt just have the facebook app. They own a lot of other things. Facebook is not allowed to be in china. I wonder your thoughts about free speech in general. Americas best export, our values, freespeech being the first one. He talked a little bit about that today. Tried to negotiate with china, youve got people talking about human rights. We have our own human rights issues within our country. We talk about abortion that live action thats something we are asking for the freedom to educate on, free to express on. Absolutely. Facebook shouldnt be the arbiter of truth. They should allow both sides of the argument. Its better for us. We would agree on the left and the right its better discourse when we can debate these issues. Hear from both sides. Facebook should block people that say the election is on christmas day. Thats different. We are debating hard, national, controversial issues, let it be had. Thats good for us as a society. Part of his message was i get it. He talked about the biggest dangers to preconversion and one of them is big tech, including facebook. Dana i will give you a final word, rob. Its really important that facebook is responsive to its users. I dont think the government stepping in and making decisions is going to benefit anybody. Dana mike, rob, allison. Be sure to tune into the Daily Briefing tomorrow with my full sitdown interview with Facebook Ceo Mark Zuckerberg. Thats it for me and i hand it to trace. How much time do you get . Are there time limits . Dana as much time as i can get. Im not going to give myself a time limit. I hope that he will sit down and answer as many questions as we possibly can. Theres so much to cover. Some people really care about privacy and data issues. Some people really care about bias. Some people care about free expression. Theres a lot to cover. Trace you are telling me this guy didnt set out to rule the world. Now hes kind of moving that direction. As far as technology goes. Dana, good luck. Dana have a good show. Trace thank you.
