Catherine herridge has more from washington. How is the committee responding to her testimony so far . Reporter well, dana, so far weve heard from the democratic chairman of the house jerry nadler. He told us earlier today that she was answering some questions, but in a limited fashion. Other members have been dismissive of the session. They want to get to these two key time frames. One is the president ial transition in 2016, and then also her time at the white house, because its that time span that covers the key alleged incident of obstruction by the president and his team. We heard from some democrats and their concerns a short time ago. It is just an on going effort by the president of the United States to prevent the American People from knowing the full truth. Im watching obstruction of justice in action. You have the white house userping immunity which does not exist. You have to ask the question what are they trying to hide from the American People . Reporter congressman liu all live tweeting this closed door transcribed interview, which ill tell you is highly unusual. It is not standard. But he said hes doing it to illustrate what he describes as the absurdity of the questions hicks has refused to answer. Dana that is unusual indeed. I wonder how his colleagues feel about that. Republicans, meanwhile, are saying this hearing is much ado about nothing. Reporter well, the position of the republicans is consistent with the white house counsel, who sent a letter to the chairman of the committee yesterday putting him on notice that they had instructed hicks that two areas were out of bounds and that is her time in the white house and this president ial transition period. Theyre citing something called constitutional immunity and also implications they said for executive privilege. In laymans terms, these are both mechanisms that can allow for the shielding of president ial communications and the whole idea, as you know, behind that is to allow a president to freely deliberate and make policy and make decisions. Heres a ranking republican from the committee, doug collins. Our chairman gave an impassioned speech to keep everything here confidential as possible, to make sure this testimony was sealed and then ted liu decides to do live tweeting. Reporter the great thing about this session, dana, is that within 48 hours the democrats have promised to release the transcripts of the closed door interviews, so we can all decide for ourselves how forth coming hicks was and whether she was truly bound by these restrictions placed on her by the white house. Dana thank you. Next, President Trump unveiling a new slogan, keep america great, as he kicked off his Election Campaign with a fiery rally in florida. The president making his case for a second term after calling a vote for democrats a vote for socialism. He also raised nearly 25 million in 24 hours alone. Chris stirewalt is a fox News Politics editor, my cohost on our ill tell you what podcast, which we just recorded. It will be available later today. Lets talk about that number, 25 million, in one day. That is remarkable. Thats a lot of jacks. Thats almost three times as much as the closest comparable democrat race. It tells you the power of incumbency. Tells you, number two, of getting to take your time and pick your shots. He faces no serious challenge for the republican nomination. The timing is his and by waiting to this moment to roll this out, push forward donations, hold back donations so that you can really make this kind of a statement, should put every democrat on notice. They are not running against the donald trump of 2016, who was sort of doing a catch as catch can campaign. It was a free wheeling and without Real Campaign apparatus. The Republican National committee, the Trump Campaign, theyll have a billion dollars or so to dump on the head of whomever the democrats pull out. Dana the democrats foreshadowed his argument back in the state of the union. Let me have you listen to this sound byte. Its about socialism. Republicans do not believe in socialism. We believe in freedom. And so do you. A vote for any democrat in 2020 is a vote for the rise of radical socialism and the destruction of the american dream. Dana that was one of the arguments. It was keep america great. That was the new slogan for the 2020 campaign. This point about socialism and the president s strategy to push the democrats further to the left to draw stark contrast between him and the competition. I dont know if hes pushing them. Dana theyre there . Well, it doesnt matter what the democrats do, hes gonna say that no matter what, right . Joe biden is not a radical by any stretch of the imagination. But if the democrats do nominate joe biden, donald trump will say hes a socialist. Hell say he supports open borders. We know what trump and the republicans are going to say about who ever the democrats nominate. Theyre gonna dance with the one that brung em. Dana let me ask you about these new polls. This is a little bit surprising, although the Warren Campaign might not think so. The monmoth poll just out. This is not surprising. Biden is out front by 17 points, with 32 . But warren now at 15 , she is ahead now of Bernie Sanders. She was at 10 in this poll in may. A month later at 15 . Does this mean Bernie Sanders is sinking like a stone and warren might have some actual momentum . Its not that bernies sinking. Its just that hes stuck. Bernie and trump are a lot alike in a lot of ways when we look at their numbers and how things work and theyre unlike in another way. Donald trump talks about Hillary Clinton so much at his kickoff rally, that she was his greatest aid, his greatest help. Without Hillary Clinton, the reason Bernie Sanders did so well in 2016 wasnt because all of a sudden democrats were enthusiastic for a socialist from vermont. It was because of the disdain they had for Hillary Clinton and her entitlement and legacy and all that stuff. Hes not the only game in town. If youre a radical, hes not the only choice. Elizabeth warren looks like a more electable radical. Dana dont you think she presents herself a little bit like Hillary Clinton did when she was running . I think in terms of the degree of warmth that she expresses towards the electorate and in terms of the likability that she emits, yes, i think there are serious comparisons there. And im sure if the Trump Campaign could pick anybody to run against, it would probably be bernie. He would probably be the gravest disaster for democrats. But im sure Elizabeth Warren would be a favorite choice for the Trump Campaign because you could use the Hillary Clinton playbook against her. Dana bernie came after her today because there was a report that wall street is maybe giving Elizabeth Warren a second look, warming to her candidacy. Bernie said, there you go. Now im the only one that is not bought by corporate interest. Last word by you . Its going to get a lot dumber as we go forward. Im glad we have each other to find our way through these murky waters. Dana all right, chris stirewalt, thank you. You bet. Dana Federal Reserve has decided to keep Interest Rates unchanged, but are still considering a rate cut for the first time in a decade. This comes amid signs of a slowing u. S. Economy and growing political pressure from the white house to cut rates. Nearly half of policy makers see rates as appropriate. The dow is up a little bit on the news. Now to the growing outrage over the homelessness crisis in los angeles. With a group of registered voteders launching a recall effort against the mayor rp, th as the number of Homeless People sky rocketed over the last year. They have collected 7,000 signatures. The mayor set to speak a few hours from now. Well bring you that update. Major blow back against joe biden after he praised two southern lawmakers who supported segregation. And returning to national security, some on capitol hill calling for action against iran. How should the Trump Administration respond . Well talk about it with retired four star general jack keane up next. We are very prepared. Tehran adding it would start enriching uranium at a higher level unless the deal is reached to protect its economy from the u. S. Sanctions within 60 days. Trey has more. Reporter a spokesman for the aoeu tollia said iran will not go to war with the United States. But amid rising tensions in the middle east, it does appear iran has begun to make good on a threat to break key terms in the nuclear deal. The iranians said they would surpass the uranium stock pile limit by the end of the month. The iranian atommic Energy Organization spokesman added iran could start enriching uranium at 20 bringing the level steps away from weapons grade material. Under the plan of action nuclear deal, iran cannot surpass 3. 67 . Iran left the deal and now europe wor worries iran will do the same. Just last week, two oil tankers were damaged by mines, the United States, saudi arabia and israel say belonged to iran. U. S. Releasing evidence of a boat approaching one of the vessels and removing an unexploded mine. Attack is a threat to International Freedom of navigation and international waters, as well as freedom of commerce. Reporter as that july 8th deadline does continue to loom, the United States continues their maximum Pressure Campaign against the iranians approving 1,000 more u. S. Troops for deployment to the middle east. Dana . Dana thank you. For more on this, lets bring in jack keane, retired four star general, chairman of the board for institute, fox news senior strategic analyst. I could go on. Tell me your big picture on this. Is iran seeking leverage here . Oh, yeah, absolutely. I mean, the sanctions are crippling their economy. We know all the details of that. Theyre conducting a Resistance Campaign here to accomplish a couple of things. One is they want to use our allies in the International Community to put pressure on the United States and clearly pull back from those sanctions. Thats why they sabotaged six tankers and theyre conducting other attacks throughout the region. The second thing implied here, particularly for our allies in the region, they want to demonstrate to them, as they have done before when they used their proxies against the United States, that the United States cannot protect them. And the United States, indeed, is unwilling to protect them, despite the strong rhetoric. So thats the secondary mission here. The iranians will keep pushing until we push back. Dana i want to get your take on this. I read this morning a columnist for the washington post. He said President Trump has a credibility problem at a time when his confrontation with iran is moving forward excuse me, toward a dangerous test. He quotes a senior defense, former defense official, saying theres no capital in the bank in terms of trust with major european and asian allies. Weve managed to isolate ourselves rather than iran. This is a strategyfree zone. Is he wrong on that . Yeah, i think thats a rather significant overstatement and overreach. The fact of the matter is, in the allies in the region, they clearly appreciate what the Trump Administration is doing in reversing the disengagement that obama did throughout his eight years in the middle east. Even to include the relationship with israel. So this president has managed to shore that relationship up. There is tension, particularly with the europeans. Some of them who are completely gutless, believe me, unwilling to stand up and protect their own citizens, much less other citizens, where their National Interest may be at stake. Three of them are still in the nuclear deal, france, germany and the u. K. They are trying to maneuver a situation where theyll still be able to do business with iran despite the u. S. Sanctions. So, yeah, there are issues there. They dont want to come full flush and admit the fact that the iranians, given the evidence, are disrupting the oil flow in the persian gulf and gulf of oman. The evidence is clear that they are. Theyre reluctant to do that because the implication there after that is what are you gonna do about it . Thats kind of where we are right now, what are we gonna do about it . I think the answer is, were likely going to have to proside some escorts for the tanker flow through that main artery of oil development, but we cant do it by ourselves, dana. We dont have the ships to do that. Wed have to bring all of our ships to that area. We need Coalition Partners in the region. They will ante up to do that. We also want our other allies in europe, in japan, to assist. I suspect thats where secretary pompeo is spending some time right now, trying to work that. Dana just next week, dont we have the g20 meeting, where everybody will be gathered . I imagine President Trump will be able to chew on some ears when hes there. Oh yeah, yeah, absolutely. But, listen. Theres another thing our viewers should understand. Iranians are relying on history here. They believe the United States, despite its rhetoric, has never responded, and they use proxies and get away with it. Heres the evidence. In the early 80s they blew up two embassies, two air force barracks, four years in iraq killing americans exclusively. Theyve been firing rockets at us in baghdad and basra. We closed our consulate in baghdad, shot down the drone. They believe the evidence is on their side that the United States will not respond. I absolutely believe the United States can conduct a measured deliberate operation to protect its ships, and if iran interferes with that, then the only exception for response was during the reagan era when he responded to attacks on tankers and uss ship. He took down some Oil Platforms and some naval station bases. We have got to demonstrate to the iranians that we actually have capability behind our rhetoric. Dana capability and leverage indeed. Jack keane, thank you very much. Captain Sully Sullenberger on the hill. Also danny glover and senator cory booker making impassioned remarks, but could legislation ever pass . Dana today we have pete gettleman facing leadership, joe biden stumbling on a walk down memory lane. Peter doocy wraps it all up for us. Reporter mayor petes campaign remains paused as he tends to his official duties as mayor of south bend, indiana, after an officer there shot a man who was allegedly wielding a knife the other day. Buttigieg said this, every mayor and every president has to do many things at once but, of course, my first obligation is to make sure everything in this city is getting the attention it deserves. Changing gear, Kamala Harris is proposing a new bill that would give up to 78 Million People between 4,000 and 8,000 for job training. Harris said this. Todays economy is rapidly changing and will require many workers to build on their existing skills or obtain new skills throughout the course of their career. At the front of the pack of democrats, joe biden, now being attacked by a rival with the sharpest words weve heard this cycle so far. Its all because biden spoke fondly about serving alongside segregationists at a closed door fundraiser. That is where biden said, i was in a caucus with james o eastland. He all called me son. A guy like herman tallridge, one of the meanest guys i know. You go down the list of all these guys. At least there was some civility. We got things done. Cory booker shot back very strongly with this. Vice president bidens relationships with proud segregationists are not the model for how we make america a safer and more inclusive place for black people and for everyone. I had to tell Vice President biden as someone i respect that he is wrong for using his relationships with eastland as examples of how to bring our country together. And booker is not going to share a stage with joe biden next week because booker goes the first night, biden goes the second night. So if this is something booker wants to continue to push, he can continue to make statements like that and biden will not be right there to defend himself. Dana. Dana others probably will go after it. Thank you very much, peter doocy. For more on bidens campaign gap, Leslie Marshall and lisa booth, both of them are fabulous fox news contributors and great to have you here. I do want to leave you two things. First, bill deblasio tweeted this about joe biden. Its 2019 and joe biden is longing for the long old days tip tpaoeued by eastland. He thought my multiracial family should be illegal. He then added, its about time for apologies by joe biden. However, i all noticed this. A tweet, that we had this new information. Jim clyburn who is in House Democratic leadership, leapt to bidens offense, saying biden didnt say anything different than what describes his work with strom thurmond. Clyburn said working with thurmond is similar to biden working with talmadge. Little dust up today on the campaign trail. Leslie, what do you think about this one . He did say talmadge is one of the meanest people he ever knew. Not good to pick those guys necessarily. I think the point he was trying to make, although not picking the best people, something a former Congress Woman told me years ago. Do you remember Pat Schroeder from colorado . We were both speaking at a progressive event. I asked her why she got out of politics. She said we used to debate like crazy and then go out for a drink together. Things changed. Things have changed. We have seen a divided house, a divided senate. Thats what joe biden was referring to. Look, im a guy that can work with people that are completely on the opposite side from where i stand. I think he says that both within the Democratic Party because hes a centrist, a moderate, as majority of democrats are and the party is pulli farther to te left. Dana so far theyre not saying anything. Then you also have senator Sherrod Brown whos taken a swipe at Vice President biden. Bidens been leading in the polls because of name i. D. And his perceived electability. I think thats a facade. If you look at biden as a candidate, this is a guy who has two failed president ial bids. He left over a plagiarism scandal. If you look at his senate run, he hasnt had competitive races either. This is someone who repeatedly steps in it. This is someone whos going to have to look backwards at a time when you look at the previous elections, theyve been these big change elections. By the product and the fact that hes part of the previous administration, hes going to continuously look back. This is not a strong candidate by any measure. Dana but democrats so far think differently. Let me show you the monmoth national poll. Who is the most electable . This is the debate democrats are having amongst themselves. Biden got a 7. 7, sanders 6. 5, warren 6. 4. I showed the poll is now biden, warren and sanders. Thats just one poll. But third way, which is center left group, saying this. Matt bennett, she has stayed within the lines of what is manageable. She believes in capitalism. Amazingly, we have to say this. What shes offering is not a rejection of capitalism. Our principle problem with sanders is that he has. Thats interesting, leslie. First of all, in this one poll, theres only one percentage point difference. Dana shes come up quite a bit. Absolutely. I think shes rising more than sanders is sinking. There are few things here. One, his base really likes what he had to say. But hes not the shiny new toy. Fight for 15 is pretty much embraced by democrats, medicare for all. Elizabeth warren is very specific and has been with her plans. She says this is what i want to do, this is how im going to do it. That is appealing. Also, shes a she. I say that because there are those kind of disillusioned with bernie because he is not a shiny toy. I will agree with what chris said. Hillary is not on the stage and that does matter. Dana you got to pick when you run. She maybe shouldnt have run in 2016. Colin reed wrote about warren saying, warren is enjoying a moment. Biden support is softening but he remains the tallest tree. With her open disdain for the former Vice President , warren is the best candidate to stop biden down. It prevents her from differentiating from Bernie Sanders. Thats in reference to the debate. Look forward for me, lisa. What do you think will happen wednesday and thursday . I think if youre Elizabeth Warren, theres a lot of pressure essentially being the big person on this stage. If youre someone like joe biden, i think the challenge, being on stage with someone like pete buttigieg. If i was mayor pete, i would say, hes the past, im the future and we need to move forward as opposed to looking behind. Authenticity matters. You though this, dana, as well. Thats a challenge with joe biden and his abandonment of the hyde amendment, something that was a 40 year plus policy position that he supported. He abandoned that after a 24 hour news cycle. Dana when his campaign got help from Alyssa Milano to help change his mind. I question anyones political instinct that would go ahead with a Campaign Rollout to tell americans that she is less native american than the average white person. Dana democrats havent been bringing that up, but we know donald trump will. I gotta run. It speaks to her authenticity as well. Dana glad were here and there was no breaking news. House aviation subcommittee held a hearing on the boeing 737 max jets today. The planes are still grounded across the world following two deadly crashes. Today, pilot sullenberger shared his thoughts. Doug . Reporter dana, captain sully was among the one panel of witnesses, all of them very critical of boeings failure to alert pilots to the existence of the m Cast Software before the two crashes. The m cast was designed to automatically push the nose down and compensate for the max planes tendency to pitch up under full power. Sullenberger said he trained in a max 8 simulator to experience what the pilots did in the two crashes. We should design aircraft for them to fly that do not have inadvertent traps set for them. Im one of a relatively small group of people whove experienced such a crisis and lived to share what we learned about it. I can tell you first hand that the startled factor is real and its huge. It absolutedly interferes with ones ability to analyze the crisis and take effective action. Within seconds, these crews would have been fighting for their lives in the fight of their lives. Reporter one witness of the allied Pilots Association said he was the one who secretly recorded a conversation between union pilots and boeing engineers lasted november after the first crash. He recorded it because he thought boeing officials were being insincere. We decided if we thought boeing was insincere at the meeting, we would record the meeting. Boeing has a history with its 737 rudder control back in the 90s, u. S. Air accident which captain sullenberger is familiar with of being dishonest, or less than forthright. Talk about honesty, sir. Reporter a former faa administrator testified that despite concerns about boeing commercially, the agency racked up a record of remarkable safety. To take a look back, in 1970, we were losing a hull in this country every six weeks. Eight accidents a year. Looking back today, we havent lost a hull in ten years. Reporter it is not all bad news for boeings max planes. Yesterday the Paris Air Show where big airline deals are made, boeing signed a letter of intent to sell 200 max planes to the group that represents british air ways. It virtually assures any faa recertification. The continued manufacture and use of max8 planes well into the next decade. Dana . Dana doug mcelvew, thank you. Dana fox news alert on a Train Derailment out of nevada. Reporter dana, we believe these might be military munitions. The train was carrying grenades and bombs and Ammonium Nitrate. Apparently the cars that were carrying the weapons, the bombs and grenades, did not derail, but as were reportedly hearing, some Ammonium Nitrate might be on the road. I wanted to show you this tweet. Emergency personnel report white powdery substance all over the ground at the scene of a Train Derailment. The train reportedly was carrying Ammonium Nitrate, munitions and bombs. This is in eastern, northeastern nevada. Its really about halfway between Salt Lake City. You can see the picture right there of the train cars derailed. About halfway between Salt Lake City and reno, nevada, kind of up in the middle of nowhere nevada. We know interstate 80 is shut down in both directions for at least 50 miles. Those who dont know the history and the back story of nevada, a lot of military munitions are carried through there on trains because nevada has, for years and years, been kind of a dumping ground for these old weapons and weapons grade materials. We do not know the train company, the manufacturer or exactly where these weapons were going to or from. But we do know its kind of common for these types of trains to go through this area. Lot of those areas, from idaho down to nevada, carry these types of loads. This one derailed. Again, the cause of the derailing is unclear. Were still looking to get more information. But if youre anywhere in northern nevada, stay away, because interstate 80 shut down in both directions. Dana i know that area well. Thanks, trace gallagher. A navy seal giving dramatic testimony today, claiming his commander said he knew how to quote, nurse to death a wounded isis fighter. Gallagher is accused of murdering a captured isis fighter in 2013. Jonathan hunt is outside the court in san diego. This sounds like very damaging testimony for mr. Gallagher. How do you see it . Reporter it is indeed, dana. Of course, crossexamination hasnt come yet. But this is the first time weve heard directly from a navy seal who served alongside gallagher. He served with gallagher in iraq in 2017. Testified that even before seal team 7 left for iraq, chief gallagher had talked about capturing an isis fighter. He said, quote, chief gallagher said, if we ever get a wounded enemy, the medics know what to do to nurse him to death. Now, that is significant because prosecutors allege chief gallagher killed a wounded isis fighter brought to him in iraq in may 2017 after telling his fellow seal team 7 members, quote, no one touch him, hes all mine. They claim gallagher then stabbed the fighter in the neck under the guide of performing surgery.
