Not only to the families, but the economy and then to security threats that we are hearing about from the air Traffic Controllers and the fbi and the department of Homeland Security. It is really consequential to make us incredibly vulnerable. I think you sense that on both sides, and i do believe with the democrats saying they will look at 5. 7 billion of some kind of smart wall or different kinds of Border Security and the fact that Vice President mike pence and jared kushner, the president soninlaw continue to hold discussions even today with the immigrant rights advocates. That there is a sign that they are still at the table and that something has happened. Dana what do you think of the politics if there were a bigger deal . You still know it is responsibility of Immigration Reform bill. I know that the president s supporters think that would hurt him if he were to take that step. How do you feel . Amy i do feel the effects from the border hawk crowd, dana every time he tries to get something on daca. He turned down 25 billion in a package last year. And there is some push back what he announced over the weekend, as you know, so that was a temporary expansion for gps recipients and Daca Recipients but not enough for democrats but certainly too much for the crowd that thinks you know, this kind of, this is basically amnesty. So it is very hard for him to push forward with that with a big immigration deal. And i also think at the same time, it will be a problem on the democratic side. They are winning for a nominee, a party for 2020 and even though i think they should address as much as they can now come i bet they hold back some because they are waiting for that person to lead the charge. Dana let me ask you about one fox news poll released last night, this question who is most responsible for the government shut down President Trump 51 in congress, 34 and republicans 53 . It is interesting over the past month is has gone on, the numbers havent moved much. Amy well, they are actually getting worse for the president which is why i think he should just try to find a way to get out of it. We opened the government and give state of the unit cleaning up and moving on. I think there is a way to do that, and to do it as soon as possible. I think if you look at the numbers from his own supporters are blaming him and some peeling off. And those numbers and the fox poll whether or not the shutdown is more important than the wall, those numbers are higher. Dana they were, indeed. The Senate Voting on the first of two competing proposals to open the government. Chad pergram has the latest. A week ago, we were watching a static bust, when the president cancelled the speakers trip to afghanistan. Here we are a week later. How do we think this is go . We know how this is going to go. These are procedural debates. The republican proposal is up now. It needs 60 votes and then goes to the democratic proposal to end debate there. The reason we think they will fail, the only reason you do a side by side vote on both of these proposals is you know its going to fail. Both proposals would probably get 51 votes if they went to a straight up or down vote. What you do to euthanize them is submit it to a 60vote threshold. Theres some thought here once they have demonstrated remember, this is the first time the senate has tackled anything in relation to the government shut down since december 18. That was the bill to fund it through february 4. Once they demonstrate they cant get 60 votes, maybe theres an effort to try to work something out behind the scenes. If you cant get 60 votes, youre stuck in the United States senate. Dana what about Kevin Mccarthy was talking about earlier, that they have been able to get 13 democrats to come over to vote with the republicans to pay federal workers during the shut down. Could that actually could you see that happening by next week . Could that pass the senate and get signed by the president . I dont know that were quite there yet. What youre seeing is a procedural vote called an mtr, a motion to recommit. Thats the final bullet you give to the Minority Party to try to kill the bill, to send it back to committee. Its almost always a partiline vote. Something that democrats have learned the way republicans when they were in the minority before, they tried to weaponize that commission to commit. So they probably told the democrats voting yes, go ahead and vote with republicans on that so they cant turn that back around you and run as against you in 2020. So thats smart political votes by democrats, frankly. Thats always the purview of the republicans to try to weaponize those votes, that mtr, the motion to recommit and turn it around. Youll see some Party Defections on these votes here. We know joe manchin, the democratic senator from West Virginia will vote for the republican plan. Keep an eye on Kirsten Sinema from arizona, a swing state and on the republican side, a couple of defections there, too.
