But more an in person followup interview after they provide the written questions. The president is going to provide the answers to the written questions sometime in the future, were told. Its not going to happen today. Its possible it could happen before thanksgiving. Fox is told after nearly a year of negotiation over this idea of an interview, the president is just anxious to get it behind him. Heres what he told Chris Wallace yesterday. The questions were asked and answered. It wasnt a big deal. They make it like i had meetings for many, many hours. I got the questions. I responded. We wrote them out. I read them once. I read them a second time. We made some changes. Thats it. Very simple. Reporter the president is also continuing to put his full support behind his int interimattorney general matt whitaker. The president doesnt seem in any hurry to replace him and find a permanent successor to jeff sessions. Whitaker can stay in that position for at least 200 days. told Chris Wallace yesterday if he does reign in the mueller probe, that would be whitakers decision and the president would not get involved. Look, its going to be up to him. I think hes very well aware politically. Hes astute politically. Hes a very smart person. But you won overrule him if he decides to curtail i will not get involved. I have all these people that say im going to end the investigation. Theyve been saying that for, how long has this witch hunt gone on . Reporter whitaker has been an outspoken critic of the mueller investigation, particularly this idea, dana, that he went way further afield nan what his mandate allowed. There is no indication that whitaker would reign in the mueller investigation. What im told from the president s outside attorneys is, look, were probably near tend of this thing. Republicans will likely have 53 senators after bill nelson conceded to rick scott this weekend. The move came after contentious recounts in the Florida Senate and governors races. Im joined by cross kraushar. Senator scott is now going to welsh senatorelect scott. Hell get to washington, d. C. But that recount, maybe shaved a few years off of his life down there. It was a close close race, but good news for republicans and certainly for President Trump looking at the 2020 map. Florida is essential to any path of victory the president will need to have. Even in a blue environment, republicans won the senate race, they won the governors race. Those are two good signs for republicans. It makes Mitch Mcconnell happier now that he likely has 53 seats. Dana 53 is better than 52. Do you think florida can basically get its act together, those two counties in particular, broward and palm beach county, to have a better election in 2020 . Its just amazing that we had the same thing. Butterfly ballot in 2000. Its been 18 years and you have the same election issues. With snipes stepping down and perhaps a more successful administrator taking over in broward and maybe new leadership, that could change. Dana i was reading your column this weekend. One of the things i wanted to show is republicans were able to flip four senate seats in this Midterm Election. North dakota, indiana, missouri and now florida. But the 2020 map, how does that look for democrats and republicans . Florida is a huge insurance policy. Rick scott is Mitch Mcconnells insurance policy for 2020. 53 votes for mcconnell is better than 52. If you look at 2020, with democrats doing on offense theyll have more opportunities to win seats than republican. But on the other hand, theres only two seats that republicans hold that are in states that Hillary Clinton won. One of those seats is susan collins, whos got sky high job Approval Ratings in maine. Doug jones is also hanging out there in alabama. Hes going to be the most vulnerable senator in the entire country. When you think about 53 seat, mcconnell probably has four seats he can lose if jones doesnt win in alabama. Dana the president will head to mississippi to help rally for that Senate Election there. Do republicans have anything to worry about in mississippi . When you have a special election or run off in this case, its always unpredictable in this case. Trump wants to make sure republicans show up for hyde smith. Its an extra cautious move to make sure republicans vote. Dana they call it insurance for a reason. My last question for kwrourbg just before you came on air, a new letter against nancy pelosi being the next speaker of the house signed by 17 democrats has just been released. Maybe it wasnt 16 democrats. Nancy pelosi doesnt have a lot of room to play with. What do you thinks going on . One thing that was striking about that letter, first of all there is a base of discontent within the Democratic Party caucus in the house. But, all but two of the democrats who signed the letter are men. Theyre not a whole lot of freshmen who were just elected. I kind of wonder whether that will hold. Whether theyll baseball to sustain that opposition if pelosi is able to make her own move with her caucus. Its a big number, but i wonder how flexible some of the House Democrats opposition are. One they have a pipeline. Here in Southern California, rain is also an issue, but for a different reason. Were standing on a bluff above the Pacific Ocean here in malibu. Looming over us are the santa monica mountains. You can just see the burn right across them. What has happened is that the fire has stripped all the vegetation, all of the trees, all the brush. When that happens, the soil and all the rocks, etc, essentially lose their anchor. So the fear is if the rains come down, as forecast in the middle of this week just before thanksgiving, then that could generate mud slides. We saw it last year after the awful fires in Santa Barbara followed by rain and deadly mud slides. Thats the great fear. Malibu is trying to put itself back together. We were out just a short time ago driving along some of the streets. You can look at the video there. Pretty much every street you go down you find scores and scores of power workers who are trying to get the power lines back up and basically get this small city back up and running. Its not easy. Lot of the schools are tells us they will be closed through until next monday. It may even have to be much longer than that because they have to get everything back together. They have to make sure its safe for the students to come in. Mean time malibu has been open entirely now to residents who want to get back to their homes. But, dana, as you look at the scene around us here, hundreds of families are going to come back to find that there is literally nothing left to come back to. After burning one Elementary School to the ground and damaging others tim taylor is the buke county superintendent. Over the weekend i had somebody message me on instagram saying the schools need some attention out there because youre trying to figure out a way to get these children back in school, get the teachers back in the classrooms. You need portable classrooms. Theres a lot of things you need. Tell us about your experience. I think the first and foremost thing, we have a target gate of december 3rd to get all kids back into a school setting. Longer term, were going to have to look at interim portable campus. But weve got to get these kids back in school. Were working very hard to do that, to get our Mental Health counselors and teachers to do that. Just to give you a quick snap shot, theres 32,000 kidses in this county that go to school. We have probably 600, 600 to excuse me, 5,000 to 5700 students that are homeless without a house. So really zeroing in, i heard from the Athletic Director at paradise high. Out of the 200 athletes that are playing sports, 195 are homeless. Thats the severity of this. So our first goal is to get that december 3rd start date. We have we probably have between 500 an 700 teachers that are homeless. Its a very complicated thing to get our teachers prepared for that december 3rd date. Were working throughout the state to get help on this. This is a massive problem. Dana sir, if there isnt a place for them to stay and live and lay their head at night, how will they be able to even come to a school . Well, we know that many have already moved out of the county and gone to places where they have other relatives. We are going to lose a lot of children that cant come back to our schools in butte county. The rest of the county is bonding together to get them housing. Its social services working with education to do that. Our number one goal is to get those students back with a teacher they had before the fire. Thats our number one goal. We know thats not a reality since many have had to find whatever housing theyve needed to. Since theyre homeless they have the federal right to go into any school that they are temporarily residing in. So they have a lot of rights that now protect them. Wed love to have every kid get back to the teacher they had before. That would be the best thing for their trauma. Dana that was going to be my last question for you. Tell me what the children need. If theres ways we can help. I assume part of it is just having somebody there that they can talk to. Im sure the trauma is something thats internalized as they try to figure out what to do next. Yeah. I think we have a really great team that is going to put together a trauma team. I think what america can do for us, keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Its very important. Secondly, this is way out of our league. Were a spaghetti feed, fun run small town rural community, so these people, these major donors and corporations are overwhelming. So im putting together a team to deal with that and get a message out what we need. Really, theres plenty of clothing coming in. Were going to need funding and somebody to help organize us. Were not equipped for Something Like this. But people are gonna help us. I think the last thing, the other day i was on a press conference saying id like to see beyonce and garth brooks come up here before they start that december 3rd. They need something positive. We dont want a fundraiser, live aid pip aoed just like them to go play a little concert for the kids to get them back to some normalcy. Im going to push that out. Im not trying to shame them.
