Absurd. Back in january, he went to the grand jury and in those two and have daisies at the president committed a crime. Hes going to sit there for the next six months working for the president who committed a crime . Its absurd. Dana john roberts is on the north lawn, john . Good afternoon to you. The president and his attorneys knew full well that don mcgann was going to cooperate with special prosecutor Robert Mueller in his investigation. In fact the whole idea for cooperation was hatched by the president s attorney at the time. Initially, mcgann had been very reluctant to cooperate with mueller. His job as he thought was to protect the presidency and cooperating with mueller may set president for a future white houses. But doubt in cobbs thought that access to white house personnel including mcgann would avoid subpoenas from mueller and bring us books which are conclusion to the special counsel investigation. Listen to what Rudy Giuliani said about that yesterday. They allowed 32 witnesses to testify and turned over 1. 4 million documents. And in fact, i would think john dowd would tell you with an agreement with bob mueller that it would be concluded quickly. If i had known the outcome, that mueller had not concluded quickly and it was amended attempt in good faith to try to work at the resolution, i might have chosen a different strategy and im pretty sure he would have. The other big issue with the white house, the revocation of security clearances. President trump this morning fairly daring the former cia director john brennan to sue him to try to get his security clearance back. Brennan had suggested yesterday that he might do that, the president tweeting, i hope john brennan, there were cia director in the countrys history brings a lawsuit. It will then be very easy to get all of his records, texts, documents and emails to show not only the poor job he did but how he was involved with the mueller rigged witch hunt. He wont sue. Brennan has been one of his most outspoken critics, recently saying that the summit was nothing but treasonous. He defends his visceral criticism of the president , insisting hes not being political. These are abnormal times and i think a lot of people have spoken out against what mr. Trump has done. It might be my morning training as an intelligence professional, i seen the lights blinking red in terms of what mr. Trump has done and is doing and is bringing this country down on the global stage and hes fueling and feeding dv sicknesss in the country. Theres plenty of critics, but even among those people, some including admiral mike mullen are suggesting that brennans outspokenness is hurting the Intelligence Community and they dont think he should do it. Dana john roberts, good to see you again. Jury is still deliberating on the Paul Manafort trial is the judge orders the names of jurors to remain sealed because of threats. Peter doocy is outside federal court in alexandria, virginia. Thats right. The judge that again today that the names of the jurors are going to remain under seal and you want to remind of the court that on friday, he rolled against a bunch of news outlets including the ap and the New York Times and cnn who filed a motion to intervene, seeking the names of the jurors and transcripts from bench conferences be released before a verdict comes down. Ellis said not only with that subject jurors to threats like hes received during the trial but he said jurors would be scared and afraid to serve on juries in highprofile cases like this if they knew going in at their i. D. Would not stay a secret. Its not clear how much of this the jury is aware of though as a judge makes these rulings relating to their safety before or after they enter and that jury is not supposed to do any research or reading on the case outside of court. History has been delivering for more than 18 hours now. Our team inside the court room that laid eyes on the six men and six women of the jury revealed that at least two of them seem stressed or preoccupied. One other note from their brief appearance, they sat in different chairs than they sat in for the first two weeks of the proceedings. Nobody knows what that means. The main fort defense Team Continues to express their beliefs that long deliberations are better for their side. A source close to the defense team said to them, it feels like the 2016 Election Campaign when many experts and watchers thought the result was going to be a foregone conclusion but they want of being surprised when they got to the end and there was a different result. We want to thank you. Joining me now, michael moore, former u. S. Attorney for the middle district of georgia. Youve been in the courtroom as a prosecutor. Everyone is trying to read the tea leaves here, the jurors are reading in different seats. A couple of them looked stressed and somewhat happy, even read a note that one juror scratched his face. Are they reading into it . They are reading far too much into it. It was a complex case and there was plenty of evidence and a number of charges but most people in the jury are not tax encounters or lawyers and they are going through the indictment and trying to match of the evidence they heard. I think looking at facial expressions or frustration, its never fun to have just sit in there and you are locked in a room, but this is really not at all an inordinate amount of time for people to deliberate. Dana i want to ask you about that because the defense is encouraged that deliberations have gone on this long, that every day or hour that it goes on, its better for their client, Paul Manafort. Is that generally the case . My general experience is if you have a very quick verdict, that can be bad for the defendant. Im not sure the long delay is good for a defendant. There is a lot of evidence in this case, there is overwhelming proof that men manafort was moving money around. If he was sitting in his ostrich jacket bemoaning his finances, i think thats not common sense. You may have some jurors and their wrestling with the decision or with the particular accounts about what the proof was on a particular account and they may debate those now, but if you think about the fact that theyve been there about 18 hours, thats about an hour per account. You do that and you still have to have bathroom breaks and lunch and that type of thing. Its really not that long, i think his team may be putting a little too much emphasis on it. Sometimes lawyers do that. Dana ive heard that lawyers do that. Let me take another topic. Don began, the president S White House counsel had given, with the president s full permission, an opportunity to be interviewed by a mueller for about 30 hours total. Telling him things like, being able to describe the president s fury toward the russian investigation, and mcgann apparently said that trump attempted to fire mueller but he also cautioned that he never saw trump go beyond his legal authorities, which are murky. The wall street Journal Editorial Board wrote this. The bottom line is that readers should remain skeptical about what is reported about mr. Muellers probe and wait to see the evidence actually produces. But when you talked about don mcgann going in and the president did not try to assert any executive privilege, what did you think . You know the white House Counsel as counsel for the office of the president , and i wasnt surprised to see there would be some cooperation, nor was i surprised to see that mcgann would want to talk to them. He would want to be the one ring out to dry so he wanted to make sure the record was clear in that regard. Also, and i read it about the same time i did some information where the president had referred to john dean as a rat. I said before, rats jump off of a sinking ship, and that is you may have some people who were close to the president who are feeling the need to make sure they are not ultimately settled with some of the decisions and actions that have come from the administration. So that being the case, i think its normal for muellers Interview Team to go back a number of times and talk to a witness. I also thought it was interesting that the executive privilege itself was not waived. We seen that asserted at various points both in congressional hearings, but i thought it was interesting at that point the executive privilege was not waived. Dana bill burke, who was don mcganns lawyer worked as a white House Counsel and ask the president s lawyers a couple times, are you sure you dont want to assert any privilege here . Almost hinting they may want to rethink that. Now Rudy Giuliani basically inherits the original teams approach to the case. Rudy giuliani has tried to make it look like it seamless and they are all on board and everything is fine, do you think that will hold . I think at this point, there was a little bit of it in a statement that giuliani made, i might have done something different. But if hes in a situation where things go south, he will blame the former lawyers. If things go well he will say, it went well because i continue down this path and it was my perseverance as his great lawye lawyer. I dont know that his legal strategy moving forward has been as effective as may be his p. R. Strategy has been as he has tried to sort of shift the discussion and the debate on whats going on. Dana it one last question, the president has been very vocal calling the Mueller Investigation a rigged witch hunt. Aside from a few of the stories that pop up, we dont actually hear from mueller, he hasnt spoken to the public in a year and a half. Theres all this public p. R. , doesnt have any effect on what mueller is doing . Absolutely not. Remember mueller is a soldier by profession, and he actually was asked to go to vietnam and try to wait out an injury. Hes following his policy. Prosecutors dont come out and are instructed under doj headlines to come out and talk about the investigation, and hes doing exactly what he ought to do. I think he feels absolutely no pressure from the noise thats being made, from the trump team. But by same token dana well maybe not on twitter. The danger for the trump team coming out talking about this stuff, about it being a witch hunt and Paul Manafort and all the stuff, it can impact jurors or it could be messages sent to other witnesses. I think thats the danger, we dont let the process take its natural course. It seems like its been a very long time but in reality if you judge it against other investigations, this has not been a long investigation at all and has actually returned some significant charges and confirm some of the initial thoughts about Intelligence Community is. Dana this new cycle every day, feels like seven. Michael moore, thanks for being here. We are keeping an eye on the white house were Trump Officials are putting the spotlight on immigration. The president is expected to speak at the top of the hour and we will bring that lives. And how messaging specifically about i. C. E. Is having an impact on the midterm. Life line screening. The power of prevention. Call now tow to learn more. Dana Monmouth University released a bunch of new poles covering everything from the Trump White House to them in four trials to voter views on several pressing issues. Joining me, chris stillwell. We have a new poll from monmouth, which is interesting because it was last taken in june. So we have the summer time to look through. One of the questions was about Paul Manafort and of the trial. And this may not be that big of a surprise to you, but you tell me that 75 said they had heard about them in a fort trial and 25 said they had not. The second question was about the charges against speed of manafort, and 29 said evidenced what really caught my eye was tt 42 said probably a little bit of both. Your thoughts . There is probably truth and that realization. Paul manafort im sure would have ended up facing prosecution for these alleged crimes, and the other batch of charges hes facing in the district of columbia. The hard rain was going to fall at some point sooner or later on Paul Manafort from the Justice Department, but no doubt the fact that he went from kind of a golden oldie, guy in washington who everybody knew delved in some fairly unpleasant circles who was sort of a throwback from the nixonreagan era, then you have this guy. I doubt if he hadnt been in such a prominent position as leading the president ial campaign of the republican nominee and eventual president of the United States, im sure that made it worse for him because prosecutors always care about the message and they always care about what people are taking away from this. If you are in a position of more power and more authority, its going to get harder. Dana let me ask you about Something Else, theres something i thought was harder for President Trump that probably was in his opinion, good. But i was apprised of that still come up the tax reform bill that republicans point to over and over again that is helping get us to this point, this roaring economy right now, still only 37 approve and 45 disapprove. Thats a slight improvement for the president ridge is 34 approved in june, but still thats nothing to write home about. There is this though, thats kind of a reflection of partisanship. If you look at who is undecided in that poll and people who are not sure what to think about the tax law, if you take them out, now we are looking at basically a broad reflection of partisanship in the country and there are a lot of democrats that if the republican tax plan had produced an end to hunger, want, need need to every amerin the world, they would still say that even if it took candy away from every baby in the country. Dana 38 say tariffs in the economy, down 2 from june. Only 20 say it would help, but thats up 3 from june. If the president keeps at this, the consequences were down from the terrace and how severe they were. Its already happening in some districts, but it hasnt happened in the large sense yet because ive been able to stave off total disaster. I would submit though, as long as the calf, catastrophe stays at bay, just as long as he has against the Justice Department and others, he will bring more publicans over time and that change will take place over tim time. Dana and the economy is doing extremely well. And its an increase in personal income and the 1. 3 drop in the unemployment rate. He promised to end the democrats war on coal and he has delivered. As a result of strong progroup policies, the Mountain State led the nation and adding more than 1300 coal mining jobs and thats more than any of the other states combined. With the second largest number of job gains. So clearly, hes going to talk about this tomorrow night. You are from the Mountain State, how will he be able to try to help the republican they are against joe manchin . Well, we will see. Certainly, an increased number of coal jobs a good talking point. He says, yes, and i support the president and his efforts. I have a track record for having opposed democrats, and remember joe manchin when he was running for senate, he shot the obama legislation, hes been there on this point. He said, i was with you all along. You might also say that about Brett Kavanaugh, the president Supreme Court nominee. I bet you he well. Be sure to tune into the Daily Briefing tomorrow, we will have the First National interview with Andrew Wheeler since he became active epa administrator. As a wall street journal reports, the president is expected to announce a rollback of restrictions on a coal burning power plants. Imagine never meeting her parents until well into your adult life . More than a dozen people had that experience today. And the pope addresses the worlds billion plus catholics about the latest allegations of sexual abuse in the church. Pope francis is doing a rare letter to catholics around the world. Todays letter as a response to a shocking pennsylvania grand jury report claiming hundreds of predator priests sexually abused children for decades with Church Leaders covering it up. Bryan llenas is covering the story from our new york newsroom. In an unprecedented threepage letter letter addreo the people of god, pope francis condemned the sexual abuse coverup. He wrote, no effort must be spared from keeping sexual abuse from happening again. He also said the church has delayed implementing necessary reforms that would hold those committing abuses accountable. Letter also address the pain that abuse survivors are going through. Francis acknowledging we were not where we should have been, that we did not act in a timely manner, realized the magnitude and the gravity of the damage done to so many lives. We showed no care for the little ones, we abandoned them. He went on to say, let us beg forgiveness for our own sins and the sins of others. While exceptionally contrite, the letter did not offer any specific reforms moving forward, nor does it handed down any punishment for abusers. This letter comes six days after pennsylvanias attorney general josh shapiro announced the horrific findings of an 18 month investigation laid out in 1400 page grand jury report which explained how over a thousand children were abused by 301 priests over the course of 70 years in that state. Shapiro called the popes letter powerful and he also says it is my hope that following the holy fathers words and teachings, Church Leaders in pennsylvania will cease their denials and deflections. Meanwhile, all eyes are on Donald Cardinal world, washington, d. C. He is named in the grand jury report accused of covering up for some 100 priests who abused children while he was bishop in pittsburgh for 18 years. Hes holding a Council Meeting with priests in his archdiocese today. The cardinal has also canceled his appearances this weekend at the world meeting of families in ireland where he was set to give a keynote speech in front of the speech. No reason given for the cancellation. Dana all right brian, thank you. Dozens of families ripped apart by war and conflict are reunited for the first time in decades. Dana federal investigators now looking into possible bank fraud connections with Michael Cohen. He may have illegally obtained about 20 million in loans connected to a taxi business he owns. Rick, what are you learning . Its difficult to confirm any of this. His lawyer isnt talking too much and federal prosecutors wont speak too much on the record about an ongoing investigation. According to the New York Times, charges could be filed against him up before the end of the month, and and the feds are focused on more than 20 million of loans using 32 new York City Taxi medallions as collateral. The medallions were valued at more than a million bucks each at the time and were generating more than a million per year in income according to the times. It says the feds are looking at how cohen reported the income from those medallions. His attorney would only tell us that he couldnt comment, and certainly wouldnt respond to anonymous people who call themselves investigators but will hide behind anonymity. I actually reached michael by phone today but it was a very quick phone call. He told me to talk to his attorneys and hung up the phone. One very polite phone call. Does not get from politico, and says that his lawyer has spoken regularly for the past six months with john dean. Dean was the white House Counsel to help bring down the presidency of richard nixon. Davis told politicos that he sees parallels between watergate and what Michael Cohen is experiencing and wants to gain from johns wisdom. The times article suggests charges could be filed before the end of the month and also speculates that the case may not go anywhere until after the Midterm Elections. So we could have resolution and a couple of weeks, or maybe not so much. Because that is that window that the Justice Department likes to avoid before the election. All right rick, thank you. The israel and u. S. Are calling on greater pressure to keep weapons out of the hands of the rogue regime. John bolton meets today with israels Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. Tres is live in jerusalem. Thats right, dana. The National Security advisor for President Trump john bolton is meeting with israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in israel. Ultimately this was an opportunity for these tutus discuss their shared opinion that the Iran Nuclear Deal pave the way for tehran to create a nuclear bomb. Their decision to withdraw made it less likely for tehran to obtain this type of weapon. Now fulton and netanyahu are calling for them to put pressure on iran to ensure the regime is not capable of developing this sort of arsenal. Listen to what the israeli Prime Minister had to say regarding this issue from jerusalem earlier today. I frankly believe that all countries who care about peace and security in the middle east should follow americas lead and ratchet up the pressure on iran. Again, those comments made along side john bolton. Now bolton will be meeting shortly with president rutland of israel and paying a brief visit to the u. S. And to see her in jerusalem. Dana thank you. For more on this, lieutenant michael walsh, former Green Beret Commander and running for the sixth congressional district. Let me have you listen to what john bolton said earlier today about his trip and his meeting with netanyahu. Its a question of the highest importance for the United States that iran never get a deliverable Nuclear Weapons capability. Its why President Trump withdrew from the wretched Iran Nuclear Deal, and thats why he is reimposing economic sanctions. Its why weve worked with our friends in europe who convince them of the need to take stronger steps, Nuclear Weapons and the Ballistic Missile program. Dana part of this is the administration wants to put the focus of the middle east policy squarely on iran. Dana, President Trump knows and certainly our friend john bolton knows that the achilles heel for iran is its economy. Since they have withdrawn from new the deal, the economy continues to tank. The daily occurrence is going through the floor, and really the question is, can we continue to isolate iranian oil . The biggest buyers are india and china. Also they want to work with opec to increase exports and continue to squeeze the regime. I think thats the right move and we will see that eventually trying to come back to the table but they will do it to try to drag out some negotiations. Lets keep up the pressure. Dana let me ask you about afghanistan, you turn the mic served as there is a green beret, and there was this trauma during this peaceful buyer in june and horrific violence from last week. But just last week the president said hes hopeful that is another ceasefire. What do you think about our positioning right now, the president announced a strategy, are we doing the right thing with that strategy or do we need to change course . The president was right to comment number one, increase the air strikes, increase the advisors and mustve partly walked away from the timely and that president obama had in place. But we do need to increase to the pressure on pakistan. Id like to see sanctions on pakistani intelligence and id like to see the military option to take the taliban and the al qaeda headquarters out once and for all. That will get pakistans attention. Dana do you think we have an opportunity here with pakistan since they just elected a new president . Unfortunately the new president as a pakistan apologist. Everyone focuses on the military as the big stick but really its the American Economy and thats what i want to see, he is the pressure of that regime to walk away from the television once and for all. No counterinsurgency in history has been successful with the enemy right next door has a place to rest and refit. You mentioned the u. S. Economy is one of the greatest lovers of the United States has and the president has, that also goes with turkey. It was about pastor bronson and how the United States is not going to come back down on him, and the economic lever is the one that is strongest right now. Kudos to the president for putting these hostage cases front and center. It regimes all over the world think they can take americans hostage and hold it over our head and this president is imposing real costs on that behavior, whether its iran or turkey or others that think they can get away with this. Authoritarian regimes responded to their pocketbook and i think that is what you are seeing the president do here. Turkey is very tough, we cant drive them into the arms of the russians but at the same time we cant put up with erdawan how did a woman survived ten hours in open water after somehow falling off of a cruise ship . Its not clear how the passenger went overboard but she is in a croatian hospital in stable condition. She reportedly used yoga and singing to stay awake and survived the night at sea. Some democrats continue to criticize the agency calling to abolish and replace it. Joining me now is matt bennett, Senior Vice President , and lauren jones, a host of the lauren jones show. Let me start with you, it just so happened that this morning i was listening to a podcast and he was interviewing lene let me make sure i have that correct, lene erickson. She was talking about democrats and the whole call to abolish ii dont like i. C. E. And how its kind of frustrating for people there. I think abolish the i. C. E. Is a ridiculous idea, its a cute Bumper Sticker but the people on the border and the people who are democrats, leading democrats on the border, as progressive as they come have said to come thats not a smart policy and is certainly not smart politics. Dana when i look at the list of all the democrats who have said this is a bad idea including the democratic hispanic caucus. This has become a rallying cry for some democrats, and the republican hosting this event at the white house to honor i. C. E. Employees. Your thoughts . I certainly agree with lene. If you look up a democrat running for senate in texas, he certainly opposes this idea. As you know, you can move boxes around on a flowchart. They got rid of ins during the bush years and replaced it with i. C. E. But we will always have an Enforcement Agency for immigration, and whether you call it i. C. E. Or Something Else is irrelevant. The real issue is how the Trump Administration is conducting immigration policy and thats the thing that democrats ought to be talking about. They ought to be talking about tearing children from the arms of their parents at the border and separating them at the border. This is a distraction from the really important issues. Because of the Family Reunion issue is ongoing, but, what do you think it sends to the republicans out there campaigning, do you think it should support them as well . I always said that litigating this issue is dumb as it relates to the democrats because the president already won this election on this issue in the past election. So the fact that they made immigration the issue, as it relates to members of congress, the tension was really high because even people that disagree from a political standpoint on immigration policy, they agree that there shouldnt be separation. But i think that has changed because the democrats are chasing the next outrage and i think thats part of the problem with the Democratic Party right now. They move from one issue to the next. I will move from one issue to the next and ask matt about Brett Kavanaugh. We just got these numbers in today about some fundraising on the conservative republican side of things. The race in july, the Senate Leadership fund, 26 million. A lot of that had to do with the nomination of cavanaugh, and yet for this nomination it seems like democrats are also pouring millions into ads across the country. What do you make of that, is this an issue where you think you have a chance of blocking the president s nominee . I think its possible, its hard to see how the conservatives are outspending the left by like 71 on this. So if it comes down to who can spend more, democrats are going to lose. And doug jones, the new senator from alabama said he seeing his face on tv now more than during the campaign. And, hes going to be president for two and a half years, and its likely he will fill that with somebody. The issue being raised in this fight are very, very important, the question of whether a womans right to choose will survive after this appointment appointment dana and executive power. I will give you the last word to come up on Brett Kavanaugh with a rallying cry for republicans going into the midterm. I think the democrats should have picked a different issue because what they will end up doing, if republicans feel, because they are complacent right now, if republicans feel like the Supreme Court is going to be an issue, even those people that held their new know mike knows for trump, they will show up. If it seems like theres a chance that the democrats will block this nomination, thats not what democrats want. Dana indeed are probably not. Matt bennett and lauren jones, thank you. The acting director of i. C. E. Will join our own neil cavuto on your world today. That comes right after President Trumps ceremony honoring i. C. E. Officers at the white house. With less than 100 days until the Midterm Elections and Many Americans were weary of political partisanship, thirdparty candidates are mapping out their own plan. It is not about what is the best thing for the Republican Party or the democrat party. They are talking about what is best for people. Feel the clarity. And live claritin clear. Dana in an era of hyper political partisanship and a growing number of unsatisfied voters, independent candidates from around the country gathered in denver this past weekend to map out their plans ahead of the elections. At the summit was put on by unite america, they call themselves nonpartisan and are dedicated to getting independence elected. Part of the strategy is to endorse candidates who it says are viable but also bringing money to the table. 3 million so far into state legislative races, governorships and the u. S. Senate. Independence for the most part dont get what democrat and republican nominees get with that big party muscles. Unite america says it helps with all that. Just a small handful of independence and closely divided legislatures can make a really big difference because they can deny both parties and out right the majority. They can use their power to force greater cooperation and compromise between both sides. Greg gorman, the independent gubernatorial candidate running in kansas hopes to benefit from voters frustrated with her own party. There are more independence in kansas than there are democrats. Independents can appeal to disaffected republicans. Its all about the turnout though, whichever side is able to strew their base and thats what makes it extra tough for candidates without a party. Midterm years are challenging, and thats because about a third fewer people vote. Guess who is least likely to vote in a Midterm Election year . You guessed it, the independentminded builder. The nonpartisan. Dana, currently more than two dozen independent serve in statelevel offices and the u. S. Senate. Dana may be more to come in future years. As students head back to school, more and more families are taking steps to cover the risk involved in paying for college.
