Alive. The Peace Process will be on the front burner. King abdullah recently reaffirming his belief that it needs to be a twostate solution. The president has said one state, two state, doesnt matter as long as both sides were involved. Israel and the palestinians agree to it. Last week abdullah met as he pulls up in the s. U. V. , met with Jared Kushner. Jason greenblat in jordan about the prospect of piece. The president shaking hands with King Abdullah there. Lets listen in. Dana that is King Abdullah and queen rania meeting the first lady, Melania Trump and President Trump there with her there for their first visit to the United States since President Trump became president. They will have a meeting in the oval office. We expect press coverage in the oval office meeting. Well bring that live. Lots for these two leaders to discuss from everything from the middle east piece plan and including hundreds and thousands of not just Palestinian Refugees over the years but of course the Syrian Refugees that fled to jordan to find some sort of peace. Theyre being held mostly in camps in jordan. Yes. Theres always the issue of the right of return of refugees to the now occupied territories as well. Is that part of a peace plan or is it not . Clearly isis, syria, all of that involved in the discussions. Where i left off, Jared Kushner met with Benjamin Netanyahu over the weekend. They talked about a humanitarian process in gaza that will provide for israels security. All of these are building blocks. The white house expected to release a frame work for peace in a few weeks. The president continues to be focused on immigration with the house planning on taking up the immigration bill tomorrow. The president tweeting that he doesnt like the idea being floated by some members of congress by upping the member of judges to adjudicate claims. The president says people have to be stopped at the border and children brought back to their country. If its done, illegal immigration will be stopped in its tracks and at a very little cost. This is the only real answer and we must continue to build the wall. The president saying hiring judges is not the answer. He says what you need to do is stop these people before they actually come in to the country. Over the weekend, the president getting support from the former dhs secrety, jay johnson, who increased the capacity to house families during that border crisis 2013 to 2015. Listen to what jay johnson said. We believed it was necessary at the time. I still believe its necessary to have a capabilities for families. We cant have catch and release. We returned over a million people. The president said on multiple occasions, we cant have catch and release. The president reminding people in a tweet this morning this was a problem during the Obama Administration and the president writing such a difference in the Media Coverage of the same immigration policy between the Obama Administration and ours. Actually, weve done a better job in that our facilities are cleaner and better run than facilities under obama. Fake news is working overtime. Still no word from the judge in california, judge dolly gee as to whether or not shes going to allow the administration, particularly dhs, to continue to house children and their parents together for an extended period of time during their adjudication process. Dana well wait to hear about that. The president is going to travel to South Carolina tonight. What do you know about that . Hes going to have a rally for henry mcmaster, the incumbent governor of South Carolina who is in a tight runoff race. He took the lead in the primary. John warren came close, so theres a runoff tomorrow evening. Henry mcmaster, by the way, one of the earliest supporters of President Trump. The Vice President was there supporting him as well. The president tweeting well be heading to one of my favorite places, South Carolina, to fight for one of my original fighters, Governor Henry Mcmaster speaking at 7 00 p. M. Well have that live on the fox news channel. Dana . Dana wouldnt miss it. Thank you, john. As john mentioned, the president will be in South Carolina tonight holding a rally for governor mcmaster. One day before voters grow to the polls there and six other states. Im joined by Chris Stirewalt and the editor of half time report. Chris, the president has decided to do a couple of these rallies. Did one last week. Doing this today in South Carolina and another one thursday night in north dakota. So i want to get your take on that in terms of how useful it is and how effective it is and how unusual is it for a president to get involved in a runoff like this . Generally president s have avoided primaries entirely or do their best to stay as far away from them as they can because theyre oftentimes politically toxic spaces. Close quarters combat. Mcmasters in a different situation. This is a guy that was definitely the president said a charter member of team mega. He was pulling for trump when it wasnt cool even in South Carolina to pull for trump. So i think he feels like he owes him there, number 1. Number 2, he wants to have a dominance display. He helped run mark sanford out of congress. He did that there in the first round. Coming back, a little victory lap. Dana so why is john warren the guy that is running against mcmaster for the republican nomination, what sort of special sauce does he have that keeps him competitive in South Carolina . Look, in these runoffs, generally what happens mcmasters is in a different situation. He was elevated after nikki haley was reported to the u. N. He has the advantage of an incumbent but not all of them. What were looking for is in this case, youd imagine given the spread of the vote here that mcmasters should be able to take this over the finish line. Closer than he would have liked it to have been but looks like he has enough cushion that round two he can get it done. Dana good to hear that from your perspective. And then the issue of immigration. Listen to what President Trump said last week in nevada. Listen. I like the issue for election, too. Our issue is strong borders, no crime. Their issue is open borders, let ms13 all over our country. Thats whats going to happen if you listen to them. Dana one of the keys of politics, define your opponent and their positions early and often and the president is doing that. As the president describes it, you think how this issue will be framed for the upcoming midterm or is it too early too tell . Using social wedge issues like immigration immigration has a lot of issues like an economic issue, security. When we get down to it, it is a social wedge issue. When you use those, exploit those, it does work. It can work. Nothing motivates the Republican Base like immigration. More than half of republicans in a quinnipiac poll say they approved of separating families at the border. Theres a considerable support inside the Republican Party for this. If midterms are all about getting your base out, it will get the base out. Being in nevada and talking about the issues there, republicans have to remember, theres a counter response, too. The democratic enthusiasm, yes, the republicans can drive it up by focusing on immigration but juices democratic turnout, too. They have to be cognizant of that, especially in nevada. Dana and we had a chance to go to the Charles Krauthammer funeral yesterday. His son gave a moving tribute to his father. You tweeted about it and how it made you feel talking about politics going forward. Give me your thoughts. Im going to go see them today. I wasnt able to attend. I thought i saw you there in the back. Some other handsome guy dana ill tell you, i did have a chance to go. There were many people from fox there. People from all across charles life, from his synagogue and the support he had there, his wife, robin, read a psalm that was beautiful. But it was Daniel Krauthammer that is a spinning image of his father. And a great writer. Dana just the vast knowledge and as he said, his fathers intellectual horsepower. If anybody had a chance to see the amazing fox special that ran over the weekends, it was an hour long put together here at fox news. Brian gaffney was an editor of it. Its one of the best hours ive seen on fox news. If you havent had a chance to look at it, watch it with your children and maybe well get another airing. 100 . I agree with you. If we can all speak with as much dignity and caring and honesty as charles did and daniel living out now, this would be a very fine place to live indeed. Dana well do our best. Chris stirewalt, thank you. You bet. Dana President Trump welcomes the king and queen of jordan to the white house. And syria and mideast peace topping the agenda. Dana harleydavidson is feeling the sting of a growing trade dispute. The Company Announcing they will move some jobs over seas to avoid a 31 tariff inposed by the european union. At the same time, u. S. Tariffs on steel and aluminum could mean higher prices for raw materials. Harleys stock dropping as fears of a trade war spooks investors. Maryann marsh is a principle at dewey square group. Republicans, trump in particular, picked up blue collar voters in the rust belt. Harleydavidson make a lot of their bikes there in wisconsin, a state that Hillary Clinton neglected. Is this an issue, the trade issue, where democrats might find their way back into the good graces of Blue Collar Workers . They could. These are some of the best paying jobs for Blue Collar Workers that exist in the country. Instead you have them moving their manufacturing abroad because trumps actions have added 2,200 to every harleydavidson motorcycle. What is always been interesting to me, it will cost jobs and hurt families, republicans have been very good at getting people to vote against their own economic interests. You will hear some of these people, some of the folks at harleydavidson and others say donald trump had to do this and im okay with it. Youre hearing that from farmers in iowa that are getting devastated by these actions in pork, corn and soy beans going to mexico, canada and china. The vast majority of them think trump had to do it. Dana and theyre patient. They say hes the deal maker. They know what hes doing. What i have heard is that theyre hoping it can get done quickly, especially for farmers. You have to plan and the longterm contracts get expensive. If you figure youre not going to make good on them. So they have about six weeks. You think democrats on the stump are focused enough on trade and could they bring anybody back . Trade, as i understand it, is the republicans are for free trade. Especially in manufacturing jobs. Thats a great opportunity for democrats. Look at the more moderate democrats. The best campaigns are locally. Theyll offer their version of bringing back manufacturing, taking down tariffs and taking down the trade war. This is the tip of the iceberg. When you look at what happens here, this will be devastate across the midwest and a huge opportunity for democrats to flip seats there. Dana the other topic from the weekend, its incredibly unfortunate. Take a have a Maxine Waters tweet from nancy pelosi. Her response to representative Maxine Waters calling on trumps cabinet to be heckled and harassed. She said in the crucial months ahead, we must strive to make america beautiful again. Trumps daily lack of civility has provoked responses that are predictable but unacceptable. As we do forward, we have to conduct elections from sea to shining sea. President trump said that congressman Maxine Waters has to come together with nancy pelosi the face of the democratic party. Shes called for harms of supporters of the make America Great again movement. Be careful what you wish for, max. And maybe the democrats trying to cool the tensions, if that can be done. In some quarters, it can be done. More moderate democrats running arent going to take that approach. You hear nancy pelosi even saying we shouldnt take this approach. Be clear. Maxine waters wasnt wishing harm on anyone. You might interpret trumps tweet differently. In a lot of quarters, democrats believe they should stand up to donald trump and hold people and in his administration accountable. For most people running, they wont approach this. On this topic, its a National Issue now. People oppose the fact that children were separated and a lot of candidates will oppose that and ask for immigration reform. Dana you think its bigger than that . Its not the immigration. Somebody like maxine water has decided this is the best strategy. I want to get to this ad. M. J. Hager is a woman running in texas. Shes a veteran, a democrat, running against an incumbent republican. Take a look at this ad. One of those closed stores was my congressman. John carter. Being a veteran and a constituent wasnt good enough for a meeting. I guess i needed to be a donor. He hasnt had a tough race his entire career. Well show him tough and then the door. Dana i watched that ad. Were coming up on 1 1 2 minutes before President Trump speaks. So i want to can you, for Something Like m. J. Hager a great recruit for the democrats, should she be hand strung by someone like Maxine Waters that gets National Attention . No. She will run campaigns and showing difference in her life how she conducted it and the door she opened. Thats one of the best ads period. I would add amy mcgraph to that. She showed what she did with her life. Thats the way to tackle these issues. Dana you heard Chris Stirewalt say in the quinnipiac pole, a majority of republicans say maybe its not that they support family separation but they understand that its necessary because of what the law said or the situation. Republicans, yes. I understand that. But where elections with won, not on the democratic side, the republicans will turn out the bases. Its independent voters and women in particular. Maryann, thanks for being here. Were going to have in just a moment President Trump meeting with King Abdullah in the oval office. They had a lot to talk about. The palestinian issue, number 1 and jordan is taking care of hundreds of thousands of refugees from around the world. Its not a rich country and they need aid and support. Im sure that he talked about that with President Trump. Lets listen. Its a great honor to have the king and queen of jordan with us. Theyre friends. Weve known each other for quite a while. Long before this. But you have done an incredible job on the refugees and the camps and taking care of people. I just want to say while our nations have a very good relationship, we now have a great relationship with job you do on a humanitarian basis is fantastic. Id like to thank you. Sir, if i can thank you and the United States and the people of america for all the support youve given our country. If the rest of the world had a little bit of your humility and your grace to help us, wed be in a better position. If it wasnt for the United States on behalf of myself and my people, thank you for all you have done. Remember he used the word humility with respect to me. Im happy. Probably the nicest compliment ive been given in a long time. The job you do is fantastic. Yes, we do, we spend a lot of money. People dont do the job that you do. I want to thank you very much. Thank you. Okay. Thank you very much. The executive order was great. It was something that i felt we had to do. We want children staying together. The law has been this law for a long period of time. You would understand this better than most because of the great job you do in your country. There was a false story, fake news in the new york times. The opposite. I wanted to sign that. I said this before i saw the fake story in the new york times, that i was very happy that i signed that. It also it shows were all talking about humanity, whether its what youre doing in jordan or what were doing here, the laws are obsolete, the laws are horrible having to do with the border in terms of security and taking care of people. President obama had a big problem. A lot of the pictures used they how old the i dont know what you folks did. You used pictures from 2014. They were taken during the Obama Administration. The Bush Administration had the same. Its the same laws. Theyre a disaster. The laws have to be changed. Whether its north korea or whether its so many Different Things like trade, were taking care of a lot of problems that should have been taken care of over the years. One of the highest on the list is immigration. We have to change our laws. We have to make them sensible. They came in to see me last week. They said we would like to hire 5,000 more judges. 5,000. You ever hear of a thing like that . Judges. Were appointing 145 judges here. Everyone goes through this extreme vetting process. 5,000. Where do you find 5,000 people to be judges . You know what it leads . It leads to a lot of things. We want a system where when people come in illegally, they have to go out. Nice simple system that works. Mexico holds people for four hours, for five hours, for two hours and theyre gone. We have people for four or five, six years and they never leave. So we want to have a great immigration. What we have is very simple. We want strong borders and we want no crime. Strong borders, no crime. The democrats want open borders and they dont care about crime. And they dont care about our military. I care about our military. Thats what we want and thats what were going to get. Were going to get it sooner than people think. Thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you very much. Thank you. When do you want to release the middle east peace plan . I can only say this. Were doing well in the middle east, a lot of progress has been made. A lot. It started were the end of the horrible iran deal. That deal was a disaster. Things are different since we ended that. A lot different. Thank you very much. Thank you. Dana all right. That was President Trump and the first lady with queen rania and King Abdullah of jordan. Talking about the middle east peace plan, the refugee situation. King abdullah saying President Trump should be considered humble. He says he wishes other leaders had such humility. The president taking note of that and giving a little bit of a chuckle. The toughest job at the white house might be the press wrangler getting the press out. Well bring your more details on that. The president taking a little time to talk about immigration. He says hes for strong borders and no crime and the democrats want the opposite. Right now were getting a rare look inside a border shelter where Migrant Children are being held. Were live at the border next. Come here, babe. Ok. Nasty nighttime heartburn . Try new alkaseltzer pm gummies. The only fast, powerful heartburn relief plus melatonin so you can fall asleep quickly. Oh, what a relief it is for yealike me, someed dogs for tof these dogs have seen many tours of duty. And for the past 15 years ive been a navy federal member. Thanks to their fast approval process, when it came time to buy a new car, we got everything we needed to transport my wifes little bundle of joy. Who i just adore. Open to the armed forces, the dod, veterans and their families. Navy federal credit union. Dana all eyes on the border. The president commenting moments ago on the situation there. Jeff paul came out of one of the facilities just a second agowith imMigrant Children are being held. Hes live in tornillo, texas. Jeff, what did you see . Dana, weve been out here the last week or so. We wanted to go into the tent facility to see what is going on. So far we havent had access. Today was the first chance that we got to go inside this facility to see what life is like. The kids in there ages 1217, mostly boys, my First Impression is very orderly. Almost militarylike. The kids im not saying military in terms of somebody being ordereded to do things. Very structured. One of the other points, this is an emergency nonpermanent shelter put in place according to the organizers here and the people that set this up because of this zero tolerance policy. They had to make room for the kids. They have get three meals a day. Ten bunk beds. 20 kids per tent. The other thing i noticed, we werent allowed to talk to the kids but makes you realize theyre kids in theyre. Drawings pinned to the wall. Books in their beds. So they like to play soccer, a lot of kids playing soccer, a short while ago, the head the spokesperson from hhs, we spoke to him and we asked him about the reaction about the criticism the care these kids are getting. Take a listen. This country, one of the great things about it, everybody has their opinion. They can voice their opinion. They can protest. They can make what their thoughts are. We also have the opportunity and responsibility to come educate as well. You know, its an opportunity to help educate the public about what the program is and what it isnt. So people can be better informed. Really know that this country is taking care of children. Were not going to let them die in the desert. The private contractor that was hired to run this facility told us off the record but told us we could report this, that he believed that zero tolerance policy he said in regards to illegal immigration, this will not stop the issue moving forward. Dana . Dana thank you so much. Joining me now, lawrence jones, conservative commentator, a former Communications Director for governor john corzine. Good to have you here. Thank you. Dana one of the issues that President Trump just brought up in the oval office, his frustration with this idea that the government needs to get bigger, we need more Immigration Judges because one of the things hes frustrated with, why should they have hearings heres judge napolitano explaining how the law and the constitution works however frustrating it might be. Once they do enter the action, once theyre on american soil, that due process right attaches because it pertains to all persons. Citizen, not citizen, lawfully here. If the president could, if mexico would allow him put american agents on the mexican side of the border and not let people in, theres no due process issue. Once theyre on american soil, once they set foot on american soil, theyre entitled to due process. Steve, im familiar with this issue because of the questions back during the Bush Administration about whether the detainees at gitmo, captured on the battlefield should have been brought to the United States. We maintained no, they should not because if they do, they get all of these other accommodations that the constitution affords them. Your thoughts. Yeah, its not accommodations. Its the constitution. You have due process when youre charged with a crime. If you were to stop that, it would be disastrous. You could get arrested for anything. You would be thrown in jail and sent to jail for a year. So look, what is amazing, its incredibly divided county. Its uniting right and left when you have judge napolitano saying this is a bad idea. Dana hes a legal scholar. And republicans last week on the hill that forced the president s hand because they were going to pass legislation to stop this because its so political. Dana what do you think of the idea of wonder if mexico would agree . No. Dana you live in texas. I just moved to d. C. But im from texas. Its funny how when you look at the beltway and the people in the political circles and how they take it, people back home. Not just from the black community but people that live in texas. They look at this issue totally different. Dana tell me. They see the president and how frustrated he is about this. What the president also has to understand is that the constitution is going to be his greatest weapon. Not only from a legal standpoint but politically. He can say look, we sent these judges down here and we have to send them back. Thats what the judges say. I would encourage those people in washington to listen to the constituents. There seems to be a lot of selective outrage when it comes to separating children from their families. Theres a lot of american citizens, my Community Felt it on the war on drugs. They were separated from their families. Those people would say, hey, we did what is best for our family. Selling drugs to provide. Still breaking the law. Democrats have to be cautious of that as well. What i think, the issue is its bad and politically disastrous solution in search of a problem. You had apprehensions at their highest at the beginning of the Bush Administration, double now and we started to cult down because there was better enforcement. There was better forcement under the Bush Administration and the Trump Administration and the Obama Administration. Apprehensions went down. For some reason, the president decided to talk about zero tolerance policy and started this practice of separating but hes also separating children from their families in a mass way. The parents make that decision. You have to give the president credit and send 2,000 kids lets be clear. Not another republican president would be able to give amnesty again after reagans policy. A lot of the Republican Base were so upset that they got amnesty and not border security. Dana President Trump is offering a lot. But steve, isnt i know the democrats and theres many people that arent for the wall. But from a costeffective standpoint, from a humanitarian standpoint, if you dont want to follow the law and separate children if the parents break the law and you have to separate the children, then wouldnt it be smart for the democrats to just give President Trump some money in order to help build the wall that he wants . I think so. Im not a traditional democrat in that sense. Ive always thought that good immigration policy is both Smart Technology and human enforcement at the border and immigration form reform laws inside the border so youre a practical democrat. Theres people here that want to stay here and they can get in line and become u. S. Citizens. Is there a technology that you can do to make it stronger . Yes. Unfortunately what the president is doing is creating a dynamic of black versus white. 100 versus nothing. Build a big beautiful wall and mexico will pay for it that wont happen. Dana should we swallow that argument and pay for it . We definitely should. The different from him being a practical democrat, hes not running for office. Its very clear the democrats want to run on this issue. This is why they shut down the government on this issue. A lot of these same democrats have the same policy position before. So now with an election coming up, they see that they can get some new voters. Im not saying they dont dana no, i can close my eyes and back in 2007 with that debate that ended up failing. Lawrence and stephen, thank you. Thank you. Dana a new warning for College Grads seeking relief from student loans. The Education Department reports that seven million borrowers owe 7 billion. Thats coming up the top of the hour on Shepard Smith reporting. See you then. Dana think you have a bad commute . Not like this guy. A jersey city man who is paddle boarding across the hudson river to get to his job in manhattan. Scott holt wearing the suit as he played the trek across the water. He said the trip took a half an hour and he made it in time for his morning meeting. Authorities could not recommend this commuting to others. Pretty brave. You can call it a sign of the times. Teens going through life on social media. The anonymity can give cover to those that spread hate and belittle others. My next guest is a best selling author. Her new book is a fictional account of what social media can do to real life relationship. Elaine giffin joins me. So glad to be here. Im a big fan of yours. Dana i found this book to be different. Felt like it had a message to send to parents and teens. What were you trying to do . Like my eight books before this, its relationship driven. So i didnt set out to convey a message. The issues of sexism, classism, racism, its such a part of our conversation, this is about a woman who is forced to choose between her values and her life. Dana and theres different races and theres tensions theres because a love story and the mean girls that get involved. For sure. I think that the thing about social media that you have to teach your children, dont you think its sort of about being apathetic. Social media is here to stay and mean girls will be means whether theyre on their phone or not. Its about putting yourself in someone elses shoes. I felt like i did that by writing from three different viewpoints. Dana so when you have friends i dont have children so i dont have to worry about it directly. But do you hear theres rising anxiety about social media . For sure. I have three, twin 14yearold sons and a 11yearold daughter. Yes, especially with the 14yearold, its more and more something to talk about. We have a litmus test that you can pick someone and how would you feel if pastor simmons said this . Its helpful. Its not necessarily the solution. Theres still nuance things that arrive. Dana tell me about your writing process. Where do you like to write . A lot of quiet or just a complete den. I like writing in airports, believe it or not and coffee shops. I have an office. My process is very character driven. So i came up with these three characters. A woman, a single father a teenage girl and try to get in their heads and try to replicate the messiness of life. Life is so complicated. We want things to be neat and easy and right and most of us are good people. Yet we somehow get off course. My character gets off course so i get off course. Its relatable. I have it in the polls from pugh that the teen smart phone ownership across the country for 1317, 90 of teens have a smart phone or access to one. Universal use. 45 of teens say theyre online nearly constant. Are you a mother that worried about that . Like screen time or are you in the camp of not worry about it . Im somewhere in between. Social media and are phones are part of our lives. Its not going away. Its how the kids communicate to not give them phones is to say youre not communicating in 2018 with everyone else. So its more about teaching responsibility and getting them to take a break from it and interact with friends in other ways and not just on their phones. Its really a balance. Dana the other thing is i feel like theres a resurgence and books and people being interested in books and reading books. Youre going to write no matter what. This will be a best seller as your others have been. Do you find that, too . People are wanting to find an escape or to learn with books . I think youre right. For a while, we were really worried as writers and publishers and whats going on. It swings back. The world has a way of equalizing itself in that respect. Yeah, i have never read on an e reader ever. So theres people that are always going to the hard cover of the paper books. Dana when you do the audio book, do you have a hand in that, in who will read it . I consult. I leave it to the experts. Dana im a big fan of barbara bush. She recently passed.
