From the white house. We knew President Trump was planning to do this, we just didnt know when and about two hours ago he made it official a. He often does on twitter. He said it is my great honor to announce general Michael Flynn has been granted a full pardon, congratulations toam general fln and his wonderful family, i know you will have a truly fantastic thanksgiving. He pleaded guilty to lying to the fbi about his contacts with then russian ambassadorad sergey kislyak, it was one of the first courtroom victories for special counsel robert mueller, about a year ago he tried to withdraw the guilty plea, his attorneys argued he had been entrapped by people t like fired fbi agent peter strzokr and then in sprin, attorney general bill barr tried to have the case against him dismissed. He accused peter strzok of setting up a perjury trap, a charge at the time peter strzok dismissed as ludicrous. Democrats are furious, congressman adam schiff said in response donald trump has repeatedly abused the pardonen power to reward friends and protect those who covered up for him, the stumpy he parted Michael Flynn who lied at the heights dealings with the russians come its no surprise that trump would go out as he came in, crooked to the end. Todays pardon brings to an end a years worth long battle for the retired lieutenant general, he was one o one of the people identified as a potential threat way back in the summer of 2016 when the fbi first open that counterintelligence investigation into the Trump Campaign which was codenamed crossfire hurricane, another one of those people, Paul Manafort who has also talked about potentially receiving a pardon before the president leaves office and if so is roger stone who n was granted clemency but t a full pardon over the summer. While President Trump was tweeting about this pardon, his legal s team has been in pennsylvania. The state certified the Election Results yesterday but today a judge issued an order ordering that certification the fulfillment of that a certification be delayed until another hearing on friday but Pennsylvania Democratic attorney general says it is a done deal and he putut out a statement tht reason todays order does not impact yesterdays appointment of electors for joe biden. Mike Kristin Fisher starting us off from the north lawn, many thanks. Lets get more on the pardon of Michael Flynn and a reaction from the Justice Department, corresponded davids pond joins us this evening. Good evening to you, the Justice Department all the way up to attorney general bill barr wanted the Michael Flynn case dropped out, it was unique in that instant spirit of fox news received a statement from a doj official not long ago, i want to read it in part, it is separated into three different parts. It sayst the department was not consulted, we were given a headsup today. Second, we would prefer to see if judge sullivan were to act and the matter to be resolved in court, we are confident in the likelihood of our success in thb case, that being said, this is obviously an appropriate use of the president s pardon power. Until the pardon, this was an active case, judge emmetyn sullivan heard about why they wanted to drop the case of someone who pled guilty twice to lying to the fbi, sullivan was set to rule any day now and weve heard a lot about Sidney Powell from the election but shesfl been with Michael Flynn after he fired his first attorney earlier this fall. She personally asked President Trump not to pardon general flynn hoping that he would get off on his own. A part and it is, this is a power the present will only have for a few more months as he iss in office but what has always made this case so unique is the fact that you have the prosecution and the defense on the same side is saying they wanted to drop this case, the department of justice saying they wanted to go to the process with the judgment ultimately they got their wish granted tonight. This case is now over. Mike david spent tanks a lot. Also breaking tonight, we are experiencing anything but a normal thanksgiving holiday this year, the death toll from the coronavirus is now more than 260,000 with almost 12. 7 million infectionsor. Even of the centers for Disease Control and prevention has urged americans not to travel, millions are disregarding that recommendation. That means the biggest crowds at airports since the pandemic began. Charles watson is in atlanta tonight, good evening. Good evening, Overall Airlines are expected to see about 50 less traffic at this year compared to last year, fewer people but still alarming for Public Health officials who are pleading with americans toio stay home as Coronavirus Infections continue to skyrocket out of. Control. More than 4 Million People have filed through airportid checkpoints across the nation since friday, for some its the first time on a plane since the pandemic began. I havent seen my stepmom since my dad passed away, i thought i would get away for seven days. I think there is a scary thing at first and now the pandemic, around ten months later, people are starting to care less about it. As more americans choose to travel but despite cdc guidance to stay home, some cities and states are ramping up efforts to control the virus spread and in los angeles, everyone coming through an airport will have to sign a form acknowledging californias recommended 14 day quarantine. L. A. s mayor says its necessary because at the current rate of covid19 cases, the nations secondlargest city will be out of hospital beds by christmas. Emergencies and essential work travel should be the only excuse to get on a plane a anywhere. The new york Sheriffs Office is adding checkpoints to enforce its quarantine. We are going to bepl monitorg people, if theyre not in quarantine when theyre supposed to be we have to apply penalties. Oregon Governor Kate Brown posted a video urging oregonians to uninvited somehi of theiror thanksgiving guests, while governors of maryland and pennsylvania promised a more visible Police Presence plus citations and fines in an effort to clamp down on potential superspreader gatherings. If we all do this together, we are going to defeat this virus. In vermont, the governor warning students not to attend any thanksgiving event this weekend with people outside of their immediate family. If they do, it will be mandatory least aearning for at week when school is back in session. Mike the democratic mayor of denver is taking heavy criticism tonight, Michael Hancock flew to mississippi to spend the holiday with family after telling his constituents to stay home. There is also major controversy tonight in Southern California over a policy that could cost countless jobs here at a correspondent jeff paul shows us tonight from santa monica, california. After urging people from denver not to fly for the thanksgiving holiday, it appears the mayor they are did just that, mayor Michael Hancock took a flight this morning from denver to mississippi to be with his family for the thanksgiving holiday, a Communications Director didnt respond to fox when we reached out for anhe explanation but a spokesperson did confirm the trip and say the mayor would quarantine once hes back. It was on friday when the mayork told folks in denver to not do what he just did. Im asking, im merging come on pleading with everyone, just stay home. Please only go out for essential services. Stay home, may be put holiday decorations, but stay home. The mayor pleading to stay at home is much as you can and avoid travel. In Los Angeles County setting a surge in covid cases, the healt1 departments ban on Outdoor Dining goes into effectt tonight at 10 00 p. M. , they still can do to goon orders but businesses wont make money and a lot of people might lose hours and some lose jobs. One restaurant manager said they could be forced to lay off as d much as 50 of their staff. I dont know what to do, we are following all the safety protocols all this time and we are trying to do all of our best to keep the place open and running. A lawsuit was filed to keep all of this outdoor seating up and running, a judge denied that request to overturn the band but did tell the plaintiffs if they brought substantial evidence he would look at the case again. Mike extremely tough times for the restaurant industry. Joe biden said the presidency would not be a third obama term and he wouldnt use the Justice Department to go after his predecessor. Correspondent peter doocy reports tonight from wilmington, delaware, where he made his thanksgiving address. Right now, the president elect is motor catering to the whole Rehoboth Beach where he plans to forgo family traditions and celebrate a socially distanced thanksgiving with just three other people as he looks ahead and tries to figure out ways to make the u. S. Government a lot more hands on fighting covid19. More testing, well find people with cases and get them away from one another, slowing the number of infections. Warnings for weeks about the dangers of a delayed transition. C lack of access to current classified operations, really put the American Peoples interest as it relates to National Security at risk. Officials say that Daily Briefing can wait. We expect the first briefing to take place on monday. And even though his cabinet will be filled with Obama White House alumni. Obamas book promo into the disk criticism of his panics and voted trump. The fact that trump says racist things about mexicans, they think that is less important than the fact that he supports their views on gay marriage or abortion. Immigration reform is something he plans to address in his first 100 days. I will send an immigration bill to the United State Senate with the pathway to citizenship for 11 million undocumented people in america. Is also hinting Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are long shots for cabinet spots. Taking someone out of the senate, taking someone out of the house, particularly of personal consequence is really a difficult decision that would have to be made. His more immediate goals to t try to get people to take personal responsibility this holiday. We are at war with the virus, not with one another. Joe biden barely ever spoke about Michael Flynn as a candidate but remember earlier this year he claimed he had no knowledge of a criminal investigation into phlegm and even he found out on trumps inauguration day, susan rice wrote a memo detailing a meeting she was and where president obama said he wanted the flynn matter handled byaw Law Enforcement agencies by the book and she listed one of the participants in that meeting as being joe biden. Peter doocy life in wilmington, thanks a lot. There are still nine uncalled races in the house, one of those is in new york 22nd district where republican candidate Claudia Tenney is blaming Governor Andrew Cuomo for the slow pace of the account. A judge has pause the process until next week. Republicans lead in all the undecided races so far including five in w new york, two and california which would give the g. O. P. Four flips in that state, and one each in louisiana andow iowa. The balance of power right now has democrats with 222 and republicans with 204. The second recount of georgias president ial vote is underway o tonight, also this evening an unusual invitation from one of theat republicans fighting to sy in the senate, correspondent Steve Harrigan has the update from atlanta. That president ial recount ise underway in georgia, its a machine recount scheduled to be finished by december 2nd. This is the third time the president ial votes will be counted in georgia. Officials say they dont expect any changes from a joe biden lead of v about 12,000 votes, tt vote has already been certified by georgias governor. The two Senate Runoff elections are scheduled for january 5th, they could determine who controls the senate. Weve seen a string of highprofile visitors here in georgia to campaign for each side, david perdue says he welcomes the presence of liberal democrats campaigning for his opponent. I would buy her a ticket. What she says is profound, she says we have to win at those two seats in georgia because we do not want to negotiate. Joh jon ossoff said the only thing republicans have to offer a negative campaign ads. The two republican incumbents arent running any positive ads. The g. O. P. Has no leader, has no vision, and has no agenda except spreading fear and ensuring that joe biden fails. More than 270 million have already been spent here and mor. Than 700,000 people have requested absentee ballots, that is three times as many requests as two years ago. Back to you. Mike hot spot of american politics atlanta, georgia, many thanks. President elect biden is getting criticism from progressives over some of his administrations staffing selections. When hee announced his National Security team, there was one glaring omission, his defense secretary. Jennifer griffin has details tonight. The oddson favorite has long been Michelle Flournoy a wellknown establishment defense policy expert known for her hardnosed realism and partisan support. She would break the ultimate Glass Ceiling becoming the first female secretary of defense. I didnt clearly likes her, and 2016 as she introduceddd him, he addressed the rumor that Hillary Clinton planned to pick her for the top pentagon job. These traits make him the ideal candidate keynote for us to hear from him today. Madam secretary i mean [laughter] [cheers and applause] im writing a recommendation for her. T she held the number three spot at the pentagon during the Obama Administration and has been described as instrumental in pushing then defense secretary robert gatessa to support the usama bin laden raid when he preferred an air strike. She hinted at plans to strike Irans Nuclear program. I can assure you, the pentagon planning for this is incredibly robust. When asked what President Trump got right on foreign policy. I think we needed to open our eyes to a more competitive situation with a rising china. Her ties to the Defense Industry having established a Consulting Firm with antony blinken, bidens choice for secretary of state, has put her in the crosshairs of progressives and the members of the Congressional Black Caucus who want a more diverse pick. Also on bidens shortlist is a jeh johnson president obamas former dhs secretary, he was general counsel during the usama bin laden raid and lead the task force that recommended thet repeal of dont ask, dont tell. He t recently spoke at liberty l university and outlined what america should expect from its leaders. Too often politicians pay no price for a lie or even a crime. Instead we conveniently overlook the bad behavior by saying i like his policies are the economy is doing great. He served in the board of lockheed martin, president elect biden is indicated he will announce his choice next tuesd tuesday. Mike thanks very much. Pete hegseth is cohost of fox and Friends Weekend and author of the new book modern warriors, it is the first of a series of books in the fox news imprint many of the people you see on this very channel. He joins us this evening. Thanks for having me. Mike an excerpt from a tired Army Ranger Cap and sean parnell half of my life weve been at. War, thats all weve known, yet most of america has no concept of what it means to fight in a war or defend freedom frat all. To me, thats very problematic. Your thoughts on that point. We want to bring people inside war, the human side of it. These 15 individuals are a w perfect example of that. We might do a three and a half minute segment with a green beret or an army ranger and it just doesnt do it justice. On fox nation i have a show modern warriors where we do long form conversations, grab a beer, talk real about combat and they get candid and raw and theres always some humor, thatw is what is in this book too. Talk to me about when the bullets are flying in that helicopter is about to land, what are your fears, what are your hopes, what are your anxieties, how do you manage sacrifice coming home and the disconnect between how the eecountry might feel back here i versus what that brotherhood is there is tension that you just alluded to within the book and these guys speak very honestly about it and i think folks will be motivated to. What youre watching right now as part of our series on fox nation, sometimes we go out and shoot guns too. Mike take a listen to this Army Sergeant major who served three tours in iraq. We were attacked within about 48 hours of being on the ground, attacked from three different directions. The thing i could say the most, i couldnt be any more proud of how my soldiers performed that day taking care of each other during a very difficult situation. Mike what about that bond of Service Members who are asked to carry out these Dangerous Missions putting their lives on the line . Its the deepest brotherhood ive ever seen. Eric garrison was my First Sergeant in a rack, an amazing warrior, i knew he had to be part of this book come on the next tour he got a silver star for his actions. He made sure his men fortified that base, and they were able to repel the attack. He is beloved by every single one of them because theyre convinced they would not have come out without First Sergeant eric garrity, its stories like that and men like that, we talked about the 1 in politics, these guys are the real 1 , the ones who said ill write a checl in full for my life because i love this nation and these brothers so much. I think people will be motivated by hearing from these modern american heroes american heroes. Mike dan crenshaw, retired navy seal says living a duty means having a duty from those who arent able to complete their mission because they would want you to keep going. They would want you to live with a purpose. That is a message for civilians, a message for veterans, what about that burden of living your life when your military brother or sister did to get come home . They always talk about the men that never came home, they live with then burden of living worthy of that sacrifice, finding that next chapter or purpose, these are purposeful men. They joined for a reason because they love this country, transition heart and they talk t about the dark moments of coming back to the civilian world and being able o to fulfill that net chapter or purpose. Obviously congressman crenshaw has done that but a lot of these guys have in different ways, they are improving their community, continuing to fight for our republic, these are fascinating men and women and you will meet them in these pages. Mike former Army Special Forces Lieutenant Colonel scott man, when you take the meeting out of a humans life, we die and we just cannot operate without purpose. I worry about that today, i see so many warriors coming home and are justmbers who disconnected from their purpose and disconnected from their personal narrative which is just as bad what about life after combat, life after service for these warriors . Its amazing how often it came up in the book. They reflect on those splitsecond moments on the battlefield but they quickly move to and i had no idea how to bring it home, its nick irving, a sniper in the army rangers, so proficient at killing the enemy, everyone wanted him to cover their position. Heos came home and said how do i put the reaper away . That was an important part of my life, now i want to do more he is and youll read about than transition in the book. Mike sounds like a fascinating read, i look forward to gettinghe through the whole book, many thanks and happy thanksgiving. Thank so much for the time, happy thanksgiving to you. Coronavirus lockdowns and restrictions we will discuss with theic panel, beyond our borders tonight. But only if he thinks its in his interest, there are others thatng live for him that hes nt going to extend that kind of service to. But its reflecting so ill on our democracy and the united states, imagine what people around the world think when we have a president whos acting like an organized crime figure. A useful end to an ugly moment and the only person i think was going to be angry about this is judge sullivan who from some reason it is not following the dictates of the Justice Department that said we want to withdraw the action altogether. Mike we know former National Security advisor Michael Flynn was going to get a pardon, thats what our sources were telling us, the question was timing, the timing was this afternoon. Lets bring in our panel, jeff mase, susan ferruccio, and jason riley, wall street journal columnist the senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute right off the bat. Susan, your thoughts. I think what karl rove said was spot on, the behavior by judge Emmet Sullivan in this asse was bordering on bazaar where he refused to dismiss this case despite the fact that the Justice Department was refusing tocu prosecute it because there wasnt any evidence that flynn did anything wrong. The case from the getgo was so utterly questionable. He pled guilty to lying for something that wasnt a crime the fbi appeared to be highly politically motivated and going after general flynn. If anything, the wrongdoing was on the part of the government. This was a case where others may lefind objectionable reasons to complain about trumps pardons, this was a case where i think it was clear cut was targeted perhaps politically and there was never a real case against him. Mike jeff, your thoughts as someone who covered flynn as National Security advisor and are we looking at more pardons in the final days of this administration . To your second question i think the answer to that is yes, i was in touch with a couple former white house officials who said they absolutely expected to see more pardons. T this is an unfettered power of the president and president ial power that this president and not the only president enjoys using, hes got a couple months to do so. Expect to see more. Broadly on the decision about Michael Flynn, and the reaction to it, it just continues to show the divide over that issue and the rush of probe, you have democrats saying that this is an abuse of power by President Trump and you have the white house and its allies sang Michael Flynn should never have been prosecuted in the first place. Mike we have some handy stats we can put on the screen for you, lets start with President Trump and clemency, clemency is granted there you see it on the screen, 45 overall, 29 pardons, 16 commutations, o o president barack obama over 80 years, 1927 clemency is granted, 2112 pardons, 1715 commutations and president george w. Bush granting clemency 200 times, 189 pardons, 11 commutations. Jason, your thoughts. I would agree with what has been said. You can find a lot of fault with President Trump and the sum of the other uses of his pardon power, clemency power, but this i think is a clear example of someone getting railroaded and it was the right thing to do. Regardless of what you think of President Trump or Michael Flynn arid i think they were caught up in something bigger than both of them in this case, the fbi was duped by russia disinformation into investigating a president ial campaign. That is the big picture here. I think this is absolutely the right thing for President Trump to do in the case of Michael Flynn. Mike its also thanksgiving eve, usually when everybody and their brother is on the roads are on a plane or whatever going to moms, grgrandmas, et cetera, youve ao got some democratic officials included the mayor of denver taking someng heat for telling folks to stay home, meanwhile he got on a plane and went to mississippi. Tonight, the mayor of denver has issued an apology, lets put it on the screen saying as a public official who was conduct is rightly scrutinized for the message it sends to others, i apologize to the residents of denver tonf see my decision is conflicting with th the guidanco stay at home. He i made my decision as husband and father, i humbly ask you to forgive my decisions born of my heart, not my head. As long as they forgive other people who are doing the exact same thing, the government looks terrible in this situation, its similar to what happened in california when gavin newsom was out, 2125 plate gathering without Wearing Masks with Hospital Lobbyists while telling everybody else they needed to go home at 10 00. It doesntt sell. Calling it lockdown fever, people are tired of it all, luckily there are three americanmade vaccines with greater than 90 effectiveness readily available about to be distributed, this is all going toe end soon, the virus is weakening, these virus outbreaks are peaking, theyre going to decrease, hospitalizations are far lesses than they were in the spring, theres good news around the corner. Mike my relatives were going to come down from new york, they are not yourea thoughts on this travel gate. Its a really tough time for lots of people and families making decisions about whats right for them and how to handle this with obviously growing risk of coronavirus at thisro time. You get some mixed messages, you have some leaders pushing people not to get together, others who are making decisions themselves, the mixed messages has also been a part of this pandemic for the last ten months, you see a difference between what President Trumpay is saying that what president elect biden is saying, thats part of the narrative. Mike jason, quick comment from you on this issue. A lot of people have talked about the hypocrisy but what is noteworthy to me is how you see a lot of liberal democrats in blue states and blue areas of blue states also saying i dont care what the cdc says. I can take precautions, do this safely, i can weigh the cost and benefits and risks and to do this safely and im tired of thiss nanny state. We kneww conservatives were thee already,ot what is interesting s at lot of people on the left sem to be fed up with this paternalism going on and i dont blame them. Mike promised more time for you after the break, we will talk with the panel about the present electhe bidens first interview since the election. The Obama Administration failed to deliver immigration reformn which had been a key promise during the administration, also presided over record deportations as well as family detentions at the border before changing course, why should voters trust you with an immigration overhaul now. We made a mistake, it took too long to getok it right. Ill be president of the united states, not Vice President of the united states. Mike joe biden said his presidency will not be a third obama term, former president barack obama is expressing some frustration with latino voters. There are a lot of evangelical hispanics who the act that trump says racist things about mexicans or puts detainees undocumented workers in cages, they think that is less important than the fact that he supports their views on gay marriage or abortion. Mike we are back with our panel, jason since we cut you short on the other side, lets lead off with you. Immigration reform is tough. I think its going to need buy from both parties, that is going to be joe bidens problem, the American People seem on election day to have given democrats the white house but wanted congress to check him, both in the house by increasingu republican representation there and possibly in the senate depending on how these georgia runoff seats turn out to. I dont know that we can have amnesty alone thats going to sail through congress, that seems to be a bit of Wishful Thinking on the part of joe biden. In terms of obamas comments about hispanics, i think obamais seems little bit upset that hispanicamericans are to prioritizing what obama wants them to prioritize. We have to remember that hispanicamericans are not this monolithic group, there is no racial ethnic determinism among them. Venezuelans and cubans in florida are different from mexicans in south texas and so forth, we saw different voting patterns there and thats something that democrats are going to have to deal with, this is not a monolithic group, they have different priorities and they are going to have to go out and work for this vote. Mike in addition to covering every day of the trump administration, i remember you were there for every day of the yoObama Administration your thoughts on president obamase comments there and on president elect biden basically saying hes going to be his own guy. A couple things, former Vice President and president elect biden is going to be hise own guy come of coure he is he won the election with his running mate Kamala Harris and he gets to set the agenda when hes living in this house thats right behind me. As far as what president obama said, i think it reflects some frustration among democrats that they didnt have more support from some parts of the hispanic electorate. I think one of the big learning points from 2020 among many was as my colleague was just saying ay the latinolatino ve is very diverse and one party does not have a hold on it. Mike meanwhile, a lawmaker who wants to lead to the campaign arm of the House Democrats says time for a chan change. I would like to see the dccc change overnight to make sure that we have culturally competent, diverse staff, diverse vendors, Diverse Campaign consultants, diverse candidates all across the board and let them know this is your house. Mike we are up against the clock but your thoughts on what hes saying and on this broader topic.
