Some viewers. Good evening, steve. Good evening, 7,000 National Guard have helped keep the peace. But that is not the case everywhere. Peaceful protests in moments of reconciliation between police and marchers in many cities turned violent after dark. A Police Officer down on a new york sidewalk during mondays looting. One man and top of him, a secona third man the video is taken by passersby, some of whom. In st. Louis police data with looters, four are shot, one in the foot, one in the arm, the injuries are nonlife threatening, and the chief is emotional. Thankfully and thank god, buffalo, eight suv with two inside. Hitting three officers, shattered pelvis, broken leg, driver in custody. Las vegas, circus circus hotel, police try to disperse the crowd pelting them with rocks and bottles. One officer shot in the head on life support. This is a sad night for the family, with these protests leading to riots, one tragedy is only leading to another. Rocks, a stance into a Police Officer sending him air born into his second vehicle, landing in an intersection. Please helicopters gave chase. A Police Officer was hit by a car yesterday and appears to be purposeful. That is unacceptable. Shot at, unacceptable, that does not move us forward. Anyone who does that is a criminal. Rocks, bottles, guns, cars, used to attack police in the past 24 hours. In new york, nevada, missouri. The state has now filed a civil rights charge against the Minneapolis Police department. Bret Steve Harrigan live in minneapolis, thanks. To two protesters in minnesota are being charged with arson and possession of molotov cocktails tonight, the Justice Department says that they threw the firebombs at a government building. They have been ordered to remain in custody until a former potential hearing thursday. President trump is drawing severe criticism from democrats and some republicans, he is being taken to task for two visits to places of worship in the last 24 hours. One of which causing quite the controversy after protesters were pushed out of the park where the president walked just a short time later. You saw all of that live here on fox news. We have Fox Team Coverage tonight, kevin couric at the scene of last nights protests were hundreds of protesters gathering once again tonight, but first Christine Fisher at the white house with new information on what really went down last night on the north lawn. Moments ago the u. S. Park police put out a statement saying that no tear gas was used during that to push back of protesters in lafayette square. This time last night. Now democrats on capitol hill saying that those protesters were peaceful, but the park police saying that some processors protesters were combative and through projectiles forcing them to escalate. One day after Law Enforcement saying that the rubber bullets on protesters pave the way for President Trump to make this walk to st. Johns church, the president was back at another place of prayer, but this moment of remembrance was quickly followed by a scathing statement from the archbishop of washington who said i find it baffling and reprehensible that any catholic facility would allow itself to be so egregiously misused and manipulated. And today outside st. Johns church. We are here to repair. But Kellyanne Conway says President Trump has nothing to repent for. Why did he feel compelled to walk there. That is a symbol to everyone that we will not allow arsonists and anarchists who set the fire ablaze. According to a senior official, the decision to widen the perimeter around the white house was made early monday morning, but when attorney general bill barr arrived in lafayette square, the plan had not yet been executed. The official claims a protester through a water bottle at the attorney general, and thats when bill barr gave the order to push protesters back before President Trump walked out. Speak with the police did not respond other than moving the protesters back. But i thought what the president did and the church was not only appropriate, it was needed. Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer calls it unconstitutional, and abuse of president ial power and possibly illegal. The president of the United States ordered troops to attack peaceful american citizens, exercising their Constitutional Rights by tear gassing them at a public park while military helicopters through bret good evening, kevin. Good evening. Lots of chance justice now, and enough is enough. A black lives matter, we have heard these chance before, but tonight too there massive crowd here just to the north of Lafayette Park in the shadow of the white house and the washington monument, and of course the mall. We see a massive crowd at the intersection in part because a huge fence has been erected just along the north side of Lafayette Park. This particular fence is about eight, may be eight and a half feet high. It is black and stretches not to the entire length of the complex, but if you are familiar, and i know you are, but for the folks at home, stretching from nearly the treasury all the way back to beyond the northwest gate. The crowd has been patient and walking down. I actually walked here from logan circle. And walking along with hundreds you can tell that they are calm and passionate and so far nonviolent. Bret kevin couric with the protesters just outside Lafayette Park, six atlanta Police Officers have been charged after a dramatic video showed authorities pulling two young people from a car saturday. Four are charged with advocated assault, one charged with advocated battery. Two were fired sunday. President trump and the outcry over the george floyd death, though president ial candidates plans and a nominee, plans to attend next weeks Memorial Service for floyd in making this moment and the response to it the focus of his campaign. With increased rioting and looting, it is a delicate political balancing act. Peter doocy has the story. Joe bidens borrowing the rallying cry used by protesters upset about George Floyds dea death. I cant breathe. George floyds last words, but they did not die with him. Next week biden will attend the funeral in houston, until then he is pitching major changes to police tactics. Congressman jeffries has a bill to outlaw the choke holds. Congressmen put it on the president s desk in the next few days. That follows the comment about shooting suspects. The idea that instead of standing there and teaching a cop and an unarmed person, you can shoot them in the leg instead of the heart is a very different thing. One of the states aside from d. C. The primary may be a little bit slower than the general, but i think it is all virus related today. Outside the polling place, standing socially distance until it was their turn, two months from now wanting their convention to look like it would have precovid, moving it to nashville and out of North Carolina if the governor will not allow big crowds. The governor would like to keep it there. It is up to the governor and the mayor of charlotte. Trying to focus on key events saying joe bidens campaign made it clear that they stand with the rioters, people burning businesses and minority communities and causing mayhem by donating to post bail for those arrested. But condemning the president right back after protesters were cleared out so that he could have what they call a photo op. The president held up the bible at st. Johns church yesterday, if he opened it, he could have learned something. Less than 3 miles away in Lafayette Park, but to celebrate the protests and the concerns about covid, there are hundreds of people behind me, many wearing masks, and they are socially distancing on the sidewalk waiting for their turn to go in and pulled the lever inside. Bret breaking tonight philadelphia has been hit hard by the violence over the past few days. The mayor with a mandatory citywide curfew for philadelphia for a fourth night. There is some action tonight correspondent Jacqui Heinrich is there, good evening, jackie. Good evening, bret. A group of people made their way through the streets and at some point the police held them off and it got a little bit of tense. They tried to reach the highway but the state police came in and in riot gear they called in more troops coming down with the National Guard members and holding the area closer because this has been looping around the outskirts of the property. The city property. When they were about to cross onto the highway, the police came in and numbers and help people off. This group said they didnt want to deal with that. They didnt want to get into a scuffle because yesterday there was announcement a group went into the highway, stopped traffic and the police used tear grass. A people had to climb up this embankment, they were pepper sprayed, tear gassed and a number arrested appear they want to avoid that scene today and walked through the streets peacefully. The plan is to make the way back to city center where the rest of the group is waiting, bret. Bret okay, stay safe they are, Jacqui Heinrich, thank you new york city will be under a curfew starting at 8 00 p. M. Eastern time. The restrictions did little to stop outbreak of violence last night. Some amazing pictures, bryan llenas on the ground all last night and is there again tonight, good evening. Good evening, thousands of march are protesting that brian clark. The photo, thousands of people here. This is the scene but it was very much a different scene last night and actually caused mirrored bill de blasio to extend the citywide curfew to 8 00 p. M. Here that curfew will last until sunday. Last night hundreds of looters split into multiple groups ransacking storefront up and down iconic tourist and shopping districts from macys and fifth avenue. Also multiple attacks on the police. The nypd made more than 700 arrests but tonight new york andrew cuomo criticized the Largest Police force and the citys mayor for what he characterized as an ineffective response. The nypd fired back. The nypd and the mayor did not do their job last night. I believe that. Tell andrew cuomo to get out on the streets with us. Take a look at the cops that are out there, the cops bleeding. Im all caught up with this thing. We are out there doing our stu stuff. Tonight mass looting, the nypd does not need the National Guard on the street of new york. The mayor said camilla tired militarized presence will escalate things. We will see how things go, bre brett. Bret we will follow it on fox, bryan llenas in new york, thanks. There are protests of the George Floyd Killing overseas. More than a thousand demonstrators marched through downtown sydney, australia today. If you confrontation with counter protesters did not materialize there. Monday, thousands more demonstrators filled the streets in amsterdam to denounce Police Brutality and the killing of george floyd. French antiracis racism despitee band and it was in memory of a 24yearold black frenchman who died in a 2016 Police Operation which some have likened to the death of george floyd. Just some of the protests around the world. President trump is declaring himself the law and order president. Those words echoed those of another leader decades ago. We talked over the past few days, david shows us tonight. As melee erupted across the street the president made clear his reelection pitch. I am your president of law and order and an ally of all Peaceful Protesters. The rose garden speech may have struck a chord with anxious americans thirsty for an end to the riots and looting but the president s rhetoric is not new. 52 years ago then candidate Richard Nixon sold himself the same way. Let us recognize that the first civil right in every american is to be free from domestic violence. So i pledge to you, we shall have order in the United States. The 1968 riots following the death of Martin Luther king jr. And robert f. Kennedy gripped the country for weeks. Like trump, nixon promised above all security. As my client said history does not repeat itself but there are rhymes and there is rhyming between 1968 and 2020. Craig shirley said nixons tough talk was countered by then governor of california ronald reagan. Wreck and was more resolute probably, but he was also calmer in his approach to Richard Nixon. He was reagan reached out to protesters into the College Campuses and sat down and talk to them. But nixon his way worked at the polls. The tough talk is not a reelection ticket for trumped. Washington, one columnist says he offers not a hope and unity like Bobby Kennedy but fear and Division Like george wallace. While hoping to read the political reward as nixon but surely disagrees. Trump is talking about law and order and law in order for everybody, not just for one segment of society. Here at the department of justice attorney general bill barr is looking to restore law and order. Slapping federal charges on those not protesting that rioting. Bret. Bret david, outside of the doj, david thanks. I understand and support the necessary to restore order and peace the first priority. We are a nation built on the law. We need to accept this decision was the grand juries to make. Too often we judge groups by their worst examples. The losses unpaired. We cannot explain it. We can stand beside you and share your grief. Bret the president is dealing with protests, riots, looting, civil unrest. At this moment in time, lets bring in the panel fox news lawrence jones, susan page washington and former education secretary and host of the bill bennett show, bill, you look back at history and different moments. This is, we are dealing with two crises at the same time, but this is the one where the president has said he wants to keep the streets and dominate the streets. How do you think this is plaguing . Well, how it is plank different from what is true or not. An essential and consider the alternatives, do whatever you want and give up control of the streets. You own them. That would be impossible. So we know it is inevitable and it has to happen. The sooner the better. The sooner it happens, establishment will be done. But there is enormous antipathy towards this for a variety of reasons. A lot of it has to do with the dislike of the president of course, a lot of sympathy for the death and the horrible death of this man. But lets remember a horrible crowd come a lot of people are in the crowd. People that are serious and thoughtful demonstrators and people who are anarchist who want to destroy and there are people that just want to get out of the house. But again consider the alternatives. You cannot allow the streets to be run by whoever wants to run them. This is the definition. Peacefully an orderly society. If you dont have it, you dont have a society. This is an interaction and it needs to be put down. Susan, there is a lot of reaction to the residence walk over to st. Johns and what was called a photo up by his credits to my critics and the administration stood out there with the bible. The d. C. Archbishop also had a problem with the event of Pope John Paul iis memorial and area in d. C. , take a listen to this. I am outraged that the president did not pray when he came to st. Johns, nor as you just articulate did he acknowledge the agony of the country right now. In particular, that of the people of color in our nation. That is the bishop talking about the st. Johns walk over and then the d. C. Archbishop who also weighed in. Susan, your thoughts on the reaction to that and its impact. I think the reason is the walk last night got such a huge reaction was because the protesters there, they were not looting and rioting and setting fires. They were peacefully protesting. You could say that because we were all watching on our television screen. And it was the act of pushing them back, using i think, we shouldnt conflate rioters, looters with Peaceful Protesters who were exercising their constitutional right. We are doing so in a responsible and peaceful way. And i think thats where it got such a reaction. Bret yeah, i guess the problem is a lot of these protests, they start peaceful and it gets to night time and they are coopted by rioters and looters. We have seen this damage across the country. Yeah, bret, that is the unfortunate part. There has been a lot of talk about the phrase law and order. The reason is there are several components of that. We have to address them all. When it comes to law and order, you have to make sure you protect peoples Constitutional Rights to protest, but you also have to uphold the law when people decide to loot and go after private businesses. But the other component of law and order is that when the state abused their power that they are held accountable and when the state or still out on the street and at homes or in their beds, there tends to be unrest. So i think we have to be careful when we talk about law and order because its not just about protecting the streets. Its about protecting the community when government abuses their power. It is not just when Law Enforcement officers killed, you know, undo justified killing and went to state abuses their power like we have seen during this pandemic. And so. Dont make these can become accomplished but you have to show compassion for those experienced in this on all levels. Bill, just in the past few minutes, let me just get you to react to those. Just the past few minutes, the joint chiefs mike mullen wrote a piece in the atlantic and impart he said i have to speak out on issues surrounding President Trumps leadership but we are at a point in the past few weeks where its made it impossible to remain silent. Im deeply worried that as they execute their orders, the members of the military will be coopted for political purposes, even in the midst of the carnage we are witnessing we must endeavor to see townes and entering homes and neighborhoods not to be dominated and must never become so. The reference to battle spaces is something the defense secretary said a phrase he used. Bill. The battle space were made by a lot of these people. Cops were shot at, beaten and stores were broken into, citizens were roughed up. The the president didnt start this but what strikes me is thaa lot of the media, and you know, the democrats and even the hierarchy of the Episcopal Church were more upset about the president walking with a bible to st. Johns church than they were about people trying to commit arson and burned the church down. Lets keep proportionality here. Of course, there is compassion. I dont think ive ever remembered so much compassion expressed by a country, white and black for someone has expressed for mr. Floyd appear that is a very good and wholesome thing. But lets remember the condition for thriving in society and one of those is peace and order. Two of those. The problem is we want to continue this discussion. Lawrence, let me take a quick break. We have lied protest in los angeles on the right side of the screen, washington from Lafayette Park on the left, and we want to talk about this and the politics, joe biden with a contrasting response to the protest after a short break on to eligible members special before they worry about their insurance or credit card bills. The country is crying out for leadership. Leadership that can unite us. Leadership that can bring us together. Leadership that can recognize pain and deep grief of communities that ive had a knee on their neck for a long time. Bret joe biden talking today about the root of the problem, obviously about george floyd and the protest and also trying to express empathy with the speech. President trump tweeting out, sleepy joe has been in politics for 40 years and did nothing but now he pretends to have the answers. He doesnt even know the questions. Weakness will never beat anarchist, looters, thugs and joe has been politically weak all his life with law and order. The panel, susan, the lies are being drawn around this issue it seems i in the selecti. Pretty clear contrast between the tone that was set by the president and by joe biden addressing this issue. The president with law and order and the need to crack down and joe biden talking about the need to address much more empathetic approach. And different. I mean come i think this is a test with that this is 1968 all over again or not. Its been 50 years since then. Our country the portion of our country that is racial minority has doubled in that time. It is somewhat different landscape but on the other hand, the desire for order is strong among americans when they see prime ministry. What are americans going to be looking for in november, still five months away . I think it is hard to predict how the politics will unfold. Spin when i think that is exactly right. I think we have yet to know. Remember we are just past the chapter. We are still in the chapter of coronavirus and a reaction to that. We are in another chapter of americas life. Lawrence, what about that call for empathy from president tru President Trump . Does he have a weakness there, or is he on a winning message with law and order and keeping the streets safe . No come i think the president can talk more about being empathy before the black community and what they are facing with the police department, although he said he is an ally my think there is a little more action he can put into this. Joe biden struck the right tone, but you know them by their fruits. A man who has been in politics and an elected leader, not like hes been at the forefront in getting the reform done for black america. This is the same guy has not apologized for the crime bill which destroyed the relationship even more between the black community and the police. So i think there is some danger here for joe biden to act like he is all be all on this issue. Also, when it comes to him acting like this started with donald trump, this has been going on for years. So if its going to go one for the next election pretending like this is a donald trump issue even after donald trump has called into department of justice and still the family on this come i think it can be problematic for him. Bret bill. Well, first of all, the advice of the democrats, he is better in the basement. But really, i dont think that was particularly persuasive. To susans point, we have been talking about root causes for 50 or 60 years. We have been talking about an honest conversation about race in this country for 30 or 40 years. In fact, a lot of people dont want an honest conversation about race. They want to talk about the family. They want to talk about absence of fathers in the minority community. They dont only want to talk about the things that attacked what they regard as the white majority. To have a candid and honest assessment of these things would be a very good thing. But i dont think we will get there. We certainly wont get there if we dont have a quiet place to do it. That is what is at stake now. The first thing you have to do is establish whose country it is pure of the country belongs to the people. Bret bret panel, thank yoy much come i have to run lawrence because we have a hard break. We will have this conversation many more times, i promise you that as you look live in los angeles and washington, d. C. Susan lawrence, and bill, there brighter side, somd news.
