That mayor pete holds big crowds of cures coccyx goers, even in the middle of the day when most people are at work and new numbers reflect the new interest in a man that most have never heard of this time last year. That could be a 37yearold mayor and it feels filled with 70 somethings. If Pete Buttigieg is riding don mcgahn riding a 14point search since august, and of joe biden come all is that one, Bernie Sanders, amy klobuchar, and six place, Kamala Harris, who campaigned all across the country for the first caucus seat. We have been practically living in iowa. Michael bloomberg plans to skip iowa and the other early stages but he would like to be on ballot for tuesday and beyond so today he filed as a candidate in arkansas and on the mayor known for limiting the size of sugary drinks got barbecue for lunch. Rivals are rolling their eyes at bloombergs plan. What you think about his apparent decision to skip the 41st contest . Its probably not possible for most and in New Hampshire, Bernie Sanders already has 90 staffers. If Pete Buttigieg has 95. By didnt and warren have 50 each. [indistinct speaking] its to get out and watch as many people as possible. Foreign government or of messages could soon during the race after she said she put him in her cabinet. If i could talk about people who arent politicians, i would talk about my warmer governor, jamaal patrick, who was a pretty terrific guy. Warranted was complementary about and who is still running in the wrong primary. Imagine if i said to her, you should ban a socialist primary. The new iowa front runner pete, he is trying to keep things light. A decade or more for now, i would like to be able to return to those young people that i saw a John Adams High School in south bend and find out about how things have unfolded for them that i would hope to be retired and after two good terms in the white house. Hillary clinton just told the bbc she is under by many, many people to run for president but that as of right now, theres absolutely not in her plan. Clinton remains o on the bestknown democrats in the country and would enter a field lead in iowa right now by a man who had to spend the beginning parts of this year teaching democrats how to pronounce his name. Bret filing ends in New Hampshire on friday, correct . Correct. So if anyone wants to be on the ballot here, they have to go to the second floor with a check for thousand bucks by friday. Bret . Bret thank you for breaking tonight, just hours away from the start of the first public impeachment hearings against President Trump. We are learning late today that president considered removing one of the top officials overseeing a crucial element of the investigation that triggered the process. Lets go live with that to chief white house correspondent, john roberts, on the north along with this development. Good evening to you. It was first report courted by the New York Times and confirmed by fox names that his democrats began to spool up the congressional and donna congressional impeachment inquiry, President Trump turned his frustrations to the man who believe gave him investigation likes. It is senior and Administration Officials conversions took fox news that trump had vented his displeasure with Intelligence CommunityInspector General michael atkinson. Aat one point saying something o the effect of, can we get rid of him . The president was frustrated that atkinson had found the whistleblowers complaint urgent and credible and passed it along to congress. If fox news is told there was never any move to fire atkinson, not even any serious consideration given to removing him. Democrats in washington would rather pursue outrageous hoaxes and a delusional witch hunts which are going absolutely nowhere. At the Economic Club of new york today, President Trump venting his frustration with democrats for pursuing impeachment over important Economic Issues like ratifying the usmca. If you had to vote today, i think most of them would actually vote for it but nancy pelosi, nervous nancy, has to put it out there. If she doesnt, shes doing her party at a tremendous disservice and doing the country a tremendous disservice. On the eve of the first public impeachment hearings in 20 years, republicans laying out their defense of President Trump saying the july 25th phone call showed no conditionality or evidence of pressure on ukrainian president zielinski. Ukraine was not aware of military aid being put on hold at the time of the call and that President Trump met with zielinski and gave aid to ukraine without zielinski opening an investigation into joe and hunter biden. The 18 page memo concludes that blish an impeachabled does n offense. The whistleblower at the center of the impeachment inquiry is now the subject of a whistleblower complaint. In a letter to the Intelligence CommunityInspector General, Washington Law Firm says their client believes the whistleblower is soliciting illicit funds on the internet to pay for legal bills. The complaint says the donations clearly constitute gifts to a current intelligence official that may be restricted because of the employees official position. The complaint asks the ig to investigate each an end every donation to determine his from a prohibited source or if a foreign citizen or agent of the Foreign Government made gifts to this intelligence official. 6,000 people have so far donated. Some 227,000 to the whistleblowers go find me campaign. The acting chief of staff here at the white house, mick book mulvaney, decided he will not go to court to fight his subpoena from the house committees investigating potential articles of impeachment. Mick mulvaneys attorneys advised judge richard dline of the d. C. Federal District Court that he will rely on the president s guidance and not complying with the subpoena. Democrats say mulvaney gave up any pretense to privilege and that executive privilege that we talked about all the time, because he gave a press conference where he talked about ukraine and that has no show is only more evidence of obstruction on the part of the president. Whats the over under at the white house if the president will watch that hearing tomorrow . What of the odds but he will watch to my . I would say 100 easily. All right, john, thank you. This evening we will examine who will be asking the questions during this weeks impeachment hearings. More important lang, who will be getting the answers that millions of americans will see and hear live for the first tim. Heres chief congressional chris monaco mike emanuel. The impeachment probe is about to be public with democrats hoping it will lay out an abusive by President Trump. Democrats suggest investor bill taylor had the investigative view of the scheme. It investor ukraine told law makers assistance money will not come until the president of ukraine committed to pursuing the investigation. What democrats argue was a quid pro quo. Taylor said it was directed by the president s personal attorney, rudy giuliani, but couldnt save President Trump ordered it. Taylor will be sitting sidebyside with george kent who testified President Trump wanted ukraines president to say he would investigate. The Senior State Department official who oversees ukraine policy believe the prosecutions were the ones that rudy giuliani, mr. Trumps personal attorney, had been tweeting about, meeting biting, burisma, and turning 16. Republicans a crossexamination of these witnesses will be critical. Are they biased . Whats their credibility . You want to lay that out, second thing you want to do, you want to attack the allegations that they are making. Much of the discrimination will be against at adam schiff and they have the obligation to give some of the time to the respective legal counsel. Schiff said in the memo today, i expect to yield extensive time to Majority Committee counsel during the extended questioning. Period newness suggests his side is at a disadvantage with schiff dictating terms. As of right now, we have no witnesses and we have no knowledge of the foundation of this case and of these accusations. Leading some a democrat who was there during bill clintons impeachment suggests the power of television will be significant compared to thousands of pages of words of words. We can read the transcripts and thats where taylor and others and they have some obvious value, but hearing and testifying and being crossexamined really puts power behind those statements. After all of this buildup, the big question will be of the witnesses career government officials deliver after all, sometimes these highprofile congressional hearings go dog. Bret mike emanuel live on the help of mike, thanks. Please join us all day tomorrow for live coverage of the impeachment hearings right here on fox news channel, 9 00 a. M. Eastern time. Both the prosecution and the defense arrested in the trial against roger stone. The defendant did not take a stand of red stone is accused of lying to congress, witness tampering, and in structuring the house probe of Russian Election meddling. Rick gates said today that stone asked for Jared KushnersContact Information so he could be brief the president s soninlaw about hacked emails from the Democratic National committee. Gates also testified about a phone call he was present for between stone and then candidate donald trumps. He said the call occurred in late july, 2016, and they were heading from trump tower to the airport. Gates said the call ended and mr. Trump said stone had told him there were more emails coming from wikileaks. Justice is on the u. S. Law and benefits on them. Cory blank he asked do you ever think that the executive has the Legal Authority to respond to dock. Longtime litigators said yes so then the question becomes did the administration layout sufficient reasons and logic and they say so far things dont measure up. Its going to take a while and its probably going to end of the decision at the end of the term, june, may, 2020, right in the middle of the president ial election. Bret i will be quite something. Theres also a big case about guns. Whats the latest on that . A lot of times the court makes news about cases it doesnt take and today the judges elected not to take out case about this. It in a number of the fans involved in the sandy hook shooting that killed 26 people, there is a federal law that protects many fractures against liability for crimes committed using their guns but there are exceptions. In this case, the family say remington should be liable because of marketing what they call a military style weapons to civilians, specifically for quote, assault against human beings. The Supreme Court decision not to take up this case today means it returns to a lower court where remington is not going to have to defend itself on the americans case. Google has partnered up with the Health System that is the secondlargest in the country, catholic nonprofit with 2600 hospitals and Nursing Homes and 21 states, including washington, d. C. Google says its understandable that people want to ask questions about the work and the ultimate results were not just visible transfer of information but saving lives. It says they must transform to better meet the needs and expectations of those we serve, doing that will inquire the problematic integration of new care models delivered through the digital platform but not everyone is convinced, including u. Democrats in washington would rather pursue outrageous hoaxes and delusional witch hunts which are going absolutely nowhere. Dont worry about it. Basically a look at those defensive, avoid the facts, avoid the facts, avoid the facts, thats basically what it is. The facts are, the president abused his power. Its not a fair process, its not due process, its adam schiffs process, and Nancy Pelosis process created with the president did is not following the real law. It goes against the democratic rule of law and it is an abuse of power and it really puts our National Security at risk. Bret you will decide tomorrow at the beginning of these public impeachment hearings. They start in the morning with bill taylor, senior u. S. Dilip diplomat and he ran, and george kent, doug beatty assistant secretary of state. If frodo you will see you former u. S. Investor to ukraine, rory evanovich. Today, i had one of the house impeachment managers from almost 20 years ago for president pete clintons impeachment on and he said that this process is just not fair. The republicans asked for a bunch of witnesses. Schiff turned them all down. The republicans asked for the participation of the president s lawyer, schiff had no pear this is kind of like the way stalin ran his cords and it is not something that americans ought to be proud of. Thats a little aggressive to call it like stalin is in a question mark no, i dont ink so paid at bret he didnt think so. It would spring our panel. Charlie hurt, charles lane, and steve hayes come at a day or of the dispatch. You are chuckling over there, charles created he is sticking when stalin asked. You got to set the table for us. Its going to be a surreal week at times i think its because going to be truly surreal and democrats have really hyped this thing and tomorrow is showtime. Tomorrow is the time that matters where they are going to be able to make the case, people are going to be able to watch it live on tv, and they either make the case or they dont make the case. I have to be wondering, is there some bombshell that we dont know about . You know, for their sake, politically, he would hold they would have some sort of grand smoking gun that is going to make their case that when you hear them talk about abuse of power and not following the rule of law, they are already sort of vague reasons that dont go to an actual law that has been broken and so its a high wire act tomorrow and we are going to see it and we are going to watch it. We won the president keeps on saying look at the transcript of the call, weve explained its not an exact transcript but he says see the call, the transcripts of the call, and i heard somebody there the day say its like the internet blue dress this past year that some people look at it and see a blue dress and other people look at it and see a gold dress and its just not going to change and is this public hearing going to change . I admit i have my doubts and partly thats based on experience when bob mueller came out and that was going to be a watershed moment and it ended up just leaving everyone with their opinions right where they were before but i would expect these witnesses in fairness to be much stronger and more compelling and better prepared and with a more specific and new story to talk about. Having said that, america is divided. Opinions what have we been doing for the last three years . You know, the number i keep focusing on, the breakthrough number here, is President Trumps job approval. It is basically held in the neighborhood of 43 in the rcp average through all of the scandals and all of the upper floors and Everything Else that we have had and the democrats, if they want republicans to move, if they want republicans to join and even in relatively small numbers this impeachment in either the house of the senate, they have to do something that breaks to that number and that means its going to be half to be something very different than what theyve been doing for three years. Bret in fact, it went to the other world with the inquiry vote in the house. Interestingly, steve bannon, former Administration Official to Trump Administration, talking to cbs, said i disagree with their ideology but i think nancy pelosi is a master of political warfare. I think strategically what she has done from their perspective is actually quite brilliant, talking about the impeachment process. Process. Essentially arguing that they are trying to bloodied up the president in this process knowing that they are never going to get a conviction ahead of the election next year. That is the question paired what you democrats do to try to make the process look more legitimate . I think of republicans have had a fair complaint that the process to this point has been problematic and adam schiff has been a part of some Many Democrats have been partisan admirable beacons of a legitimate gripe but of course two things can be true at the same ten pages because democrats ran a partisan process doesnt mean there arent concerns with respect to the call in the context for the call and i think thats what we are likely to see. If i share the skepticism here at the table but this is unlikely to change a lot of minds. Ive spoken to members of congress who have said we are not really looking for things to change our minds of the republican side but what people will see, i think tomorrow, but its different, is the testimony from these people that the white house has tried to make billions and they will be able to determine whether that testimony is credible. Somebody like a bill taylor, the white house is portrayed him as a never trumper, he was in fact handpicked by the secretary of state to come in. Hes not a never trumper. If you read the transcos of his testimony before, even though much of it was second and third hand, he paints a pretty compelling case about what took place. If peoples agents or that, if people are persuaded by the fact that that is problematic for the white house. Bret 45 minutes to adam schiff and then 40 minutes for devin nunes and they may defer to counsel to do some of that questioning so itll be a little different that we have seen in Previous Committee hearings. Okay, lets turn to 2020, this new poll out in iowa, mom with pole, wellrespected, and it now has mayor pete at the top plus 14 since august. Its not on the screen is Kamala Harris who is down nine at 3 in iowa where she was put all of her eggs in her basket. Of course this is why we are sing like Michael Bloomberg get into the race and we are seeing other democrats still talking about it to see Pete Buttigieg going the full distance. Obviously you have all sorts of problems with a guy like bernie or a guy like warren and the Biting Campaign has been nothing but a disaster and even though i maintain that plane that biden supposedly occupies is the lane that democrats can get around and its the only lane that could beat to trump the going back to what steve bannon said, nancy pelosi is a brilliant tactician but this is not what nancy pelosi wants to be doing. She got dragged kicking and screaming into this impeachment site and she knows it is bad for them. She knows the last thing her party wants to be talking about in iowa come january and february is this nonsense. So mayor pete rising to this one pole, hes also been rising in other polls lately, you know, when somebody gets to the top like lacrimal. Not only for their opponents but for the republica republicans to look at them and likely his term will come if it hasnt already started. I think the interesting thing mayor pete has done in this period where he has risen to the polls is gently reposition himself into the moderate lane. He has done things like mock in his usual quiet way, was that warrens medicare fraud, he hes come out with the student loan plan that cancels College Tuition plan that cuts off at a much lower level and income scales with more targeted, hes done a number of things that say hey, im a moderate, because he doesnt have much of a record in controlling links. Bret we that will then talk more about this obviously. Next up, some of the nations top Journalism Schools may be changing the rules for the next generation of reporters. Look around. See what our kids see. Before they get to the safety of home. Futures vanish. [dog barking] there is a cure, if you will help. Its an outrage mom thats demanding that the University Pay for it differently when i can come out and say our feelings are more important than your freedom of press, more important than people getting information about what we are doing, then its a dangerous precedent. Journalism is about serving the community so its not journalistic to be sensitive to your readers, whats different about northwestern is what they are asked to be sensitive to you. To speak at the base on what event to tell them to growth and not to pander to them and not to coddle them. You dont want anyone to notice you protesting and stay home. Bret its an interesting story. Northwestern statement, this is the daily northwesterns paper that came out sunday after coverage of Jeff Sessions there. It reporting the harm to many students as a forward coverage of the event, protesters found photos posted to the twitter account retraumatizing and invasive. Also voiced concern about the method that they use to recharge them. Some Staff Members were covering the event used northwestern directory to obtain phone numbers before hand and test them to ask if they wanted to be interviewed. They think this is an invasion of privacy and we have spoken to those reporters along with the entire staff about the correct way to reach out to students for stories. Which is what . The phone of the tax or if that is invasive, what is the proper way to reach out . I think what we are suing as fundamental exposition of the problems with both journalism and its practice on campus and also the campus environment more broadly. The editor of the paper said nothing is more important than making fellow students feel safe. We want to show marginalized students more than anything that the daily is really listening. Thats not what journalism is about. The subjects of your reporting are going to be frustrated with you sometimes. Thats part of the job. The audience that you are reporting for is sometimes going to be frustrated with what you do and how you do your job but your job is to make people feel comfortable, not to make people feel safe. Its not to coddle anyone in the whole process, its to tell the truth. Bret we have seen a few of these, harvard, columbia, a few of these moments where there is a battle between journalism and making people feel okay. Well, you know, i cant defend this apology and i wouldnt even try. I would call for a little tiny bit of sympathy based on the youth of the offender in this case, who according to this deans letter, were subjected to what seems like an incredible sort of twitter mom attack on campus and it isnt really a defense of what they said, its trying to be a defense of what they were up against. I think what i would like to focus on is how harvard crimson responded when it came under similar kind of pressure and they come i think this is very important, they listened to all of the complaints, they met with the students were completing about them, and then they issued a statement defending the coverage that they had engaged in and what they had done. While this is a very depressing moment for those of us who believe i in the free press, i would like to switch the attention over to the good news, which was at least the harvard crimson stood up and by the way, in the face of a vote by the Student Council they are even, it cant stand panic you know, lets remember the pulitzers line about afflicting the comfortable and comforting the afflicted. Look, what these people did is no worse than what the New York Times dated. They folded like a cheap suit under pressure about the headline that was a perfectly factual headline they had in their newspapers, supposed to be the greatest newspaper in the united states. They completely folded and change their headline so i dont see thats where they learned it. Kiddos, you know, life is traumatizing. It is a sad fact about life and i am reminded as i am almost every day of charles and what he admonished many times the moment conservatives walked off college campuses, they gave up the fight and until that gets reversed or people just start getting common sense, we we are in trouble.
