First meeting with north Korean Leader kim jong unless youre in singapore. Vietnam is promising maximum security. The media is promising maximum coverage. The president is not predicting maximum support, instead what he calls a continuation of progress. We begin our coverage with chief correspondent john roberts whos in hanoi where its past 6 00 a. M. On tuesday. Good morning, john. Good morning to you, chris. President trump indicated this weeks summit would be another step down a long road to fundamental change in north america. The president is coming under increasing pressure to have kim jong un put up or shut him out. The president s first summit with kim jong un was historic. This one will be crucial in terms of whether the new relationship between President Trump and kim goes forward or takes a step back. Speaking to the National GovernorsAssociation Just before leaving, President Trump this morning was optimistic. We are speaking loud and i think we could have a very good lament. I think well have a very tremendous summit. At the first summit in singapore, kim made a commitment to dismantle his nuclear program. Other than shuttering some facilities that werent needed anymore, he has done nothing to make good on that promise. In recent testimony before congress, the intelligent jeeps doubted he ever will. We assess that north korea will seek to retain its wmd capabilities and unlikely to completely give up its nuclear weapons. In a letter to the President Trump, Senate Democrats urge the president to put the squeeze on kim, we believe your next meeting with kim show tangible, verifiable process. While President Trump says hes not in a rush to push kim too hard, he is making the case that economic benefits will flow from kims scrapping of nuclear weapons. I think hell have a country that will settle on a record for speed in terms of an economy. As the president was departing washington, concerns about the direction that his special representative on north korea Stephen Biegun was taking in negotiations leading up to the summit. A Senior Administration official telling fox news he was willing to offer too much and the denuclearization has become a negotiating point, not the rocksolid commitment that kim made at the summit. Those concerns, the official said, are shared among the white house, state department, treasury, and Energy Department departments. Officials are also worried that talk about economic engagements between south and north korea as well as cultural exchanges could weaken the pressure for denuclearization. President trump has vowed sanctions will stay on until north korea comes through. President trump did take a step back on other sanctions, those against china. Announcing hes delaying a tariff plan for friday. Pleased that trade talks over the weekend could lead to a dea deal. It could happen fairly soon or might not happen at all. Might not happen at all. But it i think its going to happen and its going to happen very soon. Trump says he hopes to meet with xi jinping and hopes to get more help from xi to get north korea across the finish line. Chris . Chris john, thank you. Stocks were up today. The dow gained a 60. The s p 500 finished ahead three. Nasdaq rose 70. Democrat president ial candidate is trying to differentiate herself from an already crowded field. She is promising a major change in fundraising and advocating a unique position on reparations. Money is very much the theme of tonights democratic primary update. Here is correspondent peter doocy. On the campaign trail, there are lots of democrats but very few details about how much things cost, like medicare for all or the Green New Deal. Its not about the cost, its about an investment. Despite the ambitious Progressive Agenda they are pushing, democratic hopefuls should not downplay the strength of President Trumps who tells ap quote, i would never underestimate donald trump. The trump 2020 effort is already putting its Historic Fund raising hall to work with that campaign and outside Group Combining to spend 9. 9 billion on facebook ads, as potential challenges so theyll try to beat him with no money from corporate pacs. You cannot Campaign Long and think think you will govern right. Elizabeth warren saying shell take a step further, saying she will not call or meet with wealthy donors, saying that almost 20 of our candidates time is spent with potential wealthy donors. Its safe to assume that goes for presenter campaigns too, and president ial donors are predispose an she wants native americans to be included talks about potential reparations as she tries to make good with the communities you confused with claims of native american ancestry. While the only open the socialist candidate Ernie Sanders that almost a third of the million plus people signed up as Callum Campaign volunteers are new and did not sign up in 2016. Praised by another potential candidate this weekend, bill de blasio, who said they couldve made a big difference last time if not for one thing. Held at arms too much. Two more heavy hitters finally joined the field or take their names out of the mix for good. Beto orourke and Michael Bloomberg told them to expect decisions from them by the end of the month, and the month is over on thursday. Chris . Peter, thank you. President trump did not win and oscar and was not at last nights ceremony, but his presence was certainly there. Spike lee made sure everyone got the message. Hes not a big fan. Today, the president responded as only he can. Lets talk about it now with senior political analyst brit hume. Good evening, brit. Hi, chris. Chris last night, spike lee, after a long career, finally won a oscar and ended his acceptance speech with this. Take a look. The 2020 president ial election around the corner. Lets all mobilize. Lets all be on the right side of history. Make the moral choice between love versus hate. Lets do the right thing chris President Trump took exception, tweeting this morning, it would be nice if spike lee could read his notes or better yet not have to use notes at all when doing his race is hit on your president , who has done more for africanamericans, criminal justice reform, lowest on employment numbers in history, tax cuts, et cetera, than almost any other president. Brit, what do you make of that exchange . Well. I dont think it was racist. I dont even think it was particularly antitrump. He didnt mention the president. You may have heard me on this before. I think the word racist is lug around these days is a terrible thing. It was a great triumph for the civil rights movement, the National Consensus overwhelming National Consensus against racism. The word has been weaponized in politics. Its used often by the left against conservatives and republicans. Now we have a president using it against spike lee who is obviously a democrat and a leftist. I think the president is out of line on this. I think spike lee i mean, he said some pretty strong things before. But that was a unifying message he said. Love versus hate. I think chris and i are both for love versus hate. If you asked the president , he would say he was too. I do not think its his finest moment to respond. Chris there were a number of moments about mexico and the wall. Here are a few of those. There wont be a popular movie, and mexico is not paying for the wall. There are no borders or walls that can restrain ingenuity and talent. Chris and Alfonzo Cuaron won not one, not two, not three. It seemed pretty clear last night, brit, the hollywood is on one side of the wall and the mexico controversy and thinks the president is on the other. Well, i think thats right, chris. It goes a little beyond that. I think the way hollywood has gotten, and with that the oscars ceremony has gotten, is the hollywood is on one side of the divide of this country about half the country perhaps, and the other half of the country is on the other side. There was a time where, you know, the Entertainment Industry thought it was its business to entertain and attract as many people as possible. Those days seem to be gone. The oscars ceremony has become a national moment. Everybody watches. It was not politics drenched the way it is now. In fact, chris, i happen to see a clip the other day because a man named Stanley Donovan who ws a longtime director, the man who directed the famous film singin in the rain died. In 1998, he got a career oscar. Lifetime achievement award. He did an absolutely charming acceptance speech in which he sang a song and did a little soft tissue and thanked all the talented people who worked. The audience went wild. Thats how the oscars used to b be. Chris political analyst and movie critic brit hume. Always a pleasure. For all the talk about the divide on capitol hill, there is a bipartisan effort tonight to keep providing help for thousands of people who need it now and will keep getting it for a long time to come. Chief convertibles correspondent mike emanuel explains. Im in the mood for a fight. The time to take care of 9 11 First Responders is running out of cash. We will never be disrespected again. Ever. Youre either with us or youre against us. If you are morally bankrupt, will expose you. Survivors and some star power are making this appeal to lawmakers. Now its congress job to fund it properly. And let these people live in peace. The toxic cocktail of chemicals burning at ground zero in the aftermath of the september 11th attacks have led to more than 9,000 responders and survivors developing rare forms of cancer according to the bills sponsor. The original law is due to expire next year, threatening the compensation for 9 11 victims and those who have gotten seriously ill since then. The bipartisan bill compensates individuals and Family Members affected by the attack and recovery efforts. Extends the fund to seven years to 2090, and pays all eligible claims that they have been previously reduced due to insufficient funding. This is one issue where republicans and democrats agree they have a moral responsibilit responsibility. The 9 11 toll is still growing. 9 11 responders are still suffering. In the World Trade Center health program, 45,000 people are suffering. This is an american event. This is a seat shining sea moment. As seat a sea to shining she moment the nightmare is ongoing. My husband died awaiting. And believing that this country was going to stand here and protect family when he quoted. Those behind this effort note that in a few years more people wouldve died from 9 11 related illness than were killed in the actual attacks. Chris . Chris mike emanuel reporting from capitol hill. Up next, well talk with new york senator Kirsten Gillibrand about the 9 11 fund and the 2020 president ial race. First, heres what some of our fox affiliates around the country are covering tonight. Fox 26 in houston, with the investigation into the deadly crash of a cargo plane for online retailer amazon, investigators say there was no distress call before the crash. Authorities have confirmed the identity of one of the three people who were on board. Fox 2 in San Francisco with day three of the oakland teachers strike. The Vice President of the Teachers Union says 10,000 people have come out to support the teachers so far and only 3 of students have come to school during the strike. And this is a live look at Cook County Jail in chicago from fox 32. The big story there tonight, the imminent release of singer r. Kelly on bail. Earlier today, his lawyer entered a not guilty plea for his client. Multiple charges of criminal sexual abuse. Kelly appeared in the chicago courtroom for his arraignment. Hes charged with aggravated Sexual Abuse Involving four females, including three who were under aged. When prosecutors allege the abuse occurred. This is beyond wifi, this is xfi. Simple. Easy. Awesome. Xfinity, the future of awesome. Chris we told you earlier about the latest of the democratic president ial contenders and we also talked about the 9 11 Victims Compensation fund. New york senator Christian Village band behind christian Kirsten Gillibrand. Senator gillibrand joins us tonight. How are you . Good to be here. Chris serious problem in the 9 11 fund. How fast is it running out of money and what does that mean to both the survivors and the First Responders . The truth is, next week people who are supposed to be Getting Compensation are actually going to have their compensation cut. They might only get 50 of what they are supposed to get or 30 of what they are supposed to get. Its a serious problem because these families are desperate. The primary wager may have died or are dying. They need compensation. These are First Responders. These are the ones who raced up the towers on 9 11 when everybody else is coming down. The truth is more firefighters have died since 9 11 9 11 thann 9 11. We have to stand by them on their greatest time of need, and thats why they need to make the Victims Compensation fund a permanent. Thats what this bill is about. We have to make sure there is not only of bipartisan support, but to invite President Trump to get behind this bill as a measure of his administration and what he believes in as well as asking Mitch Mcconnell to let others vote on it. These bills have been unanimous. These kinds of measures arent about democrats or republicans. Its about who we are as americans that we will stand by our First Responders in the greatest time of need. Chris the president is a new york guy, born and bred. Where is he on this . We are asking him to support the 9 11 9 11 nine Victims Compensation fund. We need his report chris he has not made a position you . Thats why we are running out. To cut these compensations by 50 or up to 70 of cuts . Its unacceptable. Its not what the Compensation Fund was designed to do. For these families, i met with families today. When youve lost your husband who perhaps is your primary wage earner or your family and you have 23, four kids. You cant make ends meet. The concern and worry and fear these families are making is real. The saddest thing about today are the people who werent there. I remember a firefighter named ray pfeiffer. When he first came to washington, he walks. He went doortodoor to talk to every senator. Next time he came, he had to be with a cane. The last time he came he was with a wheelchair. The last thing he wanted to do one is bucket list is to visit allentown to pay his respects to fallen heroes. Hes not here today. Thats not what this this is what this is about. The men who do the historic, heroic thing chris i want to talk about it being a bipartisan effort. You and cory gardner, you had jon stewart here today. You had some of the First Responders, some of the survivors of 9 11. I guess what surprises me that its such a hard push. It shouldnt be hard to push. Chris is there any opposition to this . Hopefully there will be none. Thats where we are inviting President Trump to survive this bill. Thats why we are hoping that senator mcconnell will put the bill on the floor. Every time, its been unanimous. Chris why are you worried it wont happen again . Because we cannot ask them to come back again. Every time theyve done this, well do it for five years, well do it shortterm. This needs to be the final ask of these First Responders, these committee members. Today, we had a woman whos 17 years old, a student in 9 11, not only did the government tell her the air was clean, she was back right away breathing the same air that her classmates are being diagnosed with horrible cancers. It should be a National Call for action. Something that should bring us together. We believe in our First Responders, we believe in the sacrifice they give. One moment of time where they actually need ask, we should stand by them. Both the president and senator mcconnell go, do the right thing and do the sense of urgency next week, you only get 50 or 70 and cut by that much and only get a third of what youre supposed to get . Thats not good enough. Its not enough for families to survive. Chris you talk about bringing everybody together, something that is going to test of the divide is going to be between 20 campaign. You are potentially a candidate. You formed an exploratory committee. You are exploring some big ideas, which would also be big programs. The Green New Deal, medicare for all. Weve got a whole list of things that youve supported here. Which, by every estimate, which caused trillions of dollars. How do you deal with the government in their lovely ideas, too expensive, do you fear leaving an opening for President Trump to say these guys are out of touch, they are just going to tax and spend your money, they are socialists . Lets take one idea. Lets talk about what the Green New Deal is for Global Climate change, Severe Weather is the greatest threat to humanity weve had. Scientists have already reached the conclusion, what new yorkers know and what people across the country know that when Severe Weather hits, people die. It destroys communities. Did you see Staten Island after 9 11 . Communities destroyed, homes destroyed. Chris the everybody agrees on that. But what about the trillions of dollars . Just a second. When john f. Kennedy was president , he said lets put a man on the moon the next ten years not because its easy but because its hard. Its an image of our entrepreneurialism, our excellence. This urgency requires a call to action to all of american engineers, all of our entrepreneurs, all our innovators to say lets solve the problem together. Lets over the next ten years do three things. Only three things. All of which are bipartisan. The first of which is back renewable energy. Solar, wind, nuclear, biofuel. Chris ive got to get to one more question. Okay, thats one. We let manufacturing go to china. So why not let a commitment to not these new energies but the job training bred seconds of infrastructure. Everyone in america want more infrastructure. We believe we should be we should rebuild. And clean earth and clean water but no child should drink water out of a faucet thats tainted. Thats what it is. The its an ambition for the future that we get behind. Chris one of your democratic opponents if you get in the race, senator elizabeth warren, says shes not going to post any big fundraisers for high ticket prices to get in. On our campaign, there will be no of that youll be splitted from because you cant afford i it. You are a Top Executive , pfizer is holding a event for you. Tickets are 5,000 to 2000. Is warren writes that access to candidates are for sale . No, but i think that you need to get money out of politics. The most important thing we have to do is up and is how are the wealthiest, most powerful lobbyist and special Interest Groups get to write bills in the dead of night. Chris okay to go but let me finish. I got your point. When you write a bill, medicare, you cant buy in bulk . Thats a sweetheart deal for the drug companies. Chris this is a drug executive who is holding this meeting. And a dear friend ive known for years and years who believes in my gay rights platform and womens rights. Chris what about the 2700 ticket . Let me finish. Whats wrong with washington is there so much corruption. We cant actually pass, and Central Point this country not because people arent behind it, but because the nra is more worried about the the gun sales than sy of our kids. Chris can you answer my question thats thats why im banning super pac money. Its why i am no, im not having a individual super pac and banning corporate pack checks. Thats to make sure that the elite of the elite do not have unbelievable influence over washington. When the coke brothers decide chris 2700 tickets, will you have the fundraiser or not . Of course. Im going to ask americans to support my campaign. Taking away the influence that Corporate Tax checks have, the fact that federal lobbyist get to control everything chris you dont see a contradiction . I dont. At the end of the deck of people will support our campaigns because they believe in us. They believe that i will fight for womens reproductive freedom, lgbt equality. This country has always been great because we care about one another. We believe in the golden rule. We believe that you should treat others the way you want to be treated. That we in fact care about the least amount of us among us. We need to restore the power to the hands of the people. Chris may i make a suggestion . Will you come back on fox . Will have more time to talk like to make of course. Chris thank you, senator. Pleasure. My pleasure. Chris good luck on this 9 11 deal. So important. Its about who we are as americans. Chris absolutely. Thank you. Two Congressional Democrats go after each other over the Green New Deal. Well show you when we come bac back. Is simple. Coricidin hbp is the 1 brand that gives powerful cold symptom relief without raising your blood pressure. Coricidin hbp. So why not bundle them with esurance and save up to 10 . Which you can spend on things you really want to buy, like. Well, i dont know what youd wanna buy because im just a guy on your tv. Esurance. Its surprisingly painless. Chris White House Press secretary Sarah Sanders says an accusation by a Campaign Staffer that then candidate trump kissed her without consent is absurd on its face. President trump and the secretary of state mike pompeo both sounding optimistic. Lets bring in our panel. Chris stirewalt, editor at fox news for democratic strategist leslie marshall, and steve wilton, host of the next revolution on fox news channel. Saying hes in no rush, his quote, for north korea to denuclearize. Is that enough for the summit . Can the u. S. Live for a while with north korea as a Nuclear Power just as long as its not testing . Yes. For a while. Thats a crucial point. In many ways, the process here is the purpose. A lot of criticism of the president from the Foreign Policy establishment and its political rivals saying theres not enough concrete steps here. Nothing is really happening. But the fact that they are talking, that is a positive result. Frankly, if any other president whether republican or democrat had got to this point, first by getting china to participate in the pressure campaign. Then to really read with this relationship so we are talking being on the brink of nuclear catastrophe, they will be hailed as a Foreign Policy genius. Chris lets pick this up for people in the cheap seats. Members of both parties are concerned that the president goes on this and so anxious to have something that he can count as ideal, as a victory. Heres democratic senator ed markey. There is apprehension amongst most of President Trumps most diplomats heading into the summit. Nothing is clear. I think as a result, we could run the risk that kim is given concessions which are not accompanied by real concessions that the United States is receiving in return from kim and his regime. Leslie, President Trump says he does not need advice from people whove been dealing with are talking about north korea for years and havent come up with anything. The dealmaker had a photo op in the polls for himself and we can have that you are talking about singapore. Thats what we are going to see. Take two if you will. Dan coats said, i agree with him. Chris the director of national intelligence. He needs to have the wmds. Thats the security blanket. I disagree with steve on this. If we are hard and pushed for full denuclearization, we are not taking baby steps towards our goal. In a sense, in this regard, kim jong un is holding the cards and we are not getting anywhere. What kind of deal that we have . Nothing. I feel will have that again. The six erie state and president backpedaled a bit already. Mike pompeo was on fox news yesterday off camera. I asked why a two day summit . If they are progress on the first day, and one on one period for some period of time, we want to give him time meeting him and the detriments of both sides can get together and try to put what theyve agreed to on paper, work it out so that there is a concrete statement. What do you think of the chances that this wont be an intention to denuclearize, but there will be some meat on the bones this time . The time is always on the side of the North Koreans and that has been since the end of the korean conflict. Thats how they play. As long as they could just keep going, a little bit longer they can make it to the next thing. We contrast what were doing in north korea with what were doing in venezuela. The message from senator marco rubio and others to maduro, get out or get dead. You will either get out or get that. In korea, they say stay in and get rich. Come to vietnam. See how prosperous vietnam has become. Be like us. The president s promise to kim, play ball with me and youll end up rich, the country will end up rich and youll see quick growth. Whether or not thats a real thing, i dont know. Chris panel, well take a break here. Next up, well reveal the latest for the democratic president ial field for 2020. There have been interesting developments the last couple of days. You might take something for your heart. Or joints. But do you take something for your brain. Less than one week after we began this campaign, we now have 1 million volunteers in every Congressional District in this country who are prepared to roll up their sleeves and get to work, to make sure we would make the democratic nomination, that we defeat trump. Chris very catchy music. Raising money and support in the opening days of his president ial campaign. Back with the panel to discuss the latest of the president ial field. Some feeling when this all started that democratic voters might like bErnie Sanders ideas but want them in a new bottle, a fresh face to express those new ideas. But hes raising impressive amounts of money. Those millions of volunteers, shows a lot of people from 2016 is supporting him. They say a third of those volunteers or people who werent signed up to the Burning Campaign in 2016. What does that tell us . BErnie Sanders will not get out of this race. Bernie might not get out of this race after he loses new hampshire. There is no to get him out. Hes got a solid fundraising base, he got grassroots. Not like hes worried about the next round. Hes 77. Its not like hes thinking about 2024. BErnie Sanders will do what he did last time. Hell raise a bazillion dollars, youll get all the clicktivist clicking away. They have to reconcile themselves to one fact. Hes not going to go away and hell do a lot of damage to this field as he rolls on. We would welcome a damage to the field is in the eyes of the beholder chris yes, damage in the field is to the eyes of the beholder. Certainly republican attacks on their democratic field on some of the big ideas they are pushing. I talked about it with Kirsten Gillibrand here, the Green New Deal, medicare for all, several other ideas. Senator Kamala Harris was confronted with that on the weekend. Its not about cost, its about an investment. The question should be is it worth the cost in terms of the investment potential . Are we going to get back more than we put in . Chris its not about the cost, its about the investment. Lastly, when you talk about not billions of dollars but trillions of dollars for each one of these programs, is that going to fly . No. I disagree with my fellow democrat with that. It comes down to the cost because whats the budget . The cost is going to equal whether you were going to get votes or not up or down and thats within the Democratic Party as well. All of this, whether you have bernie in all of these different attitudes, these people who say we are for medicare for all, we are for raising the minimum wage to 15 an hour across the board. We are not seeing specifics when it comes to things like climate change, certain candidates. We are also hearing what we heard from senator harris which is the cost doesnt matter when it does. This, i think, its going to cause further divisions within the Democratic Party and it could help reelect donald trump and make him a two term president. Chris thats interesting coming from you. I asked the dnc chair tom perez on Fox News Sunday this weekend about President Trump going after democrats, not just for spending a lot of money, high taxes, but socialism. Heres how he pushed back. Social security, when it was being debated, you had republicans calling in socialism. The minimum wage in 1938, you have republicans calling it socialism. Medicare, Ronald Reagan said and i quote that medicare will lead to socialized medicine. Why did they do that . They are wrong on the issues. Chris is that an effective pushback on the socialist or miss if you . It may be accurate history but it wont affect choices you make. I agree because its astonishing, really how easily and quickly and likely these leading democratic contenders have signed up the positions that are going to become a real Liability Company general election. They may say at this point, well, we are just signing up to the big ideas. Its all about the details. Over time the, they can put the details in and claim that its not as threatening to people.
