The crowd there at cpac seemed to love every minute of the one hour, 14 minute speech. President trump unplugged but big policy changes also ran the day. Chief White House Correspondent john roberts starts us off tonight on the north lawn. Good evening, john. Good evening to you. No question there was a lot in the president s speech but one curious omission. His support for raising the minimum age to buy a rifle from 18 to 21. National rifle association, big sponsor of cpac is firmly opposed to that idea. But there was one proposal that the president floated that had him in lockstep with his base today. At the conservative Political Action conference, President Trump doubled down on his calls for qualified teachers or staff to be armed and trained to respond in the event of a School Shooting. Well trained gun adept teachers and coaches and people that work in those buildings, people that were in the marines for 20 years and retired. People in the army, the navy, the air force. The coast guard, people that are adept, adept with weaponry and with guns. President trump insists that the gunfree zones that describe most american schools are an invitation for killers to pounce. And that the best way to deter School Shootings is to let potential killers know if they enter, they will be met with a hail of return fire. Its concealed so this crazy man who walked in wouldnt even know who it is that has it. Thats good thats not bad. Thats good. And a teacher would have shot the hell out of him before he knew what happened. The proposal was met with dirision but a frequent critic of the president. Cockpit lunacy is the way to describe the idea of arming 10 to 40 of all the teachers in this country. From the president of the Teachers Union yesterday, teachers dont want to be armed. We want to teach. No amount of training can prepare an armed teacher to go up against an ar15. On his way to cpac, President Trump was also critical of the broward sheriffs deputy who stayed outside Douglas High School instead of running towards the unfolding carnage inside. Thats the case where somebody was outside, theyre trained, they didnt react properly under pressure or they were a coward. It was a real shock to the police department. Another reason the president said to have teachers defend the students because they are far more invested in the childrens welfare. These teachers love their students and id rather have somebody that loves their students and wants to protect their students than somebody standing outside that doesnt know anybody and doesnt know the students. In addition to School Shootings, President Trump today zeroed in on another threat. Announcing the biggest package of sanctions yet against north korea targeting 27 companies, 28 ships and one individual for smuggling fuel and other supplies to support north Koreas Nuclear weapons program. Appearing in the east room with australias Prime Minister, President Trump issued another sharp warning to north korea. The sanctions dont work, well have to go phase two. And phase two may be a very rough thing. Maybe very, very unfortunate for the world. With today the day a number of white house staffers were set to lose their interim security clearance, President Trump weighed in on the fact that soninlaw Jared Kushner is still operating without his full security clearance. We inherited a system thats broken. Its a broken system. And it shouldnt take this long. So that will be up to general kelly. General kelly respects him a lot and general kelly will make that call. I wont make that call. I will let the general who is right here make that call. Sources tell fox news tonight that the Deputy Attorney general Rod Rosenstein telephoned the white House Counsel two weeks ago to say that Jared Kushners security clearance file would not be completed by the deadline today. That there were still some outstanding issues that required further investigation but we are told tonight from white house officials that Jared Kushner still maintains his interim security clearance. Bret . Bret you heard the president saying general kelly will make that call. The chief of staff. All the talk about whether general kelly is staying or going, what is the inside scuttlebutt . The inside scuttlebutt is that his job is safe. You know, one person told me a while ago that you have a player who stays out until 4 00 in the morning and you bench him and that player were to be tom brady, that player would not get benched and im told that arnold here, john kelly is tom brady. Bret good analogy. Thank you. A passenger vehicle struck a security barrier at the white house this afternoon. The secret Service Tweets the vehicle did not breach the security barrier of the white house complex. It says no shots were fired during that incident. And the female driver of the vehicle was immediately apprehended. Secret service also saying the woman is someone of record with the service. On multiple occasions. Law enforcement sources say she suffers from mental problems. A few minutes ago, President Trump tweeted his thanks to the secret service for a job well done. A former Campaign Aide to President Trump is pleading guilty to conspiracy and tax charges brought by russias special counsel robert mueller. This comes as the former Trump Campaign chairman takes another legal hit. Here to straighten it all out, chief intelligence correspondent Catherine Herridge at the d. C. District court with details. Good evening. Thank you, bret. I was inside the courtroom when rick gates pled guilty to two felonies. He seemed remarkably calm throughout until the final minutes when he entered the guilty plea and sealed his fate with a special counsel. Gates pled guilty to conspiracy against the United States which is a basket of charges including bank and tax fraud, hiding income from the i. R. S. And failing to register for work on behalf of a pro Russian Party in the ukraine. The offenses span 2006 to 2014 but did not overlap with the Trump Campaign. On the second count, making a false statement to the f. B. I. , gates told investigators that a march 2013 meeting between a member of congress and his boss, former Trump Campaign chairman Paul Manafort did not include the topic of the ukraine when gates didnt know because he wasnt there. Manafort who was hit with more charges today related to his lobbying on behalf of ukraine said in a statement i hoped and expected my business colleague would have the strength to continue our bout to prove our innocence. This has not altered my commitment to defend myself against the untrue piled up charges contained in the indictments against me. As he left court today, gates did not answer reporters questions about whether he will testify against manafort. Court records show theres a standard Cooperation Agreement but theres no evidence gates is already helping the special counsel. Gates now becomes the fifth person to plead guilty in the wide ranging russian probe and hes facing several years in federal jail as well as up to 200,000 in fines but all of that could be dramatically reduced if theres potential cooperation threat. Bret thank you. Students, parents, teachers and Community Members are asking some hard questions tonight about last weeks shooting in south florida. Those questions come as we learn more about what the Florida House speaker calls an abject breakdown at all levels. Correspondent phil keating has the latest tonight from parkland, florida. My laptop was still there. You know, ungraded papers that were still there. For the First Time Since 150 bullets were flying during the valentines day attack, teachers were allowed to return to Stoneman Douglas high to retrieve personal items abandoned in the panic. There was hugging. There was hugging and some tears. Handshakes and glad youre back. Glad youre back. I dont know. I had enough hugs to last me, you know, a lifetime today. This as disbelief and disappointment raged nationwide after the revelation that as the shooting was happening, the high schools resource officer ran to the freshman Building Armed with a gun but never barged inside. That officer, scott peterson, a 30year veteran who was awarded best School Resource officer four years ago for his tact and good judgment, according to Broward County sheriff, he had neither when it mattered the most. Went in. Addressed the killer. Killed the killer. Another misstep at the scene, officers who thought they were watching a live feed of the shooter instead were watching delayed security footage. The sheriff also has suspended two of his deputies who responded to some of the 20 plus calls for service to deal with a volatile nikolas cruz in the last few years. One of the instances involves a claim that he planned to shoot up a school. And just months ago 911 emergency . One of the dispatched calls made by the confessed mass killer himself. This time suggesting he was a victim. Anyone pull a gun or anything on you . No. They tried to i kind of got mad and i started punching walls and stuff. And then a kid [beep] came at me and threw me on the ground. And some of the First Responders to the chaotic scene last week came from Coral Springs p. D. Speaking for the first time, officer Jeff Heinrich who was offduty at the time rushed in as a cop, as a father of a student, and husband of the schools assistant athletic director. By the grace of god, when i walked down the highway, they found each other. They were able to shelter in place. And Florida Republican governor rick scott today unveiling a half billion dollars School Safety plan. Three point action plan dealing with modifying gun laws, improving how we deal with mental instability and also addressing School Safety, for example, making sure there is at least one armed officer for every 1,000 students at every school in the state. As for the stoneman Douglas High School students, they return here on wednesday officially getting back to school and getting back to their classrooms to finish off this now forever scarred semester. Bret . Bret thanks. Now back to cpac in suburban washington. Conservatives gathered across the potomac in maryland. Theyre not only listening to some of their ideological leaders, theyre getting handson training in activism. Correspondent peter doosey reports on grassroots training. Republicans know they have a mammoth midterm challenge ahead because 2018 is a doover for democrats. We have seen energy on the democrats side. They thought they were going to anoint us in 2016. Theyre ready to come at the midterms and hopefully take back the majority. We have to be just as energized. I expect a turnout in a lot of states. The president is predicting a problem for his party. So people are sitting there and theyre saying, we just had lets not vote. Lets go to a movie. The Republican Party, were going to do great and then they end up losing. So you got to keep up the enthusiasm. So cpac hosted an activists boot camp to share strategy. Senate hopefuls are refining their pitches to keep republicans interested. Michigans john james, veteran and businessman thinks casting a wide net will help him unseat a senator. For support and protect the constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic and that requires firing up our base without alienating traditional republicans and make sure we hold democrats in the state of michigan accountable for their misdeeds and neglect. Arizonas dr. Kelly ward running to replace senator jeff flake mans to highlight her status as an outsider. We as republicans have to give our electorate candidates that inspire them to go to the polls. And ohio businessman mike gibbons hoping to unseat senator shared brown plans to make his campaign a tribute to trump. I live in cleveland, ohio, where trump didnt do too well. Throw a rock out of window in cleveland, chances is youll hit a democrat. The rest of the state does not feel that way. Donald trump would win ohio by a bigger margin than he took the last one. So President Trumps record is the thing that conservative candidates think will carry them all the way to washington. And there is not much talk about the group about things they wish President Trump could be doing differently or should be doing differently to help their chances more. Instead, these candidates seem content that what the president has done to date could be enough. Bret . Live at cpac. Peter, thanks. A big friday on wall street. The dow surged 347 1 2. The s p500 finished ahead 43. The nasdaq had a great day jumping 127. For the week, the dow was up a third of a percentage point. S p500 gained a half. The nasdaq shot up 1 1 3. Just one stock, amazon today, up 14. 66. To close at 1,500. That means for jeff bazos, the head of amazon, he made a billion dollars today. His overall wealth estimated at 124 billion. President is threatening to pull federal immigration agents out of california. Its the latest threat in his ongoing war with the golden state over illegal immigration. And its sanctuary policy. Correspondent will carr tells us more from los angeles tonight. We want our cities to be sanctuaries for lawabiding americans. Not for criminals. During his cpac speech, President Trump lambasted cities and states that protect Illegal Immigrants against citizens. Theyre against safety. The comments come on the heels of the president openly questioning if he should pull ice agents out of california, the blue state that continues to fight the administration at nearly every turn. One President Trump believes is not doing enough to crack down on the viciously violent ms13 gang. In california, we ever said hey, let california alone and let them figure it out for themselves. In two months, theyd be begging for us to come back. They would be begging. And you know what . Im thinking about doing it. Its unclear how that policy would be implemented. The port of entry near san diego is the largest in the country and is packed with federal agents. Hes clearly sending some messages not just to california but also to congress. So i feel quite certain that well get it all worked out. That message met with defiance from leaders in california including Los Angeles Mayor eric garceti. Were into actions and too busy doing work to protect people on the streets of los angeles to worry about empty threats. And senator Dianne Feinstein firing back on twitter, the president s obsession with california is growing more outrageous by the day. His attacks are not only mean spirited theyre patently false. Late last month, ice raided more than 70 businesses in northern california. Latest example of a stepped up federal push to enforce immigration laws. President trump and california clash over a variety of other issues as well since he took office including the border wall, tax reform, marijuana and offshore drilling. Bret . Bret will carr in los angeles. Thanks. President trump is also calling on mexico to block ms13 gang members from traveling through their country on the way to the u. S. The president says federal agents are removing gang members by the thousands. But he tweets these killers come back in from el salvador and through mexico like water. Up next, talk of atrocities and war crimes as civilians are slaughtered in syria. First, heres some of our fox affiliates across the country are covering tonight. Fox 11 in green bay, passenger jet skids off the runway earlier this morning. The flight was diverted from minnesota because of heavy snow. Officials say no injuries were reported among the 180 passengers and seven crew members. Fox 10 in phoenix says arizonas governor asks residents to prepare for a bad wildfire season because of dry winter weather. Hes asking people to be extra cautious. Earlier this month, the governor asked to double state Fire Prevention funding from 1 million to 2 million. And this is a live look at l. A. X. In los angeles from fox 11. One of the big stories there tonight, a Court Appearance for the parents charged with torturing their children by starving, beating and shackling them. Bret President Trump is condemning the continuing assaults on Syrian Rebels outside damascus. More killing today. With the death toll for the week now eclipsing 400. On the story from our middle east newsroom. Relentlessly day and night and the Syrian Civil War is at its peek. At least 426 people including 98 children have been killed since sunday after the Syrian Government backed by iran and russia launched a new offensive. What russia and what iran and what syria have done recently is a humanitarian disgrace. The 400,000 residents have been starved and bombs have struck more than a dozen hospitals. Trying to end the situation in syria by force and this is the only language that he knows. Two days ago, the u. N. Security Council Called for a resolution aiming at a 30day ceasefire to allow for evacuations of the sick and the convoys of aid to get in. But russia has repeatedly blocked and delayed. Now, arguing over the wording. It lies to the east of damascus and where the sarin gas attack took place in 2013. That was meant to be the red line for President Trump president obama. Now, families are dying again. I have nowhere to bury my son. Russian planes have destroyed everything. President assads campaign has been celebrated in some parts of syria and he insists hes attacking terrorists. But as bombs flatten the whole area, few around the world believe him. Frances ambassador has pointed the finger at the u. N. Saying failure to act now would be the death knell of the United Nations itself. Bret . Bret benjamin, thank you. The Trump Administration is considering a perspective offer from republican donor adelson to pay for the soon to be relocated embassy in jerusalem. There are questions about whether that would be permitted or politically wise. And how fast it will happen. Correspondent rich edson is here tonight with that. Good evening. Good evening, bret. And state Department Attorneys are looking into it, whether an american citizen can legally help pay for a United States embassy. The state Department Official tells fox news that the government has received no official offer from Sheldon Adelson and no formal discussions about the donation though the officials refuse to rule out informal or unofficial talks or offers between the two. They claim the donation from a profoundly pro israel republican donor would allow other politically active groups to follow and inject more politics into an already sensitive situation. This as state Department Officials say secretary tillerson has just approved a security plan to open the u. S. Embassy in an existing facility in jerusalem by may. In time for the 70th anniversary of the state of israel, well ahead of the administrations 2019 target, and fulfilling a president ial campaign promise. Right thing to do. We have to do it. But every other president really lied because they campaigned on it. That was always a big part of the campaign. Then they got into office. They never did it. The official stresses the new u. S. Embassy will only have a footprint in jerusalem by may. With the target still of opening a larger presence there by the end of 2019. The state Department Says initially, the interim embassy will have an office for the ambassador and a small staff. Officials say separately, the state department is looking for a site to build a permanent u. S. Embassy in jerusalem. A longer term project. Bret . Bret rich, thanks. Up next, a rising star in the Republican Party becomes a shooting star. Perhaps about to crash to earth, well explain. First, beyond our borders tonight. Parents in nigeria say more than 100 girls are still missing three days after suspected terrorists attacked their school. And the leaders of the European Union are meeting in brussels to try to figure out how to make up for a huge budget shortfall when Great Britain leaves the group. Bret a former navy seal once considered a rising star in the Republican Party is hearing calls for his resignation tonight. Missouri governor is facing a felony invasion of privacy charge in an already messy narrative about an affair with a st. Louis hairdresser. Senior correspondent mike tobin tells us where things stand right now. Republican Eric Greitens on thursday joined the fraternity of governors with mug shots. He insists hes not guilty and rather a victim a reckless liberal prosecutor. Thank you the charges against the governor are baseless and unfounded. Eric is absolutely innocent of these charges. And well be filing a motion to dismiss very shortly. The indictment goes back to a 2015 affair with a hairdresser before greitens was a candidate. With her consent, the still unidentified woman was tied to a piece of exercise equipment and blindfolded but in a conversation recorded by her now exhusband without her knowledge, the mistress said greitens took a picture of her partially nude and that was without her consent. Blindfolded. Never going to mention my name. The threat would amount to a misdemeanor. However, the circuit attorney said the case fit the felony invasion of privacy statute because the picture was transferred to a computer. Greitens was a Lieutenant Commander in the navy seals but fellow frogmen that spoke to fox did not vouch for his character. One seal wrote he always had questionable motives and never considered a member of the seal brotherhood. His agenda was about himself and not the team. We tried to warn the good people of missouri but, unfortunately, our voices were not heard. Hes not responded to those allegations. The governor has publicly owned up to the affair but only admitted wrongdoing on a personal level. Greitens says he has no intention of resigning but missouri lawmakers are launching an investigation and even republicans in the statehouse are using the word impeachment. Bret . Bret thank you. In tonights whatever happened to segment, the judge, the defendant and the sentence from a Sexual Assault case that sparked a major backlash that feeds into todays me, too movement. Correspondent Claudia Cowan reports from california. It was the sentence condemned around the world as a slap on the wrist for a privileged white sexual offender at an elite university. In 2016, judge aaron persky gave the 18yearold stanford swimmer and freshman six months in jail for sexually assaulting a woman that passed out behind a dumpster near a campus frat party. Victim personified what later became widely known as the me, too movement when she read an emotional statement in court hurling venom at her accuser. You have dragged me through this hell with you and encouraging survivors of the Sexual Assault to seek justice. Turner served three months in jail and has to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. Now, 22, hes appealing his conviction while living with his family in ohio. While he cant be retried, activists have targeted judge persky through a june 5th recall election. We think that the people of this county deserve a judge who has good judgment, who understands sexual violence, who takes this seriously and who will protect women, not perpetrators. Critics also allege the lenient sentence exposed an Old Boy Network bias like turner, persky was a College Athlete at stanford. In fact, his ruling was on the high end of a probation reports recommendation of four to six months. California law requires every judge to consider rehabilitation and probation for first time offenders. The judge wrote in a statement to the registrar of voters defending himself. Its not always popular but its the law and i took an oath to follow it. Some legal observers now worry about a recall ripple effect. The recall will say to judges, future judges and judges sitting on the bench, popular opinion is going to really influence, you know, were watching you and were going to if we dont like what youve done, were going to come in waving the recall papers at you, too. This case has led to a new sentencing law and a hard alcohol ban here at stanford. Judge persky has voluntarily left his position presiding over criminal cases and now works in an on call basis frequently hearing civil cases at night. And hoping not to become the first california judge to be recalled from the bench in 87 years. Bret . Bret claudia, thank you. The navy is investigating allegations of a drug ring at the Naval Academy in annapolis, maryland. A Senior Academy official tells fox news the probe involves roughly 10 midshipmen. Remember, thats the democrat version of the memo released by the majority nunez. Adam shiff putting out their own version. There was concern about that it needed redactions and theres a chance it wont be. Its likely its coming out much the white house has been working with the Justice Department and the f. B. I. We dont want people that are mentally ill to be having any form of weaponry. The democrats are being totally unresponsive. They dont want to do anything about daca. Im telling you. And its very possible that daca wont happen. North korea, we imposed today the heaviest sanctions ever imposed on a country before. Bret President Trump at cpac today. That speech was like catnip for that crowd. It was the let trump be trump essentially the folks who say he needs to be unplugged and do those campaign speeches. They won the day. Because he did. And it was an hour and 14 minutes. There was a lot to unpack in that speech. And other news today, but one of the big items was north koreas sanctions and what the administration is doing. Heres the treasury secretary. Our actions target shipping and trade companies. Vessels and individuals across the world who we know are working on north koreas behalf and we are issuing a Global Shipping advisory in conjunction with the coast guard and the state department to put everyone on notice of north koreas illicit maritime tactics and underscore the significant sanctions risk of engaging in maritime business with north korea. Its already the most sanctioned country in the world. Now more so from the u. S. Point of view. Lets bring in our panel, byron york, chief Political Correspondent of the washington examiner. A. B. Stabbed order, host of no labels radio on sirius xm. And jason riley. Lets start with north korea. Significant different tone big move today . Not to hear the president s speech. This was a very, very trumpy speech and it went all over the place. And the extraordinary thing about the north korea part of the speech is he almost forgot to put it in. Bret the white house officials were touting it this morning. Here it comes. Here it comes. Exactly. In the leadup to the speech, they were saying this is going to be the big news. You listen and an hour goes by, hour 10 minutes and hes wrapping up about to say goodbye and says, oh, north korea. Were going to impose really strong sanctions. Goodbye, everybody. But they are serious in the sense that this is another step. And we often hear that weve done everything we can to north korea. We really havent and these are additional sanctions that might have an effect. It also comes as ivanka trump lands in south korea with a specific message, obviously today with this sanctions levying as mike pence, the Vice President did not have a meeting with the north koreaens when he was there. The timing is no accident. Ivanka trump is there and being hosted by the president moon from south korea that has been trying to engage the north. I think the message from the north is engagement or no engagement, olympics or no olympics, we are going to continue to put pressure on north korea. And we saw last week how the media went gaga over the north korean leaders sister being at the olympics and so forth. Trump was saying i dont care about that. The white house says we dont care about that either. We dont care about those appearances. This is a dangerous regime trying to become a Nuclear Power and were going to keep the pressure on. Bret we havent seen sanctions move the needle that much. We have seen some movement in china. But not as much as the u. S. Wants to see. But is this going to work . Well, its always the question of whether or not these are enforceable. And the regime in north korea has so many ways to criminal conduct to do runarounds and work arounds of most of the sanctions. Right now, theyre under pressure from sanctions on oil so this is why were going after the shipping industry to see what kind of work arounds they have going there. Theres always another country thats willing to help them in the dark of night. The chinese. I think what the administration has gotten the chinese to do so far if enforced is very consequential. This is very aggressive. And i think we should all give them a lot of credit for that. The answer to the question whether or not its enforceable and ultimately consequential, we dont know. Bret you mentioned he did have his campaign mojo today. Doesnt fit everybodys cup of tea but definitely fits it with the cpac folks and supporters throughout the country in the middle of the country especially those states. Here he is on armed guards, did nothing earlier in the day. Talking about down in florida. When it came time to get in there and do something, he didnt have the courage or something happened but he certainly did a poor job. Id rather have somebody that loves this their students and wants to protect their students than somebody outside ha doesnt know anybody and doesnt know the students, the teachers and the coaches and other people in the building, the dean, the assistant dean, the principal, they can they love their people. They want to protect these kids. What do you think . Thats classic trump communication. On guns, he did talk about background checks. He talked about Mental Health issues and the one thing he didnt talk about is something hes been saying the last couple of days is raising the age to buy a long gun to equal that of buying a handgun. You had to be 21 to buy a handgun. You can buy a long gun like the ar15 at 18. A lot of talk about raising that to 21. The n. R. A. Doesnt like it but the president has specifically said in the last couple of days that he does like the idea. But he said nothing about it out of this hour and 14 minutes speech. Bret jason . I think he has a good point about the gunfree zones and the mass shooters targeting us. Theres a reason that you dont get a lot of Mass Shootings at n. R. A. Conventions, for example, even among mentally ill people. They seem to know better. There is something to that. The background check thing, i think theres bipartisan support for that. Raising the age, i think the n. R. A. Has a good point here. A lot of these mass shooters that are under age use their parents weapons or find other adults. That was the case in sandy hook. Im not sure that is going to be a big game changer. But i do think that the Mental Health issue is a very real one. There are a lot of hundreds of millions of guns out there. We need to make sure theyre not getting into the right hands. We need to make sure that the f. B. I. And the other intelligence agencies have protocols in place to respond to the red flags when we get them. And there was definitely a failure on his part. Bret quickly, we talked about it all week what congress will or wont do. Mostly on the wont. Lets look at this. President trump has a different plan for the crowd at cpac than he does earlier in the week. By the Time Congress comes back next week, i think the president will stick on School Safety and not be talking about comprehensive background checks which they have no idea what hes talking about. Until and when he wants to push for Something Like a new age restriction, i dont think hes making it clear what hes really willing to give on. And they are not going to give unless pushed by this president. It is on him to lead the republicans. They are in an Election Year and they are not going to do this. Unless he insists on it. Bret he potentially could provide coverage if he so chooses to some of those people. As of today, were not sure what hes doing. Bret next up, friday lightning round. Let your inner light loose with one a day womens. A complete multivitamin specially formulated with key Nutrients Plus vitamin d for bone health support. Your one a day is showing. You tthey made a mistake. Ompany the check they sent isnt enough to replace your totaled new car. The guy says they didnt make the mistake. You made the mistake. I beg your pardon . He says, you should have chosen fullcar replacement. Excuse me . Let me be frank, he says you picked the wrong insurance plan. no. I picked the wrong insurance company. with Liberty Mutual new car replacementâ„¢, well replace the full value of your car plus depreciation. Liberty stands with youâ„¢. Liberty mutual insurance. Your chief of staff general kelly has recommended ending the practice of granting interim security clearances to members of the Trump Administration. If that proceeds, would you be willing to grant a waiver to Jared Kushner, one of your senior advisors . Its a broken system and it shouldnt take this long. You know how many people are on that list. People with not a problem in the world so that will be up to general kelly. General kelly respects jared a lot. And general kelly will make that call. I wont make that call. Bret lightning round. The security clearance issue right now, Jared Kushner has an interim clearance and general kelly, chief of staff had said thats eventually going to come to an end. But will it . Were back with the panel. Byron . Forgive me for thinking the president s soninlaw is going to keep his security clearance. I think thats kind of the message that we got from the president today. Although one thing that i think maybe we havent thought of as much before is part of the clearance process could be tied up in the f. B. I. Investigation with the Mueller Investigation so you got kushner in the middle of all sorts of different things. Bret yeah, we dont know whats being investigateed and what the holdup really is and why this is no small rule breaking. The reporting this afternoon is the Deputy Attorney general Rod Rosenstein spoke with the white House Counsel recently on february 9th about jareds security clearance problems and why hes ineligible and its tied town up to the flynn plea and conversations overseas during the transition. Its no small thing. We were discussing during the break, it sounded like a vote of confidence in general kelly from donald trump. Bret for all the writing that hes out the door, sounded like hes making some decisions still. Ok. Rick gates pleading guilty today. And it ties into the manafort situation, the Mueller Investigation. How significant and what does it tell us . This has to do with fraud. It has to do with changing documents in order to secure loans. It does not have anything to do with President Trump. It does not have anything to do with President Trumps campaign. And most importantly, it has nothing to do with what the central objective of muellers investigation is which is whether Trump Associates in the campaign were communicating with the russians in order to influence the election. Bret still serious indictments and pleading guilty to them clearly an effort to flip him against manafort. Bret, you could teach a College Course on the separate manafort charges. The fact that manafort wont flip is very consequential. Bob mueller is working very hard to use rick gates to fold and flip Paul Manafort and hes not budging so far. This only is a big deal if you believe that there is a secret unknown conspiracy between russia and the Trump Campaign conspiring to influence the election. If that exists, then putting pressure on manafort makes a lot of sense. If this is nailing manafort for all sorts of criminal activity, mostly several years ago, it doesnt affect the president much. Bret well have many more panels to talk about this and debate it all the time. We have months to go something tells me. Quickly, winners and losers. Winner first. The winner is neandrethal who has a bad reputation. We have a wall street journal report that two new studies shows that they had a very creative side, cognitive capacity for artistic expression. Who knew . Bret lose snloser . The real loser is the canadian Prime Minister justin trudeau, he traveled around with native american outfits that struck them as ridiculous. Is this just me or choreographed cuteness all a bit many . F. Y. I. , we indians dont dress this way anymore. Not even in bollywood. Bret winner and loser . My winner is President Trump for taking in the anger and anguish of the survivors and victims of the School Shooting this week. Competent in her job who said many in the legacy media love Mass Shootings because its ratings gold. Its not completely untrue as President Trump would say its sicko. Bret i will say the sheriff there knew his deputy didnt go in and really gave dana a tough time in that town hall. Keep going. My winner is the u. S. Olympic womens hockey team for their gold medal victory over canada ending a 20year drought and on a personal note, defenseman for the team is a fellow native of buffalo, new york. Congratulations to emily. My loser is the f. B. I. Again, for missing these red flags with the florida shooter. They have to do a better job of putting in place protocols to catch these. I know its tough. Social media and all the rest. Its the 21st century and we need our intelligence agencies up to speed. Bret thank you, panel. When we come back, notable quotables. Bret finally tonight, this weeks notable quotables. Many in legacy media love Mass Shootings. Crying white mothers are ratings gold. A gunfree zone is lets go in and lets attack because bullets arent coming back at us. I decided to suspend scott peterson. What should he have done . Went, in addressed the killer. Killed the killer. I dont understand why i could still go in a store and buy a weapon of war. Copy cats are common. We are going to teach the teachers. We are going to give them a conceal carry permit when they are done. We dont have to wonder why the party of nancy pelosi and Chuck Schumer won the house and the senate. This is a blatant power grab by the Supreme Court that seems hell bent on he has been tougher on russia in the first year than obama was in eight years combined. They were doing business overseas with a number of what we call bad hombres, russian oligarch. This had nothing to do with the Trump Campaign. I try like hell to hide that bald spot, folks. I work hard at it. Im a believer in jesus christ and im looking forward to the time we are going to spend together for eternity. Bret one week, folks. Thanks for inviting us into your home tonight. Thats it for this special report, fair, balanced and still unafraid. Story hosted by Martha Maccallum starts right now. Martha . Martha good evening, bret. Thanks a lot. Tonight story when President Trump was candidate trump back in 2016, the republican nominee had just won 10 primary races. But he couldnt even show up to speak at cpac. Members threatened to walk out if he took the podium. Aruba anrubio and cruz won the w poll. They didnt trust trump. What a difference winning can makes a trump might say and today while rick gates once Deputy Campaign chair pleaded guilty, cpac was eating up vintage trumpism. Im thrilled to be back at cpac with so many of my wonderful friends and amazing supporters and proud conservatives
