Heres what Sarah Sanders said. Im not talking about the nature of the video. I think you are focusing on the wrong thing. The threat is real. The president is talking about the need for National Security, military spending, those are very real things. There is nothing fake about that. Bret what about it . To go there are times when he tweets things and i think the American People understand the deeper message. In this case, i dont think that message came through very well. President s and all people but president s in particular have a responsibility to check the veracity of what they are tweeting and to think about whether its inflammatory. There are really important issues dealing with border security, dealing with cultural issues. There are many problems with treatment of religious minorities in the middle east. Bret radical islam is clearly a threat, however this is not a good way to treat the serious issues. There is a perspective that he says something outlandish to get people talking but this miss the mark. Bret the one video that was said to show a young muslim boy attacking another, the netherlands saying facts do matter. The perpetrator in the video was born and raised in netherlands. He received and completed his sentence under dutch law. The interesting thing from my perspective is that this is the second day in a row trumps twitter account has a blown out from what we predicted the day would look like. Yesterday, we came in thinking there was going to be a big meeting with the president and congressional leaders, and he tweeted something at nancy pelosi and Chuck Schumer and said i dont think there is a deal. They didnt go to the meeting and that change the entire day. The headlines changed completely. Bret let me interrupt. It seemed like he won that back and forth about the empty chairs on the whole thing. Conservatives applauded him. They were thrilled. Today you seem to eat something that has the opposite effect where republicans want to keep the discussions on taxes right now. They are close to something. This could be a huge victory for them. A lot of people are talking about these tweets unfortunately for republicans. Bret lets go back to taxes and listen to what the democrats said today. Lets hope and pray, middleclass people, that when we give most of the brakes to the wealthiest and biggest corporations that you might get a few crumbs. Tell the American People, tell us you are not going to cut social security, medicare, medicaid and education in order to deal with the 1. 4 trillion deficit. Bret a couple things. One is, number of democrats have found a new concern for the deficit and debt that was not there before. Number two, there was never a democrat proposal for any kind of tax reform despite saying republicans blocked them out of the process. No, and thats the voice they are of 48 votes. Its not going to cut it. I think the news today is that republicans seem to be getting closer to yes on a lot of things. This trigger bob corker wants it would raise taxes if the bill doesnt produce economic growth. Or cut, cut taxes. Bret know, or cut spending. Yeah, ron johnsons demand for something that deals more fairly with passthrough businesses, that sort of thing, they are making progress on. They dont have it written down. Its not signed yet but it appears maybe john mccain is off the on the side but it appears the rest of them are moving toward voting for the bill. Bret we should point out, senator wyden talking there, they are in the process of getting to this point where they will debate the actual substance of the bill for 20 hours. The senate well, before voting on it. Yeah, so theres been progress. Something interesting was the New York Times opinion page took over their social media account and asked everybody to call Susan Collins and get her to not vote in favor of the tax bill. She really is something of a linchpin to its success or failure. If she votes for it, its hard to see where opponents get three republicans to not to vote against it. If shes against it, its easier for them to defeat it. I want to point out that while democrats might have concerned about the deficit, it seems republicans have a newfound lack of concern about the deficit. Bret rachel, where are we, broad picture and is it possible the senate, if they manage to get their ducks in a row and pass something, then the house would rubberstamp the Senate Version without going to conference committee. Speaker paul ryan has said and insisted they are going to go to conference, and a lot of republicans have told me they are counting on it. Somebody told me 100 we are going to conference. I do not think the house will rubberstamp it. Bret they might have to stay later. We could be here on christma christmas. After the senate passes, the house and senate will have to negotiate and come up with one bill and pass it again through both chambers. Thats going to take a few weeks. I agree with byron that they have made progress in terms of winning over no votes. Some of the changes theyve made have also repelled some supporters. We saw a lot of conservative groups come out against this idea of a trigger, this notion that if the tax cuts dont grow the economy, you might see potentially tax hikes or spending cuts, whatever it ends up being. Some people dont like that. Another thing, increase in the Small Business tax cuts, the pastor is. That won steve daines of montana but it could repel John Mccain John mccain.
