Colorado you would do the same thing, that is a race thats extremely tight, it has been getting tighter. Cory gardner is up, as you see in the real clear politics average. But its been closing as of late in part because of the incumbent, senator mark udall has brought in a lot of firepower to stir up the base. You want a shared future with shared responsibilities and shared prosperity, you have to elect mark udall, you got to send him back to the senate. The big question in colorado, ground game and getting that vote out so that will likely make the difference in that race. As you look across the country, arkansas, you would put that in the republicans column as well. And west virginia. In louisiana, you cant move it yet, still blue, its a jungle primary as we have talked about many times, in other words there are a lot of people on the ballot down there. But in a runoff, it does not look good for the democrats in louisiana. Last night, the incumbent Mary Landrieu was asked whether if she went back to the senate she would vote for senator majority leader harry reid. Well see. I think harry reid gets beat up more than he deserves and im not saying yes and im not saying no. So in louisiana tonight, we would have to leave that blue, it is that jungle primary, Mary Landrieu in the lead, but its almost certainly going to lead to a runoff on december 6. As you look across the map, kansas, another interesting race, take a look at the real clear politics average of polls. Greg orman is up, just slightly. Pat roberts incumbent has closed the gap. Greg orman is wrong on the issues, but how orman made his millions is even more troubling. So roberts is trying hard to thai orman to the independerepu but you have to put him in the independents category. Now kansas is in the independents column, even just slightly. As you look across the map, you have georgia, North Carolina, very tight races, georgia could be heading for a runoff january 6, but the democrats could pull off the upset, Michelle Nunn there. Up in New Hampshire, tonight it would have to remain in the democrats column. Take a look at the latest polls, the real clear politics average of polls has it at 2. 2. This has closed dramatically in recent days, this is one to watch, carl cameron is on the ground, and well have a report for us in just a bit. Here is the map, as of tonight, if the election were held tonight, the republicans would control the u. S. Senate, 5148, that is with kansas, as independents and that would be probably 50 to 49, and then you would have louisiana in a runoff likely to go to the republicans. Thats the math as of tonight. Even though the president isnt on the ballot, his fingerprints are all over this election, all over this map to the delight of republicans and the dismay of democrats. Chief White House Correspondent ed henry has more. Reporter moments before president obama launched his sustained stretch on the campaign trail of the year, he was sure to give a nod to one of several crises like ebola. America cannot look like it is shying away because other people are watching what we do. And if we dont have Robust International response in west africa, then we are actually endangering ourselves here back home. Some senate democratslike Jeanne Shaheen have declared they would like to have them stuck in washington. The president s final it tin rare for campaign and economic events starting today in wisconsin and running through sunday in pennsylvania includes six states with hotly contested gubernatorial races. You have every democrat in t the a new fox poll out tonight shows why the president has become so radioactive. Hiss Approval Rating is at 41 . Asked if the Obama Administration has been competent and effective in managing the government, 39 said yes, 59 said no. After stumbling on Hurricane Katrina and the iraq war, george w. Bush found himself on similar footing during his last midterm elections where candidates only warmed him to help raise Campaign Cash in private. In the 2006 cycle was only used for public rallies with candidates in ten states, while this year the president has held 63 fundraisers and by sunday night will have only made appearances at 7 rallies. If we lose, were going to be pushed back another six to eight years. It will break eventually, but this is really important. Even Vice President joe biden is more trusted than the president on the trail for Senate Democratic candidates. Like bruce brale yooery, lockede of those too close to call battles in iowa. If bruce wins, and i think youre going to see us keep the United States senate, and if that happens, its going to break the back of the hard right, and youre going to see reasonable people on the Republican Party start to vote reasonably again. With the president not involved in the senate battle, one of the former secretary of state hillary clinton, this saturday alone shell be in kentucky and louisiana. Not just trying to save the senate, but also no doubt, some breaking news, late this afternoon, some precautions in washington. Homeland security secretary jay johnson ordering that all federal buildings around the country, not just in washington, they say this is just a precautionary step, not just the buildings, but u. S. Personnel around the country, one senior official telling us, look, we know that isis has said they want to retaliate geagainst the west after these air strooirike iraq and syria. This is ten days before the election where theyre putting out an alert saying we could get hit with a terror attack. Theyre not saying theres an active plot, but theyre watching all the intelligence and the chatter out there very closely. Tracking the elections tonight, one of the Pivotal Senate races we have been watching all year is in New Hampshire, if hit, the democrat trying to distance herself from an unpopular president against a republican trying to distance himself from the characterization of being a carpet bagger. Carl cameron is in manchester, New Hampshire tonight. At a child dinner with firefighters and only a few open seats last night. Jeanne shaheen, a 30year veteran of New Hampshire politics used the controversial issue of her republican rival amounted to an illegal alien who should be denied industry. We should have let this guy sneak over the border, you notice some of us have been discussing Border Security in this campaign. Clearly we didnt do enough to secure the southern border of New Hampshire. Brown says he has a sense of humor but says that Jeanne Shaheen has not taken the issue of Border Security seriously. Im going to continue to bring that message to the people an will to their krashl fears about brown says he was born at the Naval Shipyards which is actually over the stateline in maine. He was still the winner of a special election to finish the late ted kennedys special term. Browns prochoice and prides himself on by partisanship, by contrast, shaheen has been among her president and partys most reliable soldiers. If youre happy on the direction that were going on right now, thrown you should vote for senator shaheen. I want the United States to be respected, feared and i want to have to the ability to be the leader and help restore america. Reporters and scott brown keep wanting to make this race about the president , this race is about New Hampshire. The debate has ranged from jobs to ebola, the border to health care, syria to ferguson. The final sprint suggests shaheen is really about partisanship. Were dealing with threats to our way of life, and Jeanne Shaheen continues to vote with president obama 99 of the time. She promised to be an independent but washington changed her. Reporter that reign also released her Closing Argument casting brown as a carpet bagger. I have never backed down from the people of New Hampshire. I didnt just move here, ive been here fighting for you, i would be honored to have your vote. Polls show this race is a dead heat, both campaigns know undecideds almost always make up their minds in the last weekends. Some polls suggest that momentum may be shifting his way, meaning he could be heading back to washington to represent New Hampshire in the senate. He had represented two states in the senate in less than a sixyear span of a senate term. Carl, thank you. Urgent concerns about what president obama might do after the election concerning immigration. Immigration advocates believe that amnesty would result in increased scrutiny of immigrants, not less. We want a way for the 11 million undocumented people in the country to get good with the law, both the criminal background tax and start making progress to earn legal status. If president obama granted illegals amnesty during the Lame Duck Congress and if the republicans win the majority in both houses, congress would have the Constitutional Authority to repeal his executive order in the next session. This is an unmanned cargo mission. The ship held 5,000 pounds of supplies for the International Space station. This is actually an explosion that happened as it was listing off, the launch was supposed to happen last night, but an unauthorized vessel was in the air, so the launch was scrubbed, rescheduled for tonight, there you see the after math, the actual explosion is Pretty Amazing to watch, as it pretty much made a cloud of fire as it was getting ready to take off, it exploded, no one was hurt, as far as you can see, its just a big scrub of this mission entirely. Well get back as we get. Welcome back to americas election headquarters, were just a week away from voting day, and that means that depending on which state you live in, aye may be overrun reporter North Carolinas kay hagan pollster frank luntz had a focus group, youll see republicans in red, democrats in green. Show why should a woman get paid less than a man for the same job . The same pay to the same work. But tom tillis said no. He led the effort in a state house to kill equal pay for women. Tillis doesnt understand, working women help support their family. Under tom tillis, the rich get big tax breaks. The republicans gave it a good top score, 61, slightly higher than democrats at 57. The speaker made no issue to push it. Tillis did push a tax bill that would lower rates for everyone, but with more of the benefits going to the wealthy. A a and. There was one and what has happened at that that was scheduled early in the day and then votes were scheduled and that hearing then had to be postponed later that day. So yes, i did miss that one. She skipped the hearing for a funding raiser. The ad didnt play well with republicans who gave it a score of 5 or democrats at 38. Voters in North Carolina are more concerned about pay inequality than they are whether their incumbent senator missed a hearing, particularly when there was no consequence. The ad portrayed two very different images of kay hagan, the one worried about less than equal pay or vigilance for terrorism. Everyones watching the tight u. S. Senate race in colorado between the incumbent democrat mark udall and his republican challenger cory gardner. That includes the owner of red ranches in colorado. As a child he dreamed of being a cowboy. Now hes reached that goal and he has discover trds a lot of politics involved in ranches. I deal with several Government Agencies almost daily, if not daily, weekly. One thing roberts never dreamed of when he wanted to be a cow by, how much time he would spend dealing with Government Agencies on the phone. I spend a lot of time in my office dealing with the National Forest service, the state land board. His biggest obstacle is environmental regulation, he used to raise sheep along with his cattle, but lost his sleep permit due to government policies. And he worries that his senator, democrat mark udall is more attuned to the concerns of environmentalists than those of ranchers. Udall has sponsored significant environmental legislation and among hiss top donors are environmental activist groups. He comes from boulder, colorado, those are his constituents and he kind of follows that line. Senator reed is from the west, he understands the importance of the ag seg for. Im merely making the case that we need to back off and we need to work with the ag sector. Cory gardner wants to exploit udalls ties to environmental regulation. The government has gotten more involved, epa has gotten more involved, threat to regulate dust off dirt roads and now regulating every molecule of water that a farmer will have to deal with and address. He supported president obama 99 of the time. And when it comes to protecti protectinging a sure in this state, hes missing the mark. Just a week to go before the midterm elections, we will talk about that final week with a special panel here in new york after a quick break. Test test. Test test. Test test. Back to the breaking news, nasas rocket has exploded shortly after liftoff from wallace island, virginia. Take a look at these images coming in just moments ago. And launch team, launch team be advised, stay at your consoles. Maintain your positions in the consoles. Maintain position at your con stole. This is a commercial unmanned cargo mission. And were told no one was hurt. This ship contained more than 5,000 pounds of supplies for the International Space station, an amazing shot there, the launch was supposed to happen last night and they tried tonight and you saw what happened, going up in an amazing explosion. Fortunately no one was hurt. Were going to talk politics, turn now to some breaking news in politics, some new fox polls on the president s policies on the ballot. If president obamas policies were on the november ballot, how would you be for them or against them . And we see that the breakdown, 58 against, 36 for and you also see a lot of candidates around the country using this administration and this president in their ads. With that lets bring in our panel in new york. Rich lowry, phillip bunk political reporter for the post being here. A little rocket introduction there, so, rich, what about the status of things. I have talked to a lot of republicans and power of incumbency and relying on a family name and maybe a get out the vote operation to try to eke their heads above water despite that environment. But talk to republicans, theres a dispute, that the groound gooi ground game is really going to change, maybe two or three points in some of these things. I dont think its a mistake that either party is campaigning for many months. It is conventional wisdom that people dont start to Pay Attention to these midterm elections until around labor day, but really the reason youre seeing some of these polls tightening up is because these polls closing one thing i would say is there is a notion that this election has been about nothing, but president obama said its about my policies and its about me and its about the direction of the country. And the polls you just mentioned is that people across the country believe that. Democrats and republicans get more people to the polls and right now, it favors republicans but not by much. I think thats exactly right, the fact that president obamas approval is so low, septemberly so low, matching the numbers we just saw on there. Its difficult because the president clearly wants to get out there and campaign, thats what he knows well, thats what he loves to do. I think theres a great piece by matthew dodd, when he talks about that could actually be valuable because people have already made up their minds about kbaum. That people could go out there and energize the democrats because people dont care that much about these elections, candidates dont want them to. Do you think that he can fire up the base . The video was in maryland and the story out of that event, with the Lieutenant Governor is that people were walking out of the venue as the president spoke. Im very skeptical of the president as a turnout draw himself, even when he was much more popular, we would see him go into individual races at the beginning of these races where he was supposed to be the big difference make everything and it was kind of a global concern for democrats. Can those marginal became voters be turned out without obama on the ballot . And that is very much in doubt still. Im talking about the issue of immigration. One race in which its coming up, repeatedly is New Hampshire. Take a listen to this. These guys sneaking over the border, you probably notice that we have been debating Border Security in the campaign. Clearly we didnt do enough to secure the southern border of New Hampshire. Im going to continue to bring that message to the people and listen to their rational fears about this real issue. I think that was one of the things that you find in these races that is scott brown found an issue on immigration that people that are inclined to vote for him are motivated by and so it just depends on where you are, what that issue is going to be, immigration is one of them and part of that is the president has continued to send very mixed signals, hes going to do something by executive order, wait, no hes not, no, he is. If the election really is about his policies, become something that people might factor into their decision. How much of that looming executive order and the ordering of green cards and that sort of thing is factoring into this electi election . I think its playing to some degree. The very specific details, broadly people are worried about immigration. You have scott brown running a very nationalized campaign, these are things we need to worry about. Jeanne shaheen, lets talk about whats going on in New Hampshire. New hampshire doesnt have to worry about people coming across the mexican border. Scott brown has seized on this. Theres a reason people are more concerned about this. It comes down to that choice for voters, do care got having a senator whos going to washington to talk about whats going on . You cant discount candidate quality, this guy is just a dream of a retail politician. Where you look at kansas, which should be just a complete lock for republicans this year, you have a longtime incumbent pat roberts, doesnt live in the state anymore, a lackluster campaigner and its tied. Where you have cory gardner who is the happy optimistic guy. And the democrat is the sour, mean old guy that usually the republicans are. Is there this worry in republicanland, about lucy and the football . Pulling the football away at the last minute . As a republican, i would rather have them in that position than overconfident and not sealing the deal. 2012 still hangs over this. There was a lot of a belief that 2012 was going to be a very different election. How many people are coming out. How early voting looks, trying to figure out is it going to happen again. Thank you, rich, coming up next, my colleagues from the Fox Business Network, join me to talk about the state of the u. S. Economy. The conference call. The ultimate arena for business. There you take a at a pretty good end of the month. Back with new panel from the Fox Business Network to talk about the u. S. Economy. Melissa francis host of money with melissa francis. Stuart varney, and liz claman anchor of countdown to the closing bell. That countdown was great today. Let me tell you something, does my hair look wind blown . We had the wind machines on watching the market start off really really well which is when stuart comes on the air. In the final hour, we got even better numbers, people were waiting on facebook earnings. The e earnings pictures actually looked good. Is that what it was. Earnings and the president came out and said nothing bad about ebola. He came out, interrupted the show and nothing really awful about ebola came out. So the markets just took off. You are not buying it. I respectfully disagree with my good friend and colleagues right here. No, no, no. This is the election. The republicans look like they are going to sweep the senate, investors love that because it might be a turning point for economic policy. Finally we may get the government off our back. We may expand private enterprise. Profits go up and that stock market goes up. Is that what happens yes. And you know im going to disagree with both of you guys. Because i think the fed is coming out with their statement tomorrow. I think there is a boogeyman out there right now its deflation. I hate too rain on your parade. We are talking about prices falling. We are already seeing n europe. Its sign of things in the economy. Good when prices come down because of technology. More plentiful so they are cheaper. Bad when prices go down because no one has any money. They dont feel secure and dont want to spend money on things. Fed is looking way below its target. They are going to talk about it tomorrow. Thats going to spark the market. Condition of the u. S. Economy. Its interesting to see how people perceive the economy now. Excellent now 1 good. 17 . Poor 33 . The most important issue facing the country economy. Again 43 . We see that a lot, stuart. The economy is not doing well. Prosperity has not returned six years of effort to bring back prosperity and it hasnt worked. I think its a policy failure. I think if those policies were turned around and he we got private enterprise invigorated again. I think that would make an enor difference to the economy. If the republicans sweep the senate, we have a chance some degree of tax reform and energy reform. Get those two, and youve got better growth. You listen to the president , lids, he can tick off a bunch of stats that the white house says this should be, you know, good stuff. Silver lining. I have never seen a worse Pr Department and this is why. If this were a republican president. Exact same data 300,000 plus job growth. Better data. Some of it mixed in with bad data. Up 197 since the president took over . Not asnot add as bad. Heres the problem with that Median Income has fallen since the president has been in office. The average person out there doesnt have as much money as they did before. One of the problems is everything thats been done in washington has boosted the stock market. Unfortunately, average americans out there got out when the stock market crashed. So, all of the wealth that you are talking about has only gone to the top 1 . But their 401 k s have been inflated. Im not here to defend the president because i think there has been some very messy behavior in washington. Stuart, if you get out of d. C. And you know he this because you profile these people on tv. Get out of dc and newark. You have job creation. Whoopi do. Government does not work. I stay is flat out unamerican. Give me private enterprise. You stimulate the private sector.
