Bret welcome to Special Report im bret baier in new york. We landed from riyadh it morning after our interview with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman. Thought israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu joins us to respond to that interview, talk about the talks and other topics. First the other headlines today. The president s Press Secretary says the massive surge at the southern border this week is a result of House Republicans blocking President Bidens efforts at reform. Felony bribery charges brought against new jersey democratic senator bob menendez and his wife. The senator is accused of using Foreign Affairs influence to help egypt in return from bribes from the authoritarian regime. And menendez says he is being falsely accused. The United Auto Workers is expanding its strike against detroit vehicle makers. The union is staging walkouts in 38 locations encompassing 20 states, ford is being spared additional strikes because it has met some of the unions demands. Representatives of striking entertainment industry, writers and producers, are meeting with Studio Executives for a Third Straight day. Leading some to speculate a deto end the 144 day walkout. May be near. Wall streets worst week in six months closed on another. The dow lost 107. The s p 500 fell 10. The nasdaq dropped 12. For the week the dow was down almost 2 percentage points. The s p 500 lost almost 3. The nasdaq was off 3. 6666. Mr. Prime minister, thanks for the time. My pleasure. Always. We just got back from reaudit, i know you heard those words Saudi Crown Prince. What was your response . I was delighted to hear what he had to say, to borrow a phrase, i think we are getting closer to peace every day that passes. Bret you talked about it today in your u. N. Speech. You talked about pretty optimistically about it. I believe that we are at the cusp of an even more dramatic breakthrough. An historic peace between israel and saudi arabia. Yes, i did. Thats not to minimize the hurdles before us. But i think when you have three leaders and three countries that want a result. The United States, under President Biden, saudi arabia under the crown Prince Mohammed bin salman and israel under my premiership. I think that really raises the possibility that we will succeed. Bret here are the specific words he said. So you think if you were to characterize it, are you close . Everyday we get closer. It seems its for the first time serious. See how it goes. For us the palestinian issue is very important. We need to solve that part. Bret how do you solve that part . Are you willing to give concessions when it comes to the palestinians, specifically . I think the palestinians should be part of the process, but i dont think the palestinians should have a veto over the process. And the reason we didnt have for a quarter century any new Peace Treaties after we made peace with egypt . Jordan, we didnt 25 years a single new peace treaty everybody said first you have to satisfy whatever the ghafntedz palestinians are. You have got to conclude a peace treaty with the palestinians, well, there is only one problem with that the palestinians dont want peace israel peace instead of israel. They dont want a state next to israel. They want a state instead of israel. So that wasnt going to get us anywhere. In fact, the reason we got to the Abraham Accords is because we finally went around the Palestinian Veto and went to the arab capitals. I think it would be a grievous mistake to accept the Palestinian Veto. Benefit process. Im willing to consider ways they can benefit from the process without ever sacrificing our security or our national interest. But i think they can be part of protestor says but not have a veto power over the process. I said that about four times. I think i got my point across. Bret when you met with President Biden, did he specifically ask you to make concessions to the palestinians. We talked about it. Not concessions. We talked about we talked about this part of the possible agreement that we would have as well as other things. Bret the specifics about preserving the opportunity for a twostate solution or pledging to cut back on settlements or pledging not to annex the west bank. Those things specifically did he ask of you. Well, im not going to get into the particulars of the discussion, but he did say, if i can make a general thing, that he wanted to keep the option, the political option of two states open. He didnt i wouldnt go beyond that in detailing what we talked about. Bret in part of the negotiations right now. But, you have a coalition thats the first in eight decades that in the party platform, essentially, it calls for annexing the west bank, different words but thats essentially what it says. So, will you say that thats not going to happen to make this deal work . I will, first of all, not do anything to jeopardize israel security. But i also will what i think advance peace which serves in the long run israels security as well. I think there is a balancing act. The coalition is not the issue. The issue is what i believe are the important things for israels future. And not all my colleagues and partners have exactly the same view but ultimately they joined the likud. And i will cued joined them. I think when push comes to shove and we have historic agreement that changes the middle east, i think it changes the board. I think they will come on board. Come aboard on quite a few things there is a Mainstream Policy Directions under my government, under my leadership decides and i think they are responsible enough to go along and i think they will on this issue, too. Bret Zionist Party making clear that any normalization that includes compromises to the palestinians or the possibility of a palestinian state they would block. They are being vo vocal about it. Im not going to get into the internal discussions that we have either with the white house or with my Coalition Partners. You remember Woodrow Wilson the Great American president after world war i. He was in the Versailles Peace Conference and he declared i believe in open covenants openly arrived at . Where, i have a slight change to that i believe in open covenants secretly arrived at. And so i wont get into the machinations of either, you know, Coalition Politics or for that Matter International negotiation. But i think its doable. I think we can get there. Its going to be complex but you think you feel a real confidence that its going to happen . I feel a mission, bret. You know, i have to go a long way and i had these arguments with Coalition Partners and with political adversaries and the socalled International Experts and for many years we can get these four peace treats if we go around the Palestinian Veto. Nobody believed me and finally we did it and it worked. Today im tell you we can get we can overcome these hurdles and obstacles and get to a pivot of history, another enormous breakthrough of saudi, israeli peace that not only changes the middle east, creates a new middle east of peace and prosperity but also creates a corridor from asia to europe, india, ue, saudi arabia, jordan, israel and from there our mediterranean ports to all of you. Its an amazing transformation. Bret that rail and ports deal announced at the go20 you see that as really significant . I see that as part of the possibility. Energy pipelines that traverse the Arabian Peninsula. Of go through israel. Service europe. I think these are realistic things but the possibilities are real. And also, you know, changes the relationship between judaism and islam. Between the holy seat of judaism. Jerusalem. The holy seat of islam, mecca. And that radiates to a billion and more muslims. Thats historic shift. And i think its worth investing. Am i confident . I believe there is a greater chance that we will achieve it. But i will say this. I think that we have a window of opportunity. Its the next few months. If we dont achieve it in the next few months, we might delay by quite a few years. We probably in the end achieve it because it makes sense. If we want to seize the opportunity, this historic opportunity, we have to do it in a couple months. Whats your sense of the 8yearold saudi leader, Mohammed Bin Salman . Every think he has shown to be quite a visionary, both in the transformation of his own country and the larger picture that we share for transforming the middle east. I think thats visionary leadership. What other kind of leadership is useful . Nothing. If you just come in there to sit and change nothing and do nothing to improve the conditions of your people, your region and the world, go do something else. Bret al rabia took your speech today. Thats pretty significant. Can you imagine that . Can you imagine a speech of an israeli leader, you know, being broadcast live in saudi arabia . If they get one will you . If they get one, we have to get one for security reason and for balancing power. What do you think about that . I think they shouldnt get one. I think iran should be prevented in every possible manner from getting Nuclear Weapons. I have devoted the bulk of my Public Service as Prime Minister to prevent that from happening and we delayed it by quite a few years. The jury is still out. We have to do everything we can and the most important thing that we can do, aside from crippling sanctions against iran, snapping back has its commitments to s. To have a vebled Military Threat against iran. And so i dont think they should get it. And if they dont get it, we also will not be in this conundrum in other countries wanting to get Nuclear Weapons capability. Bret youre facing a lot of protests, a lot of pushback in your own country about this judicial reform effort. Will you abide by what happens in the Supreme Court, this case going forward, whatever comes out of the Israeli Supreme Court on this . We have also abided by the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court always abided by the law, the basic laws tha knesset, our parliament. This dual commitment should be kept. Bret you dont have a constitution but explaining to americans it is a checks and balances. Isnt the Supreme Court that check and balance. No. Bret if you control the executive and the legislative . No. In all democracies, you have balance between the will of the majority is reflected in the legislature and the executive and protecting minority and individual rights. So, which is supposedly the province of the court. In israel that balance has been changed over the last 25 years. And the court arrogated systematically all the powers of the or most of the powers of the executive and the legislative, what we are trying to do is bring back somewhat to a balance common in america and all the other western democracies. Bret but there are people who see this as a big shift. You say somewhat and you described it as a small shift. But you have 40 weeks of hundreds of thousands of people taking to the streets to protest this. You had your Attorney General refuse to defend this in court. And you hired Outside Counsel to do it. So it is splitting your country apart, isnt it, this issue . Its got two parts. Parts of the protest are overtly political. And they bring the government down. They dont care about the judicial reform. They want to use any pretext to try to to bring the government down. The other part is concerned, and i think they are mistaken because they want to. The real issue right now before us is how do we select Supreme Court judges, okay . In israel, in america, and in most democracies, the elected officials, the politicians choose the judges in one system or another, okay . In israel the protesters think that that would be the end of democracy, what is common in all democracies that you balance the power of the Municipal Court by choosing the judges, they say in israel the politicians should not be doing this and this is the thing we are focused on if you want to know and stop the end of democracy. If it is, then we dont have any democracies anywhere on earth. There is a lot of distorted discussion. Im looking now and i have been looking now for nine months to find a consensus if i could with some of the opposition or all of it, the political opposition, knesset. If not, define something that appeals to the broadest possible segment of the public and i think we will get there when the dust settles, i guarantee you and it will settle. You will see that israel was a democracy, is a democracy and will actually be even a stronger democracy. Your Outside Counsel was asked by the Supreme Court what happens in israel, the government passes a law saying that there wont be an election for 10 years. And, i know, he answered well, it would be solved by another election. In other words, there are real questions about that checks and balances from the outside looking at it. And im sure President Biden expressed that in your meeting as well. We discussed he asked me to describe what we are doing. But we didnt get well beyond that because we have had other opportunities to discuss it over the phone. I can tell you this. What if the Supreme Court decides there are no elections for 10 years . It doesnt work that way. Can you take it to absurdum. The knesset never decided that in our 57 years. I guarantee you it will never decide that in the future there are checks and balances. Right now in israel the Supreme Court has no checks and no balances. We have to restore some of it, but we have to do it carefully and responsibly and thats what im doing. You think you can come to some concession. Consensus . Im seeking it certainly. I hope to achieve it, i wont tell you its easy. Being Prime Minister of israel easiest job in the world. Bret i dont think so. Do you think saudi arabia normalized relations with iran before they normalized relations with you. First of all, you have to understand that there has been normalization before the Abraham Accords. For example in 2018, two years before we signed the Abraham Accords, saudi arabia opened its airspace to israelis who could now fly over the Arabian Peninsula to destinations in the gulf and asia, india, australia, and so on. That was that didnt happen accidentally. And i dont think the Abraham Accords would have happened without Tacit Saudi Support and approval. So we have had preliminary indications how do i say that that we are moving to normalization as far as the saudi approach to iran, im sure if you spend some more time saudi relationship, they will tell you that they welcome peaceful relations with everyone. But im not sure that they have changed their view about irans intentions or its innate aggression. Bret do you think solving the Yemen Problem is a big part of all of this as well . It helps. It helps. But i think the larger question is irans ideological impetus to conquer the middle east, destroy israel. They chant death to israel and they chant death to america. They want to build icbms that can carry Nuclear Weapons not against us, because they can reach us without it, but against you and to hold america hostage to their crazy demands. Thats something we all have to work on to stop for the sake of israel, our arab neighbors, america, the world. Bret you met with elon musk. Interesting danger . I think is he a tremendous visionary. I was enormously impressed. I must say i just mentioned in the speech i gave at the u. N. Something that i heard from him. He said imagine a world where you have the end of scarcity. Something that eluded mankind up to now. And i think he sees both the great blessings of a. I. , as i do. But he also sees the great perils of a. I. , as we all should. I think he is one of the most inspiring and stimulating people that i have met in my lifetime. I have met quite a few. I met some of his colleagues, including here in new york and also there in california. So i think that israel is an important a. I. Player. And i think we have to fashion an international approach that will enable us to maximize the blessings of a. I. , while containing the curses of a. I. They are a legion on both sides of the equation. Bret as we wrap up here, is it fair to say that i lead you hearing that you are optimistic . Yes. Categorically, yes. Bret mr. Prime minister, we appreciate your time. Thank you. Bret when we come back, well get some perspective on this weeks developments in the middle east from fox news senior Strategic Annual List general jack keane and, later, we go live to Southern Texas and the white house and get the latest on the border crisis. If we have a breakthrough of reaching a deal that give the palestinians their needs and make the region calm, we have to work with whoever is there. When you have three leaders in three countries that avidly want a result, that really raises the possibility that we will succeed Saudi Crown Prince the israeli crrm. Lets get reaction to this weekends developments. Fox news strategic analyst retired general jack keane. General, great to see. Your thoughts broadly on these two interviews in three days . Well, certainly were on the cusp of a major Paradigm Shift that they are able to pull this off. And credit to all three leaders helping to work. This who would have imagined just from the United States perspective i think the Biden Administration initially stumbled in reaching out to iran to restart the nuclear deal, stiffen the arrows, particularly saudi arabia. And then when netanyahu came back to power, pushing back on him as well. Here we are, right here, with saudi arabia and israel trying to resume, trying to initiate normal relations with each other. You know, we know full well that moment bin sal syed is mbs mentor to speak. He was likely very much behind what the other four countries did, particularly the uae and braun in normalizing relations. But the king is fundamentally concerned about palestinians and what happens to them going forward. Thats the let isnt a saudi arabia had a couple years ago. We are very close to this now. Both of these leaders seem to be optimistic about it. I think we should be encouraged by it. Certainly there are going to be obstacles here to overcome. You know what happens when the opportunity to have stakes are so high, initial positions going in have a tendency to change because hopefully thats what takes place here. You mentioned the hurdles, specifically the palestinians and each leader i tried to get specifics and they kind of said its in the vale of negotiations. As you look at the map, and you see the west bank there, with israel. You know, it is all about how those specifics come out and how that is dealt with it seems to get this over the finish line. E, yeah, land is the issue, largely. Not completely. Its the most predominant annexation by israel, return of land what the palestinians want very much. So that is going to be centerpiece from the palestinians perspective. We do have to recognize that those four other deals took place not that those countries didnt have sympathy and empathy for the palestinians but they recognized it was not in the top three or four issues in the region any longer. What was driving to make the deal was irans aggression and malice in the region and destabilizing the region so peace and stability was an issue, Economic Prosperity was the second issue in the relationship with israel. Many of those countries and likely Mohammed Bin Salman not going to say it publicly and frustrated by the palestinians because of rejectionist attitude. There has been pretty good deals put on the table and they walked away from all of them they seemed to offer the status quo while they received hundreds of millions of dollars in donor gifts. That frustration is with the leaders of the Palestinian Organization right now. So that is going to be an elephant in the room as they are working towards this as well. Bret fascinating. There are a lot of moving pieces. Its complex, but it is good to hear from both of those leaders. General, as always, thank you. Great talking to you, bret. President biden and his team are blaming republicans for this weeks massive influx of Illegal Immigrants into south texas. White house correspondent peter doocy has that part of the story tonight. We put in place policies that process people in a fair and fast way. Thats a problem for some border state lawmakers. He would like more money to process migrants. He does not want money to solve the problem. White house Officials Say they are consistent. Our message remains very clear. If you dont enter the country lawfully, we will take an action. White house officials also on defense about a curious story from an off camera fundraiser this week where President Biden detailed how race riots in charlottesville inspired his 2020 campaign and told the same exact story nearly word for word a few minutes later. We hope that we will reach a place that it will ease the live of the palestinians and get israel as a player middle east. Everyday we get closer. Bret i know you heard those words from the Saudi Crown Prince. What was your response. I was delighted to hear what he had to say. I think when you have three leaders and three countries that avidly want a result, i think that really raises the possibility that well succeed. Bret with that, lets bring in our panel, fox news chief political analyst brit hume. Morgan Ortagus Former State Department spokesperson and harold ford jr. Former tennessee congressman and cohost of the five. All right, brit, your thoughts, two leaders, three days. What do you make of it. Well as much as what they said, both of them. And they said a lot, bret, thanks to your questioning, i think their moods, their attitudes were equally telling. I mean, i dont think i have ever seen Benjamin Netanyahu in better spirits than he was in that interview just now with you dont, bret. He couldnt stop smiling. So, it gives you a sense of beyond their words of just exactly how optimistic they are and they seem very optimistic indeed that this can happen and this would be quite a big deal as you suggested. Bret morgan, you have seen this space before, the Abraham Accords during the Trump Administration. They have a lot of hurdles. Its not to minimize that because it is very complex when you are dealing with the palestinian issues. But your thoughts . Well, first of all, bret. We wouldnt be here today if wasnt for the Abraham Accords in the Trump Administration under president trump. Mike pompeo, jared kushner. And what they did was very crucial. Its what netanyahu, the Prime Minister talked about in your interview with you. I think i counted four times that the Prime Minister said to you that the palestinians will not get a veto on these peace deals. And thats what alluded peace for 26 years there was 26 years between deals between israel and arab states before we got the Abraham Accords. I think its incredibly important. Clearly the palestinians and Senate Democrats are going to care about what happens to the palestinians in this deal. But the fact that all sides realize that they dont get a veto is huge. Whats also really important in your interview with m rgs with the crown prince he talked about iran getting the bomb and saudi would need. To say i have been hearing that since 2010 when i was in the region. The Biden Administration has something in front of him right now. They can choose the failed path. Trying to go back to the jjcpao and following iran and policies in the middle east and put israel and saudi together and pushing iran to the side and stop trying to make that the focal point of their middle east policy. Bret harold, i was struck talking to the israeli Prime Minister about this sense that he sees time. Like now is the time over the next couple of months and despite his Co Coalition Made Ua Wing right parts that he may go for this big legacy move that changes the dynamic. Your sense . Exactly. Thanks for having me on. I give you credit again on this interview. I say a couple things. I thought general keane reminded us of what these dispiewtsd are about and brit and morgan were doing the same laying Economic Growth and security had been at the heart. Seems like security and being secure from iran is guiding all in the region. Two, i think he not only senses the moment, bret, the Prime Minister, i have never seen him as happy as joyful, brit nailed it. He seemed not only happy, you asked him in the interview are you optimistic. And he said unequivocally yes. He views this opportunity as a moment to forge ahead with this young leader who has his own set of questions around him. I thought your interview two days the fact he spoke english and smoke it so well humanized him and made him relatable to so Many Americans and those around the globe. Remind me of meachams great word hours manifest willingness of someone or a group being able to open their arms and not clinch their fist. I didnt see either of these two leader clinching their fist. The leaders of israel and america who are from a different position than a leader in saudi arabia want to do something big, and they may have a moment to do it. It might be a small moment but i hope they seize it. Bret all right. We only have small moments left in this panel. I have got winners and losers. Its a friday. Brit first to you winner and then loser. Brit i think these two leaders you interviewed this week are the winners for bringing themselves so close, closer than they have ever been before. That would really be a major middle east breakthrough. And losers, too . Bret yeah. Brit obviously i think senator menendez, based on this indictment, which appears to be heavy with facts is a big loser tonight. Bret all right, morgan . Winner, then loser . Well, winner is Dave Mccormick who announced his candidacy for one of the most Competitive Senate races in the country in pennsylvania. He is a combat veteran. And really whats interesting to me is that he united the Republican Party in pennsylvania around his candidacy very quickly. So that is certainly a race to watch. Loser of the week is unfortunately the people of eagle pass, texas who have seen thousands of people come over the border yesterday and today, record numbers. I dont know how those people are going to be able to with this influx. Bret aall right, harold winners and losers. Coach prime in colorado is doing something a coach hasnt done in a long time in college football. I wish him the best. Is he talking to Kids Forthrightly and even urging fans to treat kids with respect. Another winner is bret baier.
