They know where all of the kids are, still having a difficult time getting the families back together. What do you make of 20,000 beds for immigrant children . The pentagon steps forward again. Probably the best logistics people coming forward. This is chaotic. Suddenly military bases have to be homes for families with kids because the administrations policy created this. They can only house them for up to 20 days. The court case that limits that. You cut put in jail parents with kids for longer than 20 days. What happens after that . A. B. Is right. From a political standpoint, the story is the 2,300 kids. Whether or not the u. S. Is prepared for these kids not getting reunited with their parents and parents complaining to u. S. Embassies for months, perhaps years, where are my children. Heres how bad the optics are getting. Even though the zero tolerance policy is in effect and we have reporters saying the immigration hearings are going fast and the judges are saying youre dismissed, so theyre dismissing cases as much as we think zero tolerance policy is still in effect largely theres somebody telling people get these kisses in and get them out. I think its important to distinguish between this firestorm over the separation of families and the fact that most Americans Still actually do not support sanctioning illegal entry into this country what theyre saying in this backlash is keep them together. Deport them together or detain them together. Keep them together and dont separate them. That doesnt mean catch and release is fine with most americans, everybody gets to come over the border. Thats not what this is about. It will quash any opportunity for mom and dad to bring in extended family members, citizen mom and dad to bring in their family members. It ends legal immigration, what we have called family reunification. Thats just in all the pressure to the House Republican leadership bill that would provide a path to citizenship for dreamers and is based on President Trumps four pillars. Many republicans are pessimistic. They have an uphill baitle because you are dealing with this issue of trying to be conservative enough to keep conservatives on and keep moderates on. When you play that game, you wont get there because youre getting no democrat votes here. Defense officials says the pentagon has received notice from health and Human Services and requested to house up to 20,000 migrant children. Its not clear if that includes the parents. The three bases in texas theyre looking at fort bliss, dias air fort base andoodfellow air force base. Also a base in arkansas under consideration, this is not without precedence, trace. The Obama Administration housed up to 7,000 migrants on three bases in 2014 as well. This comes today as we learned the pentagon has dispatched up to 21 lawyers to the southern border to help with this large case load of migrant children. In just a couple minutes here, House Republicans will meet and discuss the bill that they pulled off the floor. This is the socalled compromise bill which provides direct funding for the wall. Keep in mind, they were trying to get votes on two bills. The conservative bill that went down earlier today and a voted on the compromise bell. President trump came to capitol hill earlier in the week as did Kirstjen Nielsen and Jeff Sessions and they couldnt close the deal. If you had the votes, trace, they would vote. The fact that theyre not voting today and possibly delaying the vote till tomorrow tells you a lot. Heres another interesting tidbit. That will got 193 yays. They thought it would get 170. Did provide real money for the wall. The bill they have tomorrow does. What the bill did do is not provide a pathway to citizenship for those in the daca population. The bill tomorrow does. In other words, theres a lot of republicans in the house of representatives, in you interpret the outcome of that vote and where they are that think that maybe voting against the pathway to citizenship, no amnesty is more important than voting for border wall, trace. Trace yeah, its important to note, chad, during his cabinet meeting, the president said the worse this looks, the more democrats think it will benefit them. There has to be reaction from democrats about the president saying, you know, near thriving by these pictures and these optics that are coming out of these various shelters around the country. Nancy pelosi was asked about that, about the compromise bill. She said its a compromise with the devil. At in point have republicans tried to court the vote for democrats. Chuck schumer said they have to deal with this Via Executive order. Its not an issue that has been created by democrats. Heres the other thing. Think about how long its been since theres been a bill that passed through the house of representatives. There was an immigration bill in 2005 a big immigration bill in 1986. A Border Security bill in 2006. Nothing through the house of representatives. You have to do in a bipartisan fashion. When the senate moved the bill a couple years ago, it was done in bipartisan fashion that bill got nearly 70 votes and a wide array of democrats and republicans. Nothing has been done on this issue so far has been done in a bipartisan way. Yeah, Newt Gingrich said earlier today, the house should pass something, anything that would be attractive and dared the senate to kill it. Yeah. We might not even have a vote on that bill tomorrow because maybe the recalibration is, all right, we cant pass something here. Maybe we should pass a more narrow bill that deals with child separation or scrap this bill. The reason they had to call off the vote today is because the members dont know what is in the bill. Thats why paul ryan and mark meadows got into it. There might be that daring. They might have this Conference Meeting here in a few minutes and say why dont we just scrap this, put another bill on the floor and dare the democrats to vote against it . That is an issue that would play probably more prominently in the United States senate especially where you have a lot of red state democrats that would have trouble with immigration issues on the ballot this fall. Think about joe manchin, border state senators like john tester in montana. Trace yeah. You look at thcope here, the legalities of the president s executive order. Maybe 20 days to hold these people. They have to move them in, move them out. How long are we looking at for some type of legitimate legislation off of the hill . John cornyn indicated he thought they would do something this week. He said that tuesday. Heres is late in the afternoon thursday. The senate is just about done for the week. The senate is not in session tomorrow. Theres other members that have introduced various approaches. Ted cruz of texas and mark meadows. But those bills are not in the cue. Maybe what the republicans decide to do if the bill they have been pushing to course the moderates, the one that the president advocated for, the one that Kirstjen Nielsen wanted, maybe they have to put the genie back in the bottle and go back to square one and do somethg else. Theres next week. They probably dont want to go home before the fourth of july recess, theyre in session one more week without addressing this in some fashion, trace.
