Accused of breaking one of the officers orbital bone. Now monahans Warning Police morale is the lowest he has seen in a long time. There is a lot of animosity toward the police, and we are feeling it not just in the protests where these anarchists take over it, but on the streets. On the street corners there is a feeling that they dont have to listen to the police, and that they are willing to fight the Police Officers. Harris also, mayor bill de blasio is being asked about the surge in Violent Crime which is plaguing the city and has been for weeks. We do not accept an increase in gun violence in new york city. We may be going through one of the most painful and exceptional moments in history with this pandemic. We may be going through profound social dislocation and a breakdown of the basic functioning of our criminal justice system, in terms of our courts. That is never going to stop us from fighting back. Harris early today, new York City Police commissioner, dermot shea, laid out a violence prevention plan and said the nypd will not give up the streets. Lets take a look at whats happening out there right now. Laura ingle is in new york city. Laura . Hi, harris. Well, the continuation of an uptick in violence goes on. This, as the nypd continues to try and run down Violent Attacks both on police and on civilians. We do now have our first look at the woman who was arrested yesterday. We talked about this when we were on the air with you yesterday afternoon. The woman believed to be responsible for that cane attack on highranking officers on wednesday, on the brooklyn bridge, during a protest, has been arrested and charged with four counts of assault on an officer. Meanwhile, two 25yearold men have both been charged with assaulting Police Officers on the bridge. One of those men, quran campbell, was charged with three counts of assault after breaking a bone in one officers in entering the nypds highest ranking officer, chief of Department Terence monahan. Campbell has been released without bail, something mayor de blasio says makes him unhappy. It does not make sense to me. It really doesnt. First of all, Terry Monahan is a friend of mine. I have Great Respect for him. Hes out there every day trying to protect everyone in the city. To see someone assault him, the chief of the department, absolutely unacceptable. Meanwhile, the surge in violence doesnt seem to be letting up. So far this week the city has seen 51 shootings with 70 people shot in three left ad, including that one year old boy who was shot in his stroller in brooklanbrooklyn. While that suspect has been arrested, dermot shea helped unveil an end the gun violence plan today which includes enhancing shooting investigations and organizing gun buyback events. He says the city needs a fully functioning court system with currently 2,000 open gun cases. We need the price of carrying an illegal firearm in new york city to be felt. We dont necessarily need more gun arrests, we need the people who are caught to be prosecuted fully, and we need the Court Systems open to get them off the street as quickly as possible. Commissioner shea emphasizing people need to be held responsible, these people who have absolutely no regard for the law. Harris . Harris laura ingle, thank you very much. I want to bring and now my first guest, eric adams, brooklyns borough president , who is calling for the nypd anticrime unit to be reinstated. Remember, it was wiped away or was on the chopping block during the defunding of nypd by a billion dollars. Also joining me, pat brosnan, former nypd detective. Great to see you both, thank you for joining me. I want to start with you, eric. I was reading about you. The daily mail calls you the most influential black politician right now in new york city. What you say can make big change. So, why do you want the reinstatement of something that so many have called for in the streets, Defunding Police . First of all, thank you. Pat, good seeing you. Its been a long time. I think it offers two mechanisms. One is the only presence of blueandwhite vehicles, and the other is the element of uncertainty, that bad guys cant believe that the policing is a predictable model. Not having plainclothes, and my belief, on the precinct level, which could have good supervision, and a redefinition of the officers assigned, you are taking away the element of surprise. Policing cannot be predictable, and right now its too predictable for those bad guys that carry guns. Harris just to double down with you a little bit, because this is the first time you and i have spoken, you were also in nypd former police officer, which is how i imagine you and pat have that report. Everyone can seat on the screen, you know each other. What to make of this call for taking a billion dollars away from a force that is so huge . As you said, you need the omnipresence of blueandwhite vehicles. Thats cops. So true. And one thing, pat and i may disagree on how you carryout principles, but we both agree Public Safety is a prerequisite to prosperity. In the 80s and 90s, we are in Different Police agencies. What i would like to see and call for is the civilian ionizatiocivilianizationof thos. You can do it without dropping the patrol strength. If you take those officers out of barrier details, if you take them out of being telephone switchboard operators, if all of those clerical assignments, youn maintain your patrol strength. We can really introduce technology into policing. I have pushed to get telemedicine into our health and hospitals. Have officers not sitting in court all day but using technology and really turning the corner of policing in the city. Harris pat, what your topline thoughts. I just heard what the Brooklyn Borough president was talking about in terms of, you may not see things the same way. Tell me about what that means. How do you see it . So, myself and eric adams have agreed to disagree over the years, and we had Mutual Respect for decades coming out of the 80s in 90s. We part company on some operational strategy, so to speak. In general, and overall, his heart is in the right place and he is spot on. He is spot on. The calls for the return of the 600 city wide anticrime officers cannot happen soon enough, and he is correct on that. Unfortunately, mayor de blasio, who is frequently wrong and never in doubt, refuses to acknowledge that the seven deadly sins that he has his hands in, almost all of them that have been unleashed on the city in the last six months since january 1st, bail reform, empty jails, prosecutorial indifference, the defunding of the police, the desecration of the police, and the horrifying birth of the empowered criminal. The empowered criminal is a criminal. There are no laws, no rules, no respect, and there is no concern over sanction. There is no concern. 2,000 cases. 2,000 this is madness, harris. This is lawless new york city in july 2020. Harris i want to get to this, though. It seems like you were kind of getting into politics, too. Its not lost on anybody god forbid. [laughs] harris bill de blasio is getting a lot of bipartisan push back now. The democratic governor, andrew cuomo, has called for displacing de blasio. You have heard the leadership in new york, the Police Department, saying illegal firearms are the problem. That seems like there is some bipartisan possibilities there. Or am i wrong about that . Well, hope springs eternal. I think what you have here is the glimmering of an understanding from the fawning sycophants, largely delusional, that encircle de blasio. The fact is, harris and they can tout new york is the safest city in america, but the reality is all the guns that were there any 80s are still here. In an article i wrote the other day, guns from 1920 will fire with similar accuracy from the guns at 2020. They dont disappear. They didnt move, they didnt colonize the moon. They were waiting for this opportunity where there would be this suspension of the rules, the suspension of the laws, by a desecration of the Police Department and the empowerment of the criminal element. The fact is its here, it is today, and the numbers support its 1000 . Harris eric adams, pat brosnan, thank you very much. A very sobering talk today about what we need to do next. Thank you for joining me. Senate republicans have ramped up their investigation into joe bidens son, hunter, and his business dealings with ukraine. At the g. O. P. Can turn up the heat on biden as soon as next week. Plus, federal officers are responding to protests in portland, oregon. How the Trump Administration is managing the unrest and backlash from the citys democratic leadership. Lets not kid ourselves. These arent protesters. These are criminals. They are looters, they are seeking opportunities to destroy. Frankly, to hurt Law Enforcement officials. Ok everyone, our mission is to provide complete, balanced nutrition for strength and energy. Whoohoo great tasting ensure with 9 grams of protein, 27 vitamins and minerals, and nutrients to support immune health. We continue to see violent activity, violent anarchists, night after night, targeting those facilities. I want to be very clear, we see peaceful protests there in portland. Dhs, department of Homeland Security, has no problem. We are talking about a Different Group of individuals that have become violent, local and state leadership, they are fostering an environment where it is very difficult for Law Enforcement to do their job. Harris that is acting Homeland Security secretary chad wolf on the scene in portland, oregon, yesterday, which marks 50 nights of protests. 50. 50. Federal officers used gas and smoke to keep protesters away from two federal buildings, and as we await word from the Trump Administration on a possible National Response to unrest, he announced that News Conference next week. White house chief of staff mark meadows says the Trump Administration will always respond to violence. This is all about safe cities in the about this president. Not only looking across washington, d. C. , but looking across the country. Look at whats happening in our cities, and our towns, our communities, saying that we cannot tolerate a Lawless Society where anarchy reigns and where writers have more rights than perhaps the Police Department. Harris meanwhile, oregons governor has criticized the president in a tweet. This political theater for President Trump has nothing to do with Public Safety. The president is failing to lead this nation. Now he is deploying federal officers to patrol the streets of portland and the blatant abuse of power by the federal government. The power panel comes in now. Charlie hurt, scott bolden. Great to see you gentlemen. Charlie, it will come to you for reaction. Charlie its kind of amazing to listen to anybody accuse President Trump of the failure of leadership at a time like right now when what we are actually seeing on the streets here is a failure of leadership by local officials and state officials. This is not just a safety issue. It is a safety issue, but its far more than that. Its about protecting peoples constitutional right to peacefully gather. Peoples constitutional right to free speech. When law order breaks down like this, all of those things are absolutely denied. Those are constitutional rights. I agree, the federal officers shouldnt be in places like this, taking action like this. I dont want to see that. When local officials, out of political cowardice, failed to protect peoples constitutional rights, you dont have a choice but to see federal agents protecting federal property and protecting peoples constitutional rights. Of Peaceful Assembly and free speech. Harris scott, i dont know if you guys were able to see it, but eric adams of the Brooklyn Borough president , former cop, talking about what you need to go forward. He said Public Safety is a prerequisite for prosperity. He just said that like 5 minutes ago. Talk to me about your reactions to whats going on, and maybe put it in the context that eric adams did for us. Public safety is always super important. Public peace and Public Partnership is even better, between the police and the community. These are tough, complicated issues. Im a former prosecutor from new york. I listened the interview, i didnt see it. These are really tough issues. I dont think you can take one side or the other and say the police are being abused and that the criminals have been in power, and that the protesters are violent anarchists. The difficulty in that is that you have the anarchists and those who want to do harm with the peaceful protesters, because there is social injustice. Black lives do matter. We do have two americas, one black, one white. When we need is an understanding and appreciation and a deescalation of these issues, onsite, on the ground, as well as from a Public Policy standpoint. I think what the dems are saying to republicans is we dont have enough of that, we have this law order political piece that is driven by that its the only answer, and that is one part of the answer. It is far more complex than that. If we can sit at the table and discuss it, we can probably come up with some better alternatives than what we saw the other night in portland. Harris it is not my job to grade your answers, but i have to tell you, when you split america in half and one is whi white, one is black, america, it is jarring to hear you say that, scott. Sooner or later we are going to have to come together. Scott what i always say with that, though, is we need to have one america going forward. It needs to be addressed. I begrudgingly say it like that, only because its what i see. Harris charlie . Charlie ironically or, i would say predictably if you focus on the issues that have arisen about Police Interactions such as in the george floyd case, you would have 90 agreement among americans, or 99 of agreement among americans, that there are issues that need to be address addressed. People willing to address those issues. But when it leaks over into this violence, and i would argue these anarchists we see, they are not fighting for black lives matter. They are just trying to sow discord and discontent and do whatever they can to create this atmosphere where there is no free speech. And the goodhearted people that are out there protesting understandable things are being silenced by the violence. Scott or overshadowed, if you will. I have no problem with that. Harris i will move on to this. A Testy Exchange between White House Press secretary Kayleigh Mcenany and chicagos mayor. While that city is seeing a big spike in crime. Here is the press secretary at yesterdays briefing. Secretary mcenany this pree action and the derelict mayor of chicago should step up and ask for federal help. Shes doing a poor job securing your streets. Harris mayor lightfoot of chicago hit back with a tweet. Hey, karen, watch your mouth. Karen, as you may know, is often used as a pejorative label for a demanding white woman who has a sense of overbearing entitlement and various societal confrontations. Its being used more and more on twitter and other places. Scott . Scott is also used for when white men and women weaponize the police, calling the police on black folks doing everyday things. I understand the banter back and forth. These are complex issues. When katie uses the language to attack the mayor because of the democratic harris kayleigh. Scott kayleigh, forgive me. Thats not helpful. Youll get a return shot. The complexity of violence in chicago i grew up in joliet, illinois, as you know is far more. Its on all of us. Republicans, democrats. We got to do better. I, for one, have said maybe the feds do need to come in. Harris we can get to that. Scott maybe they have to come in if nothing else is working. Harris will bring you back later this hour, but i want to ask, when Kayleigh Mcenany refers to derelict and the mayor of a major American City comes back with a racially pejorative term against her as a karen, how is that i hear the issues are tough but i want you to speak to that. Does that help . Scott its not helpful, but its not harris i i know its in the vernacular, but is it helpful . Scott its not helpful, these issues are complex. Id like to see both sides talk instead of beating each other back and forth. Both sides go back and forth like that. Harris all right. Im going to scoot to this, and when we come back we will hear more from you. Scott okay. Harris all right. Thank you. The soon to be renamed Washington Redskins are facing more than a dozen women claiming they were sexually harassed while working for the redskins organization, the washington nfl team. What else is in that bombshell new report . This year, the Alzheimers Association walk to end alzheimers is everywhere. All of us are raising funds for one goal a World Without alzheimers and all other dementia. Because this disease isnt waiting, neither are you. Go to alz dot org slash walk. Harris the soon to be renamed Washington Redskins are facing a new controversy. 15 women who used to work for the team claiming Sexual Harassment and verbal abuse by employees there. Revealing details of a toxic culture within the organization by the Washington Post says one employee said, it was the most miserable experience of my life, but we all knew that we complained, and they reminded us of this, there were 1,000 people out there who would take our jobs in a heartbeat. Mike emanuel live outside fedex field where the redskins play in landover, maryland. Mike . The owner of the franchise, dan snyder, is now responding to this explosive report saying, this story has strengthened my commitment to. It began with the hiring of closure very early this year People Institute new policies and procedures strengthened our infrastructure to not only avoid this in the future but most important to create a team culture that is respectful and inclusive of all. The nfl saying today, these matters as reported are serious, disturbing, and contrary to the nfls values. Everyone in the nfl has the right to work in an environment free from any and all forms of harassment. 15 women, former employees, alleged Sexual Harassment and verbal abuse. In the past week us three senior officials were either fired or retired. Former employee Emily Applegate said it was the most miserable expanse of her life, telling the Washington Post, i needed to keep my job. When it comes down to it, 98 of people make decisions on stuff like this based on needing to keep their jobs, which is why this goes on for so long. Applegate spoke about the toxic culture at the team earlier today. Nobody deserves to be degraded and treated like that. Nobody deserves to be disrespected. For any of us women that want to get into a career that is a maledominated force, we shouldnt be afraid that these are all things that are going to happen. The team has hired attorney Beth Wilkinson who says her firm was retained to do an independent review of the teams culture, policies, and allegations of workplace misconduct. The nfl leadership is expected to meet with wilkinson and her colleagues once she is done and is pledging to take any action. Harris . Harris mike emanuel, thank you very much. I am joined by sam fortier, Sports Reporter for the Washington Post. Sam, this is your work. He looked into this. What does it mean for the Washington Redskins organizati organization . I think, in addition to those complaints, they need a systemic review of their policies regarding these matters. There was the cultural of Sexual Harassment, the culture of verbal abuse. If you look at the hr reporting process to kind of deal with those issues, that was clearly lacking. The Organization Still today has 220 employees across football and business, and there is one hr person. They also have to do administrative responsibilities. Clearly this is something they need to look at holistically. Harris you know, whenever these things break out, whatever the lane or industry, its not typically just one organization. You know the nfl well. You know its history. Youve seen former players drag their girlfriends by their hair across elevator thresholds, and we were told by the commissioner then, roger goodell, that they would be a womens council. Five women on the council were going to look at these issues. Do you think this sort of thing is potentially more widespread in the nfl . That we will see more of it pop now that 15 women have come forward . I dont want to speculate about the internal on goings of other organizations, but i think Emily Applegate, as you heard earlier, made a good point when she talks about entering a maledominated field. I think that is something the industry as a whole asked to reckon with, especially with the cultural moment we are in at this time. Harris what i was speaking about is specifically in the lien of domestic violence. And what i couple all that is with just experiences by women in the nfl. So, my question for you now is specific to the redskins. They are getting ready to change their name. Is anybody talking about that being like a reinvention point, if you will . Yeah, i think this sort of rebrand, they hope to cleanse the organization. Obviously we saw in the last week or so three employees left the team in regards to this report, and i think you have a head coach at the top and ron rivera who, while hes being asked to do a lot, he has been seen around the league is a good and earnest person is going to do the right thing. He said in a Statement Last night that his daughter works for the team. Shes a coordinator and he will not stand, obviously, for a culture like this for his own family to her again. They hope, certainly, that this marks a new chapter. Ron rivera is saying, please dont judge us on what we wear, judge us on what we will be. Harris those women coming forward to help them get to that place of where they will be. Sam fortier, thank you. Thanks for your reporting. Thank you. Harris Senate Republicans have ramped up their investigation into mr. Bidens ukraine dealings, while his father was Vice President. What fox news has learned about reports of potential subpoenas. Harris politico is reporting Senate Republicans are eyeing subpoenas for current and former advisors to joe biden as part of their investigation into his son, hunter biden, and hunters work for the ukrainian gas company, breeze mom fox news has learned subpoenas could be issued as soon as next wednesday. You may recall in december of the present of democratic president ial nominee, joe biden, denied knowledge of hunters wo work. What is your understanding of what your son was doing for them . I dont know what he was doing. I know he was on the board. I found out he was on the board after he was on the board, and that was it. L, you have a lot of time. Isnt this something you want to get on the bottom of . No, because i trust my son. Harris in march, senate Homeland Security cherry ron johnson said americans need answers. Its not our fault that joe biden and hunter biden got wrapped up in the whole ukrainian story. We are not closing our eyes to this. Joe biden has never adequately answer these questions. I said repeatedly, if there is wrongdoing the American People need to understand that. I want to bring in former prosecutor jim trusty. Good to see you. First of all, if you during this investigation, how do you peel away the layers to get with the truth is . You got these subpoenas coming. What you are expecting to see . I hav think they are doing wt is typical in that context, which is a start on the periphery. Start on the outside and work your way in. They go to advisors and try to question them and find out, you know if those people unwittingly helped the investigation move forward, given information they dont know is hurtful to joe biden or hunter biden, they dig through that before actually moving closer to the actual targets like hunter biden. Thats a pretty typical starting point and it looks like thats where they are going right now. Harris what are they looking for, exactly . It would help to have a road map. Or do not need that . You look for anything thats questionable . Ultimately its a political question, or whether they are just fishing. There are some pretty core facts that are public and pretty damning. Hunter biden, while he mightve had some skills when it comes to impregnating arkansas strippers and seducing his brothers wife, the only thing he did was the last name of biden. That he got paid hundreds of thousands of dollars or more for what hes clearly unqualified, that is basically nepotism. It might be worse, it might be pay for play practice to the Vice President. I expect with a are looking for is not those core facts which are admitted by joe biden in a bragging fashion. Whether or not theres a quid pro quo. If you can actually show governmental Movement Based on the relationship that then Vice President biden had with the ukraine. Thats probably where they are going. Its a much more difficult thing to uncover and prove than the simple fact of nepotism, which is pretty clear. Harris you know, you started off with something incendiary there with the stripper comments, and im wondering why. I do know that, if your father is Vice President , i have read it could come down to a bribery question. Or were you just making a quip . Mostly just being a smart aleck on a friday and wishing we were talking about the redskin problems. The point is not to go after hunter biden on personal level. The point is that he brings nothing to the table for any Energy Company to want to hire him to pump gas much less be on the board of directors. There is no skill set there that relates to the work he was being hired for. Harris jim, before i let you go, outside of the politics of all of this, what is the legality that the risk hunter biden would face, potential his father, if they should find something . We dont want to speculate on what that would be. Is there legal risk . I think its minimal when you have a congressional oversight committee. Of course, the committee has basically said all we are doing is investigating this until late summer. That by itself kind of truncates it, it makes it sound like the more of a political exercise. It really hurts the credibility of the committee. Presumably they could be looking at things like violations of the foreign corrupt practices act, or corollaries to that, bribery or wire fraud or mail fraud. I think if they announce they will do this and be done in a couple months, thats kind of like declaring the end of the war before you talk about it. Im not particularly incensed dominic convinced they will come up with overwhelming evidence in that short a period of time. Harris think of her journey. I have a great weekend. You, too, harris. Includes a book equating conservatism with racism. This is charlie kirk, the founder of conservative group turning point cusa urging people to think twice before donating to liberal universities. Heres what he said. For decades, the radical left has issued the vestments as a tactic to force marxist ideas. Telling donors what they should no longer be writing the seven figures checks to institutions that are the root cause of aggression we have seen in recent months. Power panel back now, i come to you for why you think this is happening. Because charlie kirk is a young conservative with the following, i have not have a chance to research this book, but i will say this. Is worth reading because im not convinced that conservatism relates to racism, i dont think it drives conservatism or the other one. I do think that the g. O. P. And the conservative movement can often in their policies have a impact on the people of color or poor in this country. That doesnt make them racist but it may make them complicit in the racial impact they have on communities of color. Charlie, what do you say . At times like this, im often reminded of the late great Charles Krauthammer and what he used to often observe which is conservatives began losing the fight when they vacated College Campuses and universities around the country and seated them to this liberal orthodoxy. But this is far beyond liberal orthodoxy. This is akin to racism because its trying to use race as a wedge to divide people. All the progress that we have made in this country has been made because not for laws, but from the social construct where we all agree that we cannot tolerate racism in the Public Square and going back to what we talked about earlier, when the mayor of chicago attacks Kayleigh Mcenany using a racial slur against her. I get that people dont equate that is being as bad as if it were the other way around, but its still a violation of the principle that we are not to use racial differences to attack one another, and when we do, it undermines all of our efforts to get along and to move in the right direction. I think universities are a hotbed of this stuff. May be, but just very quickly. 15 seconds left. We still have the underlying systemic racism and generational racism and so what needs to happen today is that we have to be antiracism because of socioeconomic differences between black folks in this country and white folks in this country. We have to take it to another level. Maybe we dont put labels on each other like what you read makes you one thing or what you wear makes you another. I can agree with that. 10 00 p. M.
