Bernie sanders plan covers more people than a similar proposal from senator Elizabeth Warren. The two are competing, obviously for the same block of liberal leaning voters in 2020. Harris yes, real money, real questions of how to pay for it. You and i often have conversations about who the audience is for certain situations. So is the goal to get the most millennials . Is the goal to get to voters who are or may be moderate who could be swayed in that way . What is the goal . I think for Bernie Sanders it is to jumpstart his support. He has had a little bit of a lull. And Elizabeth Warren has captured some of that talk about policy that young people especially want to hear. So i think that Bernie Sanders probably trying to shore up his millennial base. He had a big chunk of it in 2016. He is trying to do it again. Harris are there enough of the leftleaning people such that the more progressives in the party or some of them are more attracted to what President Trump is doing now with prison reform, the economy, so on and so forth, can democrats say that they have this in the bag . No, definitely not, and it depends on who the candidate is. This is the beginning of a long journey. This debate week. And the two stages of this week in miami will be key if joe biden can hold his own policy wise and probably under attack from a lot of different candidates. If one of these candidates shines with specifics for a viral moment, that is the beginning of what will be a long dance. Well, harris, the problem is that our system was not built at the borders to be housing tens of thousands of unaccompanied kids coming across the border. Or 80,000 family members last year. It was built for single adult coming across back in the 80s, 90s, and 2,000s. So it is overwhelmed, these are not good conditions for kids to be in. And our facilities at the department of health and Human Services where we get to the unaccompanied kids. The kids who come across the border by themselves, we are now functionally full. We are going to run out of money in july. Congress must act to fund us and the department of Homeland Security. It is that simple. Harris what would it take . What is happening down at the texas Border Patrol station and specifically, because this is breaking now, you are moving 300 children, what is going on there . I have to defer to the secretary of Homeland Security, those are his facilities. I get the kids that come across the border by themselves and then they are given to us. We put them in shelters while we work very quickly to try to place them with sponsors here in the United States. Usually family members that they arty have here in the states and get them placed there. Harris i know that we will get some more information, am seeing some of it on the Associated Press wires. I want to go back to the idea of running out of money in july. And what is being done to turn that around. I know that you have gone and written a letter to lawmakers on capitol hill, where are we on that . What is the update . They are moving with a bipartisan package, i think that they may take that up as soon as this week. We have been working very closely with them on that and the house has its own package and i frankly just wish that they would get a unified package and pass it quickly, we cannot afford for this thing to go through july. The Conference Committee trying to recognize between the house in the senate, we have a good bipartisan effort going on. We need to be in this together. This is not about politics, its just getting money so that we can house these kids and get extra capacity. Im going to have to start running this program with people who are not getting paid and grantees who are getting ious. Spin on it looks like a Government Shutdown . We have professional men and women at the department of Homeland Security doing their best to try to deal with a catastrophic border crisis that would be more productive to get them funding so that they can actually and enhance the facility is that we have. The department of health and Human Services, what i actually run, we are providing shelter for these kids. They are in a safe, secure environment. They have three square meals a day. They get two snacks, they are getting education services, they get wreck relation we get funding from congress. We are paying 220 1200 a day per kid. So they are in good state, healthy environment. Harris what happens when the cash runs out for them . We will keep caring for the kids under the life and safety exception from the appropriations law, but it will be based on ious and with Government Employees who are not getting paid, like a Government Shutdown. Like my husband is on my account, any time i do anything, he also gets an email. Out of caution, yes. We are so accustomed to lyft and uber and these thirdparty driver situations. And i think 1 00 in the morning, a young girl by herself, there ought to be some backup system that you employ even if the company does not have that for you. Where you can notify somebody. And i actually, harris, i hate to say this, i will get calls from lyft and uber, but a person writing by themselves at 1 00 or 2 00 in the morning, that is risky. Harris you will probably get some emails and text messages, because a lot of people do this all over the world. Not just universities. This is happening anywhere any hour of the night you should feel like you are safe. In terms of how we investigate things, is this changing the game in how you go after people when they vanish and try to find them . Sure, there is an electronic trail as you mentioned earlier that you can follow. Not just with the app itself with lyft or uber, but also her own texts and emails and information that is stored in the cloud and other apps through third parties. All of that information is available. Video is out there from businesses around the route that they can consult with hampel. Maybe there is video in the neighborhood. Cars have geotracking devices on them themselves. They are so Much Technology out there that needs to be consulted. That is almost why most local agencies will call the fbi in very early.
