The Inspector General, Michael Horowitz, is doing an internal investigation right now. He does not have that authority or power. That is the reason why this federal prosecutor is so critical. Its what the fbi and other groups do. Other agencies, whether its with a warrant or not. What happens . How do you hold people accountable . For us it has to be brought to the public. I think public transparency on this will be accountability in and of itself. Then they have to pursue potential charges. If theres an abuse of power. An Inspector General investigation by its very nature is limited. The only after section of the people currently working at the Justice Department. All of that changes when you vest the power to control an investigation in the United States attorney, as bill barr has now done. Hes given the power to do this investigation to john durham, highly respected u. S. Attorney from the state of connecticut. The u. S. Attorney, like any prosecutor, has robust means of gathering information. Compelling witnesses to testify. Whether or not they still are at the department of justice, to obtain documents and all those sorts of things. I think we are going to see a significant increase in the seriousness with which this investigation is pursued in the months ahead. If someone had their film on the scale, number one, you have to find out whether it amounted to a violation of criminal law or whether it amounted to a violation of Justice Department regulations. If it did, i think you have to look at what the next step would be. Whether thats some sort of referral to prosecutor, what are that some sort of internal disciplinary mechanism for the first thing to do is find out what happened. The latest today, a short while ago, there is a petition for a request for a special prosecutor to be assigned to investigate kim foxx, a ranking judge here in chicago. They did not deny that request. Instead he set a hearing today were he wants to hear arguments for and against a special prosecutor. This latest chapter in the Jussie Smollett case began last month when former illinois appellate Justice Sheila Obrien filed the petition requesting an out of county prosecutor, reassigned to lay fresh eyes on the jesse dont ask beating criminal case and also investigate how kim foxxs office handled the case. Justice obrien says they deserved and of the truth. They were set to make a ruling on the prosecutor last friday. He passed the case to another cut dough might judge because he is a son who works for kim foxx. Today the new judge in charge decides he wants to hear more evidence from Justice Obrien on why a special prosecutor should be assigned, and also wants to hear kim foxs argument against it. In her petition, just as obrien dominant questions or motives, alleging kim foxx meddled in the case even after she recused herself. Fox later admitted she never illegally recused herself. Today an court, Justice Obrien said that kim foxx said one thing and did another, and her veracity in that issue. Obrien pointed out that one of her assistants told fox that illinois law requires a special prosecutor should have been appointed when kim foxx refused herself. Kim foxs argue that a special prosecutor is only required if she became sick or was unable to fulfill her duties. The new software as a second sensor that must agree with the other one before mcas engages, and the system will only turn on once. Boeing says it has tested the fix 360 hours on 207 test flights and is now ready to prove it works to the world. Once regulators get their formal questions answered, the faa will schedule certification test flight. After that, boeing will submit for final certification. Yesterday the congressional hearing, the acting head of the faa, said the agency will be thorough. We will receive applications for eight design modification to the mcas system, we will thoroughly evaluate that and their system safety analysis. We will evaluate the training required to bring that to certify that new software syste. Next week is a very big week for them. Regulators from around the world will meet with the faa in washington, d. A few months ago after several delays in higher than expected costs, California Governor Gavin Newsom proposed scaling back the scope of the project and focused on finishing the line that runs from merced to bakersfield. This area in the central value is considered one of the most economically distressed regions. The project would help create jobs and connect the area to a more prosperous coast of california. Some experts have been following this project viewed purely as a political move that might not hold up in court. I think this will tie up a lot of attorneys and taxpayer dollars time in court to try and fight this.
