The public, along with congress. What you make of it . I think its a good sign that barr is keeping to his word that hes releasing an awful lot of this document. But it will be very intriguing to see just how redacted it is. The format hes talking about seems to be like youd see in a request where there are exceptions taken to the full disclosure that are spelled out in the columns, that basically say we can turn this over because its grand jury material or because it goes into classified information. So we wont see a full report but it sounds like something is coming pretty soon. Harris what facts do we look for in all of this . Again, there will be redactions. But there were some litany of facts that led the attorney general to write the fourpage letter that he did in the beginning. So we know what some of it will say. Do we . I think so. I have kind of a moving goalpost of people suggesting that barr is deceiving or being a little clever in terms of his summary. I think that would be such a fools errand to think he would be that reckless or stupid to have something that is so baldly inconsistent with what is in that report. I think youll see similar headlines within the report an awful lot of underlying data. Some of which is redacted, some of which isnt. Harris in terms of the reaction and i wrote it down, fools errand of the barr if he said anything that would be misleading or untrue. There are politics at play, here. What a shot, right customer [laughs] is a bottom line. The suggesting that they are putting on the full disclosure, saying we cant turn over because of grand jury material, for instance, those are longrecognized exceptions. Theres nothing new. The lawmakers that are out there saying suddenly, i cant believe we are getting a redacted report, they know better. They know there are areas that are absolutely going to be redacted because thats how it always works. So its not a special rule made up for the situation. Again, grand jury materials, for instance a judge isnt going to sign off on releasing them just because we really, really want to read them. Harris why would he question rick or she . Ive always wondered why democrats think they can do exactly what ag barr said. Youre welcome to go to a judge and try to get some of this grand jury testimony. And it always has been like that. Previously when independent counsel where the rules are different, which expired in 1999, ken starr and the person who took over, robert ray who i have on this program a lot have both told me that under the special counsel the rules are different. They say that grand jury i ask you, james, what are the exceptions question rick the grand jury 6e rule could be huge or it may not be prayed for grand jury appearances, a witness testimony is not going to be shown this report. However, if they topped the prosecutors outside of the grand jury, they can essentially duplicate the information and put it in. So we are going to see redactions buried the maddening part there might be that you could have some very interesting witnesses who never met with the prosecutors outside of grand jury. Thats going to be completely off limits in terms of seeing i it. The classified information or means and methods type thing, again, longheld category keeping us from knowing exactly how we gather intelligence. Particularly in a foreign setting. And then there are issues in terms of embarrassing witnesses. Not the highestprofile people, but bit players here that the government has the right attitude with in terms of not submitting people to essentially a public indictment without an indictment. They are trying to be sensitive to the reputations of others. Thats one of the other exceptions that i think will play in from time to time in this report. Harris thats interesting because that is what caused a closer look in the late 1980s after the release of the starr report, all that salacious detail in it along with his 11 findings for possible impeachment. You have the case laid out and then you have all of these tawdry details with former president bill clinton. And there were questions about whether or not you wanted to put stuff like that into the bloodstream of america. Then, boom, you have a special counsel with different rules. I want to ask this is your former family the doj. What has having william barr lead through this process meant to gaining or not regaining the reputation . He has got a fabulous track record. But this is dicey, this road ahead for them. Potentially. Or is it . I dont know if dicey is the word id use, but its a truly politicallycharge. No matter what he does, there are people who will go after him at this point. What im seeing so far from barr and i think a lot of alum are seeing from barr is just a billsin gravitas. The guys that know their way around, not a politician heart, but someone who knows the law. A constitutionalist, someone who wants the institution of the doj to serve what they call lowercase justice, not uppercase justice. To do whats right. I think theres a lot of good signs in terms of how he is conducting himself so far. I think he and mueller and rosenstein, to the extent that they are dragged forward to talk about this publicly, they will acquit themselves pretty well, would be my guest. Harris i wrote that down. Uppercase justice. The real thing and not anybody elses name in front of them. Thats interesting stuff. James chelsea from inside look at the doj, we know from your history. Thank you for handling this breaking news with me. Sure, good to see you. Harris the white house defending a proposal to send detained migrants as angry cities. The president tweeted he has the absolute legal right to bus Illegal Immigrants to cities and states which shield them, including the state of california. But democrats are blessing that proposal saying the president is using immigrants as ponds. He was White House Press secretary sarah sanders. Nobody thinks that this is the ideal solution, but until we can fix the crisis of the border we have to look at all options. This is one of them. Whether or not it moves forward, that is yet to be determined. It was raised at a staff level initially and pushed back on. The president wants us to explore it again. Harris kevin corke live outside the white house with the latest. Kevin . Harris, the president has effectively accused many asylumseekers of simply trying to game the system as far as our immigration is concerned. He is effectively saying they are trying to skip line. He has said that along with an extortion of illegal immigration along the southern border. That they simply have overwhelmed border communities, and that means they should be moved. Thats the thinking here of the white house. Move them to other places around the country. Let me share a part of a tweet the president has been talking about this at nausea him. He is going on twitter saying this. Those Illegal Immigrants who can no longer be legally held Congress Must fix the laws and loopholes will be subject to Homeland Security given sanctuary cities and states. As he pointed out, critics accuse the white house of being, frankly, cynical and using migrants as a political wedge issue. In fact come over on capitol hill, harris, some democrats say the very idea of dumping migrants on sanctuary cities runs counter to the fundamental promise of america. The president has no right to spend money appropriated by congress for the purposes of shipping immigrants all over the country. Everybody talks about democrats, republicans, getting together. The democrats are ready to sit down and talk. But we wont be lectured to by the president. Lets sit down and talk. Bennie thompson there from the great state of mississippi. In fact, he and several other democrats wrote this in a letter to the president. We are deeply troubled by multiple reports recently confirmed by the president of the Trump Administration is considering releasing detained immigrants into congressional districts represented by democrats in a bizarre and unlawful attempt to score political points. So there it is. The white house, for its part, harris, is resolute. They are saying this idea deserves study. After all come democrats claim to want to go up and borders. So the thinking is to let them have the migrants. You have to look at all options across the table so that the towns right there on the border arent taking on the entire burden and we are shifting some of that burden to places who constantly claim to want to have open borders and want to have an open city. Youve also heard democrats including nancy pelosi say, look, if her republicans means halfway we can fix this legally. With this idea of blessing migrants and those who are seeking asylum all over the country is a nonstarter for democrats. Dont forget, we expect to hear from the president sometime here this afternoon over in minnesota. The great state where of course you came from, you northstar [laughter] harris in my career, anyway. I was born a georgia peach. But minnesota open my arms to me as a news anchor and im so grateful. Kevin corke, thank you very much. This is breaking now. Actress Lori Loughlin and her husband have pleaded not guilty in the College Admission scandal. They both rejected a plea deal. Unlike fellow actress felicity huffman, who agreed to a deal earlier this month. Four to six months and a 20,000 fee. Lori loughlin faces up to 40 years in prison on multiple felony charges. Rick leventhal, in our new york city bureau, alongside me this afternoon. Record . Harris, this latest annulment comes through documents filed this morning in Boston Federal Court by Lori Loughlin at her husbands attorneys waiting their right to appear in entering these not guilty pleas. She and her Fashion Designer has been, mossimo giannulli, are among nearly 50 people accused in the bribery scam. They have been hit with extra charges when they turn down a plea offer from the feds. Lori loughlin at her husband are accused of paying half a Million Dollars in bribes to get each of their two daughters into the university of southern california, pretending thven though neither girl was actually a rower. We dont know if those discussions are ongoing but as you said, she and her husband both face up to 40 years behind bars. We will wait and see on that one. Harris reportedly she was outside the courthouse at one point over the last few days signing autographs and what not. If the public sees that, i dont know if anybody else does. President trumps Reelection Campaign is reporting big numbers and fundraising. A huge hall. Far outpacing his democratic opponents. Democrats say they will win with values, not money. Which values, and how much money are they willing to give up . Donald trump said he would be a different kind of politician. We have seen is he is the worst of the most cynical politicians who is looking out for themselves. Alright, i brought in ensure max protein. The legendary golfer pulling it off yesterday at augusta nationals. Even those of us who cant even play putt putt were watching. Shooting a two under par in the fourth wound down my ground to win his fifth green jacket , just one short of all time. The first since 2005. Coming back at the age of 43, hugging his son as he did in 1997 when he first won this tournament when his dad hugged him. It was a moment, it was special. Congratulations, tiger woods. President trump headed to minnesota for a roundtable on the economy and tax reform, as his Reelection Campaign reports raising more than 30 million in the First Quarter of 2019. Rivaling what the two Top Democrats raised combined. Senator Bernie Sanders reportedly picked up 18. 2 million. Senator Kamala Harris raised 12 million. Dnc chairman tom perez says it will be the issues that will keep democrats competitive in this election, not the money. We compete with our values. Americans want to make sure they keep their health care. They want an economy that works for everyone, not just if you have the top. They want a leader who actually makes promises and keeps promises. Harris so lets test out that three live in a town hall. Bret baier, fox news t political anchor, as well as ink or executive editor of special report. Great to see you. You are in the beautiful bethlehem, pennsylvania. I want to know how Bernie Sanders place where you are. What are people saying . I think so does the sanders campaign. Right now there are a lot of people by the way, we are in a wind tunnel, so i apologize if the tornado lifts me up and takes me away. But we have this town hall tonight and they will be democrats, independents, republicans, democratic socialists, conservatives, all in the audience. Asking questions. Martha and i will be following up. This is a key area for the sanders campaign. Obviously, donald trump won pennsylvania. You look at other places like michigan and wisconsin, these are key battlegrounds for democrats this time. Right now the question is whether people feel the economy bouncing back in the shadow of this abandoned steel mill, or whether they think its time for a change from this current administration. Harris we will get into the particulars of one people can tune in at all of that. I want to bring in some democratic fundraising totals, and put those up on the screen as i talk about the 30 million in the First Quarter that the president has raised. Democratic fundraising, Bernie Sanders, 18. 2 million, john delaney, 12. 1 million. Kamala harris, 12. 1 million. Beto orourke, 9 million. Pete buttigieg, mayor from indiana, 7 million. Elizabeth warren rounding out this top of list, if you will. B12 says it will be the values, not the money. But when you bring 30 million men dont like dollars to the table, thats more than the top players in mind. How does that change the race . Its significant to the president has an advantage, being incumbents. However, for all the talk about donald trump and all the focus on his Approval Ratings and whether they are high or low and his disapproval, that number says a lot. That fundraising number is a fundraising number, let alone the 40 million believed to be cash on hand for the trump campaign. So they are starting off this quarter really well, and you are right, in comparison with all the other democrats combined that is a big, big staff that democrats have to look at. Harris you and i covered it last time around, and i remember at dnc the talk of donald trump not raising as much money as democrats have. President trump back then, candidate, didnt make it all about that big money. As you say, as in and incumben, his history shows that is its ability to manage. People want to show that bravado of that presidency now and back it up their dollars. He didnt need it the last time round. How does that bolstering now . It gives them the ability to run ads early on, even before the democrats get to their decision. Of who is going to be their nominee. You are already seeing some ads, harris, around the country that the Term Campaign is running about current things that they tout as big successes for the Trump Administration. That enables them to kind of seed the territory and some of these key states like here in pennsylvania, michigan, wisconsin. Harris as you come in tonight, what are the things you be talking about with regard to democratic socialism . I was in iowa for a town hall last night. It is something that democrats say they are not that many thank you they are not that many people who would buy into that. They are shortsighted on that issue. Americans know was going on and they understand the terminology. What will you want to hear from those democratic socialists who will actually be in the audienc audience . I think they are going to ask a lot of questions. Explaining democratic socialism is a challenge for Bernie Sanders. He has got to explain to people who especially within his own party who have reservations about a democratic socialists being at the head of the ticket. What that effects, the ability to be donald trump. What does that mean for the downballot races that many of them, harris, won with centrist democrats in the Midterm Election . So there are some folks that were scared that the Bernie Sanderstype democratic socialism is going to lead them down a different road. So we are going to get into that. His electability and what it means on specific issues, in substance, in this town hall tonight. Harris bret baier, we look forward to it. Thank you so very much. I will brag about you now. Have a great town hall. Thank you very much, harris. Harris be sure to catch it. Its town hall with Bernie Sanders tonight, 6 30 p. M. Eastern right here on the Fox News Channel from the beautiful city of bethlehem, pennsylvania. It has been burning for at least two hours. We know this from the Fire Department as it is being relayed to the world. Smoke billowing out of the top of that medieval cathedral, as you see, and flames to the right of the screen. Reuters is reporting that witnesses are seeing a major operation is underway. The Fire Department, while a city hall spokesman is saying that the area is being cleared around the cathedral. As quickly as you can do that. You see the man on the lower part of the screen, as reporting is going on locally in paris. France has been seeing a spate of attacks against Catholic Churches since the start of 2019. Vandalism that has included arson and desecration. We do not know if that is what is going on here, but it is worth mentioning that things do not have been in a vacuum. Vandals have smashed statues, knocked down tabernacles, scattered or destroyed the eucharist and torn down crosses, sparking fears of a rise in anticatholic sentiment across france. Today there are reports and i shared them to you right before the commercial break from the twitter account, translated from french. The agency of the french press is saying, of the french press, that notre dame in paris, potentially linked to the renovation of that building, we are learning from firefighters the severity of the fire is still yet to be determined. But you can see for yourself, thick smoke and flames to the right center of your screen. Also, from that agency of the french press, the fire took place in the attic first. Thats what they are thinking. This has not been confirmed, but this is what they reporting across france. It took place in the attic of the cathedral, and indicated so by the firefighters who were fighting this on the ground. The iconic image of that medieval cathedral on fire for at least two hours, the center of your screen. We are working to more details on this. And i was giving you kind of the journalism perspective of what else has gone on, but we do not know if there is any connection between what has gone on with churches, Catholic Church is being there in france, or if it is in fact what is being reported by the agency of the french press and that it could be connected with renovations at the building. Shepard smith and his team are working on this. Shep, are you with me . Lets go to Benjamin Hall, who is in london with the very latest on this first. Benjamin . Hi, harris. As you say, the fire seems to be getting worse and worse. Two hours ago it started, and since then more smoke billowing over paris, and flames now. Which seem to be spreading across Notre Dame Cathedral itself. The year 1160 it was built, it has had fires in the past. We do not know what the state is inside at this point. The cathedral has been evacuated, and we are still trying to learn more ourselves. Weve heard from the interior of ministry, this is not terrier. They are also reporting this is to do with the renovation work above the nave, toward the back of the church. The fire service is trying to get control of it. Such an iconic building, currently in flames and seemingly getting worse at this point. People trying to be child dome i held back and people are trying to urge the Fire Services to to. At this point it doesnt seem its getting any better. It seems, if anything, as if its spreading. The flames werent apparent until i would say about 20 minutes ago. There was just smoke billowing, and the hope was that this was getting under control. But no, far from that, we seem to be getting work done my worst. We are waiting to get more confirmation from the french authorities paired but at this moment they are asking people to stay back and let the authoritir work. Harris benjamin, a couple of things. As you and i have worked and been in paris, france for different occasions, this is one of the most visited cathedrals in the world. You talk about the history and the iconic nature, its also the location being in central paris. Its beautiful, its easily accessible, and we can see from some of the smartphones even in that video that we showed moments ago you can see the tops of peoples heads. There are people that they are trying to get out of the way so firefighters can get in there. They would be already a lot of people gathered around. What are you hearing about what might have been going on inside the cathedral . Those are reports of renovations. He would be able to see scaffolding or something on the outside. What can be seen through your reporting . On a number of social media reports you can see scaffolding where the smoke started coming out. We dont know what the renovation was focusing on. But that was where the fire now seems to be coming from. Again, the police pointed out this is not terrorrelated. Remember, this is the easter holiday. Notre dame wouldve been a hub of activity now, not just for tourists but also locals who are considering to going there to worship. In the past there has been concerns of the building being targeted, which is why there were initial fears this might have been something worse. Terrorrelated. A couple of years ago someone parked her car outside hoping to cause an explosion there. But no, this does seem to be a tragic fire at what is, as you and i have been saying, such an iconic building. The Police Authorities just saying to please let them do their job, let them try and get to the source of this fire to see what they can rescue at this point. Harris over the course of 200 years, to complete this beautiful building. It was completed more than 800 years ago, they started on it. So its not just a part of france, its a part of europe. Its a part of our history around the world. It started under the reign of king louis the seventh, and was completed in 1345. So its been an iconic vision, if you will, along the landscape of france for so very long. He see firefighters trying to get past. The pictures that we just showed you, the video, you can see the large crowd of people and what they are having to kind of get through. Benjamin, im curious as you report over the years how its been a target, recently not this church, but Catholic Churches around france have been the target. We know from our reporting that this is suspected to be part of renovations that might have wow, look at the flames coming out now that we have a different Vantage Point. They are huge. The cameras have kind of spun around. Our Vantage Point to the other time was on the left of the screen, now they are look at that. Benjamin, i just want to ask about peoples reaction to this first. There mightve been trepidation and fear. Is this part of that . We are learning more about the renovations that may have triggered this, that it may have began in the attic. Certainly, if you imagine a building as old as notre dame, and if youve been there, you know that its fields of wood. So many relics that have been untouched for long times, certainly these renovations would have been trying to get down to the core and trying to clean up a lot of the things you find in the attics of the rooftop around here. Below are a lot of that stuff will go up very quickly. Thats why its so important to get to the source so quickly. At this point, everyone outside everyone here in europe, watching on as this iconic symbol of paris, symbol of france, a symbol of romance is going up in flames. No one seems to know what it is. At this point, no one seems to know how to stop it. The authorities and there are doing the best they can. Harris you know, as we are doing some deeper dives on details about the Notre Dame Cathedral, i am reminded that the cathedral was at one time in a state of total disrepair. We talk about 800 years, all of the history across europe of course disrepair would be one of the things that would dot the history of that. It was close to at one point being demolished but was later saved by napoleon during world war ii it was rumored that destroy the newlyinstalled stained glass. It was therefore removed and only reinstalled after the war ended. There is so much history there. In 19 and zero nine, joan of arc was beautified in the Notre Dame Cathedral in paris by pope pius x. There is a lot of history you say, but theres a lot of future in this. If the reports are true and they were doing some sort of renovations, discharge, this cathedral then gets another look look, taking us in to centuries to come, we hope. What are we finding out about firefighters being able to get closer and moving people back . In this live view im seeing quite a few people. We are hearing the same, that at the moment they are just trying to keep people back. They are trying to allow the fire service to get closer. We havent had any direct communication with the fire service themselves, more with the police just urging people to try and help assisted them in their job. You say world wars, napoleon, every great historical figure since the 12th century has passed through paris and this cathedral has survived countless wars. This is going to be a moment to see whether it continues to stand. Harris are producers excuse me, benjamin. I will come right back. Our producers are now working the story as well. Finally now this is on the french news on television, and i would imagine the radio across the country, due to president mccone speaking to the nation he was talking about this at 8 00 p. M. Local there. The pictures, you can watch, they are impressive. The smoke from the flames. Im just reading it to you as its coming into the newsroom now. A threat to the part of the building. Now we are learning through this report, local time, due to the renovation work being done at the cathedral, mostvisited historical monument. Fires started at 6 50 p. M. Local time. This, according to french press. Our news producers here at fox news are working on this. Now we are told there is threat of part of the building. Part of the building could collapse. All firefighters hands on deck here. I will keep clicking for my newsroom, benjamin, and as you learn more, too im sure you are next to one of our newsroom laptops as well. Local reports are saying of the fire is so important that there are possibilities that president macron will be delayed until tomorrow. This we understand it was a tapereported thing that was supposed to happen from the president. Then these local reports, the risk of collapse of part of the building is being reported. At what you learning . Weve just heard that there are boats now being mobilized down the river seine which runs right alongside the cathedral. They are obviously going to try and tackle the fire from the river, either side. Pump water up. Again, that iconic river that goes on either side of notre dame. To try and get the hoses up from that way. But it seems as if they are now trying from every angle. We are not sure if they can get inside the cathedral because of the scale of this fire at this point. They are trying everything. Earlier on we did see some helicopters flying overhead. Whether they are trying to tackle the blaze from the air, we dont know. Certainly now the boats have been mobilized and they are getting to the scene as quickly as possible to try and deal with it that way. Tourists will be all over that area so axis will be notoriously hard. We are seeing a request from the french to keep back, keep away. Let them get as close as possible. The symbol of france really going up in flames of the moment. We are trying to get more details at the moment, harris. But theres very little coming up. Harris can you see this . Ive been in the bureau, so i cant i cant, sorry. Harris i sort of know in the monitors are they. I just want to talk about this parade this now. The Notre Dame Cathedral student still in use for sunday mass by the roman Catholic Church. Its the seat of the archbishop of paris. Youre hitting Benjamin Hall reporting for us, from the bureau in london. He and i have been talking about the cathedral and its history there. But this is world history, too. This is something that has withstood wars, and even under protection of removing stained glass for fear that the german soldiers would destroy this beautiful structure and historical structure as they rampaged across europe. Notre dame, de paris, is one of the largest and most gnomic cathedrals in the globe, attracting thousands of visitors a year. You heard them and jim and no ones ago that be hard to clear and get in for firefighters for all of them that are there. We have reports that people are stepping back. Look at the flame. It certainly doesnt look like they have control over this right now. The president of the United States has just weighed in. On twitter, President Trump so horrible to watch the massive fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in paris. Perhaps flowing water tankers could be used to put it out. Must act quickly. The world is watching. Benjamin, you are with me. I know you are gathering more details. I want to go back to some of the notes and make clear, because this was three translation and i think that translation we can learn some things. It is finally being broadcast on french newspaper president macron was speaking to the nation at 8 00 p. M. All across the news. That, we are told, was on tape. No reporting of the fire at that time. That may actually now into its entirety get pushed back to tomorrow. Again, i use the words of the translation because this fire is so important. It is important, and also huge, and big news all around the world. The pictures you can see showed the smoke and the flames, and now reports that a part of the building threatens collapsing. Benjamin . And again, we are just looking at pictures from the inside before this fire took place. You can imagine how hard it is to get up to the very rooftop. I mean, the ceiling is hundreds of feet, i would say. Such difficult building to try and tackle, which is why we are now hearing they might trying to it from the outside and possibly also from the air. But it does look as if that one spire at the very top now is totally engulfed. We are also hearing like you are that parts of that back side of the building, behind the native, are collapsing. At this point, it feels very much as if the famous notre dame, at least that back end, is really going up in flames. I think there are some images now, of some parts actually falling. This is a terrible, terrible day, frankly. A lot of religion history, culture, all tied up in this building. Its such a symbol of france. This is going to shake that nation to the very core. A nation that brought itself together through all those terror attacks that we saw. This cathedral that had been attacked so many times going back centuries. To not be brought down by a fire that may have been started through renovations alone. Again, we are not of the blame stage, but some serious questions will be asked about how this couldve happened. More immediately, what can be done to save the cathedral now. This ancient cathedral, going back hundreds and hundreds of years. Of course, the french government will be trying to do everything they can. I know that all the other nations around the world will be reaching out to support. Harris weve heard word from President Trump as well come on twitter. This, according to the associated press. Firefighters are now dealing with the flames that are shooting from the base of the churchs spire. That when we saw, where it looked like pieces were coming down in the flames. That has burned very badly. The peak of the church is undergoing a 6000000euro or an estimated 6. 8 million renovation projects. French media are quoting the paris fire brigade is saying the fire is potentially linked to that renovation work. Benjamin hall reporting for us in london at our bureau there, as you gather more information i will bring you back. I thought it was interesting that you were able to look at photos that we cannot see here because you are there and you studied these things all the time about the history i do bring that forth when there are attacks there were anything that happens in the cities. I want to give you moment to step away and look at the inside of the cathedral before, seek and give us a good description. You said the tall ceilings. Ive been in there, thats true. But where they would have had to go to try and fight this. I will come back to you momentarily. You good . All right. Thank you. Think you come harris. Harris i want to bring in doug we need to, hes on the phone for a spin im hopeful that you can give us the images of what we can see on the screen so you can talk with us, mr. Weed, about what losses we may be seeing today in terms of this structure. Heartwrenching. Its tragic to see this. My wife is french. Shes in france right now with her parents, who have gone through illness. Many, many times i have gone through the cathedral with my family, my children, and what struck me is the hundreds of years it took to create it. I will never forget standing there. One of the archways, hearing the story, though the no longer exist today, that can do some of the work that was done. One art took several hundred years to create, all within the same family. A father would raise his son to do the same work, who would raise his son to do the same work. Three or four generations to create the one archway. Of course, this is the place where napoleon was crowned emperor of france. Took the crown and put it on his own head. So much of history. This is just really, really tragic to lose this. Harris i want to talk about you and your wife, she is frequently there and paris, and is there today would be able to tell us about what mightve been going on inside the church. They would be giving tours this time of the day, earlier, but this happened in the evening. We are told it happened at about 6 50 p. M. Local time in paris and has been burning for more than two hours. What can you tell me about what it would look like in a day of people being their customer they are asking people to get back. Its always in renovation come as you know. As you can imagine, because of its condition. It is never finished, so to speak. Their lives, the Services Come of the is performed there. They have different parts of the building where that goes on. I am just deeply moved by watching this. The oldest restaurant in the world looks on, in the view that im seeing on fox news, its being shot across in the city from approximately the location. Its called the tariff silver. Its the tallest tower in the world, and its famous for introducing silverware. Before people would eat with their fingers. It still exists. My goodness, this is harris i hear it in your voice. Its amazing that this couldve happened but im concerned by this. Harris i was look at the Human Element of things being impacted, and im glad there werent people inside. We havent had the details of who would have been that side at 6 50 p. M. Local time. Its a cathedral. So people go there to pray, the roman Catholic Church is still horton Potomac Holding sunday mass its not and think will that they would be people in there. We dont know if thats the case. To give us a couple of details. Historian douglas weed is with me now. He is giving us details about the present day, notre dame church, and what that is like. You mentioned that small island, which i know it sits along the river. I wonder if you can talk about the central location. Thats what has always struck me about notre dame. Its that accessibility. Everybody can see it from almost any place you stand in the central part of paris. That was paris. It was that island, that Little Island in the middle that seemed so small today, but that was the whole city. The walls were built around it, and that was where the left bank and the right bank come from. We talk in american politics about leftist and rightist. On the right come on the left. That comes from that us seine rr that splits and goes around notre dame and the ile de la cite. On the left, the sorbonne, on the right side, the louvre, which was a great palace built by the king and became a museum. There was the beautiful flower markets, and other markets that existed. People who lived there. And the walls were built to keep away the vikings. It they would raid down through that river. Our own Benjamin Franklin lived not far from notre dame, and there is a restaurant that celebrates the fourth of july every year, unbroken, since americas independence. Its located just a few blocks from notre dame. Harris you give us such rich detail about the interwoven fabric between america and not just france but europe. Such richness in your details. Im so appreciative of that. The president has tweeted out about this, just momentarily. I want to reshare that president ial tweet. So horrible to watch the massive fire Notre Dame Cathedral in paris. Perhaps flying water tankers could be used to pull it out. Must act quickly we are watching these flames appear to grow, and doug weed, as we see that, we know this fire was completely engulfed and that they were working at the base of that. Can you talk with me about the structure inside and how difficult this would be . Benjamin hall, our correspondent in london, said he was looking at pictures inside to the cathedral. In the ceilings were so tall that to get to above you would almost the letter after letter just to get to that next level of ceiling. And then to go further into the attic areas. What can you tell me about the inside of the cathedral . That would be a momentous monumental pass that would require great scaffolding to get up there. I can see why that would be difficult. To control the fire, and of course the materials. The loss of that spire, so many thousands of pieces of art include and show that spire. I imagine they will be able to reconstruct it, but the original will be gone. So intricate, so beautiful, and so original. You cant build i mean, the cost of building notre dame today, it would go into the billions of dollars. It took generations to build. Hundreds of years to build. Its just amazing to me. The height would be tremendous. The lowers i remember scaffolding, preparing to some of the artist he would walk under. Comparatively within the reach. Compared to those, the size of the cathedral. Harris 800 years to build completely, this structure, because its been worked on through the years. Its 800 years old. 200 years of actual construction in that. Many decades, as you say, doug weed, historian during and after the breaking news. To keep it restored. Generations of people working on it. Thank you very much. As this continues to unfold, as you get more details, i will toss out a Shepard Smith with more on the breaking News Coverage at notre dame where a fire has broken out of epic proportions. Shep . Shepard harris, thanks. Continuing to watch the split screen feed of a site that is really almost impossible to imagine. If you have been to paris and seen this marvel of architecture, and really a relic of paris and world history, it is hard to believe that we are listening. The spire atop the cathedral of notre dame i notre dame is burning, and no doubt will soon collapse. Much of notre dame is engulfed in flames. Inexplicably, and with no information, no water is being put on this building. In the heart of paris, as we approach them down, in the city of lights, notre dame is burnin burning. And no one, so far, has been able to begin the process of putting it out. The original word came more than two hours ago, there had been fired. There was construction is there so often is at notre dame, and the construction site was believed to be the spot where the initial fire began to burn. That was the first word we received in the very early go. My goodness, as you can see, this fire has fully engulfed notre dame. While it was that in the early going they werent able to put out what was described to us in the very beginning as a small fire, just for some context, the french news agencies, Agency French press and some of the others, were not in local and live coverage of this from the very beginning because this fire was described as very small. Why they werent able can tell mike to contain his reporting for another day. But its clear from this view that much of notre dame and all its majesty is burning to the ground. The spire at the top of the cathedral is over the altar. The original spire was constructed in the 13th century. And now we know that the spire contains three real x. A tiny piece of the crown of thorns located in the treasury of the cathedral, and relics of the patron saints of paris. They were placed there in the year 1935 to protect the congregation from lightning or other harm. And now that spire has burned, and the cathedral at notre dame appears to be in grave danger of burning entirely itself. You may be asking the same questions that we are wheres the fire brigade . Answer that we have no answers. If youve been there, you know all around notre dame, at any hour of any day, in any weather, hundreds of thousands of people congregate to marvel at this world relic. And to enjoy the shopping and the congregation around. On a given day there will be hundreds, even thousands of people in and around notre dame. Getting people back and away from it, of course, would be a matter of some difficulty. With more than two and half hours in, they been able to accomplish that to some degree. But why theyve not been able to get the latters or the fire brigades up to the top, we simply dont know. Benjamin hall has been watching in horror with us from london. Just pictures that are beyond the imagination. Absolutely, shepard. Just like you weve been saying that happened at 11 30 eastern. It started off with some smoke. And everybody thought it would be put out soon. There was some restoration work out there. A router was of art between the two main towers to put out fires like this, but the smoke kept g. Eventually billing down all of paris. Then we began to see some small flames, about an hour or an hour and half after the smoke started. Even at that point there were no fire trucks on site. All we heard was for the pedestrians to move back so that there could be easy access to the cathedral. Still, nothing. Then we heard that, in fact, both were being deployed to try and fire water from the seine, which as you pointed out, goes to either side of the cathedral. Still, nothing there. No indication of how this started. He pointed out the 6000000euro renovation renovations. Weve been talking about reaching the top part of this spire where this started, the ceilings are so very high. The access up to them is by a very small stair case. If those are engulfed in flames, getting up those would be impossible. We, like you, are waiting to see what the response the authorities will take. Shep . Shepard Benjamin Hall watching as we continue to monitor the fire that is under way now at the cathedral at notre dame. 11 00 a. M. On the west coast, 2 p. M. On the east coast and 8 p. M. In the city of lights where Notre Dame Cathedral appears to be burning and is completely engulfed in flames. Were 42 minutes from sunset in paris. At that point the city of lights will go dark and notre dame, it would appear, will continue to burn. At this hour, firefighters have been unable to get water or other fire retardants to the main parts of the fire, which Benjamin Hall just mentioned began in a Construction Zone in the rear of this iconic building. And was noticeable only for a bit of smoke
