Democrats on the other hand will make the case that there are better ways to secure the border than putting up a barrier, even though many of them voted back into thousand six to build 700 miles of secure fencing along the southern border. The department of Homeland Security in a statement yesterday clarify her comment, saying overall we stop on average ten individuals on the terror watch list per day, from traveling to or entering the United States, and more than 3700 and fiscal year 2017. Most of those individuals are trying to enter the United States by air, but we must also be focused on stopping those who try to get in by land. Why is this important . If the president is hoping to sell the American People on the need for some sort of structure on the southern border, to prevent bad people from coming across the country, hes going to make sure there are no factual errors in that argument that democrats can tear apart. Because i think the American People believe there is a crisis of the border. Its a humanitarian crisis, as you have heard. Thats what president obama called it into thousand 14, because of the flood of Central Americans coming across. Unaccompanied children, or family units. Because of gaps in our law, they are unable to be processed as if they had come from mexico, for example. It is also a National Security vulnerability. 70,000 people died of drug overdoses last year in the United States, much of that from heroin. 90 of which came from mexico. We have supported Border Security, we will continue to support border secure to, we might just have different ideas of what that looks like. I do want to point out, however, it was only a few weeks ago that every United States senator including senator cornyn voted to reopen the government without having this issue settled. To not use this issue as leverage to try and get something they cant get through the normal legislative process. If it was a good idea three weeks ago, why cant the senate take up legislation that the house just past to reopen government and have a real honest debate about Border Security and immigration without using another crisis that is manufactured in order to get what they cant get through the normal process . Harris so i would think that when senator schumer was making some of the same points by shutting down the government in february of last year, that you must have had that same view at that time. Im going to push back, with all due respect, on the words people are using. Are you aware that your current House Speaker used the words about the president s manhood when it came up to wall funding . I think this has gotten less civil than most people would like. But when you look at the fact that democrats have actually voted for something similar in the past, it does seem to be a little hypercritical.
