That said with the election looming, the president s attorneys are preparing for the possibility that there may be a deal in place before the election and so theyre just making sure that their ducks are in a row, theyve got the questions pared down to a reasonable number that they want to answer and of course, he would start to potentially write out potential answers to questions just to know what youve got. The last time that there was a back and forth between Robert Mullers office on the president s attorneys, there seem to be some sort of operating principle that the questions would only go to russia and possible collusion on the part of the trump campaign, they would not be any questions on when obstruction of justice or article to issues but theres no agreement in place and actually got off the phone was somebody who is familiar with all of this was at its potentially less likely that this happens then more likely that it happens. And if it doesnt happen before the election, its possible that it might not happen at all because the Mueller Investigation continues to drag on and on and the president s attorneys have been on record as saying that they think its time to draw this whole thing to a close. So where we are right now, the two sides are still talking. The president s attorneys are making preparations that they think they need to have in place in case there is a deal struck. The various committees in the house and the senate, all of that is made this a very rocky and a very difficult road. Bottom line is, russia did involve itself in the election. And we need to protect our electoral processes, we know at this moment that russia continues to involve itself in the november elections. The information coming from the Mueller Investigation is not going to be particularly helpful at this moment, but in the future, 2020 is not so far away. We need to prepare to protect our electoral process and this investigation will undoubtedly provide us with ways we might be able to do that. Melissa folks on the right would wonder are you because equally interested in figuring out what happened with the fbi infusion gps and bruce ohr and Glenn Simpson . Is a topic were going to talk about coming up next on the show and i wonder if youre concerned about the influence of russia, there was a connection there in terms of the information that was put together in the dossier and who provided it and a lot of questions on that side as well that americans are working on. There certainly are questions that have been raised by various committees in the house in the senate. And those questions are out there. The answers to those questions remain to be seen but what we do know is that however the beginnings of this entire issue whether it started with the gps fusion or any other thing, nonetheless it has been shown to have substance. The 37 indictments in various plea agreements to various crimes, all of that gives us substance to whatever it may have been that started the investigation. The point right now is mueller needs to continue to move forward expeditiously and consistently to find the truth of the matter, bottom line is, whatever the president may or may not have been doing in the campaign. That is, which you first start meeting, when did you learn about the dossier, who paid for it, questions like that. But we are not going to get answers to those questions. We are told hes going to take the fifth which if i were representing him, and i dont like to comment on how all the lawyers act, i would do the same thing. I would advise him to take the fifth because it is enshrined in our constitution and now that he sees the inconsistencies, why should he subject himself to prosecution or to perjury . Be what i dont know if you heard Catherine Herridges report, but the ideas that Clint Simpson testifying before the Senate Intel Committee and said one thing about whether he first had contact with bruce ohr about the dossier and then bruce ohrs email told a totally different story. Why does that matter . It matters substantially because if he asked those questions and gives inconsistent answers, he is subject to perjury or can be used against him in the substantive prosecution. Melissa what would it mean . This idea when catherine was talking about the idea that Glenn Simpson was shopping the dossier around, various fbi people come i didnt get traction than he met with bruce ohr who kind of funneled in after they had decided that maybe it wasnt necessarily a good story and he brought it in from a place where his wife worked. Why would any of those details matter . Giving bruce ohr the benefit of the presumption of innocence which many people did not give to judge kavanaugh, notwithstanding to answer your question, its something that affects all of us. The fisa warrant, but if the United States government high levels of the Justice Department misled a federal judge and based upon those misleading or omitting material facts, i. E. Who paid for this, that would take the fisa warrant and that would probably be terminal conduct on the part of any department of justice people who did that. So its very serious. Its something that needs to be investigated. Melissa would be the punishment for any of these people and potentially how high would it go . Who ultimately in the end is responsible for this kind of behavior within the fbi . Within the fbi come i could go to the very top and more importantly within the Justice Department, the buck stops on this matter with the Deputy Attorney general who signed off on at least the last warrant, and those of the things that independent of what the mueller team is doing a lot to be. As you asked your last gasp, notwithstanding what mueller is doing regarding the president , the faction, regarding the other side and the answer is of course, we need to be evenhanded. Is that in your mind with the goal of trying to figure out what happened with bruce ohr and with nellie ohr and Glenn Simpson and Christopher Steele about how to this investigation get started . Regarding the mueller team, all they can do is write a report and in that report, i think that if we learn conclusively how it started, that should go in the report also which would demonstrate the bias. But i need to point out having work with a special prosecutor that was a model of special prosecutors when you investigate the president , if you find evidence incriminating him or her, that is well and good but if you do not, you have not failed. All youre required to do is do a thorough job, the chips fall where they may. And i dont see the matter how many guilty pleas or indictments weve had, none of them have involved the president.
