An interesting statistic, and the the other thing is that we know that he is free to say whatever he wanted to say. In 30 hours of testimony, with the mueller folks, and thats pretty unique for the president to say to a white House Counsel, go ahead and do that. Harris as i was watching, just kind of what was being reported on the timing of all of this, and theres the discussion of whether or not the president should sit down with robert mueller. If you can show that other people can answer 30 hours of questions, it might be harder for you to then ask the president to sit down and tell you something you dont already know, which means other people can verify information which makes it less likely that the president would have to sit dow down. Bret it takes the urgency out of the request. I think the mueller people want to sit down and ask questions of the president and it doesnt seem like its headed that way to listen to Rudy Giuliani. But you are right, i think that openness that the president exhibited with letting the white House Counsel talking all the other officials talk, people say thats a bad legal strategy to protect the president. But the flip side of that is, they believe that there was nothing to see there. There was no there there. The white house will regret not evoking executive privilege. This shows what a c level team will have. You never waive that, absolutely not. And that put mcgann in a possible situation because once you weigh that privilege and turn over all those documents, don mcgann has no choice then but to go in and answer every everything. Harris of course he is looking at it for the eyes of a federal prosecutor, Chris Christie. Bret and we dont know what date or didnt happen in those hours of testimony. But we do know that the initial thought process with the legal team and the president was to be open. Ian it well there are two sides to the coin, its not a general murder trial where there is a weapon and an eyewitness, this is a trial involving 18 counts. Its not necessarily unusual for a jury to deliberate for an extended period of time, but it does look like Paul Manafort may have some hope here. First, the jury came back with a question, what does a reasonable doubt mean . If you are a defense attorney come any time someone comes back and ask for their burden of proof, they are thinking about whether there is enough evidence there. The second part, and its a small thing but the fact is that they had this on a friday. Juries know im did not like tk on a monday. If they get into the weekend and they are thinking about reasonable doubt, it may be some reasonable doubt does creep in. Its tough to know what the jury is thinking, but i do see some of that there. Harris if manafort is found guilty, what can the president do . Can he pardon anyone whom he wants . Absolutely. And there is a lot of misconception out there. The president has pardoned several people without going through the department of justice. The president has a pardon power from the u. S. Constitution, in the 1890s that was delegated to the office of department. It but it doesnt limit what the president can do. The president can pardon anyone, bill clinton pardon at 39 people without going to the Justice Department including his brother and whitewater associates.
