He will not be discussing an investigation of his son with any attorney general candidates. It will be up to the purview of the future attorney general and has administration to determine how to handle any investigation. Buck i think its troubling to see that the continuation of the suppression of the hunter biden story is the strategy here. Not just the story, mind you now, the investigation. This is taking a turn where it isnt just about with a social Media Companies will allow people to talk about it right before an election, which we know they did not, but it goes beyond that now to a question of what happens on the legal end of this. There has been a confirmation of a federal at least a probe, i should say. Itll be the earlier stages of looking at tax issues, money laundering, et cetera. This is why a special counsel look, i am general i am a supporter of what bill barr has done as attorney general. I think he has been exceptional in the role and a lot of people on the right who are friends of mine disagree with me on that. I think this is where you have to ask question, special councils are set up for circumstances like this where there is a clear conflict of interest with the executive branch paid in this case, that would commander in chief. Im wondering why it is. I think its probably that he wants to deescalate and not have the doj at the center again of what feels like a tit for tat going back and forth, using the doj as a weapon. Harris you know, gillian, this really leaves it in the hands of whoever comes next behind bill barr. Gillian it does. One important reality here, harris, is that no matter what device president elect biden does or doesnt do over the coming few weeks and months, whn he i in office, it doesnt go away. There are separate investigations into hunter. They are run by states, out of the fbi, and theres also potential for a congressional investigation next year when the new Congress Comes into office. Theres also the potential that a forthcoming attorney general may decide to appoint a special counsel here. Regardless of whether you like the way the Biden Transition Team is handling this or not, the issue is not going away. Theyre going to have to confront it at some point. Quick note here, biden himself, as a strategy, i decided to not address the issue at all. He has declined to talk to any journalist whatsoever about this issue. The only person ive seen him really talk to you at all and not ignore questions outright with is Stephen Colbert on his late night comedy show. That strategy is probably going to have to get adjusted, too, over the coming weeks is this thing ramps up. Harris i mean, stephen is a comedian, hes not a journalist. I have never been wildly impressed with bill barr, given his past and history working with bob mueller at creating big surveillance state as we know i. I thought he was questionable as attorney general, and i know there are people within the administration and fans of the president who felt like he was a good pick for the president , but i never you know, i dont think attorneys general have to have a certain level of loyalty to the president , but i dont think bill barr did, either. However, there are investigations going on right now. It was very frustrating for people who were supporting the president when the media would come out and say, the president was spit balling the idea of firing bob mueller, and that never happened. A lot of these things didnt happen. We have to be careful not to do the same thing here and just assume that joe biden is going to fire the u. S. Attorney in delaware, and somehow, with his cold hands, dismantled the federal grand jury. That stuff hasnt happened yet, and gillian is right in that, if he has someone who is kind of moderate like Merrick Garland or doug jones as ag, hopefully they will have enough rational capacity that, if there are real shenanigans and real blocking here in terms of justice and seeking the truth, that then that person can appoint a special counsel. The other thing is once he was briefed about this investigation, he says the fbi this is back in 2015 the fbi ended up thanking him for his role in facilitating this investigation. Do you buy that . Buck look, i dont think there is nothing here. I think his claim as a political hit is nonsense. To have the kind of contact he did with an alleged chinese spy raises very serious concerns, people bring up classified information, there has been no real allegation evidence of that. This is about influence operation, perhaps compromise on a personal level of someone who sits on the Intelligence Committee. Swalwell sang the fbi thanked him, who knows what that really means. Im sure at the end of whatever interview they had with him, they said thanks for your time, sir. Gillian the implication is that he somehow exonerated sorry to interrupt you. Buck of course that the implication, i think thats absurd. There should be a full investigation of exactly what went on here. We dont have all the answers, they are going to hide behind, as you and i both know, gillian, they will hide behind classification of this to make a lot of insinuations in the press. We cant get the answers right away.
