Its a rather odd comment that confirming the validity of the votes is delegitimizing democracy. You would think that the way to uphold democracy is to assure that, well, democracy happened. Guy well, i think its unlikely at this point and it seems like a lot of folks across the spectrum agree that the outcome of this election is going to be flipped from president elect biden to President Trump. But i think its reasonable to go through the process to make sure that we have everything correct. Where there are credible allegations, they should be investigated. That is what is happening. Where the Trump Campaign is entitled to recounts, that should take place. We see that happening in georgia already. Perhaps some other places. There is as you mentioned at the top, harris, a victory for the legal team on team trump in pennsylvania. Regarding a certain number of ballots. That wont change the outcome but if we want to instill confidence in the American People, that the outcome projected by all the Media Outlets is the correct and the fair outcome, to go through and to solidify those results by chasing down some leads and going through the full process, i think that is probably the right thing at this point. Harris marie, you know, its interesting because where your party stands right now is still perched on the precipice because youve got close to 73 Million People who didnt vote for joe biden. How does he, you know, how do you see him walking that divide right now and doing what he promised to do to bring everybody together while we go through this period of waiting for the certification in each state and the Electoral College voting . Marie well, look, joe biden is going to be the next president. We have never seen any recount overturn the kind of leads that he has in the states where he is ahead with 306 electoral votes. As many Media Outlets have called. And the Trump Campaign strategy is a political one, not a legal one. Joe biden has been out there talking about bringing the country together. What donald trump is doing from what guy mentioned. There is a Legal Process but what donald trump himself is doing is saying that he won, saying that the votes were rigged. He is sowing doubt among the 70 million plus supporters of his that this election was not fair. He is lying. He and his team are saying things that are not true. And so right now that has real consequences. Joe biden is not getting the president elect daily intelligence briefing that we know he will need going in to that job starting on day one. Harris all right. Marie there are other things not happening right now because donald trump is not telling the truth about the election. That is separate from legal recounts that people certainly have the right to. But we need to be very clear about the consequences and the danger of what donald trump is doing right now. Harris okay. I want to pick up on something she just said, katie, and that has to do with the situation with the transition documents and access and so on and so forth, the daily briefings. You have a growing list of senators, republican senators saying those things need to pick back up. I had well, actually senator langford oversees the Oversight Committee and he says he can see it happen, if not by today he may trigger action by his committee. In addition to that i had another senator on with me who said yeah, this is what donald trump had. Now this is what joe biden will get. Unless something changes. Katie i think its fair that joe biden be given the classified briefings. After all he was the former vice president. He has been in this highprofile position before. If things turn out the way they look now he will be the president. But in terms of this voter fraud allegations and the legal fights here, i think its really important to point out the consequences of not going through the process of looking in to irregularities for future elections. The fact is a number of the election processes were changed in the middle of the election. We had a number of the states mailing out ballots to the entire voter roll list, despite there being people who moved out of town or people no longer living, maybe people who changed their addresses. So there are a lot of questions that need to be answered about the process because in the future we dont want it to be a problem. Now, also, this idea that its okay to have a little bit of fraud even if it doesnt change the outcome. I think is ridiculous. There should be no fraud. One vote taken away il illegitimately for another voter no matter where they are, even not in a swing state is not okay. I understand that the outcome here is important because we are talking about a president ial transition. However, when it comes to the process here, no fraud should be acceptable. Weeding that out through transparency and Legal Processes is really important thing to do for the future. Harris well, hopefully all americans agree with that because that is what we would want. Especially as we head up, katie, in to the runoff season in georgia. That is going to be so pivotal for both parties. Emily, though, im wondering, we are never going to get perfection. Right . There will be human errors. That is also worth learning about. It can be fraud, it can be the other things. But you had 73 million vote for one candidate. North of 77 for another candidate. That is huge. The American People deserve to know that their votes have been counted fairly. That is right, harris. That goes to the larger point that even with an acknowledgement that many of the suits the remedy sought will not in fact overturn the election results, that it is still crucial to pursue them nonetheless to get to the bottom of it. If he loses, talking more about all he has accomplished. Geraldo also an attorney, guy. So i would imagine they would have had a similar conversation probabl of the ones we have on this very program. Guy the president if he wants to talk about the accomplishments, there are a lot to highlight. There is no question about that. There are some rumors out there that he might be looking ahead four years from now to run again. If he wants to press the case and talk about what he has done with these four years, that is absolutely fair game. If he is a realist and he understands what the real math looks like here and he is going to do the right thing, that is all great. I hope that is true. But to claim, as he has, the president , that he has won the election, he has won it by a lot, that millions of votes were switched, that type of rhetoric inflames the matter, inflames the situation. There are some people who are the main street democrats say we dont mean defund the police. But a. O. C. Says that is exactly what we mean. Abolish the police on the crazy left or cut funding for the Police Department for the Law Enforcement and that sort of thing. We hear so often from the left that even a reduction of the rate of increase in spending on any Government Program will constitute a cut that is draconian and it will cause all the problems but when it comes to Law Enforcement and the mill their they finally turn in to the budget hawks and believe we should make real cuts, actual cuts. I think that is revealing and this is something that the voters perhaps noticed in a lot of places last week. Katie yeah. Marie, you have congressman James Clyburn saying the reason he thinks that Lindsey Graham was successful is a result of the defund the Police Policy push from the far left. She wasnt talking about abolishing Police Departments. She was talk about how we can provide safety for our communities. Whether it always manes the police, the answer is no. It includes other things. So, i do think that when it comes to members of congress, democrats even the far left is not talking about getting rid of the Police Departments. Democrats have to do a better job. I think often of explaining that. They also need to go on offense more. If im sitting here today my bigger concern about the safety in the country today is several incoming republican members of congress support a group, the f. B. I. Called a domestic terrorist threat. Why arent we talking about that extremism, that threat to our safety . So spare me the outrage that a. O. C. Thinks we need more Mental Health workers. Lets talk about the real threats we face, the safety issues that the congress is dealing with and look at this for what it really is. Katie if we want to talk about the real safety and issue and threats, harris, we have seen crime in minneapolis go through the roof after the city council there voted to defund the police. In fact, they are trying to bring in outside police work now because crime is so out of control with murders up by Something Like 80 this year. Harris you couple that with the officers who left. Either through retirement or many other reasons. I mean you have holes to fill. You are right, they are recruiting and trying to fill those. That brings me to the point of alexandria ocasiocortez. I have done a lot of ridealongs in different television markets. A lot of the reporters do them. You understand the policing in your own communities. It makes your reporting more factual because you have relationships with police officers. So on and so forth. I wonder how much the congresswoman has done of that. A, in her own district. Has she feathered out across the nation to compare it when she says they are spending too much. You have a lot of people who live across the river from new jersey write am here. It takes a lot to get that done. At we saw at the start of all of the protests back in may after the death of george floyd, you know, it takes a lot to keep the peace. But at the same time the streets want justice. We understand that. By streets we mean peaceful protesters, the citizens. I dont know if that type of message as the democrats have told me. I know joe manchin. Senator manchin on this issue. I dont think he is going to become a republican but i guess he could get pushed over the edge. I doubt that picture will do it from what i know about him. You look at all the thing tas go into it. You have representative cuellar in texas, a blue dog democrat. He says if you get the lingo out there and you back it up by taking money away where does it leave everybody . I just ask how well does she know her own district and what they are fighting in terms of the crime and compare it to the rest of the nation before she says one size fits all like a free tshirt. Young males of color continue to be shot and killed by other males of color in the same communities she wants to defund. Emily, your response to that . Emily right. We have seen in the last year in new york city increase in homicide by 37 . And a doubling of shootings. That as the budget has been slashed by about 1 billion. To harris point about the community, however, i want to point out that i agree with the come woman. Yes, safet congresswoman. Safety comes in all forms but that is different than investing in the community which includes investing in the Law Enforcement. And the relationship that the police have with their communities. Now per gallup we know that the majority of americans want to see the same or more Police Presence in the neighborhood, including 81 of black americans. Also true, the majority of americans want to see Police Reform including the majority of black americans. But less than 15 actually want the police to be abolished. Well under half of americans want to see reduction in police budget. This is fringe ideas that dont reflect the boots on the ground in the community, especially in new york. Final reminder the control over the local budgets and the local Law Enforcement budgets comes from the local leadership. Not from the federal congresswomen. He is looking at this from a holistic point of view. Its interesting in the last hour on americas newsroom we at fox had a doctor advising the Biden Transition Team on covid. She used a helpful analogy. She said dont think of the lockdowns as on and off switch. Lockdown or everything en. Think of it as a light dimmer and okay, now that the cases are off the charts, horrific, horrible in this country what can we dim down temporarily in terms of what people are able to do to get the disease under control . It doesnt mean shutting everything down. But some things are more dangerous, whether its tin door dining or certain gyms or businesses. We have to look at the light dimmer. People also have to change their behavior. Masks work. We know that masks work. Distancing works. We need to do all of these things at the same time. I dont want to get too far away from this thought, guy. We are not where we were in february. Now you have people who have run out of that relief. We cant get the people on the hill to pass something to give them that coronavirus relief. You talk about a four to sixweek shutdown and you will do it without the resources you need in many cases across america. I hear what has played out but i also hear from the people with legitimate concerns about their future. And they have children. And those things that katie is talking about. How do they provide for everybody . This is a different point. Vise so the explosion of guy so explosion of cases across the whole country is worse than it was. The good news is the lethality of the virus is way down and the good news there is a vaccine coming. We are in a different place now than we were then. But the goal of flattening the curve, and slowing the spread especially to keep the hospitals from getting overrun, that is a real concern as we are seeing the numbers not just tick up, but spike up from coast to coast. So what do you do . This is a really hard thing. Im all for masking. Im all for social distancing. People watching their hands, being responsible. But if you are going to tell any significant number of americans that they need to stay at home, lock down again, the economic implications are enormous and perhaps not survivable for people and a lot of businesses. So they argue to say look, Hardware Stores and pet stores and the like have zero capacity requirements but we have the capacity for hundreds and hundreds of people are limited or subjected to the tenperson rule regardless of the zone they say. They are arguing the disproportionate effect. A lower court, however, did rule against them in a prior ruling but it remains to be seen and we should watch how it plays out as we have been talking about given the fact chance or the chance of a second lockdown and the ramifications it could have on the social and Mental Health. Katie you know, harris, a lot of this has to do with the broken public trust with the Public Officials who are telling americans to suck it up, lose their livelihoods and move on. A lot of the rules and the regulations are arbitrary and capricious. They are not applied equal. Then you turn around and tell Small Businesses they can no longer operate and they have to shut down without providing scientific evidence. People start to ask questions why the government gets to decide who gets to make a living and who doesnt based on how they feel about the certain rights and liberties in this country. Saying we have to win georgia so we dont have to negotiate with the republicans. Thats as clear as it gets. Their words. Not mine. As i said, if i was the g. O. P. In the campaign would make sure every georgian heard the clips as often as possible for the next six weeks. Katie marie, given the enormous amount of money poured in the South Carolina senate race, 100 million on behalf of the democrat there, and the loss that came with is, is it hard for the democrats in georgia to get the big checks given the lack of success previously . Marie i dont think so, katie. In part because joe biden won georgia. Last week. We have seen the democrats can win statewide in georgia. It just happened. So there is a pathway, sort of a playbook here that the democrats are going to try to use. So, i do not think the republicans or democrats should take the seats for granted. I think you will see a lot of the high profile leaders on both sides of the aisle head to georgia to try to get their side to turn out. The question will be whether the republicans turn out when donald trump is not on the ballot. But i do think when we look at the numbers of how much spending goes in the races this is a side note we need this is a side note, but we need campaign reform. We know what happened in 2010 in the 28 midterms that saw significant swing away from the party that just claimed the white house. But the way it is shaping up this year is unique in that if the republican backstop occurs in the senate that we are expecting it would probably mean that there wouldnt be a significant piece of the legislation that biden could pass. Im just musing here but it might mean that there wasnt something for the people to rally against or the g. O. P. Voters to rally against in 2022.
