Meadows. The president in consultation with the doctors will make a decision on whether to discharge him later today, we are still optimistic that based on his unbelievable progress and how strong hes been in terms of his fight against the covid19 disease that he will be released by that decision wont be made until later today. Harris chief White House Correspondent john roberts is live for us outside walter reed. John . No surprise that Kayleigh Mcenany has tested positive for coronavirus, she was in proximity to hope hicks last week, she was taken off the trip to bedminster because she had been in proximity to hope hicks, she went ahead with a briefing on thursday afternoon, she says that she did not know that she was potentially exposed at that point because she did not know hope hicks tested positive pay the statement was after testing negatively consistently including every day since thursday i tested positive for covid19 on monday mornings. Listed as close contest by the white house medical unit. In terms of the pool being called up here to walter reed, trace alluded to that a few moments ago. The white house wants to hit the pool in proximity to the president s doctors just in case they do decide to call a briefing, we expect a briefing may be called at some point today, likely not until sometime maybe early afternoon, midafternoon. The president did get out and about a little bit yesterday in the evening, he decided to get into one of his uparmored suvs and visited the crowd of the people gathered in front of the entrance to walter reed on National Military medical facility, the president wanted to say thanks for people who have been here literally since he arrived on friday afternoon. It did lead to instant criticism of the president for potentially putting his secret Service Detail at risk, here is the president in the throes of coronavirus disease and he gets into a confined space. But we are told by Corey Lewandowski who was on fox earlier this morning that the two secret Service Agents volunteered to drive the president and there was a plexiglas partition between the passenger compartment and the drivers compartment. Heres what mark meadows, the chief of staff set about all of that this morning. Well, the secret Service Agents, how do we think that he got here . We came here in mario marine one secret Service Agents have been with him in cars, we took initial precautions with ppe and others to make sure they were protected. We havent had a medical update since yesterday morning on the president , his doctor has said there were some tense moments on friday, it looks like the president might rapidly progress from mild to severe coronavirus disease. They gave him oxygen on medication and took him to walter reed so he could be close to aggressive care if needed and there has been some aggressive care, harris, over the weekend, the president was started on ram doeand his oxygen saturation levels dropped, i dont want to say precipitously but significantly, the doctors became worried and put them on a steroid called dexamethasone which helps improve lung function by lowering information. Harris . Harris john roberts, thank you very much, we continue to look live outside across from where john roberts is standing, you see people waiting outside in support of the president , waiting to hear whatever the latest will be today, whether this is about to discharge, continuing information about the president s condition. I am here on outnumbered, gillian turner, dr. Nicole saphier, host of kennedy on fox business, kennedy and in the center seat, virtually these days, cohost of fox friends weekend, pete hegseth. I was just talking about the people who were standing outside yesterday, they got a little bit of the view of the president as he choose chose to go in a hermetically sealed motorcade around town. First of all, your topline thoughts as we head into a new week . President trump sp 819. Pete the topline thought is we didnt know initially what how serious the prognosis was in the what the developments would look like. Thank goodness his condition has improved, he will likely be released soon, that is good news no matter where you are on the political spectrum. I also love the videos and messages hes put out over the weekend, especially the one on saturday that talked about being a leader, leading from the front and saying, listen, i had a choice, i could stay at the white house or go to walter lead and take this very seriously, i had a choice to hide in a bunker or be out with the American People and in the military we have a principal, you never want to ask your soldiers to do something you wouldnt be willing to do yourself and i think the president has said, we see these essential workers around america, doctors, nurses, police officers, grocery workers, who dont have an option to do their work from zoom or on skype and they have to be out there and the president has chosen to say im right there with you, i somehow also was able to contracted despite being in an incredibly secure bubble and im going to get through this just like so many of you have so i think his message of optimism, of leadership is something our nation needs to hear right now, harris. Harris peach, i may be living under a very largesized rock but i didnt know that about you and i wish you a speedy recovery from covid19. Pete who, me . No, no, im talking about the president. Harris i heard you use first person and i was like, oh, my goodness. Pete i was at the rose garden event and i have been tested, i tested negative, there were people there that didnt get it but ive talking about the president and hes situation. Harris when you quoted that first person, god, im glad we are on record clearing it up and also that you are healthy, obviously. Kennedy, there was quick criticism over the weekend when there was some misrepresentation by the doctor, about how the president was doing, he said he chose to use the words he did because he wanted those words not to have the Information Set things off on a negative course, i am somewhat paraphrasing but only very lightly, what are your thoughts . Kennedy yeah, i think we knew, we just had a sense then t things were worse than they were letting on and if theres one thing i dont like it is a lack of transparency and everyone has been touched by this virus. Personally or they know someone who has contracted it and god forbid who has succumbed to it and we know how quickly the virus can turn and i think its really important to be straightforward with the American People because we are not living in north korea, we dont have to be fed propaganda about the leaders condition so if he is deteriorating and requiring oxygen i think its okay to tell people that because it also lets people know that this virus is very serious and for some people it can take a very quick turn and you have to act immediately. I think the good news and i know drdoctor can speak to this is tt it seems as though they are trying some new stuff and for people who were worried about contracting it, that could be good news because if you can go to your doctor or the emergency room if you are experiencing the same symptoms and get a similar cocktail of that can offer a lot of hope. Harris thats a really good question. I did not find it was easy for people to gain access to some of the drugs, in fact, remdesivir is some of the hospitals at least in my area on the east coast, they purchase these medical facilities purchased ram doeandmake their own decisions t who is going to get that and i would imagine thats acrosstheboard so it might not be as easy as kennedy is saying, its going to depend on hospital budgets, their ability to purchase these things and so much more. Dr. Saphier thats right, harris, and specifically the regeneron, the antibody cocktail the president received at the white house, that is still an early phase one, two clinical trial, less than 300 people have been given it at this time, not exactly sure on the numbers, its still very early on. The good news is the data was very encouraging without any safety events and it seems the president did himself respond positively to it. In terms of remdesivir, yes, i will tell you that all across the nation hospitals do have remdesivir but it is in limited supply and hospitals are not giving it out to every person who is being admitted to the hospital with covid have a 19, they have to make sure they have enough for the people that really need it. Unfortunately it is rationing at this point because it is a very new medication. That being said, this Time Next Year i have a feeling we are not going to be in the same situation. Harris i dont know how much that helps the people this year because its its pretty expensive stuff, too. Doctor, if the panel will sit by i want to have a followup conversation with you about how this spreads. The words are still hanging in the air from when you and i talked on friday, time you spend with someone, more than 15 minutes up close, maskwearing, distance, its time, its maskwearing, those things matter. Another person in the inner circle and someone that we in the fox family know pretty well, White House Press secretary used to be on our air quite frequently as a guest, now she leads from the lectern every day, White House Press briefings, positive for covid. Thats right, harris, i dont know how many times i can say and stress that this is a highlycontagious virus. I understand they are getting tested every single day but we are still discouraging large inperson gatherings in enclosed spaces because it is not foolproof and we discussed this a lot last week, the virus can transmit on surfaces and you can then touch the surface, put it in your mouth, you are much more likely to get it by being in close contact with someone because not only is it in the respiratory droplets when they cough, sneeze, even speak but it can linger in the air potentially four hours as there is good evidence suggesting that the virus, not surprising that when you have one person in a larger Group Gathering that multiple people are going to get infected. Weve seen these super spreading events, we saw in in washington at our choir practice, the church and elsewhere across the globe, these things happen. Harris yeah, i immediately thought about what youre saying, youve got marine one, air force one, reports that hope hicks, they were trying to quarantine on that flight back from the ohio debate and i would imagine, i know its a big plane but i would imagine thats hard to do, its still an enclosed structure. Absolutely. Luckily, airplanes tend to have hepa filters so there Filtration Systems are better than a lot of enclosed spaces. Its difficult to say and dont forget you are still contagious before the symptoms start so she may have been quarantined once the symptoms start but who she came in contact before the symptoms starts are also at risk. Risk. Harris real quickly, gillian, i watched some of your reporting as well on National Security issues, curious to know what you learned. Gillian every source that i have spoken to, current National Security officials, former National Security officials all to a t tell fox news that the most important concern here is continuity of government. Not to raise alarms and say there is a need for National Security but continuity is something they are really focused on. A quick word on what dr. Saphier was just saying, i have some firstperson perspective to offer here, i myself had covid, i am fully recovered and it was a blessedly mild case but my doctors were not ever effectively able to figure out how i contracted it. I wore masks all the time, i stayed away from other people indoors and somehow managed to contracted anyway. My husband at the same time who i obviously live with stated negative the entire time. There are still mysteries about how the virus spreads, there are still a lot of details that we dont know now and are not going didnt know for a long time, harris. The reality is we still dont know, the medical Community Still doesnt know everything there is to know about how it holds and transmits among population so its probably going to be decades before we know everything about covid. Harris and they come from, doctor, and the same Building Block that the common cold is a coronavirus. Next, how the president s recovery from covid19 is shaking the campaign, the Vice President ial debate is still on for wednesday although now they are going to stand like 12 feet apart instead of seven and some other details we can tell you about pay the Trump Campaign says it is moving full steam ahead. Harris Vice President mike pence and senator Kamala Harris still set to debate in salt lake city, utah, on wednesday of this week, less than a week after President Trump tested positiv positive for covid19. The president s campaign aiming to keep a very busy schedule, launching operation maga with less than a month until the election. Trump Campaign Senior advisor Mercedes Schlapp explains. We are not going to stop, the president fought for us for a long time, we are out there fighting for him, we are deploying the first family, doing virtual events, inperson events, this is going to go on, full steam ahead to ensure that we get the president reelected in november. Harris meanwhile, joe biden is campaigning in florida today, his Campaign Says if the president is able to make their second debate a week from this thursday, biden will be ready pay lets talk about Vice President pences role in all of this. He stepping into the poll here, we are getting daily notifications both for him and his wife of their testing results, negative this morning, we got one yesterday so we are up to speed on where the Vice President is and he will have a busier schedule i would assume in place of the president until we see President Trump again. Pete i think so, this may be the most important week of the campaign for him as Vice President , who wouldve thought the undercard could end up being the biggest show, he and Kamala Harris coming up this wednesday, a chance where she has embraced far left policies where joe biden is one of those liberal members of the senate, hes going to have a chance to focus in on whether its policing, taxes, the border, all the other issues at stake, she can draw a contrast that maybe didnt exist in the first debate and the campaign trail, i think report is supporters of the pret see him at a steady, loyal, steadfast supporter of the president , it will be very interesting to see how and when the president makes his way back out there virtually or in person, i dont want to get ahead of ourselves, his health is far more important than that but hes the real draw, the real energy comes from him, we shall see. Harris ph, if everybody will sit by for a second i want to do a quick followup with you, what do you think it says about the tone and tenor of this campaign when you see joe biden step back and he says, at least a few days ago, they are going to stop all the negative ads, they didnt stop all the advertising but the ones that were specifically negative against his opponent and taking a high road and all of this . Pete yeah, they stop some of the negative ads, not all of them were stopped, some did make their way through and if you look at the statements he made over the weekend if you watch very closely on fox friends, he was taking the eggs anyway, we all know theres a big difference in approaches between joe bidens basement strategy, stay away no matter what and Donald Trumps big rallies, we are going to let them make a choice and i as a leader will decide how and when im out there so they are contrasting views both of which are serious on the virus, biden still did take swipes and certainly Kamala Harris did as well paid and bernie sanders. Harris kennedy . Kennedy i actually am looking forward to this debate, its going to be completely different than what you saw last week and i do think that last weeks debate performance hurts the president in the polls if the polls are to be believed at this point but there is so much that Vice President pence can go after senator harris four and all he has to do is take a look at her record as d. A. And ag in california and it is so problematic and the thing about her record is she is very defensive, if you look at Tulsi Gabbards debate performance, she landed the most blows against harris and really took her out of the race by taking a critical look at her record because senator harris cannot have it both ways. She cannot be a law and order heavyhanded cop who kept people in cages even though they were clearly innocent in california and went after four parents for truancy and tried to throw them in jail and also be this medicare for all, trying to destroy private Health Insurance ultra progressive and there are so many holes in her story and all Vice President pence has to do is poke at those and take a critical look and she will fall apart. Harris the double down now with kennedy and other followup questions, is this an opportunity for Vice President mike pence to also do some things with coronavirus where pollingwise, he is in charge of the task force still, he can talk so specifically and in such detail about it, is it an opportunity for him . Kennedy i think when he speaks in detail and a little more clinically it is helpful, he is going to have a win, take it out of the emotional sphere, topdown bureaucratic National Health care system approach to medicine will be much more harmful because if youve got one that can get on the same page in terms of treatments and protection and testing, people who are the lowest wage earners who need help the fastest will be the last to get the help and thats always the problem with socialized medicine. Harris al all right a live look now, lets take it outside walter reed medical center, thats where presidency doctors, the team said yesterday if he kept improving today they could discharge him. We are waiting to hear, we know he was supposed to have that meeting, have that consultation with doctors today, hopefully soon we will find out what the answer will be. We will take you there lie for updates. Add to the president does a surprise drive by to wave to supporters outside walter reed, that happened yesterday and it has some of the media. The president said that he got it and we see the president going around in a motorcade risking the lives of the secret service and in women that are protecting him. Gillian President Trump surprise supporters yesterday with a drive around the block just outside walter reed hospital. Like many decisions, President Trump makes the move with swift criticism and pushback from journalists and pundits alike. The president here is to assert and extend putting these secret Service Agents at some degree of higher risk. Intentionally expose them, what we saw a few hours ago, here at walter reed, the president visits supporters who have been gathered just behind me. Obviously the president prioritize the public image that he wanted to put forth. Gillian the white house started pushing back pretty much right away, they set appropriate precautions werent taken were , the movement was cleared by the medical team is safe to do. On that note, dr. Saphier, i want to come to you first, we are hearing reports that there is plexiglas inside that video protective separating the president from secret Service Officers. This is the secret Service Officer who has been with the president the entire time so is it really fair to say that there is additional exposure having him get in this vehicle with the president for an additional, lets say, 10 minutes maximum . Dr. Saphier i think whatever the president does regardless, hes always going to be criticized. In terms of this we always want to decrease exposure to anybody who doesnt necessarily need to be close to the president especially if hes contagious. If this is the same secret Service Agent who has been with him for several days without plexiglas, its likely his risk of exposure has already occurred and i can almost guarantee, we saw him wearing a mask, you know, is it a bit of a spectacle . Sure. Was it necessary, no, but this is the president , he wanted to make sure that the americans are standing outside that hospital, know that hes doing okay, he wants them to know how much he appreciates them. We take them outside of the hospital all the time, that being said, proper precautions, want to make sure they are not going to expose anyone unnecessarily. Gillian kennedy, is it not also the job of secret Service Agents to put their life on the line every single day for the president . I ask this not as a rhetorical question but because really, we are talking about, again, an additional 10 minutes so the president could send this message not just to supporters but to the entire world that he is alive and thriving and doing okay. Yes, and those secret Service Agents know the risk of the job, whether its from the unimaginable or easily foreseen with the virus, we dont know if those agents had previously tested positive and perhaps had antibodies, we know there was plexiglas trade was at the most necessary thing for the president to do . No, its a feelgood gesture but when youre highly contagious maybe those gestures can be sent out over resume or become a remember how great we felt when president reagan leaned outside of his window and waved to the adoring and terrified crowd to give us a little bit every reassurance after he was shot . But then you can also go to far like when Michael Jackson dangled his baby over a balcony so you really have to find the balance. Gillian that was definitely too far but peach, heres the thing, and im all about protecting people as much as humanly possible. But it was that just a feelgood gesture or was it because we are in the middle of a Global Pandemic and the president now has this Infectious Disease a little more important than that, was in a little bit more of a gesture to the American People as i said a moment ago that he is alive and thriving . And that has value in and of itself. It has value in and of itself. Its the symbolism, i want to thank the people who are here for me, i carried you and fought for you, i want to be out there to show you how much i appreciated and the cameras are going to be there and america is going to see that im out and about. Of course the secret service is a risk of the profession, although ppe that was there was the proper protocol. So shame on folks at cnn, the sham story, you wonder why people dont trust the media, why they call you the fake news and enemy of the people is because you manufacture stories and run these hyperbolic banners and make people think they should be panicking. We all know its a bunch of nonsense and you wonder why we are skeptical of your anonymous sources, this is what they do to themselves paid and they maybe think it works for clicks or a few eyeballs but it only degrades their credibility even more and does a disservice to at the president is attempting to do which is rally the nation. Harris gillian harris, whs the thing you had taught, to sometimes when there is a breaking moment like the one we saw with the president coming out of walter reed in the vehicle, its important for journalists to stop and pause and think before they sort of jump on anyone to bandwagon with analysis. First its important to look at the fact on the ground and do some investigation. Do you think the way journalists handle that moment was appropriate or was there some Due Diligence that needed to be done before everybody decided it was terrible . Harris i think there are some good questions that one could ask, you dont have to hyperventilate or come out with a precooked narrative in order to do that and im not pointing exact fingers to who did that but we know there was some of it there because there seems to be a little bit of a drumbeat at times. Heres a question i would ask. We can start with the secret Service Person who i believe is on the left passenger front side in front of that partition, someone who likely according to what weve been saying for this conversation and published reports wouldve had some contact and exposure already, tell me about the driver, is the driver in that circle of exposure . These are just questions because on this particular day that secret Service Agent has not tested positive, if he has been around someone, that is in that quarantine for a 1014 day circle, he clearly isnt doing that if the driver is part of that circle, too. I would also know that the two president tweeted 18 times before 8 00 this morning so there are a lot of ways to get his message out, weve seen it. On behalf of all the people who would like to take a jaunt and waved to their family members from a hospital room, it does strike an interesting political tone, a message to send so i would want to ask what type of may be consideration for those people who wouldnt have access to that type of treatment and that type of perk, what you might want to tell those americans. Because its been a long journey for a lot of people across the country. Dont need a narrative to ask those questions, you have to listen to the answers and im all ears, all the time. Gillian i havent thought of that, its a really great point. Coming up next, democrats want to delay confirmation hearings for judge Amy Coney Barrett after two senators on the Judiciary Committee test positive for covid19. While their opposition matter with republicans on the committee already saying they are not slowing down . We are going to have a hearing for amy barrett, it will be done safely but ive got a job to do and that is pressing on. Kennedy welcome back, two republicans on the senate Judiciary Committee have tested positive for covid19, just a week away from the planned start of judge Amy Coney Barretts Supreme Court confirmation hearing. Those who already oppose the nominee before the election are already calling for those hearings to be delayed. Its not safe for the senate to meet in session, its not safe for the hearings to go forward. We believe you should have an inperson hearing, this is for the highest court of the land. Do you want to be able to go back and forth with this nomin nominee. Kennedy the senate Judiciary Committee have conducted or more than 20 hearings this year that ive been entirely or partially virtual. Do you think they should put off these hearings until they can be held with every member their present and accounted for in person . Harris i dont think anybody should put off anything if some of it can go virtual. Weve known that since the beginning of this pandemic, it came as an excuse for why we didnt have a coronavirus bill in the first place. I never want to give anybody on capitol hill a pass for doing their job, whatever that job entails, we want them to do it. By the way, we now know this, at first she said, testing on capitol hill would make them look like they were more privileged than the American People. There is a real privilege to get your arms around the things on capitol hill, and just go do your job. The president for a four years, Ruth Bader Ginsburg told us that in march 2016 when the decision was on the other side of the political aisle. They can go forward with this and if there are Covid Concerns i implore them, do your jobs and come up with some ways to work around them. Kennedy so, dr. Saphier, how hard would it be to get some of those Rapid Testing kits to members of congress . I know weve got them at fox for those of us who are going in person and interacting in the studio so they are doing business, they are in charge of very important decisions that affect millions of lives, is it possible for them to be tested . Kennedy, let me tell you first of all, we have just seen witnessed this week firsthand that the testing is not necessarily the answer especially those rapid tests. Those rapid lateral tests are great and easy to do and you can have the results within five and 15 minutes, they are really only approved for people who have symptoms, meaning they are great, they can find 97 of the virus in people who are symptomatic. They are not as great in people who are presymptomatic meaning they could be contagious or even asymptomatic, somewhere along 50 sensitivity is not a good screening test. So i really implore people to go virtual, we dont actually need these rapid tests, doctors are seeing patients virtually, i dont understand why you cant listen to testimony and vote virtually. Kennedy all right, pete, quickly, if the shoe were on the other foot and democrats were using dealing with a pandemic in a compressed timeline would they go forward with the nominee before election day . Pete of course, Everybody Knows that. What Amy Klobuchar said is a sham, joe biden is running for the highest position in the land and doing a virtually from his basement on zoom. If he can do that we can have a confirmation hearing with which of course Mitch Mcconnell should do because elections have consequences and republicans have to vote. If it was the other way around would be having hearings. Kennedy all right, gillian, dont worry, you are up next and youre fantastic. Joe biden raising eyebrows after saying he told democratic governors not to endorse them. Youve got to do with the late latest, an update for walter reed medical center. Stay right here. Veterans wit r spouses of i probably shouldnt say this but you know me, governors who dont endorse me who want to endorse me because youll pay a penalty, you wont get what you need from the federal government, not a joke, my word. Not a joke. Harris joe biden admitting he warned some governors the Trump Administration could make them pay a price if they publicly and did not publicly endorse his white house bid. President trump has criticized some blue state leaders of their handling of the coronavirus, there is no evidence that he threatens to withhold based on endorsing joe biden. Gillian turner, i come to you first . Who endorses who in a political race is far less important than who stays healthy, who lives and who dies. I will say, though, that speaking to sources on the Biden Campaign over the weekend this is a direct reaction to previous reporting that some of my colleagues here at fox news have confirmed that political advisors to President Trump during the early days of the outbreak wanted to withhold some preventative measures like tests and masks nationwide sending them out because they felt that less people were getting hit hard by this virus in red states and werent going to get credit for helping blue states. Im not saying i believe that but folks here have reported that. Harris kennedy . Kennedy the federal government is too big and too powerful, we need more application of treatments and protection at the state level. Joe biden is basically saying hes not confident hes going to win back the election because if you endorse him, if i lose, President Trump is going to win reelection and punish some of these governors. I say be confident, take the endorsement and no one cares about endorsements at all, not one person. Harris since there is a medical mixed up in all of this, dr. Saphier, i want to get your take on all of it. Dr. Saphier i can tell you, harass, that people have definitely been playing politics when it comes to the science of covid19 but i have yet to hear of anyone withholding aid including testing or ppe based on political association, thats taking it a step too far. I think theres always going to be rumors and speculation but that being said i think a lot of the blue states that have been criticized for their handling of early on covid from their own failed policies regarding nursing home care, Hospital Systems already being overrun because of closures, medicaid expansion, i have a hard time believing that that was the antithesis behind it. The democratic governor that failed early on did it on their own actions. Harris if i offered you 20 seconds would you take it . Pete sure, i would. This is joe biden, yoi probably shouldnt say this but you know me, uncle joe, come on. Nobody buys it. The president , the conversation with phil murphy, gavin newsom, all praised him for working these states, endorsements come for very Different Reasons and i second this young lady from, where are you, kennedy, california, in saying these endorsements dont matter paid kennedy im in a van pete down by the river. Harris they pulled a news van up to her house, true story. Saving peoples lives, dr. Saphier, you just put us all on the ground without one.
