Attorney general bill barr telling foxs Maria Bartiromo the talk, clock is ticking for seattle authorities to end the chaos. I dont want to get into specifics, but we are obviously keeping an eye on it. As the president said, in due course we may have to do something about it, but we cant let it go on indefinitely. Melissa this is outnumbered and im Melissa Francis. Here today is fox business anchor dagen mcdowell, host of kennedy on the fox business network, kennedy, syndicated radio host and fox news contributor, leslie marshall, and joining us today, Washington Times opinion editor and fox news contributor, charlie hurt. Ill start with you, because whats going on right now is undeniable. I have to say, for my own part, yesterday i ran into my neighbor on the street from my same block who was held up at gunpoint recently as a result of everything that is going on. Its terrifying, and we are seeing it in so many cities across the country. Whats going on . Charlie well, it is a brutal reminder that, while politicians tend to want to jump on the bandwagon and make political statement about these things, the cops, it turns out, are very important. They have a hard job to do, and obviously you have police who make mistakes. You even have bad cops out there. But that doesnt take away from the fact that the majority of cops are hardworking, honest, good, decent people who maintain the order, and without cops you have real problems. The sad thing about it is, as we are seeing in all of this footage across the country, the people that are hurt the most by this idea that we can do away with the cops and not have cops are people who are you have some of the lease opportunities in this country. Who have had the least access to education, and other means of protecting themselves. Its a real problem, and its disturbing to watch politicians try to make political hay out of this. Because we are talking about life and death, here. Melissa speaking of life and death, exactly. Kennedy, you look inside this zone in seattle, you have violence breaking out, and someone dying, and they prevent the police from coming in. You hear about people just being thrown into a car and dropped off at a hospital. This is where a breakdown in the rule of law looks like. Even if you read some of the reports from undercover reporters inside there, talking about the violence, people Walking Around brandishing weapons, what are your thoughts on where this goes . Kennedy people are going to say one thing, they are going to vote another way. This is what happens when you give in to emotional extremes, instead of having a conversation about how best to reform some of these Police Departments so they can police the Community Better so everyone feels safer and, again, enjoys more of their liberties. You cant do that when you are in an autonomous zone where people are dying. The mayor wants to be cool, and she has said this is the summer of love, so if youre going to have an autonomous zone, if youre going to have a c. H. O. P. Shop, you should well have some doctors there who can attend to the people who are victims of violence. The pendulum is going to swing the other way. Thats a very unfortunate for people who want rational reform. Whats going to happen is crime is going to rise, because there is a perception that you can do whatever you want to get away with it. The reaction to that will be more cops without refining the system to have better cops. Melissa leslie, i want to pick up on that point kennedy made about people who say one thing and vote another. We have certainly learned that in the last president ial election. There were people, clearly, who voted for President Trump who didnt admit it to their friends or didnt say it when they were pulled. I wouldnt be surprised if the same thing is going on right now, when people call on the phone and do the polling and say, who are you going to vote for . They look at pictures like this, they think about voting for President Trump, but they tell the pollsters the opposite. Do you think thats happening . Leslie no, i dont think its going to be a repeat of 2016, for a few reasons. Melissa, look, people in seattle, in that area especially, say its an entirely different scenario between day and night. When you add to that alcohol, when you add to that not just in seattle, but across the country more than additional gunners on the street, and violent offenders have been released from prison, that the powder keg. Thats a recipe for disaster. People who are in or near areas like we see in the c. H. O. P. District in seattle that might vote differently than they say, i dont think thats going to be the situation across the board, especially because polls also strongly show that americans are in favor of reformation of Police Departments, in favor of what happened with the protest, and i think so many people saw for themselves what happened with mr. Floyd and feel theres a systemic problem in this country that needs to be addressed, and what weve done in the past has not done that, so we need Something Different. Perhaps someone different in the future. Melissa its fine during the day, and the minute that the night comes, all of a sudden its incredibly unsafe for everyone. It wasnt like this before, but if you look at the level of violence weve seen in chicago, new york, and all of these places just over this past weekend, i dont know that people dont look at whats happening now and think, yeah, i want someone whos going to tighten things up and make things feel safe. We need to reform the police, but what im seeing now, this violence, is not reforming the police pay what are your thoughts . Bt i get to come to work in the middle of the night every day, and im frightened, personally. This is not something that happened in a week or a few weeks or even overnight. What you are seeing play out across the country in these large cities, it is a liberal law enforcement. It is treating crimes as if they are victimless crimes. There is always a victim. As if criminals are criminals. You are seeing play out what happens when cops are told to step back and stand down. Police departments are not supported in word or deed by the leftwing politicians and officials who are elected to positions of power. I dont know what happens, but i know in new york city it wasnt just the bail reform. He was the liberal treatment of criminals leading up to the bail reform. There was no cash bail in San Francisco now, bail reform went into effect earlier this year. There is no cash bail for aggravated assault of a child under 11. Aggravated assault of a child as a hate crime. It is like 90 of arrests, roughly. People get out on bail immediately. I dont know what happens, but i think people look at whats going on and they see a coming of traction. If these liberal leaders allow this to happen, what could happen with them, and it might not set Police Reform, but it is sure going to stop defending Police Departments. Melissa dagen, youre right. Meanwhile, minnesota failing to pass a Police Reform bill after weeks of negotiations in its split state legislature. Democratic Governor Tim Walz frustrated. The people of minnesota should certainly be deeply disappointed. This is a failure to move things. Its a failure to engage. This is an embarrassment for minnesota. Melissa charlie, what are your thoughts . A charlie well, this is exactly the problem right here. If you went and pulled americans about, do they think would happen to george floyd was a travesty and shouldnt happen again, you would get like a 100 agreement that it was a terrible thing. And changes need to be made, and we can make those changes. But when you jump from that into this anarchy, and the mob rule where people are tearing down statues, breaking into storefronts, earning cop cars, things like that, you suddenly lose half of your support by doing that. That is what is so terrible about the present situation. You see it among politicians, as well. Do politicians want to actually reform things and make that we ever see in politics. Its everything that is wrong with politics today. One other point, what you just said, leslie, im in agreement with you about what he said, most of what you said. The problem is the idea that the problem that we have right now is gun owners is ludicrous. The problem isnt gun owners, the problem, guns are not the problem. The problem is that you have criminals who get guns, and they dont get them in lawful ways. When you have criminals with guns, they shoot and kill people for no good reason. Thats the problem. Its not lawful gun owners. Melissa as i said, my neighbor was held up by gunpoint in new york city. As dagen has pointed out many times, its nearly impossible to get your hands on a gun, still, the way peter do that. What are your thoughts leslie i dont agree with charlie. I think there is a correlation here. You have more guns on the streets, legally obtained. We dont know, in seattle, for example, until people are arrested in new york city and other cities, who has those guns and how they obtain those guns. We talk about chicago, i lived in chicago four years. If you google the statistics of the numbers over this weekend, the highest numbers of shootings this past weekend in chicago, you have those same numbers in 2018. Not all of this has to do with covid, not all of it has to do with protests or the murder of mr. Floyd. Kennedy had talked about people sitting down and talking, and i agree. The problem is, in minneapolis and minnesota specifically, they werent able to do that. To charlies point, both sides want to be up for reelection, but the protesters are expecting Something Different Going Forward than what they did in minnesota is showing no change at all. Melissa hang on, ironically, you guys all made the same point, which is that the situation we are looking at in the cities didnt happen overnight. It isnt the result of these protests, its because these large cities have been managed by liberal infrastructure for so long. Whether its the mayors those in charge, that weve gotten to this point that we are not policing. Its how the cities got so far out of control. Youre saying the same thing. Charlie and the real imprinting here dagen really quickly, 1,000 people have been indicted on gun possession charges in new york city where the cases are open and they are Walking Around in the streets. That is the chief of crime control strategies telling the new york post, lawabiding citizens cant get their hands on a gun because the laws that violate our Second Amendment rights in new york city, but the criminals have them and they are Holding People up at gunpoint, to melissas point. Melissa i know you all have a lot more to say, and you will get your chance to do it on the other side of this break. Meanwhile, democrats hammering President Trump and attorney general barr over there firing of jeffrey berman, he is the powerful u. S. Attorney for the Southern District of new york. Was this the right move at the right time . I think President Trump actually hired mr. Berman and fired mr. Berman. Everybody works at the pleasure of the president. Drnear 50year lows. Liberty. Liberty. Liberty. Liberty. Late friday night, the president and attorney general barr carry out an ugly, hamhanded plot to try and oust the u. S. Attorney, Geoffrey Berman. I demand an investigation, because late friday, the late friday night dismissal reeked of potential corruption of the legal process. Melissa Chuck Schumer calling on the dojs Inspector General to probe attorney general barrs removal of the u. S. Attorney for the Southern District of new york after a dramatic standoff that began friday night. That is when barr announced u. S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman would step down. Hours later, berman said he would do no such thing. On saturday, barr said President Trump had fired berman, who then did step down even as the president denied being involved in firing hi him. The new york Southern District is currently investigating President Trumps personal lawyer, rudy giuliani, and has obtained indictments against two of giulianis associates. Senate judiciary chairman Lindsey Graham says he believes the president has the right to fire berman, but says he wont take up the president s nomination for a replacement unless new yorks two democratic senators, Chuck Schumer and kirsten gillibrand, sign off on it. All right, bring it out to the couch. Kennedy, let me start with you. There are couple things about this at a very puzzling. First of all, we havent heard any of the reasons for the firing yet. We also heard from judge nap in the past hour, saying that berman left voluntarily, although obviously after a standoff and a struggle, but he could have fought it in court. He could have fought it a bunch of different ways, and didnt do that. What do you think of that . Kennedy i think that, if this were president obama, and the Southern District of illinois i dont know there is such a thing, but lets just pretend were investigating his personal attorney, people would have lost their minds if that u. S. Attorney was removed. Geoffrey berman has prosecuted Jeffrey Epstein and michael avenatti, along with michael cohen, and they were in the middle of an investigation of his personal attorney, rudy giuliani. I would like to hear some reasons. I always think friday night dismissals are suspect, regardless of who carries them out, and i just think the president has to be a little more careful about who he appoints and who he nominates, and who he hires, because from Jeff Sessions to john bolton and now Geoffrey Berman, he has basically taken issue with his own instincts, which have failed him on several occasions. Melissa so, leslie, berman was temporary, was my understanding. And then he was in for a while. Im not a lawyer, so im butchering the right way to say this, but he was then voted to stay in his position at this point. But now hes being replaced by someone, at least temporarily, who by all accounts is just as dogged and just as focused on all the same cases. What are your thoughts . Leslie that is exactly why the attorney general wanted his guy, jay clayton, to be in. Somebody who has no experience as a prosecutor, and somebody who is loyal to him. I think with the attorney general is doing is what many democrats, quite frankly, have accused him of, which is having trumpian tendencies. I say that with regard to, if you are loyal to me, youre on my team. I want you on my team. The president has said, i have nothing to do with this. So, was he fired . To your point, melissa, and to kennedys point, what was the reason for this . Anybody else, certainly mr. Berman needs to know that, as well as those in congress and as well as the american people. This smells. To kennedys point, if this had been during the obama administration, just the words out of my mouth. Absolutely, they would be outraged. This is a problem. Is the attorney general looking for the best person, man or woman, as domain for the job as we have seen the president to . Melissa charlie, the attorney general is a lot more measured, it seems like, and thoughtful in his actions that maybe the president too tense to be a little more impulsive. And the fact that we dont know why this person was fired yet kind of makes me feel like we are being told to beg that question. And the answer may not be what everyone thinks its going to be. In other words, i dont know, is there a chance democrats are getting trapped on this . And we find out why he was fired, it may not be something that makes the president look bad. It could be the other way around. I dont know, its just a thought and a question. What do you think . Charlie of course, all these attacks are coming from the same people who attacked President Trump over colluding with russia and colluding with ukraine, all of this nonsense we spent three years going through, that amounted to, in the end, absolutely nothing. So, i take it all was kind of a grain of salt. Also, Chuck Schumer attacking the Southern District of new york attorneys, the people are still there fighting all of these cases and clearly saying that, without berman, they are going to raise the white flag and stop prosecuting, stop pursuing crimes in the Southern District of new york, its insane. Its absolutely insane. Of course, they all started the night this happened, they started out by talking about how william barr was a liar, and it turns out he didnt lie at all. Berman just wanted to make a political case out of all of this. I agree, there are questions to be asked, and i want to see them answered, but the idea that this is somehow evidence of corruption or collusion or whatever is just a little bit too much. Melissa we all know everybody can write a book when theyre done, anyways. Its all going to come out. [laughter] joe bidens campaign defending the Presumptive Democratic nominee amid criticism he has not held a News Conference in nearly three months. What they are saying is the Trump Campaign cranks up the heat. Well be right back. What you have donald trump saying its time to open up america, we can do that in the safe and healthy way, i do have joe biden saying, we need to lock this country down. Im going to stay in my basement, im not going to take questions from reporters, which he hasnt done an 81 days. And once you refinance, the savings are automatic. Thanks to your va streamline refi benefit, at newday theres no income verification, no appraisal, and no out of pocket costs. Activate your va streamline benefit now. Kennedy biden Senior Campaign advisor, simone sanders, facing tough questions from our very own Chris Wallace on why the Presumptive Democratic nominee has not held a formal News Conference in nearly three months. Here is what she had to say about that on fox news sunday. Watch. Just because we are campaigning virtually does not mean we are not meeting our actual voters across the country. Vice President Biden has campaigned in michigan and florida, dr. Biden has campaigned in colorado and texas. The reality is, what we have been doing is following cdc guidelines. We take pride in prioritizing local media. The Vice President is doing local media interviews, hes doing National Media interviews, and he is taking questions from reporters. Kennedy the former Vice President has held some Virtual Events amid the coronavirus pandemic but has not fielded questions from the National Press court, either in person or online, and that was extremely problematic for Hillary Clinton in 2016. And its the perception she has something to hide. Dagen, what do you think about this . Is it smart for joe biden to stay away from the National Press court so it he does know to take tough questions . Dagen he cant do it forever. But i like the bumper sticker, winning by cocooning. [laughter] the Vice President is setting such a good example of wellness and health safety, as the pandemic wanes. He wins those over the age of 65 by ten percentage points, but he cant keep this up forever. Again, he needs to be by example because those of us need to go to work just for the family and put food on the table by working, and that means going outside of the house. Kennedy leslie, what can the Vice President do to bolster his image with voters who there are very many of them, its her and doesnt seem like it, but voters who may be on the fence. His staying away from reporters the best strategy, and is this we would revise the Vice President continued to do . Leslie if i were to advise him, kennedy, you look at whats happening and its working. He is tied with the president in arkansas, there are rumors that georgia will flip blue, National Polls here at fox and other places show and between 1014 ahead. I know everybody will say 2016 taught us Something Different in regards with polls. Joe bidens leading by example, but i mentioned last week he has left his basement. He met with George Floyds family, he was kneeling and talking with protesters, but he is taking questions from reporters. As simone said, not just from local media, but from a national, as well. I dont think he is intentionally trying to avoid the press. I think he is trying to do with the cdc is saying to do. But right now, what he is doing is working for him. Kennedy was a big problem for hillary. Charlie, what about that . All right, i understand. Leslie these are very different candidates. Kennedy has come a very, very different. He should have run in 2016 when he was the better candidate then. Charlie, let me ask you. You cant keep the guy away from voters and reporters forever. He has to talk to the National Press court. He has to debate. But do you think his campaign will keep him shielded from doing both of those critical things . Charlie actually, i agree with you, leslie, it is a smart strategy right now and it is working. He can stay in his basement and he is going to probably do the best he will do during the entire campaign with that strategy. The problem is it wont work for the longterm. Eventually he does have to come out of his bunker, he does have to stand up to tromp and go toetotoe. As we saw with the rally on saturday night, this line from President Trump, pointing to the mayhem in the country and calling that joe bidens america, and saying that joe biden has been part of the problem for 47 years, that is devastating. I think obviously, we are going to have debates. When we see those debates and they go toetotoe, i think you are going to see a much different lay of the land in terms of poles and things like that, because the reason the Biden Campaign wants to keep him out of the public eye is because he does say stupid things. He isnt the best on his feet right now. How he answers those questions from trump, i think it could be devastating. Kennedy yeah, i think he has a hard time free sailing. Very quickly, melissa, will his campaign try and wriggle out of the debates . Melissa i dont know, i wouldnt be surprised if they did. I think will be really interesting are the sidebyside conventions. You will have one that is really raucous and another thats really quiet and social distanced. I honestly dont know what impact that has on voters, but the contrast is going to be fascinating, to say the least. Kennedy all right, dont withhold the entertainment, those of us who consume politics, please. A rough time for the rough rider, why a major museum is moving an iconic statue of Teddy Roosevelt amid the National Debate over policing and grace. Com dagen the iconic statue of president Teddy Roosevelt at the entrance to the museum of Natural History in new york city will be removed at the museums request, amid nationwide protest over racial inequality and police brutality. Mayor bill de blasio says this is the right decision at the right time, but President Trump is calling the removal ridiculous. Meantime, Monmouth University will remove Woodrow Wilsons name from the universitys main building, citing the president s racist policies. And San Francisco toppling statues of former president ulysses s. Grant, who led the union army in the civil war, and Francis Scott key, who composed the starspangled banner. Both owned, though grant freed his one before the civil war. Kennedy, what do you make of this . Kennedy you cant have grant. You may not have ulysses s. Grant. [laughter] these people are incredibly shortsighted and they dont have an understanding of history. Not only what he did as the Union General against all odds, and lincoln wanted him to eat lead the army because he said he fights. I dont necessarily agree with all facets of the civil war, but general grant was a hero, and when he was president he had to fight so hard against some of Andrew Johnsons overtly racist policies, where johnson was trying to return the south to prewar status by enabling some of these plantation owners to continue to subjugate free people who are then enslaved under various systems, and grant had to fight against that in his two terms. He worked and was friends with frederick douglass. You may not have him. Dagen charlie, lets talk about last week, when a crowd set fire to a statue of George Washington in portland, oregon. I will point out that the Teddy Roosevelt statue is a little different, because its not a crowd tearing it down. It is a decision backed by the family, backed by Theodore Roosevelt the fourth. Hes a descendant of him, and a museum trustee, who said the composition of the equestrian statue which depicts Teddy Roosevelt, an african man on one side, and then a native american man on the other, it doesnt reflect roosevelts legacy. Its time to remove the statue and move forward. A Family Member said that. Charlie and thats most important point, dagen. As you said, we have been arguing about statues in the south for our entire lives. Its a very complex debate. I hate to see these statues of even grant im not a grant guy, but i hate to see these statues come down, because they represent a magnificent art, they represent our history, and at a time when we need to find more things that unify all of us, the idea that we are going to tear down those things that unify lots of people seems to be going in the wrong direction. But what you say is exactly right. I dont think its right to take down the Teddy Roosevelt statue across from central park, but if youre going to do it, do it the right way. I can live with that. Anybody can live with that. If you do it the right way. But when you have mob justice and you have people, vigilantes, or theyre not even vigilantes, tearing down statues and defacing them, the arthur ashe statue enrichment has been defaced with spray paint. Of course, they are doing nothing that these other people arent doing. The idea that you can just log into a museum and throw paint on a bill clinton or a barack obama painting because you dont like that person, its insane. It is lawlessness. It is a total breakdown of society. Again, if you want to do this lawfully and go through the dash we may not like it, but we can live with it. Thats the whole point of having laws. Dagen melissa . Melissa i looked out that statue in front of the museum of Natural History many times, andt past. I dont think you take it away specifically for that reason. It reminds me of having toured dachau. You never want to forget our mistakes of the past. It reminds people of where we come from and what we have to guard against. I dont blame them for wanting to take it down. It is an uncomfortable statute, but i think thats why its important that maybe it stays there. Dagen we have discussed this, but these statues and other symbols of our past in the museums, and study them. There is a difference between a place of honor and a place of learning. And remembering our history. So that we dont repeat it. Progressives, meantime, are calling for a congresswoman, alexandria ocasiocortez, to run percentage. And President Trump says he is all for it. What do you think about this . She is facing the primary challenge tomorrow that has been more of a fight than i think she thought it was going to be. We dont know how its going to turn out tomorrow, but she certainly has had so much money and a massive staff at her disposal but if its even close, but tells you something. An incredible amount of Media Attention whether it is tv or social media. But listen to President Trump at the rally on saturday night, trying to craft this narrative but if you vote for joe biden, you are really voting for the radical left. So thats why you would hear Something Like that from President Trump. This is a woman who wants to get rid of gas powered cars essentially, drive those amazon jobs out and then give a lift to lawlessness. So that is what he is up to you, trying to say youre not voting for joe biden, you are voting for super leftwing liberals who are creating unrest across the country. It does seem like she is not going away one way or the other. No, shes not. And i do hope she splits the party, the two party system is really whats wrong with this country, and i hope she leaves the Democrat Party and i hope to create something new and i do hope she beats Chuck Schumer. They are absolutely right, the institutionalism in National Politics is an abomination and that does a great disservice not only to individual states but to the country as a whole. We hope we are on the road to a multiparty system because the one we have right now sucks. While. I dont know how to top that, so i will leave it there. We will get you on the other side. Awaiting the White House Press briefing minutes from now as we expect a new reaction to growing violence in u. S. Cities and the controversial firings of the u. S. Attorney Southern District of new york, we will bring you that live just as soon as it happens. Plus, fireworks on capitol hill over President Trumps fourth of july plans. Why some lawmakers are urging him to reconsider. The white house announcing President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will host a salute to america on july 4th at the white house with music, military demonstrations, and a fireworks, this despite pushback from ten democratic lawmakers in maryland, virginia, and washington, d. C. , who wrote a letter to Administration Officials last month given the current covid19 crisis, such an event would needlessly risk the health and safety of thousands of americans. Further, this event would come at the cost of millions of taxpayer dollars while we are facing an unprecedented economic downturn due to the pandemic. This is a trap to get trump to not celebrate the fourth of july so they can accuse him of being unamerican. Thats right. Going along with what kennedy just said, everything is partisan to these people. Everything is partisan to these people. They dont care about the health and safety of the people attending the rally, they just dont want him to hold a rally. They cared about the health and safety of those people, they would be far more concerned about whats going on in the riots in the crimes that are occurring in cities across america today. But they are not, they just want to rain on his parade and i have to say a president that is trying to get reelected on a message of optimism, proamerican optimism, that always beats the pessimism that we are seeing from this kind of stunned. This party, this celebration is going to be on the south lawn of the white house and then before you get to constitution avenue, so it is not going to be on mall, it is not this grand celebration. A couple of things. Actually, to charlies point, do you care more about being reelected or do you care more about the country . You have in the district of columbia stayathome orders still in place also in virginia and not maryland. You have thousands of people that have died from this, we have over 1 Million People that now have covid, we have these protests, we do have looting and violence and thats what the president should do. For these things to be addressed in order for us to be greater, dont waste taxpayers dollars to give up perception that everything is fine when it isnt. Do we need to hear about that from the democratic lawmakers to protesters that Everyone Needs to stayathome, legal fireworks going off and how about some legal ones . Bring back the legal fireworks, and you cannot talk about costcutting, democrat or as a republican, that is laughable. These multitrillion dollar stimulus package will never be repaid and stop taking away the fireworks. They can wear masks, and you can enjoy the 244th birthday of the united states. Hallelujah. Go kennedy. Thank you, everybody. Thanks to everybody for joining us. Right now, Melissa Francis is up in for harris. A White House Briefing to briefing set to begin any moment now.
