It makes the country look very bad and puts the country in a very bad position. The sooner it is worked out, the better it is for the country. Virtually every dem has said there is no collusion. Even if there was, its not a crime but there is no collusion. All right, so the president being very forceful here. Did he help himself with this New York Times interview . I dont know if he helped himself with the times. It is amazing when you consider how hostile Media Outlets like the times are that he gives them half an hour, no staff around. They enjoy tremendous access to this president. As far as the collusion matter, i think its reasonable that a year and a half after the government started looking at this, he is saying where is the evidence . There is none, lets move on. If it turns out that this really was just a Democratic Opposition Research effort that morphed into a government investigation, i think it has been bad for the country to put us through all of this. The times published the whole transcript. Parts you couldnt hear and parts that were off the record. So if the president is making comments that he says in the middle of it are off the record he knows exactly what he is doing. Did he make a good case here . Well, i dont think he made a good case substantively. He thinks he is his best spokesperson. As a native new yorker, even though he hates the New York Times on his twitter feed he still, i think, needs validation from it. Its the paper he grew up with. In terms of the investigation, the investigation and press articles have already uncovered new information and continued to push forward and if President Trump the president says there is no collusion. Based on what youve read in the article that youre referring to. He should let it play out. What he said he was doing. He should stop having his surrogates and teaming after mueller and the investigation if he really is innocent. Let it play out. It will. Bob mueller is moving ahead and well see where it goes. When he says democrats say there is no collusion im not sure what senator feinstein she didnt say we have no evidence. She has been asked multiple times on the record in Television Interviews if there is any collusion that her judiciary committee, she is the minority leader on, has found any kind of collusion. Let me finish my point. They have an investigation in the senate, the house, those will be reconciled with the facts the Mueller Investigation finds. What the democrats said and that is correct. Dianne feinstein is on the record saying that. Adam schiff hasnt been able to say it. The evidence we do have so far about the indictments that have come down have nothing to do with changing votes, collusion with the russians. It has to do with personal business dealings, lying to the f. B. I. And issues of business dealings with the russians, not clarified the timeline and relationship he had with Paul Manafort almost distancing himself with manafort who seems to be the most problematic of the things weve heard and seen coming out of the investigation. What was unearthed about manafort were prior to him working for President Trump. President trump has every right to be angry. He was told three times by james comey he wasnt under investigation and james comey took the extraordinary step of testifying under oath that the trump team was being looked at. Why did he take that step . I think james is absolutely right. Were here a year and a half later without any concrete evidence of collusion and the most concrete evidence of collusion we have is a dossier paid for by Hillary Clinton and when dnc that james comey had testified under oath that James Clapper wanted to go to President Trump, brief him. That was then leaked by cnn. This dossier has helped shape the entire National Narrative and many people are concerned that it was used to obtain a fisa warrant. It has also been a key part of this investigation and spearheading the investigation as well. It is a democrat propaganda piece. Had this been to the president s point bad for the country and the distraction from some of these much larger issues that perhaps we should be having National Discussion about . It does undermine the faith in the leadership of the country. If there is a constant effort to say the government is being run by a traitor. If it turns out there is some evidence i guess people will say all of this is worth it. But we talked about adam schiff, Ranking Member on the House Intelligence Committee, who is really the leader of the collusion narrative and were fortunate to be able to have him lay out his case in the wall street journal recently. I think what youll see there is a lot of characterization of events but not a lot of facts, dates, times, specifics on okay, what is the collusion case . What is the definition of collusion . Thats something that has not been defined. Does it mean the russians working with the Trump Campaign to switch votes at the ballot box . Does it mean having conversations during a transition period between National Security officials working for the Transition Team and the Russian Ambassador which every administration coming into the oval office did . The definition of collusion. How is it different than anything that could be defined . No one has one working definition and i think the president is right and that definition as it is accepted by both sides is not criminal. The two things i would say. First of all, that multiple Senior Trump Administration officials who worked for him during the campaign and since he has been in office have repeatedly lied about contacts with the russians. Even if they arent guilty this isnt about huma, but about President Trump. Hillary clinton was honest . Even if theyre innocent of everything they act guilty. Lets get some answers. It is not a distraction for the country to figure out how the russians did and how they did it. Flynn is actually so far the most problematic. I was interested that President Trump didnt talk about flynn. He focused on manafort. Flynns conversations with the russians are the most problematic so far. Katie says theyre normal for any administrations but he said to the russians dont worry about the sanctions we put in place because of the election. Lets address the flynn problem and not say obama always. You are maximizing when you consider the enemys behavior while minimizing your allies. It is two separate things. They arent separate. Lets go back to what the president said to also telling the New York Times he believes special Counsel Robert Mueller will treat him fairly and says he doesnt know whether will be done with the investigation, when he will be done. Adding it doesnt bother him and it is galvanizing his base saying if you look at whats going on, and in fact what it has done, its really angered the base and made the base stronger. My base is stronger than its ever been. Great congressmen in particular. Some of them have been unbelievable in pointing out what a witch hunt the whole thing is. I think it has been proven that there is no collusion. Kennedy, on that point he is relying on his surrogates in that statement to kind of defend him even though we have seen him on twitter and in other interviews call this a witch hunt. Yes, he has. It was he and steve bannon came up with the phrase and it is something theyve employed. It is what everyone does in politics. Essentially marketing and branding your ideas and theyve been effective in that regard. You know, we have to be able to trust that the president is not a traitor. We have to trust that institutions like the f. B. I. Are going to shepherd and Police Things as the ultimate Law Enforcement agency in this country fairly. And i think there has been a credibility and trust issue. I hope we see that restored. I absolutely do. And if that means getting to the end of this investigation and finding that nothing substantial has come of it, then we have to really wonder whether or not we need to appoint special counsel so easily. What if something does come out of it . Thats important. If the president has done something wrong he has to be held accountable. Thats a big if that hasnt been answered. What about the public trust in the institution. Robert mueller has had credibility problems in three weeks not because of his actions but the people working on his investigation. How do they gain back the public trust despite the outcome . As controversial as its been firing james comey from the f. B. I. Was a good start. This is really when the f. B. I. Went off the rails. You look at the Campaign Last year, the investigation into Hillary Clintons emails. Forgetting what you think or what the outcome should have been, comey did everything against f. B. I. Procedure. He basically appointed himself prosecutor. Made the decision for himself that the attorney general of the u. S. Loretta lynch needed to be recused. He took on the role of the prosecutor and opined in public the merits of Hillary Clinton. You might think she is terrible or great. That is not what prosecutors do. He is not a prosecutor. The f. B. I. Is supposed to investigate, bring the information to the Justice Department and then they may prosecutorial decisions. Whether its good politically for the president with his base but also going into an election year. Has it given them a pinata to blame for all the problems theyre having on the issue . A year and a half in, no evidence of collusion and we have to come to terms and realize the fact it could be a sham. There could be nothing there. Thats what im getting to. If there was none, there is going to be so much distrust with the media at that point and so much distrust of the left at that point. This is something i think is really important. The left wants to tar all the people who have either been indicted or are part of the campaign or the administration as evil. And somehow doing something so bad as to work with a Foreign Government to somehow undermine an election in this country. Thats an awful thing. I think what is more apparent is you have some people who were either selfserving or incompetent. There are benefits welcome to washington, d. C. Not necessarily. Its someone not being a part of d. We have a galvanized left base with the resistance movement. Does it help President Trump or hurts him in terms of going into the elections of next year . Im not sure how much of an impact it will have in the midterm. The races arent national races. Theyre district by district and democrats have found a good job finding candidates that fit the districts. In the senate the state focus. 2020 is a bigger question. It will be a referendum on President Trump. What has been interesting is even if the economy has done well his approval numbers have been pretty role. Part of that is the russia cloud and other things that he has done. A large part. Also things youve done when he looks at the polling and what people say. If the point appointees are siding with the congress has a right to conduct oversight and excuses why the Justice Department has to continue to stone wall are ludicrous. Nunes reasonably his patience is at an end and i think he is going to have to start enforcing these subpoenas. I guess purge maybe thats a bad word but lock em up. But if a member of the Justice Department will not follow the law and will not comply with a lawfully generated subpoena, thats a problem. That would be a big escalation. Kennedy, having worked in a bureaucracies, there are bureaucratic hurdles you have to go through. Some things take too long. This seems like a big escalation that nunes who had to recuse himself at one point from some of these issues, what would it look like in 2018 if devin nunes . You have to be cautious. These things are a political stunt and sometimes it gets difficult to try to figure out when someone is trying to make a name for themselves and have greater political aspirations and using it as a foot stool to reach to a higher shelf in the political kitchen for if it is really necessary for oversight. There are things that there are some deep questions here that require answers. And were just not getting them. And it is unfortunate that every time a congressional or internal investigation is stifled, we have to fumble toward special counsel. If there is some reason and if the department of justice cant release documents because of the internal investigation that is going on right now they need to say that. The American People can handle it. If there is some there is some protocol. If there are hurdles talk about that so it doesnt seem like you are stonewalling and protecting yourself, because all that does is reinforce the narrative there is a deep state. There is bureaucratic obstacles in place but not the first time an agency has stonewalled or not wanted to release information because they are worried about what would surface and how it would impact the agency. That should be a concern which is why as kennedy mentioned oversight is so important. Congress is an oversight body.
