Where irma first came ashore in the keys and you see the massive damage. The president starts here and talking with officials on the ground, he said moments ago, i just wanted to talk with my people from fema. I wanted to look them in the eye and now hes doing that and seeing with those americans are dealing with. Sandra . Sandra fox news alert. Big developments coming out of a highstakes deal last night at the white house. President trump saying he and Democratic Leaders are fairly close to a deal on dreamers. The president insists that and has to come with massive Border Security. This is outnumbered, im sure to smith. Here today, harris faulkner, Fox News Contributor and republik and strategist, lisa boothe is here, former National Security are under president s bush and obama, Gillian Turner is here in todays oneluckyguy, he is a couch first timer. Brett velocovich, former special operations Intelligence Analyst and author of drone worrier and he is outnumbered and we are honored to have you here. Brett happy to be here. Harris so much of what we are seeing is being brought to us by drones. This is the upshot, if you will of what drones can do in terms of being our eyes in the storm. Brett youre right. Were already seeing some instant Damage Assessment from the devastation of harvey and irma and what youre seeing from the keys and what folks can do with them is incredible. Sandra lets begin, President Trump saying a deal is near to protect dreamers from deportation after breaking bread with Chuck Schumer and nancy pelosi last night when the president insists that no agreement was made, he agrees theyre getting close. Republican leaders Mitch Mcconnell and paul ryan are on the same page. Heres President Trump speaking to reporters before heading down to florida. I think were fairly close, but we have to get Border Security. 92 of the people agree on daca. We want and very, very powerful Border Security. Sandra kevin corke joins us live from the white house. I had to tell you, the white house will tell you this, the president wants action and maybe he has to reach across the aisle to get some thing done. If its in the interest of the American People, hes going to do that. The broader question is this is a possible deal on daca underlining his message on illegal immigration. The president himself is saying no. He took to twitter to talk about it. Let me share a bit of what he put on line. He said no deal was made last night on daca. Massive Border Security would have to be agreed to in exchange for consent, would be subject to vote. The wall which is already under construction in the form of new renovation will continue to be built. The president reiterating that as he landed in the Sunshine State this morning for a tour of the hurricane ravaged state. Mr. Trump refuting suggestions that a deal must include the while he promised. Ultimately we have to have the wall. If we dont have the wall, we are doing nothing. The wall is vital. If i dont get the ball, then we will become the obstructionists. We have to have an understanding that whether its in the budget, the will be funded otherwise were not doing anything. More controversy came out of last nights dinner and frankly, out of the statement they released. Let me share a line from that statement that you understand why so many conservatives were up in arms last night and this morning. We agreed to enshrine the protections of daca. And to work out a package of Border Security, excluding the wall, thats acceptable to both sides. The white house says that is not the case. They want to double down just a bit on the hot mike moment. Take a listen. Make us more productive too. The minority leader is saying if we can make a deal with the president , maybe it helps us, maybe it helps him. Is this real . Conservatives are howling about this and theyre suggesting that any deal on daca amounts to amnesty. Despite the fact that many of those recipients have been here for decades. We have to see how it works out, but its a hot day here in washington. Literally and figuratively. Sandra kevin corke, thank you. Brett is on the couch for the first time with us. The president invited the leaders of the Democratic Party over for dinner last night. Theres a lot to discuss. Its so complicated. Brett of course it needs to be collocated. The president needs to do what he does best which is negotiation. He literally wrote the book. What we see from Congress Action and he needs to move at the speed of war as the commanderinchief. He should be reaching across the aisle. If nothings getting done, what is he supposed to do . Needs go across the aisle, talk to them about these issues. And my opinion when it comes to daca, i think if im sitting here advising the president when it comes to this particular issue, i would use that negotiation tool for larger issues like Border Security, tax reform as well. Sandra maybe he is, we dont know. We are left with a lot of questions after that dinner. Lisa of course we saw President Trump take a step back on the wall issue and say one specific line in that statement for nancy pelosi and senator Chuck Schumer and i think the question is what does Border Security made to the Democratic Party . Weve seen Border Security from President Trump. Weve seen 15,000 new immigration agents, 5,000 Border Patrol agents, so what does Border Security mean . President trump who has made the wall the key issue who also endorsed the raise act, he doesnt get one of those things in his immigration package, i think its a failure and its not a deal. If the Democratic Party is serious about daca, they have to get something up. Thats the deal. When a copper mines is made, when both parties give up something to achieve a Common Objective and a common goal. What is the Democratic Party giving up or what will they give up . Harris as kevin corke just reported, conservatives this morning are up in arms about this potential compromise. Gillian conservatives are sort of losing their minds over this as they were last week when it came to the previous deal. Lisa which also wasnt a deal. Gillian i feel like for the American People, for people who are not in the governing class of washington, they look at the last two president s, they look at the past successes of congresses and they see and lock, they see inaction, but they see a lack of communication between the two sides and they think it, it almost doesnt matter whether a deal gets hammered out or not. As a starting point, we want to see leaders on both sides of the aisle and both branches of government communicating. Thats a really important first step in that direction. Brett by the way, negotiation and compromise does not mean youre losing. Its okay to lose in one particular issue and make up for it. Gillian conflict resolution 101, act on my stomach you agree on a starting point, you dont necessarily agree on any fine points, any specifics. You kick the can down the road. What you say is i dont want the details to get in the way of something bigger happening here. Harris i start with not who is right, but whats right . That means a lot of the people in the room dont get to speak because they like to cut each other off. I think the president might be starting something where if you wont, i will. Thats what hes doing a lot of right now. If it means reaching across the aisle, Chuck Schumer, you do get boxed in and feeling too far in one direction and you dont get anything done. You have a group of people on the hill that are gifted and doing nothing. For long periods of time. Hes trying to break that on issues like the debt ceiling and now daca and move forward. It doesnt mean that hes putting those make America Great again items on the table, but he is doing what they cannot seem to do and that is take action. Lisa is also an issue of math as well. The question is, a compromise involves both parties giving up something, so the question is what it is Democratic Party giving up . There is no deal now, but when we see legislation, the question is whatever both parties giving up . Its also a question of math. I President Trump just worked with the Democratic Party, he has to take up 24 republicans in the house, 12 senators in the senate, thats going to be a hard thing to do depending on what Border Security means to the Democratic Party. Thoughts the problem. Its also an issue of compromise, getting enough people on both sides so you can get to the right number to get some thing approved in the house and the senate. Sandra we go back to that statement that chuck and nancy put out after the dinner last night and they wanted to bring the protections of daca into law quickly. Gillian we need a drinking game. Its too early. Every time someone says check and nancy come out we have to do a shot. Sandra susan rice are partly admitting she unmasked senior Trump Officials names, but didnt leak them. Why she says she did it and what this could mean as a white house continues cracking down on those leaks. Plus the white house blasting fired fbi director james call me for a third day in a row come out whether he did something illegal when he shared information from his memos and if he could be investigated by the justice department. Be sure to talk to your doctor before you begin an aspirin regimen. Bayer aspirin. Harris we are learning new details no one what former National Security advisor susan rice told house investigators when she met with them privately last week. She reportedly told them she unmasked the identities of senior Trump Officials Michael Flynn, jared kushner, and steve bannon to better understand why the crown prince of United Arab Emirates was in new york last year to meet with them. The Obama Administration reportedly felt misled by the uae because it didnt mention the prince was traveling here as is customary. The committee was satisfied with her testimony that she did not leak the names. Meanwhile, national secured advice or a trimester is cracking down on the leaks. He needs to do that. But as wed obtained a memo she sent to all departments requesting they hold a training session. Ed says a review of the nondisclosure agreement reminds us of the response abilities that come with access to and penalties for unauthorized disclosure of classified information. However, it is equally important to discuss the importance of protecting controlled unclassified and personally identifiable information from unauthorized disclosure. It will be time well spent to shine a spotlight on the importance of this issue and engage the workforce and conversation about what it means to be a steward of the United States government information. Thats pretty plain and clear, get it together. Brett being someone from the intelligence community, i have a problem understanding why they cannot figure out how to find leakers in the white house. You can polygraph everyone ther there. Harris thats on the table by the attorney general, theres a reason why the cia uses that for their hiring practices. When i look at this issue with leaks, it does make sense. Sandra what else would you do to solve this problem . Brett right now, i would militarize it, just like the current general is doing now. Hes basically bringing the white house to boarding schools they can make it more disciplined and i think thats important. Before we didnt have much discipline. A lot of people were political appointees, they didnt necessarily know what they could and could not say and its a lot of political infighting thats been taking place to make it difficult. There are things other than polygraphs. I think its example of other things in office. Gillian i dont think poly graphing is the answer, ill set it up front for a whole host of reasons, but i do think there are ways you can impact the process that makes leaking, if not more difficult, makes it more obvious who the leakers are which can ultimately get you to where you want to be. For example, one of the reasons general kelly is really raining and who has access to the oval office and the president himself is this exact reason. If you are not controlling the flow of information to the president and a responsible way and youre not controlling access to the president and a responsible way, anyone tom and sally who work in the west wing can grab him and get a word with him. This is a major source. Harris i want to press the idea of who would be inside the administration when they do the shaming that youre talking about, how effective that might be. Gillian heres the thing. Shaming is the worstcase scenario, you have to do a little bit of shaming if you want to put this up on the front and back, but if you can dissuade people from doing this because they feel like theyre going to get called out, thats more effective way of going about it. For example, if you know you should know as the chief of staff who the president s spending time with, for how long, and what setting, from the moment he wakes up until the moment he goes to sleep at night. Thats what a good chief of staffs job is. If you have information, its relatively easier, not easy, but easier to find out who the source of the leaks are. Lisa was on the leaks come to the head when theresa may temporarily pause communication sharing between countries. We still have the issue of Michael Flynn and who leaked those conversations to the public, which is a felony. We still have that question lingering out there, who did that and i think there are suspicions and questions about if the Obama Administration abuse their powers to keep tabs on the trump administration. Its not surprising considering the fact that they spied on recorders, the fisa court criticize them for violating their fourth amendment. Im not satisfied by any means. I do question where you know the Obama Administration changed the way classified information could be disseminated and more easily and widely spread as well in the final days of the administration. I do have a lot of questions about the way this administration kept tabs on the trump administration. Sandra brett, are you confident that someone will potentially be held accountable . Brett when it comes to susan rice, and her unmasking these names, fs political, i have to be honest, she could probably get away with it because i used to have the ability to request unmasking of numbers and there are specific instances when youre allowed to do that and when youre defending yourself in that case, you could get away with it. I dont think well ever know if there was a political motivation for doing so. Harris breaking news changes everything. Were seeing firsthand whats going on to the victims and photo. The number that popped up above, at least 58 people died from Hurricane Irma. That number is growing, unfortunately in the United States and in the state of florida as the heat is on. Its very warm and humid down there and still millions without electrical power and other utilities. Its more than an uncomfortable situation for people down there. It is dangerous in the area where the president is has seen some restoration of utilities, but that heat and the problems that come with it and the unsanitary conditions around having pools of water sticking up or staying rather are difficult to deal with. The first lady is with the president and he has been known to do this. When he went to texas, he had those conversations with people where he puts his hands on people and he promises that they have his attention. Weve heard people say i felt the president heard and saw me. We can take a pause here and listen in for a second. We might hear some wild audio from the president of the United States. Lets see what we can listen to. Fantastic job. Thank you so much. Thank you for all youve done, thank you so much, god bless you. Harris the president there. You wonder what the commanderinchief can accomplish when he touches down like this. Imagine where you reach out your hand and youre touched by the man who is going to help right the ship for you by freeing up the funds, by being there for lawmakers. Lets watch and listen together one more time. All you have to do is look at what happened in the keys. We love these people and will be back to help them and the job but everybody has done in terms of first responders, everybody has been incredible. That includes the people who live here. We see people are merely getting back to work to fix up their homes like bobby and so many others. We are there for you 100 . This is a state i know very well, as you understand. These are special people. Thank you. Harris the president there. When he was in texas after hurricane harvey, people said it made them feel like they were valued by not just the federal government, but by americans in general. He carries the message on behalf of all of us. Now that hes in florida after Hurricane Irma, youve been in scenes i would imagine in the military where you look in the face of people who suffered and you bring them hope just by your very presence. Brett wright, the president is doing what he showed as commanderinchief, hes leading, hes out there in the field. A lot of times people dont realize is the disaster begins after the hurricane. Want to go back to your house and steal the damage that took place. I hope his message to the people is weve got our backs. The federal government has drawbacks. When i flow to harvey to help with the disaster and flow to irma, one of the things i found particularly interesting about harvey was how many people were devastated after the floodwaters receded. I worked with a Veterans Group out there and there were lines of veterans that were needing money, hundreds of them and at the time there wasnt even enough money to give all the people in line what they needed to help out. They had to turn veterans away that had lost their homes, that had to tell their families they didnt have enough money to feed them that night. One of the things are worried about is they needed assistance right then and there. Fema was telling them they were going to get it in a couple weeks. Harris some of the completed factors that we dont talk about in terms of getting money to them. You can walk up with some cash, the atm, they dont have electricity. Even if they had access to their own funds, its hard to get to them sometimes because theres no power. Sandra i was going to highlight who also is with the president of the first lady. You saw marco rubio to his left, all all right, you also saw rock along who has high praise from the president from the federal all way down to the state and local levels. You had the senator, the fema director as well as Vice President mike pence who is standing right over his left shoulder. Huge presence on the ground as we continue to look these live shots. You go back to that feeling, when youre going through this, you know that that presence, knowing that the federal government is there for you behind you, this is a huge moment for this president and so far, he has received high praise. Brett we see that from both sides of the isle which is fantastic and thats what he should be doing. I personally think hes doing a great job. He is supporting the federal government and the citizens. What we saw from harvey was that people were prepared, at least for irma to happen so we had a lot of Disaster Management teams that went there and prepped beforehand and thats a fantastic thing. One of the things we saw immediately with irma was the power went out. Even i left florida harris it went out before the storm even hit the south. Brett right and i remember listening to the storm coming and transformers just blowing up and hearing it through the neighborhood. Thats an issue and its going to continue to resolve. Harris thats an excellent point because we knew that some people have evacuated as things were starting to happen in the wee hours of the morning on sunday. A lot of people evacuated to go to naples and fort myers and the storm is bigger than our state so everybody gets hit. Those people, i hope theyre not trying to come back because we may end up having Power Outages even if the storm doesnt hisses badly. They had epic flooding in miami and Fort Lauderdale areas because they didnt get the eye of the storm. The entire state has been affected by the power outage and thats hard with 100 degrees and humidity. The speed releasing the governors of these states who have been affected about the response when the president and a response from his cabinet officials from greg abbott in texas, john edwards is a democrat. Obviously, we are dealing with the short term and the right now, but what is the most important thing for President Trump and the administration in a longterm as these different states try to rebuild . Sandra kind of the president getting right to work here . Hes jumped right in there with the volunteers, melania as well as himself and handing out what looked like bananas and bottled water. There is a Vice President as well getting straight to work. Lisa shes wearing tennis shoes. Harris lets not go there again. We have audio on this, of course will bring it up when we have it. This is a live view camera, so were able to see so much here. Sometimes we get some wild audio and sometimes we cant. Our producers are keeping a good year to the ground for us as well. Brett, you are asked the question about what needs to be done longterm. Not just politically, but from a heart perspective. Weve learned so much from these storms. What kind of leadership needs to be done down the road. Brett i love to see this right now. The American People need to see this and show how hes helping. Over the long term, definitely needs funding to be brought in. Weve had two major disasters and i think for a while as a country, weve been focused a lot on the wrong thing. We barely have enough assistance out there to help each other so we need to focus on really helping the citizens of florida and we can forget about texas of course and its incredibly important that he works with the federal agencies to get the funding thats needed to help get everything to the citizens of quick as possible. Harris gillian, as you look at the for this being passerby fema, can you imagine you are in front of the president , you are able to get your own selfie. We saw this inside some of the places where people were sheltered with the president during harvey. There were full on salty videos with President Trump and he would stand there so patiently as hes doing now, just to make sure the people are heard and that i contact is made. Gillian thats true and its incredibly important for the people who are directly impacted by a thin natural disasters like this. I would like to point out that these trips the president and the first lady and Vice President take to the areas that are impacted by these hurricanes is not just about the show and the optics of scoring some political points. This is really useful practical implications. As the commanderinchief, we are talking with a longterm effects these hurricanes. He singlehandedly is going to make a series of decisions over the coming days and weeks and months and has the potential to change the trajectory of millies peoples lives. He has a firsthand information you can only get from talking to these folks. Brett is a road map for disasters as well. Gillian its education and practically speaking useful for the american public. Harris moments ago, as of the photos provided by fema, but this is a nuance. The president of the first lady are hosting this event with their own catering, if you will for lack of a better word. Sandra they paid the food. Harris thats different. Sandra its an unbelievable moment. We can experience this not be on the ground, its hot. Its hot in new york city, you can imagine naples, florida. Its a very hot day down there and there is a line of people. There you go. Harris i want my food from the president and i want to handshake and you can have all of it. Its all yours. Sandra lisa, the president Just Announced that this is going to be one of several more visits that he is going to make. He said hes going to continue to followup the progress being made on there, but how does this trip as far as what we are seeing right now, passing out the food that he and the first lady provided, how does this compare to his previous trips down there . Lisa the president was unnecessarily criticized for his first visit to harvey. As we discussed, hes demonstrated the leadership and his actions. Hes been on the ground, his cabinet officials have said theyve been very, very responsive. A record turn around and disaster declaration. I think he is doing absolutely everything he can. I have to imagine for him, someone who is not been a politician, to be in a situation like this, i have to imagine the gravity of seeing all these people suffering and the magnitude of that and the responsibility of this position that hes in, he is for helping all of these people rebuild their lives and i cant imagine being in a situation like him. I commend him for shaking their hands, looking them in the eyes and giving them at hope and belief theyre going to get better. Harris this is what a president does. This is the first time he seen the president on the ground in a crisis situation. Given the division in the nation and some of the issues with race and a whole host of things that have been going on in our country, given the division inside the beltway in washington and lawmakers, i dont believe in coincidence. I believe its an interesting time in our community and the fact that the president has reached across the aisle at this time, he said it himself last week. We have to help people, so were doing we need to do. Heres seeing it with that deal. And then talk of what more can we do . How can we do it together . I think when you talk about the gravity of the situation, i would imagine the believer. Brett theres a lot of good they could come from these disasters as well. And the beauty of americans. For a second, i forgot about politics when it came to Hurricane Irma and harvey as well. People coming together from all walks of life, bringing technology, letting people stay in their homes. It was an incredible thing. Theres no president , theres no color. The only colors that matter are red, white, and blue. Harris you can hear people cheering. Sandra they were taking selfies, they were taking food too. Just to reiterate what the president said when he first got on the ground reporters were able to ask them questions, he said where therefore you 100 . Ill be back numerous times. He assured those people in florida that are suffering so much. Harris he has property down there. Its called the southern white house. Lisa hes been on the ground twice in texas as well. Well see that in the state of texas. As you mentioned, as horrific as it is to see all these people suffering, the lives are forever changed, its terrific. What is beautiful is to see people come together. We are so much more united as a country that we want to give credit. Theres this focus in on the division, i think people are more willing to help each other. Theres Less Division than is typically brought to the forefront. As you mentioned, we see people help each other. Sandra after landing just moments ago in florida, the president and the first lady, as well as the Vice President had gotten right to work. As you can see on a very hot thursday and naples, florida. The president and first lady and Vice President pence serving food to those who have been hit hard by the path of irma in florida. We are going to keep watching this for you, the president on the ground in florida visiting the victims of irma, will be right back. Some things are simply impossible to ignore. Just a few moments ago, shortly after landing, the president and the first lady got right to work. They started handing out food they provided personally to victims of Hurricane Irma. This was after initially landing on the ground, getting an update from first responders. As i mentioned, they had over directly to meet with victims of Hurricane Irma. Passing out looks like bananas, bottled water among other things. The president and the first lady on the ground in florida. Well keep monitoring this for you. Lisa Hillary Clinton slamming her supporters who did not turn out to vote for her and a 26 election. A saying that the Electoral College ought to be done away with in the wake of her failed campaign. Watch. Did give absolution to those who didnt vote . No, i dont. Its hard for me to comfort somebody who is coming to me and saying i wish id done more or i didnt vote because i think this was one of the most consequential elections that we have faced in a long time. No absolution. You mention the popular vote in the book. Do things like Coral College should be abolished . I would like to see it eliminated. Yes. Lisa even though she lost, taking a bit of a victory lap yesterday on the view. Speak out we did. I won the popular vote. Lisa meanwhile, President Trump lasting his former opponent on twitter writing perfect hillary blames everybody and everything but herself for her election lost. She lost the debates and her direction. You get the first question, my friend, is this sour . Weve seen her blame everything under the sun. She is creative in coming up with a list of reasons why she lost. Your thoughts. Gillian i will say this. It is sour grapes, but i will say that for a week after the election, conservatives were slamming her for not having any degree of selfawareness, any degree of self reflection. What i would say to those same people is you may not agree with the lessons she has learned from her failed campaign, but heres her book. Shes written about why she thinks she failed. That answers the mail on that. We had so many rounds on this very couch about is the Democratic Party not realizing why they lost this election . Sandra she wrote a book called what happened and blamed everybody but herself. Harris is like a sweetheart with all of oil on i it. This woman wanted to be commanderinchief. For those who grip military, for those who serve, such a different category and we thank you for your service. Is this the action of a general . I want to tell you 95 people and going to blame, she wanted to be commanderinchief and that is how she behaves. Brett this is not how a leader acts, absolutely not. The worst part is shes talking about democracy when shes talking about wanting to remove the Electoral College. That was President Trumps focus, he focused on winning the electoral votes. If that change, she would have switched strategies. Gillian depending on where you stand. Lisa president obama won a states she didnt win, states that hadnt gone for republicans, but dont you think theres a lot from the Democratic Party about russia and destabilization of the voting process, but dont you think that those columns for Electoral College system and has worked for over 200 years, is not so much more destabilizing and americans losing faith than voting . Gillian yes, but i feel its useful and can be constructive to have a conversation about it. I think a lot of americans dont even really understandably dont know the ends and outs of what the electoral system really means in terms of consequences at a national level. Not using it as the sharpest political weapon. Maybe the day after you lost election is not a day to start the conversation. It isnt worthwhile as a conversation go harris its not a steep curve. Gillian if its worked, weve had destabilization. Lisa the white house of weighing in on a controversy thats burning up social media, suggesting that an espn anchor be fired after she called President Trump a white supremacist and a bag it among other things. Did she cross the line . Should the white house be getting involved . Those questions we debate find out coming up next. You dont let anything lkeep you sidelined. Come on thats why you drink ensure. Was sandra that one house not suggesting espn anchor jemele hill should be fired after her twitter tirade blasting President Trump. Among her comments, donald trump is a white supremacist who has largest abounded himself with other white supremacists. And trump is the most ignorant, offensive president of my lifetime. His rise as a direct result of whites primacy. Period. Sarah sanders firing back. Here is her response when asking President Trump is aware of those comments. Im not sure hes aware, but thats one of the most outrageous comments anyone could make and its certainly something thats a fireball by espn. Sandra hours later, hill apologized to espn and a statement writing this. My comments on twitter express my personal beliefs. My regret is that my comments and the public way i made them painted espn and an unfair light. My respect for the company and my colleagues remains unconditional. The network says it has accepted her apology and she goes to work as usual after that. Is that okay . Brett thats up for espn to decide. As a veteran and other veterans, we fought for peoples rights to be able to say whatever they want to and politics aside, unless its coming from people who are threatening the president like what happened outside of the threats, people should be able to say what they want. The problem i have is there seems to be a double standard. Other people have been fired for doing the exact same thing then people who lean more right. I dont like the double standard of that, but for my opinion, i dont think anyone should be fired for providing political commentary. Sandra does is reflect badly on the network . Lisa the white house has every right to criticize or respond to with this statement and i do think calling for the firing is taking it one step too far. Espn is eating crow. We saw a loss of 12 million subscribers since 2013 which equates to a billion dollars per year of revenue, so i think theyre bearing the fruit of taking a hard left radical turn of the network has taken. A lot of critics can point on the double standards come out looking at someone like curt schillings was fired for making political statements. I think espn sort of already is getting caught up. Sandra when you are speaking in such a public format, i understand your comments on free speech and thats generous, but in such a public way. Harris its complicated.
