And they said that they were unprepared for what is happening in downtown. They have never seen anything like it. Harris just a short time ago, the city tweeted out if you did stay behind and are behind, get out now. Everybody else, shelter in place. We have to let it pass coming into the water is coming in at high tide. Measures up to the worstcase scenario. Bill there are a lot of places like orlando that have to feel good right now. But in jacksonville, they are really worried about downtown, now prepared to have the drainage. And when you see a lot of the shots, a lot of people were prepared with their kayaks, but not prepared in jacksonville. They did not think it would get like that. Harris it took a turn and change this weekend. And we are at fox news pulling our assets into place. One of them as our reporter peter doocy was live in jacksonville right now. Tell us what is happening. Well, we can see. Harris, you can see that the water here in jacksonville, two blocks away from the st. Johns river is continuing to rise. There is actually a current here in the middle of the street, just in front of some restaurants. A legal office, basically white caps. If you look down at the end of the road, some very, very strong winds. Continuing to bring the st. Johns river water, the storm surge towards us. Down there as to the end of the stop sign, just in the 15, 20 minutes that we have been there prior to meters next to the stop sign continue to be further and further submerged. You can look, the waves really are lapping up here into the intersection. At the businesses, it looks like somebody may be wrapped up a po box. But the business which is for lease here, and some of these places down here that look like restaurants, we have not been able to get down, they have not been sandbagged. Already with the water still expected to rise four or six more feet by 2 00 this afternoon, there is what looks like the beginnings of some significant water damage. And down the street, another one, if you look all the way down, you can see some cars are flooded, and in the near ground, looks like somebodys storm shutter has just been completely rendered inoperable, because it is laying in the middle of the street where water is piling up. Still very strong wind here in jacksonville. This is part of florida where authorities are warning anybody who is in their house and needs to be rescued to go ahead and put a white sheet on their door, right now. So that the authorities as the water continues to rise, when it is safe for them to go out, they know which house they need to go to. But it is already an ugly situation. No way that a vehicle will get through here. Im not sure we have not seen anybody try down here. We did see somebody in a high water vehicle try to get through a little while ago, they had a hard time. The situation in jacksonville is not Getting Better right now, and we will be here ready to move back as the water raises, harris. Harris we want to remind everybody that this is more than 400 miles from where irma first came to shore in the keys, where you are right now part of that is so significant to talk about the size of the storm. I want to hand it off to brian kilmeade, i think you have a question. Bill for one thing, it does not seem bad out, it seems like the sun is coming out. So its all about the winds that are causing the turmoil . It is wind and the tide is not going to be be at its hight point until 2 00, so two hours from now. But you are right, the rain here has stopped. And we drove across most of the entire panhandle for the last few hours to get here from alabama. And to the rain was never horrible the whole way. But the wind was really picking up. As we got closer and closer on i10 east. And once you get into jacksonville, the police have many off ramps and as a cramps off the freeway and near 95, which anybody who has passed through is very familiar with, they have them blocked off, because there is already high water. Its not the high water that we saw in houston last week when we were there for harvey, but again, it is a strong current that is still coming. Harris peter doocy, that is not what we anticipated. The downtown area of jacksonville to look like. We know that the mayor, everybody has been telling everybody to shelter in place. You are giving us some great reasons for that to happen. Peter doocy and downtown jacksonville, florida. Lets go to where the storm first hit the united states. That is the keys. Adam housley in key largo, looks better as far as the weather, but the damage is punishing. Yes, the weather, the winds finally stopped early this morning. Still battered after it hit mainly in a second time. Still pretty brutal winds this morning. But as you can see behind me, the keys got absolutely hammered, especially on the ocean side. Local officials are saying that it is a humanitarian crisis in some places. No water or little water depending on where you are in the keys. No cell phone service. No power anywhere. That makes it difficult. When you drive along this ocean side, after a scene like this, the good news, they believe a lot of people got out. We know that from being here about six days, a lot of people left. We met people that stayed for hurricane andrew that did not defer this one. Thats the positive coming into those that didnt stay had enough time to prepare, a good example right here. I stood here on friday, it was friday we were here. Friday there was a houseboat right here that said hold my beer, irma, i will be right back. But now it is just a piece of plywood. Across from me, you cannot see, the Sheriffs Department on friday was a fish fry. Looks like the tsunami in thailand. You guys can see it. It is in the water. Its insane. And you are seeing this after scene after scene, devastation on the ocean side. But its mostly wind and tree damage down on the bayside. That will be cleaned up a lot quicker. But the ocean side got smashed. You can see by these photos, this is one area. We drove down to mile marker 55, 30 miles south of us right now. And it looks like it is all the way down. They are worried about down by marathon, they say marathon got hammered hard. We were outside the eyewall. We were on the dirty side of the storm. And as he watched, we got smashed yesterday, continued for about 30 hours of heavy straight winds. Hurricane force winds for more than 24 hours. Harris i remember that houseboat that you were standing next to. We were talking about some of the video where boats were in trees. So i asked her then, why do they think that will work out differently . It did not, and then you have an apartment complex, and 810 unit that collapsed under the weight of the winds and the flooding. That is outside of plantation. And then you have no hospital still open, is that the case . Yes, they have been doing aerial surveys, the hospitals are closed, no Ambulance Services whatsoever. The Sheriffs Department is not responding to calls. They are just going out. Obviously if it is a serious emergency, they will. But they are assessing streets to check on people who are alive or not, National Guard is stage there with massive help. Doing the assessment too high for you to see. Over to my right, people did listen. Thats the one thing that we have to remember. There was somebody one person and his wife, of all the area, we talked about that on friday, only one couple stayed. Everybody else got out, thank god. The couple that stayed in the middle of the hurricane went over to the house on the other side of that restaurant which i showed you a minute ago, and they knocked on the door and they had to cut a hole and go into the second story, because where i am standing it was about i am 62 and a half, think about that, the water was right here. And this area that we are standing on was a nice jet that you can walk on. And it is down like 2 feet. At the water was that strong. It ripped it out. Harris was at their house or somebody elses house that they cut a hole in to try and get out of the way . It was somebody elses home, but those people stayed as well. They did it together. They said they were talking about how they had waves in their living room. Harris we know that Emergency Services said, look, we are not coming to get you if you decide to save the link next day. They had to help themselves. But i know that you were in a bunker. You described it to us late saturday night predicted you have to get in there and stay in it for a while . The hotel, yes and no, the hotel was a bunker in itself. Second story, only windows on one side. It was the good side. Those windows had built in storm shutters that i latched on myself prior to the other side was a metal door. We were on the second story. We were in the best possible place. Today had another room in the middle of the building that we couldve gone into that was surrounded by a block and no windows. We did not have to go that far. It was brutal. And i know you guys have to go, but the Emergency Services were stationed down a marathon, they had to pull out and evacuate during the hurricane back to ilan marotta they lost a number of cruisers. Harris we have to go, because you my friend are on battery power. We have been warned that you have to regenerate whenever you can. We will let you walk away. No power for 52 hours. Harris thats why they said to people if you stay, you better be ready. Its a good thing they were able to break in and cut a hole into their neighbors house to stay alive. Adam housley, thank you very much. Okay, so now we have some fresh pictures. Remember that peter doocy was in jacksonville, causing epic flooding look at that. This is early houston type footage right now. He looks a little bit like harvey for jacksonville. It is not high tide for another hour and 45 minutes. They are bracing for that. Tropical storm irma right now, but she is still mean as ever. Headed inland, more than 400 miles as i mentioned from where she first at the u. S. Mainland. Going northwest towards georgia. That state is already feeling it. Atlanta is under its first ever Tropical Storm warning. I was born there. Never heard of that. Tens of thousands of people in the coastal and southern parts of the states are without utilities. Along with georgia, alabama, South Carolina are also at risk from storm surges. We have seen with the storm can do. 40,000 people evacuated South Carolinas islands as we speak. Lets go to chief meteorologist Rick Reichmuth. Incredible, the highest winds measured at 142 miles per hour. This is where we have the sensors to measure the wind. And down on the keys where we have them in the 120s, not a lot of spots, blown out as well. This is what we recorded, and miami far away from a 90mileanhour wind. But up the florida peninsula, now here it is a across parts of georgia. This yellow is heavy rain. Getting ready to rotate towards atlanta, the suburbs will fill it first. The general flow continues to pull off towards from the east, and the rainfall total getting very extreme and southeast georgia. We have more rain to go. We will see areas another 35 inches of rain. A lot of other places 35 inches of rain. And in addition to the rain we have the onshore flow. On the east side of florida, not where the storm hit, and throughout georgia in toward South Carolina, the flow has been consistent pulling all of the water onto land at the same time that it is raining and that water that is filling up into the streams and the the dash te picture youre seeing in jacksonville can siding with what it does with high tide, going to be very dangerous. Going up toward savannah. We will see measurements that are higher than what we saw yesterday and hurricane matthew, and in some cases the highest that we have seen for measurements here for water rights. His team towards charleston, get ready, the storm surge with the wind increasing throughout the day, we expect to see the storm surge peak later on today. We will go through a couple of high tide cycles. More rainfall trying to drain out into the ocean, and it cannot, because the ocean level is higher than the river that is trying to drain into it. It is making all the water rights. Harris it is a story about water once again. We will come back to you as the news warrants. We are beginning to get a glimpse now of all of the damage that irma has done to florida. Millions of people not out of the woods as we have been telling you now as this thing bears down on jacksonville. The danger remains. Including storm surges that rick was talking about and record levels at some parts of the states. We are live with all the latest on irma. Stay close. At ally, were doing Digital Financial services right. But if thats not enough, we have 7500 allys looking out for one thing, you. Call in the next ten minutes to save on. And if thats not enough, well look after your every dollar. Put down the phone. And if thats not enough, well look after your every cent. Grab your wallet. Access denied. Speak to this day fox news alert, millions of people are without power in florida, as what remains of irma flashing the sunshine state. Storm surge warnings remaining in effect at tampa bay, st. Petersburg area. Residents in lowlying areas told to remain sheltered in place until authorities can assess the damage. They say that it is safe to come out. Especially near beaches where they say that it is strong. Sucking the water out of tampa bay. An eerie mix of sludge and puddles, powerful tropical winds pushing all of that water back joining us live from the town of st. Pete beach sitting on a Barrier Island west of st. Petersburg. What are you seeing . Well, we were hunkered down on same peach beach saint pete beach. Coincidentally tampa bay some 300,000 people without power this morning. It goes to show that the storm had a mind of its own. I want to show you some of the unfortunate damage from irma, the yacht crushed up against the vote, the starlight sapphire dining yacht. The owner tells me as you can see it is up against that bridge there. They say that the bridge did not suffer damage, still working to determine if the wires and piping is hot. Then after that the owner says that they will send down a diaper to check out the running gear underneath the vote. To my right, unfortunately you can see where it crashed up against the land here, still kind of dragging against it. Big picture, fortunately this area was spared the wrath of irma, our friends in naples, that area took the brunt of the storm. This area they expected a 68foot storm surge. As you can see the water is choppy, but no storm surge. Able to drive around with not a lot of flooding. But this area can breathe a sigh of relief even with the high tide. We do not expect any major league make major storm surges. We will keep you updated on the recovery effort here. And really quick, i want to take this moment to thank the fox news crew that ive been working with. A lot of us were in texas, now we are over here in florida for irma, producer, photographer, and everyone knows that the show does not go on without everybody in production. To dealing with the elements and equipment failing, so i want to thank them, because the report does not get on air without them. Kennedy absolutely coming you guys throw yourselves into the heart of the storm no matter where it is. I thought about all of you today as we were getting ready for the show. This is your second storm and as many weeks. And you are just getting pummeled, you are without sleep, and to bring us those images so that people in the region know exactly what they are dealing with. How dangerous it is. So the rest of us can see the after effects and people in the storms harvey and irma in our hearts, thoughts, and prayers. Thank you so much. For sure, kennedy, you got it. Kennedy taking it to the couch right now. Many of you have personal history and experience in florida. Abby, you have lived there. Have you talked to some your family members there . Have you ever experienced anything like this . Abby no, i dont think the state has spread i spent time in orlando, thats where my mom is from. But a lot of my family is right they are st. Pete. I called them this morning, the tough part about that storm when it hit the area was overnight. So it was completely dark. They woke up unsure of what the situation would be. I call my fatherinlaw and my grandma was on oxygen, not able to evacuate like so many other people. And they said, we woke up and at least the roof was still there. The area for some People Better than for others. Their beach house, they had no idea what it looks like pit or they cannot get out there. That will be in the coming days, thats whats so hard for so many people in florida, going back and seeing what is left of Everything Else that they have. Bill unlike atlanta which is getting hit right now, they are experienced with hurricanes and have adjusted the houses since andrew. Are they all have storm shutters, windows, and if they cant, they got out. If you look at the jacksonville shots, there are no cars on the streets. Where in texas you saw in houston, because they were told, hang out, dont leave kennedy and we are talking about different elements of the storm. It hits different places in different ways. You see a brain from harvey, you see wind and storm surge from irma. Harris good point, and the magnitude of the storm, but just the size. You needed every part of florida was going to be touched, the storm was bigger than the entire state. You mention georgia, the metropolitan, atlanta Rapid Transit ability has suspended all bus, rail, Mobility Services ahead of the Severe Weather conditions moving and now by irma. To do to those, governor has expended the emergency and the entire state of georgia. You are seeing them react like the west coast of florida. You have a good point prior to the west coast of florida has seen more hurricanes than georgia has. Bill 60mileanhour winds, and i was in atlanta during the super bowl when it got hit with snow, they are not used to it. Like dallas was not. They had no idea how to handle it. Im hoping they adjusted this better. Abby you have so much family to there, melissa. You say they are out of power. Melissa it is about the restoration without power. You have 6 Million People in florida right now who do not have powered. They woke up as you said, hit overnight. We were on the air overnight as the tampa area was getting hit. Her family as they woke up this morning, looks very much like a war zone. Do you walk outside and there is stuff everywhere. You do not have the power to get things up and running. So it will be a major cleanup effort. But the folks in jacksonville to be under so much water like that and the way that it is sitting with high tide coming in, they have not seen a surge like that since 1965, and the damage is unimaginable. Bill i hope that theyll flood insurance, and in jacksonville, they probably do, not new to them. Harris the percentage of People Living without it is pretty daunting. You talk about electrical power, thats one thing. But im reading county after county, the water pressure, this is a utility situation. Now youre in your house and you do not have Running Water or the other things that might make it easy for staying in the house. You have to wait it out 5272 hours now for people to get to you, you do not want to go outside and get hurt. The Emergency Services are not what they always are. In the caves, no hospitals open. Kennedy we are continuing to track irma, next we will go to orlando, home to a cluster of theme parks including disney world, as you know. They saw wind gusts up to 100 miles per hour, and torrential rain. President trump approving a Disaster Relief for florida. Using federal funds to relieve them there. He says he plans to go there very soon. The president s response so far and what he needs to do next. Stay with us. Dynamic performance, track tuned handling, and aggressive styling. Eastern hour, we are watching for the high tide in jacksonville. Looking at the winds whipping up the water with white caps. This is downtown jacksonville. Looks like they superimpose the buildings behind the ocean. Irma has been downgraded. It does not look like it there. It is now a Tropical Storm. But the winds and water, obviously still doing their worst. Jacksonville getting recordbreaking storm surge, only expected to get worse with the high tide at 2 00 p. M. Eastern. People tracking inside their homes are expected to put out a white flag or Something Like that so that rescuers will know how to find them. Much of Central Florida including orlando with all of its theme parks, the suffering of significant damage. The National Guard and fire teams are effectuating more than 120 flooded homes already outside the city. They are doing more. Bill hemmer is live in orlando now. Hello, harris, good afternoon. We are getting the squalls through here. Going to continue through several hours here. I would say maximum winds, maybe 35 miles an hour. Maybe 40 on the high end. But mostly in the 25, 30mileanhour range. They come in moments, then they leave. And that sperling will continue until perhaps 6 00 and in the evening hours. With regards to jacksonville, one distinction that we need to make, we saw the water in houston. And it was a result of Hurricane Harvey that stalled over the city. And i just dumb terrain. 52 inches of rain. The water in the lowlying area had nowhere to go. The water was saturated. All i could do was keep it in place. Thats where you saw road after road and neighborhood after neighborhood underwater. That jacksonville deal is a big difference. The high tide 90 minutes away. I know it is no consolation for the Business Owners watching this right now and listening to peter doocy talk about the lack of sandbags. By the water is going to rise. It will come up for a long time and going out with the ocean as well as we move into the evening hours. Very similar to what we saw in miami yesterday. And again last evening. I think the pictures out of the keys from adam housley are stunning. If you listen to his reporting when he and producer road out to the category 4 impact, they are just in one spot of a 7080mile stretch of roadway. The imagination runs wild just to think, harris, how much damage there is in the florida keys at the moment. Harris you know, bill, we are starting to get notes. Not even the pictures, but notes through tweets and other social media about all the damage in the keys. People putting out oneliners about apartment complex that has fallen about the fact that the bridges have to individually be checked. They do not want anybody out even when the sun comes out. They do not want anybody on any structures. They took so much wind and a hairline crack might not be something that you can see with our bare eyes, and something could fall. They do not want people out there. Theres so much more to the story in the keys. Several hundred miles away from where youre standing right now was where irma made landfall. Yes, and another part of the state that we will give a lot of attention to, that is marco island. It was the scene of the second hit when it was reduced to a ca. But you think about the ocean hitting land yesterday. No access to the road there. There is a curfew in orlando until 6 00 tonight. You would not know it from the traffic behind me. We heard a police car go by a while ago with a loudspeaker, not sure what they are saying. But we believe curfew and is in effect until 6 00 tonight. Having said all of this, we should be grateful based on a lot of the projections, frankly that were bound for the state of florida. You think about the timing of the tide going out into the storm hitting land in sarasota, saint petes, and further south in fort myers and naples. It couldve been a stroke of luck here. Maybe a minor miracle that the timing happened when it did. Harris i would say bigger than a minor miracle. Bill what can you say about orlando . I see the wind, we saw some wide shots, it looks a lot worse when it is close up pedestal with the people of Central Florida, worrying about their relatives or what is going on, are the roads are passable . Are people able to get around, curfew or not . This is monday. Since friday and friday night, this is the most that ive seen in the past four days. They heeded the warnings, got off the roads, they went to the hotels, they went for Higher Ground. They went to relatives. They went to friends houses. They moved around the state as the storm force them to move. And they are going to make their way home. But the important thing now is the electric lines in the road, accessibility. They are urging people to stay where they are for the moment. I will tell you that patients only last so long. And where we are in orlando. Its been a remarkable thing. If they hear the kindness and the patients on behalf of so many people. But it will run out. But for the people here in orlando, 300,000 lost power. They got lucky. Melissa we are watching a lot of traffic go by behind you. Great news, because everybody without power is very frustrated and wants our power back. But we have seen a lot of cars go back and forth behind you. Yours is the only live shot where we are seeing that. It does seem like there are people moving around to where you are. How long has that been going on . I would say a couple of hours. This is the first time that we have seen it. I think what it does, gives people a sense of confidence that the worst is over and they have gotten through this at least here locally, other parts of the state it will be a big matter. What you are looking at them jacksonville, this is something else. 52 years since you have seen water this high. We have yet to see the images out of savannah. Watching Rick Reichmuth report from 10 minutes ago, Charles Dennis after that. And the tightest timed perfectly to bring more water into the lowlying areas. Harris charleston has been hit so many times before. You have so much tender ground along the coastline there. A couple of things, 125 plus rescues reported of rescues. Where you are in orlando, and you talked about the keys, the National Guard is now saying that it is trying to land in the airport so that they can get the people in the keys and help them out. One quick last thought from you . We talked to bill nelson, the senator from florida an hour ago. He is going marco rubio on a coast guard helicopter right now. Hoping to get to key west, florida. They will come back later tonight. We hope they have pictures and images. We have yet to see the aerials. And my best guess is that once we see them, the strip of the florida keys could be just a scene of devastation as we move mile after mile after mile. So well wait to see whether or not to that will be the case in the end. Harris the police chief in the keys told us on friday that that is what he was anticipating. But they were ready for it. We pray for them, we will get the images later today on fox news. Thank you very much. Brian thats why in the caribbean they do not have great infrastructure, 25 people died before you even got to florida. Harris they have added another ten now. Not to mention the fact that the National Guard and the coast guard, the u. S. Coast guard, admiral pete brown told me that they had moved all their assets out of the way. They had already moved more than 1000 people off of just saint martin, americans. Because they are running out of supplies player. They were going ahead of the storm in between that and jose to get the people off of the island. Abby a lot of the areas hit five irma, jose is coming. Harris u. S. Coast guard, say those words with gratitude today. We will move on, situational critical in one of the most popular cities, miami. This is historic flood waters, still rising. Dozens of rescues underway. Authorities tell people to get to Higher Ground as the tide comes in. The latest is straightaway. Football coach. Look at that formation. But when it comes to mortgages, hes less confident. Fortunately for andre, theres Rocket Mortgage by quicken loans. Its simple, so he can understand the details and be sure hes getting the right mortgage. Apply simply. Understand fully. Mortgage confidently. Hi. And i know that we have phonaccident forgiveness. Gent, so the incredibly minor accident that i had tonight four weeks without the car. Okay, yup. Good night. With accident forgiveness your rates wont go up just because of an accident. Switching to allstate is worth it. Abby as irma heads north, miami is dealing with the impact hours after the wind battered the city. So big even after it goes up the coast come the storm surge flooded miami streets on the other side of the state. Meantime, miami Police Investigating reports of looting as irma battered the city. Authorities say groups in a white truck it to multiple stores, at least two people arrested. Two others have been detained. Bill keating live in miami. We know in these situations it brings out the very best in people, but also the very worst. What are you hearing . Absolutely, abby, usually it takes a few more days after it rolls through before the looting starts. But still happening yesterday, three reports of looting. Seven young men trying to steal a bunch of shoes from a new shoe store grade was purported about somebody trying to steal some guns from a gun store. This is busy normandy boulevard, busy all the time. Always traffic. This tells you today is not a normal day. Far from normal. Most people have not gone back to work. Most people are basically cleaning up. So much debris to clean up. This is a 2. 5foot diameter tree. You can see the root system. It all blew down as the winds shifted from the east going west to the south going north. It was a very rough hellacious day. We stood in it for most of the day yesterday, was driving winds, rain, driving paneling that never seem to stop. 30 hours at the southeast coast endured of hurricane irma. Nobody was on this, the people who did not evacuate, hiding the other hotels and homes. Plenty of neighborhoods still dealing with the effects of the 24foot storm surge, in most cases it has receded, but by far not all. If you are elderly or disabled, well, as we found out today, the days or days after a hurricane can be a frustrating experience. First we are going to call our Insurance Companies for the two autos, i dont even know if the cars will start, because the engines may be half underwater. And to the flood insurance, and home owners insurance, the carriers. And we will notify all the Insurance Companies, that is the main tour today. We hardly have battery on the phone. You are looking live at returning residents who have walked about a mile or two over the bridge, which connects the mainland, it connects the village before you get to the mainland with miami beach. These are people who evacuated, left their car on the other side of the bridge, now coming home where they can check out ansi with the damages. The reason that they are walking into there is a roadblock, nobody is allowed to enter miami beach, the city of now until tomorrow morning. It is closed out to anybody getting in. They want to make sure that they get there and make sure that all the trees are not blocking the roadways anymore, make sure that the fuel, gasoline spills, and hazards are cleaned up. Make sure that there are no power lines blocking the road. Speaking of power, still a major issue. Always a top priority after a hurricane. About 1. 5 million households and businesses in miami county without power. You take two People Living in each place, thats 3 Million People in south florida without power. But 17,000 crews all out and about, 17,000 people, all working fast. We have seen it this morning. Going in and taking care of what they can do. Moving onto the next project, same thing with the trees. Of the whole road was blocked, it was all over the road. Abby this is the emotional part, everybody Walking Around and seeing what is left of many of their homes. Thank you so much. A life there and miami. I want to bring it to the couch now. We are talking about the emotions of this and what people go home too, but also the power. You were telling us at the commercial break, now reported that 65 of florida is out of power . Harris its not just the electrical power, its the life inside of your house without utilities. Thats orlando, everybody. Look at your screen. You want to know about the power of a storm. Remember how bill hemmer said that they were lucky. What does it take to move something that has been in the earth for that long onto the ground . That is amazing. Hey, guys come i want to get this end, this is coming from charleston county, South Carolina, from the twitter. The emergency twitter. They are under a Tornado Warning right now. I suspended all ems operations, a high wind bridge advisory, and conditioned red now. You have the Tornado Warning in effect in charleston as this feast of a storm move southwest. Abby it so important to take those storm seriously. The aftermath of florida, and still what is going on, what happens with the amounts of winds, shattered windows, the size of the trees, there is a reason why they are saying, get out.
