We are now getting word, reports that Ohio Governor john kasich will be making an announcement this afternoon and reports are that he will be suspending his campaign. So again, we just got word that announcement will be coming this afternoon. Reports are john kasich will be dropping out of this race. I want to open it up to the counter right away. Things could be changing. Lets talk about the populist and it does start last night. A lot of times media will get the heads up and even the audience members who were there gathered to supported crews would get a heads up. You could hear this and a very real gas from people who were there so that begins the conversation. Then got word that john kasich would be making a statement at the dulles virginia airport, the airport in dallas and that that was supposed to come at 10 45 on the east coast. Then that changed just a short time ago saying that no, he was going to his home state and would givesome sort of a statement at 5 pm eastern in columbus and now widely being reported , multiple reports that this word that he is set to suspend his campaign. We knew that money issues were on the table for him. We knew that actually weeks ago melissa. Thats not a shocker but we also knew was that Reince Priebus from his tweet last night says donald trump will be the presumptive gop nominee. We all need to unite and focus on defeating Hillary Clinton. Hashtag never clinton. That is from the account of the leader of the rnc. I had a big reaction to that last night. I thought that was one of the most momentous things that happened because that was a clear signal to everyone that was going to see of what needed to be done. Cruz wasnt surprised. Reporter this leaves it to donald trump, not as if that were the case but the strategy for ted cruz and john kasich going into indiana and going into these later primary rounds was to try to prevent ultra from securing the 1237 electoral votes or delegates needed to secure the nomination. That would have open it up on the floor and allow perhaps another candidate to come through. Thats not going to happen now. It seems likely donald trump even before these two dropped out was going to secure the 1237 he needed on the first ballot. Last night you had senator ted cruz dropout, john kasichs Campaign Said they would continue to fight on but it became clear to them in the last few hours that that wasnt a strategy they can move forward with and donald trump would likely end up with the 1237 votes he needed and there would be no point in going to convention, no point to continue campaigning. We had cameras ready to go there but kasich never left ohio so hes going to hold an event there later today and thats where we expect hes going to announce it as fox news does confirm that john kasich is suspending his campaign, leaving the field to donald trump as we do await that formal announcement this afternoon rich, you begin to wonder what else he will say in that announcement and in those remarks that he does make. What will he say about supporting or not supporting donald trump or bringing the Party Together . It is a question that john kasich and a number of republicans in washington dc and around the country are asking themselves. How will they support donald trump . Will they support donald trump . How much will they support donald trump and there are already divisions some in the u. S. Senate who have come out and said they oppose donald trump through this process. Will they change their minds because again, if youre not supporting donald trump in the general election, youre supporting a democrat as a republican so what will the critique be . Will it be a critique on policy or all of donald trump . These are the questions republicans have been going through for some time now but now that its clear donald trump is going to be the nominee, its one they have to reckon with. Its also interesting rich, when you consider john kasichs words that nobody gets to the white house from the republicans who didnt take the state of. Oh. You need that to get the nomination so on and so forth and he had on his own state. The one state that he did win and now you have to question would he want to throw his support behind somebody that that person could kind of claim ohio in a way . Thats true and if john kasich were to throw his support behind donald trump, two very different candidates, would it matter in ohio if john kasich supported donald trump and those are questions also. How much endorsements have happened in this race. We ate so much attention that endorsements have gotten. He have to start sounding more president ial, a lot more willing to work with others. I couldnt disagree with you more. The last one you made was great, this idea that voters in this country now are rejecting a twoparty system. That is the message you take away from both the left and right is that they dont identify with either party so many are registered as independents but i think it would be a huge mistake for him to get president ial now, especially now. So much of his narrative is this idea that hes an answer to everything that has gone on in washington and that hes going to be totally different. I think its a subtle and polite movement if he moves too much is going to lose people. In fact i dont think its great for him that they both got out. He could have benefited from a fight all the way until the convention because it keeps that narrative going. Imfighting against the guys you hate. But he can do that with hillary. He sharpens his iron basically and their alliance, even though donald trump put it down and it didnt last long, the alliance between cruz and kasich, you could set and a timer on that but even though it didnt, it did help give him rest against the rest of the field even though the formal resistance is gone as far as the convention floor, the resistance will continue. Nothing yet but i would expect melissa or leslie that he will probably make a statement on this at some point. To your point though, this is a guy and we are we agreeing sitting next to each other, maybe. Donald trump has half of the Republican Party support. Hes losing the other half and they havent liked what hes been saying and im not saying hes going to do a full 360. Obviously can. But now positionally its Hillary Clinton as Reince Priebus point put it, its the hashtag never clinton. Thats different from having people in your party and whatever the divide may look like inthat party. If you lookat the polls, although they may not like her, do not trust her , his numbers have been with her. Shes the one that has to find a way to get all of these disenfranchised people out there who have been so supportive of bernie and trump, any of these people to vote for her. That compilation still requires donald trump keeping the Republican Base coalition he will need and the question is, can he consolidate those republicans or any of the other 16 candidates but him. Hes got to have them not just vote because some of them will look for hillary and thats the real establishment and those are the real problems. Its the one that will sit at home and not participate because they will look at hillary and trump as this massive clash of titans and it will be a mess for six months of negative campaigning. He will have a problem. The numbers are the more difficult piece. You see california and new york, he can win those states. The numbers dont bear that out so hes going to have to winin the states the republicans have to win. Ohio, florida, virginia and fight for maybe new classes of voters no doubt but hes got run against the worst candidate in mankind Hillary Clinton. News coming in from carl cameron, he confirmed for fox news that john kasich is set to suspend his campaign when he makes that statement at 5 pm eastern from ohio. Rudy giuliani as Homeland Security director, Chris Christie as attorney general, ben carson as health and Human Services director, i think trump will probably try to get as many big republican establishment names surrounding him before he goes to cleveland, before he goes to the convention because he has got to get the republican establishment back. I think that would be smart. I think he will do it and that is what i expect to see. Beyond people, how does does donald trump position himself differently in the way he orients at Hillary Clinton . Does he make an immediate pivot, an immediate change or take sometime to consolidate . Where does he focus his gaze because he consults all dates the republican side but has to get a crooked hillary as well. In public he has no more work to do on the consolidation of republican supporters. That will all be done behind the scenes. I expect trump to probably carry out the campaign and get california mobilized, washington and oregon and montana and those states to raise the trump flag. In those speeches, that is what he likes to do, the big rallies, he will lambaste Hillary Clinton is what he will do. Why bother with anymore republican politics . He won. So much talk about a contested, brokered convention and how nasty things could get. Does this do anything with donald from being left alone at the top . He has been the front runner since last june but now the presumptive nominee, does this do anything to heal any of the wounds or do you anticipate things being a little not at the convention. And pick the senator from ohio as vp on the democratic side, a real far left guy, that will allow hillary herself to move to the center which she should do very quickly because if she comes off as reasonable, personable, not the ice queen, she could pick up some independent and disenchanted republican votes.
