There are peoplewere obviously not observing the curfew as it has kicked in. Weve seen the secret service take a number of steps to force these folksback from the white house perimeter. Kevin court is here to catch us up to what we are seeing. This is the time the curfew kicks in but a lot of folks are not complying a lot of people still out shannon, not surprised by that but what might surprise you is even as we move farther and farther away from the white house complex we are still hearing the flash grenades go off. You can almost still feel that theyre trying to push the crowd away from the perimeter. Im going to step out of the camera for just a moment. You can see down the street what looks like fire , personnel fire truck there and i think i see one, two, three or four vehicles that probably belong to the use tree station, thats just a guess but they are obviously staging hoping to get over to st. Johns church. We show you those pictures earlier. TheParish Office, at least a portion wason fire. The fire trucks are trying to move down that street and part of the reason youre hearing explosions is secret service and police want to get people off of h street so they can get that fire material in their. I should point out i saw that aflcio building set ablaze. A teachers building also set on fire. Even where we are we can smell the smoke in the air and unfortunately it doesnt look like its updating at least from our position so thats why we walked over here to get a little bit easier Vantage Point to see where the crowd is going to be moving so i can tell you this, most of them are moving up 16 and for you folks at home who are unfamiliar with washington dc 1600 pennsylvania avenue goes right towards Lafayette Park and of course the white house so thats where the crowd is right now. You can also hear sirens as they try to move people out of this area. This is difficultcircumstance and im going to see where these cruisers are heading right now three, four, five. I see a few others on the other side so they are trying to cordon off the area. Im giving you the playbyplay as i see it and i did get more information i will be sure to pass it on. We will check back in with you on our live News Coverage as those fires raged within a block or so of the whitehouse and the curfew is now in effect so i want to bring back incharles moreno, former Us Secret Service agent. Charles, were now at the curfew. The mayor has said it will be enforced and the camera is here so folks can see what were looking at. These lights are shining in the vicinity of the white house. Between the white house and historic st. Johns church which has been there since 1816 and is on fire. We believe a lot of this effort it looks like there may be fire vehicles that have gotten to that area and the effort is to try to get them there to that Historic Church but as we see the perimeter move outand of officers move out explain how this works for the Us Secret Service. As far as moving into the city and away from the white house, would they have jurisdiction in a case like this they have jurisdiction to do really whatever they need to do to safeguard the white house. So the secret Service Uniformed division are essentially sworn federal Law Enforcement officers as are the agents so they are able to execute arrests and also able to execute policing duties as it relates to the safety and security of the first family and the white house so thats what youre going to see them do so in terms of the Statutory Authority perspective, they have the ability to lead and direct and assist with any of the Law Enforcement agencies in helping to secure the facility and thats a good thing. So what youre going to see right now is see them continue to push as you and i both know and your listeners know this latest curfew just like in past nights will come and go. I dont think were going to see all the voluntary following of the curfeworders so again , this is the type of situation where i think Law Enforcement is going to have to bethe forcing mechanism here to get people off the street. And in order to do so it needs to lead to arrests for disobeying the curfew order, then so be it but really at the end of the day the goal here for the secret service is to make sure that that perimeter is as far away from the white house as possible and that its held becauseas we all know the later we get in the hour this evening the worst things typically get. I want to bringin ted williams, a familiar face to fox news. He is a former homicide detective in dc. He has served on the police force and we are glad to have you with us. I want to getyour initial impressions of what youre seeing in Lafayette Park, st. Johns church and this area around the white house. Im in shock. I have served yes as a Police Officer in dc. My law office is only about three blocks from the white house and when you hear about the historic st. Johns church, a church that just about every president at one time is on fire. It kisses me off because what should have happened is they should have had about a mile curfew around the white house where none of those demonstratorsshould be anywhere close to the white house at this time of night. And moreovershannon, they should have had an earlier curfew. It is dumb. It is stupid. It is ignorant to have a curfew in place thats not enforced. As your former guest just said its going to be different very difficult for Law Enforcement to get control of what is going on in dc. This should not have ever happened in the Nations Capital and it shouldnt happenanywhere. This is no longer about george floyd. It is not about him. This is just agitators that want to maim anddestroy this country as we know it. Ted, let me ask you how tough now is the job for local Law Enforcement . Weve been talking with charles whose formally with thesecret service. They have the duty, the perimeter of the white house weve seen them out there and weveheard dozens of officers who have been hurt over the last three nights as this has raged on in dc but with that local police, weve got park police and dc is one of those places theres so many Different Police forces, youve got them for the Supreme Court and theyre all over the place. How difficult is their job now tonight . Its very very difficult. With darkness, the demonstrators own the night. The Law Enforcement officers are at a disadvantage at this time of the night in trying to control. One of the places that definitely want to control and the demonstrators will not get in thereand that is the white house but when you look attheir circumference of the white house, those surrounding areas, the demonstrators are there. Theyre wreaking havoc in those areas. Theyre trying to destroy thoseareas. And they are being successful in doing so. You have as you said shannon all these different Law Enforcement agencies. Capital police , metropolitan police are all secret service , all of them are there but the problem they have is darkness. Darkness is the enemy of Law Enforcement in these situations. Ted williams, attorney and also retired homicide detective with the dc police here and we also have Charles Marino with us, former secret service and kevin cork on the ground. Were going totake it over to philadelphia but before we do where getting a note from the doj. They have deployed us marshals and dea to help the National Guard and secret service in lafayette square, thats that area outside the white house where protests take place 365 days a year, normally there are people that what were told is a reminder its a federal crime to cross state lines or use interstate facilities to incite or participate in writing. The doj will be enforcing those laws. Its the same thing we heard from the attorney general who said as weve heard from a number of local leaders there are people coming into these various cities are not from their area they come there to capitalize on pain and a pure peaceful message that people are trying to carry out. They leverage it for their violent antigovernment andin many cases need that have nothingto to do with the protests and about george floyd and thats where we are tonight. We will continue to let you know whats going on around the white house but we want to check in with Jackie Heinrich where there has been trouble today as well. I want to take you inside a polluted Grocery Store on Market Street and 46th. This is one of the areas that was hit earlier today, all the way from 46 to 62nd. A lot of places get got hit and it seems like anything that was looted earlier in the day police have left mostly to people to come in and do what they want. Throughout the last hour or so theres been groups coming in and grabbing things, running out to look at this place is trashed and we havent seen any police until just a few moments ago when someone drove by and flashed their sirens and people scattered but for the most part there has been no one here all night long and its funny. A few of the people who were leaving the store noticed we were with the news and they started throwing eggs at us and it was another looter who stoppedthem from doing that so its just a free for all and police were totally outmanned youre in philly yesterday and today. 600National Guard members are coming in to assist police tonight because they are just , didnt have enough people to get a handle on anything. And a lot of the officers have been injured. A few blocks from here five police were injured, for the vehicles were burned out. People were hit with rocks, bricks, molotov cocktails and theyre trying to figure out how many officers were hurt in other parts of the city and in addition to the 13 officers injured yesterday. Havent of them got chemical burns to the face. Two got head injuries, forgot injuries to their extremities and last night an officer was injured when a protester ran him over with a car, that officer and member of the bike detail and needed surgery so in an effort to crack down policemoved up the curfew from 8 00 to 6 00 and they shut down large parts of center city which is right around Police Headquarters in city hall so anyone who was gathering would go home. Theres a large peaceful protest there earlier in the day but anyone who came out at night , this is illegal for them to be out and their gathering bigintersections, police in large numbers trying to hold areas that hadnt been hit but anything that got hit earlier in the day its been a free for all and look at this allthe store, this is one of multiple stores in this area. There are also what appeared to be civilian cars that were damaged. Theres a taxicab in front of one of the homes with its windshield smashed in so these are neighborhood Business Owners being affected. Members of this community being affected and also the Big Box Stores like youre seeing here at the aldi. It fires reported across the city and kids, we just saw a band of juveniles come towards us about 10 of them and it looks like they couldnt have been more than 10 years old and these are the people going out at night and taking advantage of a situation where police were outmanned and theyve had to retreat areas they know they can hold and have pretty much let the rest of it go because they dont have the manpower and the National Guard was coming in tonight to assist them butthis is what were seeing in the meantime and its just wreckage all over the store and the spots all across west philadelphia. This is the part of town that was hitearlier today and where a lot of the looting was concentrated. The downtown area wherethe more peaceful protests were held was quiet. All the streets were shut down but every restaurant and retail store was instructed to close in an effort to get people to go home and to try and ahandle on the situation but you still have people coming out at night taking advantage of the situation. So many businesses for the last couple months have been shut down for covid19, luckily not Grocery Stores but as you mentioned the restaurants and other places that were in the process of surviving thatand trying to reopen for business , these are jobs. These are livelihoods, these are life savings in many cases you see destroyed by this activity. Stay safe and we will check back with you a quick break and before we do wehave a live shot in Long Beach California. Were told there is looting going on there, some aggressive activity that does not seem to be part of a peaceful protest heating up there in a number of stores. Many of those places boarded up trying to avoid what we may be seeing tonight. There may be Peaceful Protestersbut in addition there are people who are committing criminal activity in these stores so we will keep an eye on it. Often times these groupsare mixed together with good actors and bad actors and tonight across the country wherewatching as Law Enforcement will have to figure it out in each of these situations. This is live in Long Beach California. We are back in just a minute. Excuse me. Uh. Do you mind. Being a motour . What could be better than being a motour . The real question is. Do you mind not being a motour . I do. For those who were born to ride, theres progressive. I do. The xfinity voice remote will find exactly that. For, happy stuff. The groups happy, im happy. You can even say a famous movie quote and it will know the right movie. Circle of trust, greg. Relax, the needles are jumping. You can learn something new any time. Education. And if youre not sure what youre looking for, say. Surprise me. Just ask what can i say to find more of what you love with the xinity voice remote. To the west coast in Long Beach California, live pictures where a number of stores have been boarded up. Its daylight and yet we have watched as folks have broken through the wood and glass into what we think is a ross retail store. This is live as people appear to be grabbing items and not leaving the store. It was moments ago they were breaking those boards trying to get in. Doesntlook like theres any Law Enforcement at this particular location that is able to or being able to stop the sports. Long beach california, as we watch this and protests and riots and criminal activity across the country i want to bring in bernard kerrick, former nypdcommissioner to talk about whats going on in new york and beyond. Good to have you with us, i doubt you can see what were looking at but i described to you as people are breaching stores inthe daylight on the west coast. Law enforcement cant be everywhere but what do you make of us watching these pictures across the country where people are engagingin criminalactivity with no fear of being arrested at this point . I think a lot of these cities were not prepared. I think they didnt know the intelligence they needed to know what was coming and when. Im not disturbed by it because when i look at social media i see a bunch of stuff on social media that tell me when, where, why, who and i just find it hard to believe that some of these chiefs, some of these mayors, especially the mayors office. Your sworn to uphold the law and protect the people that are in your jurisdictions and they are just not doing it and as giuliani talked earlier i thought to myself a lot of these citiesin these cities under normal conditions. Just this weekend we had 46 people shot in chicago, like seven dead, nine dead just in this weekend, in this last weekend. They cant take care of the city when its normal so things like this, i think the mayors are afraid. I think many of them are leftist. Theyre socialist. Mayor de blasio who went to cuba on his honeymoon, hes a socialist. He doesnt condemn this and i find it really difficult, hard. Its hard for me to believe that mayors and chiefs of police would tolerate this criminality. This aggressive, aggressive extreme violence. What were watching in Long Beach California right now is happening as they have breached the door of a ross retail store and it appears people are grabbing stuff and leaving through this plywood and glass area that theyve broken out. Its crazy to think the biggest concern weve had the last three months has been covid and the potential deadly spread and in these places we see a mixture of not Wearing Masks, Wearing Masks close to each other, protesting those together and were not even having that conversation about how weve been warned to stay home and take things slowly. Youve got to wonder if that is going to be an additional concern along with all this unrest andpotential spread of illness for people who are not observing social distancing or Wearing Masks. I want to return tonew york because we had brian dennis at Fulton Broadway where this started out earlier in the day and we for from Kevin Corrigan washington. A lot of these protests started out peaceful. There were people who had a message to share. They had signs, photos and stories to tell and yet so much of it needs to have been coopted by bad actors whoare going after private property. Theyre going after Law Enforcement officers. New york has had some issues the last two or three nights i tried to get mayor giuliani to tell us advice, we didnt get that far but as former policecommissioner there, what would be your advice at this point to is it possible to get things under control in new york . Ill give you one example. We once had about 700, 700 people that were going to walkacross the brooklyn bridge. Giulianididnt want them on the bridge. He said if they get on the bridge , theyre getting arrested. Joe esposito was in the department and interested 700 people really took everybody that walked on thebridge and he took them all. They surrounded it. They cordon them off and they lockedthem all up , all at one time it never happened again. They didnt come back. Youve got to use force where force is necessary. Today we live in this politically correct society where i think chiefs are afraid to have their cups allowed there and use force. I think the mayors are afraid for political reasons. I just think its disgusting. Giuliani would never ever tolerate this kind ofbehavior in new york city or i would be out of a job. Howard safer would have been fired, bratton would have been fired, hewouldnt take itand none of these mayors could take it. Theyre cowards. I dont have any other word besides the word coward. They are afraid to do the job that has to be done. I want to raise something our buddy andy mccarthy, well known to fox viewers and an attorney, former federal prosecutor in new york. Something he wrote. He said thepresident had the constitutional power to restore order. In his piece at National Review capacity, conveying the message that lawswill not be enforced if provocative. Its gotten worse because state governments failedto convey the signal that order will be maintained and the rule of law and force. We talked about what a difficult decision this is for Police Commissioners and for governors to find this lineto respecting the Peaceful Protesters who very much grievances related to george floyd and way beyond. Versus the people who may come to leverage this unrest for their own nefarious bowls and motives. How in the World Leaders make these decisions to balance all thesecompeting interests and shut the violence down . How does that get done . I dont think theres anybody better than any mccarthy to makethat statement to look at this stuff. I also understand the president s problem and the problem is these people, the people that areresponsible for these cities these states , theyre the mayors and governors. Not the president. The president not ultimately responsible. He could do it do what mccarthy said hes trying to get the mayors andgovernors to do their job. Its their job. I think eventually it maycome to pass the president going tohave to basically say if you cannot do it , im going to do it. An enormous amount of manpower into those cities. I would just hope that i want to touch on one last thing he said with his super important. Towardfloyd , he should be the focus of the protests. He should be a focus of peaceful protests. People want to go out there and protesting peace, thats fine but the second there is force used, the second it turns violent, then you got to clear the streets. Nobody stays on the streets. You cantstand and say are you peaceful . Or are you not . Are you doing hereyou cant do that. Once a peaceful protest goes badits over. To clear the street to get people out of your because if you dont this is what happens. Former Police Commissioner bernie , bernie kerik, these are images from saturday in new york. Were going to keep an eye on new york. Coasttocoast. With reporters onthe ground and unfortunately seems like this one. Were going to take you through atlanta when we get back next after a quick break. Than even the leading multibenefit toothpaste. Crest. Moms love that land o frost premium sliced meats have no byproducts. [conference phone] baloney [conference phone] has joined the call. Hey baloney here. I thought this was a no byproducts call . Land o frost premium. A slice above. Monitoring efforts to prepare for an evening where is 8 30 on the west coast. To see what is going to happen there tonight, theres been a lot of activity on the west coast. Its across the country and youre lookingthere now. An aerial shot as we know Law Enforcement is getting into place, getting ready , preparing will be tough for them tonight while its still daylight. We continue to monitor their in the west coast as we have in california as well as there areongoing protests and riots and we will keep you updated in portlandbut now we want to take you to jonathan in atlanta where hes been monitoring things for several days now. Whats the mood tonight . Right now very quiet. You see the Police Presence here, many of them wrapping up and fanning out to other areas of the city but look at this intersectionof marietta and centennial olympic park. This was ground zero for much of the vandalism that took place friday. Some large protests on saturday and even this evening some bottle throwing and fireworks launching later tonight but very quickly police were able to suppress this crowd to get them to leave with tear gas and quickly clear this area but it hasnt been all smooth sailing for the Atlanta Police department. They released some video. Take a look at this, body cam video from officers removing two black collegestudents from a car last night. The students, a young man and young woman were out past curfew last nightbut were apparentlynot participating in demonstrations. The mayor, police chief and other city officials reviewed the video. They decided this constituted Excessive Force and fired two officers immediately and placed three other officers on desk duty as they decide whether they should face some sort ofdisciplinary action and the police chief issued this apology , take a listen. I know we caused further fear to you in a space thats already so fearful for so many africanamericans and i am genuinely sorry. This is not whowe are. This is not what we are about. So an apology not just to the students who were involved but to students pulled out of the car but to theafricanamerican community and to the atlantic humidity at large. Another difficulty the Police Department faced was about this time last night there was a line of Police Officers right here at this intersection and then a young man on an atv who whizzed by them in this direction , made auturn , went in this opposite direction and a block down thestreet and officer on foot tried to stop the atv. The atv struck the officer, seriously injuring the officer. He was taken to the op hospital. The mayor updated us on the officers condition, said he underwent emergency surgery this morning and isrecovering in the intensive care unit at grady hospital. Back to you. Jonathan live on the scene in atlanta. Were going totake you back across the country including the fires in the Nations Capital near the white house after a quick break. All right, lets do it. Yeah. laughing welcome back to our extended live coverage tonight, youre looking live in minneapolis where much of this has been the worst over the last few nights. This started lastweek, monday with the death of george floyd at the hands of the minneapolis Police Officer, that officer arrested and charged with murder, manslaughter. Not his family, the family of george floyd and others think those charges need to be elevated and additional officers charged. Were standing by as the attorney general said tonight theyre going as swiftly as they can and there will be justice and federal Authorities Say they are looking into the potential for additional crime tothe state crimes there with the officer who has been arrested and others who may be involved. I want to bring in minnesota congressman petestauber who is was at one time part of the police force. Great to be with you tonight. Give me your assessment as a member of congress who is watching this happen but also somebody who has been on the street as a policeofficer and where we are tonight in this country. Ive spent 23 years as a Law Enforcement officer and i think were seeing tragic events going around now in the state of minnesota and our nation and we looked at thedeath of george floyd , its just a tragedy. Theres nothing i saw in that video that i would everstand for as all Law Enforcement officer and the men and women in minnesota agree with that. We need some healingin this country. I think its important to recognize that asPolice Officers , the vast majority of the men and women in blue and brown do a wonderful job and this is a tragic and unfortunate incident. Ive got members of my family have served in Law Enforcement and there are a lot of folks out there who risk their lives and say goodbye to loved ones hoping they never have to be involved withthe death of a suspect or anyoneelse. They choose to do this voluntarily to serve and protect their communities and now they areput in a position where they are in a tenuous place tonight. You say we have to get to a place of healing and how we start that conversation and how do we get there . One of the things i did as a Police Officer, i was a policing expert and i always said we dont police our community, we police with our community and thats been an Important Note as we go forward. We have to understand that we police with our community and that trust and building relationships is important for an effective policing program and an effective Police Department. When you look tonight at the street and this is another scene in minneapolis and the last three nights that we have watched weve had reporters on the ground, they have stood by as fires broke out,as the first precinct in minneapolis was evacuated for the safety of those officers then. Attacked and looted and set on fire and we saw the fifth precinct alsofacing similar trouble on fridaynight , third precinct on friday night. It seems a different mood tonight at least where this is in minneapolis and thats a whole other layer to the thing. How do these agencies Work Together where it appears at least for now there is some calm restored . Thats a good thing to happen but i will say shannon that theres going to be after action reports on how the state of minnesota and elected leaders took charge or lackthereof and i think were going to find that theres somefailure of leadership at all levels. When i first saw that video , i knew that there was going to be some stuff like this happening, protests and its unfortunate because we always defend Police Officers, always defended the First Amendment rights of people to protest but when it becomes criminal , when the police andeven the Peaceful Protesters get hit with rocks and bottles and get attacked , thats not who we are as americans and thats not who we are as minnesotans. We will always protect the First Amendment right to peacefully protest but not to become criminals and Looting Stores and burning businessesthese small Business Owners , their whole life savings is in these businesses and theres many of them that wont come back unfortunately, shannon. Especially those trying to hold on through covid were struggling and theres one story we told as wewatched minneapolis of a firefighter there , a minority Business Owner who had put everything into opening a business and had to delay the opening because of covid and then had his business destroyed. His wife said its been completely demolished and they did not have insurance and she heard some of the protesters and rioters and looters were yelling basically at the Business Owners, theyve got insurance. Thats not always the case and when you look at how much damage has been done in minneapolis, how does that city begin to rebuild both physically and emotionally and as a community . I saw the story about that sports bar owner too. Thats a tragic, very sad. They put their entire life savings into it. That was what they wanted to do and unfortunately these criminals and looters burned down, burned to the ground and its unfortunate so healing has to start with dialogue and understanding that our commonalities far outweigh our differences and wetalked earlier, youre going to see changes i think with respect to the minneapolis Police Department and some of their trainings and some of their leadership. I believe as they go Forward Community will heal only through good dialogue and working with each other and understanding the strengths and weaknesses of not only the Police Department but the citizens themselves and ive said it once, ill say it again. You dont police your community, you police with your community and thats important because that brings the trust and i think thats where we can start but this criminal behavior not only in minneapolis butacross the great cities in this country , thats not who we are and this is certainly not who minnesota is. And its not representative i think of the people trying to bring attention to the george floyd case and cases beyond that and we talked tonight a lot about a lot of worry people have that their message has been hijacked with people who dont share their message of trying to draw attention. These are often badactors who arent even from these areas who are beingarrested with drivers licenses from places far away and theyve shown up to leverage the chaos for their own good. I want to talk about reading something , this comes from benjaminhalf. Hes a former army intel officer himself. It works in National Security and we talked about this idea of having a heavier presence of National Guard in what appears to be military equipment in the streets and the worry people have about that. The optics of it. Benjamin says even if involving theactiveduty military is legal and the circumstances demand for the resources it may not be wise as a matter of policy and optics putting soldiers into a politically charged Law Enforcement context is a sensitive matter. Weve asked the question how do these leaders, these governors balance those interests so as not to inflame the situation but as it appears to be working at this moment in minneapolis tonight , having a stronger presence there in the field , callingthe unnecessary violence and criminal activity. First off you have to stop the criminal activity. You have to stop polluting, the burning, the assault. You have to stop that and then you go from there and there is strength in both the National Guard and additional Police Officers in the community. Look at the families. Look at the children affected by this. The single moms and single fathers. Look whats happening and look with their seeing and look how they are to the city that they love so you have to have the strength and courage to stop the behavior and then you Start Building trust and im afraid that some of these neighborhoods, some of these awesome neighborhoods in downtownminneapolis are going to be changed forever and some of these stores im afraid wont be ever opened again. Its going to change the dynamics and the look of that community unfortunately. No doubt these communities will be scarred in many ways when this calm down and begin the process of rebuilding. Pete stauber, a Police Officer with many years on the streets. We wishyou all the best as people try to find healing on a number of levels tonight so thank you for joining us. Thank you, keep minnesota and this country in your prayers. We do and we will and also in our prayers washington dc where kevin cork has been on the ground for hours covering the situation and this is very different than what we had an hour or so ago from you when we were talking about this curfewkicking in by orderof the mayor whose declared an emergency and at 11 pm eastern seen a lot of havoc in downtown dc a block away from the white house. Fires burning, destruction underway. Youve backed off from that perimeter so a lot of emergency vehicles operating there tonight. What is the latestfrom that area . Very interesting shannon, im showing you pictures of a veritable convoy of washington metropolitan Police Departments coming this way. They literally i was going to say about seven or eight , 11 vehicles plus additional cruisers. Were talking about a lot of bands. Im not sure if thats our curfew patrol. We will find out together probably in short order. You can probably hear crosstalk behind me, theres protesters stillwanting to be heard. Theyrehere, theyre out late and they want to be heard and they also want people to know why they are taking to the streets in washington dc. As you mentioned earlier we saw devastating pictures across from the white house. Unfortunately for the city and the nation , this will take time to heal and take time to repair. Weve seen spray paint everywhere, brokenglass and assorted fires. The fire that we showed you earlier in the Parish Office at st. Johns church down in the basement it appeared to be a nursery. Apparently the fire has been extinguished by dcs bravest. That is very good news for everyone whos been watching our coverage tonight. Quiet streets on the side of the building, where on the treasury side of the white house complex and we hope things calm down as the night goes on. Thats good news about st. Johns. We talked about what a historic landmark that is and how every president since James Madison has visited there. It is a place many of those president shave sought refuge. They have sought spiritual guidancein the countrys darkest moments and we just thank god tonight those firefighters are safe and they were able to preserve that little bit of history that isimportant in washington. Standby and i want to bring in attorney and retired homicide detective from washington had williams still with us. It looks like the streets have been quieted tonight , it seemed like an hour ago it was going to be tough to get there but now it seems like we have a lowland the storm, what are your thoughts . Thats very good news and i certainly hope that the plan that the metropolitan Police Department along with the other federal agencies have put in place will quell the crowd but ive been through this rodeo before in washington dc and elsewhere and i can tell you that theres always planning in these groups and the two groups that im concerned mostabout is on the left but on the right you have something called the Boogaloo Boys and those are the two groups that there are troubles and get these individuals derived and moving the directions they want to move. I just hope that the metropolitan Police Department now can take control. I am elated to hear that the st. Johns church is not up inflames. Absolutely. So this is it for tonight and listen, were all on guard. We are all on alert as im sure Law Enforcement across the country is tonight but we saw this start peacefully during the day today as it should, people marching in the streets of washington as they often do. How does the cityprepare for tomorrow night . You mentioned that you thought the curfew started way too light. 11 00, you dont put our curfew in place. It is my belief that you should put curfew in place before it gets dark. That is where Law Enforcement is at its strength and in areas where Law Enforcement can go in and control various areas but you cant wait until the dead of night. The congressman was excellent in what he said and that is the policedepartment and the citizens , the other cities, they get together they make variousdecisions within that city. Youve got quite a few community organizers. Youve got preachers and members of the clergy in these communities and they could be very beneficial in bringing about harmony to the city. Ted, if youll stay with us we got a few minutes left in our live coverage for we turn it over to the west coast where it will continue because there is activity across the country and i want to go back to kevin cork was on the street and it sounds like good news that people were able to get through the fire crews , police have been able to push people back from the white house where its been a problem the last couple of nights where showing video from earlier when the streets in dc were full of people. Some of them looking peaceful and holding signs. Others obviously as we got into thenight criminal activities in my and carry that out what is your sense there, the mood where you are . What the dramatic difference shannon a few hours can make you you mentioned earlier we saw families and senior citizens, young people all here to express their disappointment and obviously in many ways their rage and what happened to george floyd but as it turned the night fall as we anticipated, things got really bad quickly. I want to share video we took earlier, a number of fires not just along h but all around the white house complex in various points and in various times through the evening they did their best to push the crowd back off of h street. I know you and i spoke earlier they tried to move the crowd over on age and eventually past age and ive got to tell you ,as they moved the crowd , pockets of people with individually maybe in groups of two or sometimes five would set fire you orbreak up and start smashing windows which we saw a number of buildings around the area. Really sad because ultimately , we are all one American Family and we respect the right of individuals to protest and to have their voices heard but what is not respectful is to take something that was awful, that was terrible that happened and turn it into just one thing destruction which is what we saw her in the Nations Capital area and i can report that in fact ill step out your, you can still see a staging area, lots of dc metropolitan police. We justsaw about a dozen bands and Police Cruisers all headed towards the white house complex. It is past curfew and were still seeing fire trucks move around trying to shut off the streets one by one or in groups. My hope and im sure the hope of the metropolitan police is that theyre going to be able to quell what has been a very violent and at times incredibly dangerous night here in the Nations Capital shannon. Youve done an amazing job up there on the ground, if youll stick around i want to bring volume 2nd to continue thisdiscussion so ted , you and i know anyone who knows anything about this country knows theres a longhistory of peaceful protest in dc , also some really painful times that look a lot like what we saw tonight ryans fire that destroyed portions of the city. Ive got to imagine this is the kind of thing that the Police Department trained for all thetime and we talked about how many Different Police departments there are your in washington. Adderall protected agencies as well read how you get ready for a night like this . The good thing about metropolitan Police Department is you have already referenced it shannon. They had many demonstrations in the nation capital and they had to operate under severe circumstances. I have to believe that you need better intelligence in place because again, youve got a lot ofoutside groups coming in. Also as i said without being redundant theres a need for earlier curfew. Theres indeed not only to run to the white house, like theyre running in that direction, they need to understand what these groups are doing is theyre wreaking havoc inone area and then theyre going to another area. Now they have initially concentrated on thewhite house , the next thing you know theyre headed towards the capitalor other mental building. So what is needed here is for more of a Law Enforcement, political leaders. The president on down to get together and bring this to some conclusion not only in washington dc but all over thecountry and id like to just say this enclosing look. Law enforcement or notthe enemy of the people. Weve had yes, some bad apples in Law Enforcement and we need to weed those bad apples out but we need Law Enforcement officers in order to survive in our community. So i would think and you need better Law Enforcement officers, they run to the danger, not from the danger. You referenced the minnesota congressman style her that we had on a few minutes ago, obviously heartbroken over minneapolis and beyond talking about the fact when he was an officer on the street for a long time, years and years that he said it was important to police with your community, not thepolice your community. We justhave a few seconds left but how well you think that message will get through . Its an important one because a lot of people dont feel that way about lawenforcement in this community. Their policing them but theyre not policing with them. I think withall thats going on , the habit isbeing reached all over the country that signal may be more crystallized and create clear where it is thatwhether the president can get together with members of the community , bring them onto the white house , talk to them and let them help him to Police America and keep america strong.
