I changed my daily routine just like many of you have. And im miserable like many of you probably are. March madness to the masters, from kindergarten to college, students being sent home. Events canceled. Airports limited, broadway gone dark. All the news is dispe is dissp. Our determination and perseverance are hallmarks of who we are and from whence we came. We batten down the hatches until life rushes to normal. We learn and practice sacrifice. Like our families have for generations. Well now practice social distancing. Ultimately, no land crowds, no upping, no hugging. Spending more type alone as experts hope to plant the curve to flatten the curve of the virus. This will take selfdiscipline and control. We have to buckle up and tough it out. And looking back at this, it will be just a blip on the screen of life. How to do that . Stay busy and keep calm. I watched people panicking in a supermarket. Panic is a waste of energy and is exhausting. This is the time for kindness and grace and generosity. Are there Senior Citizens that you know who cant get to a Grocery Store or cowho could use a hope cooked meal you are probably making more of these days . And you must be informed about this virus. You cannot be copy sent. While children dont seem to be affected, kids can be carriers who with just a simple hug or kiss to grandma can pass something that may be harmless to the child but lethal to the older person. Pitch in. It will make you feel better. We saw it just yesterday as the giants in the private sector stepped up with the president. Walmart, walgreens, cvs and more who stepped up to help us get through this, ebb though they know they will take a financial hit. Like them we need to be Strong Enough to know what we face and Strong Enough to understand what we need to do about it. As the experts continue their mission. I wonder how much of us will use this time to examine our lives and assess what really is important. One minute we are enjoying the bounties of life, then like a thunderbolt, our lives are suddenly changed. Maybe just maybe we are blessed with a time for introspection. Thank you for being here. You had a significant press conference. One of the things that appears to have changed is the issue of testing. Can you explain who can get testing on how it is available to . Jerome thank you for your opening. The w. H. O. Declared a pandemic friday. We had the president declare a National Emergency which will provide flexibility and opportunity for providers and patients. The house yesterday agreed in a bipartisan way on a bill that will empower americans and provide Additional Support for those who need to stay home if they are sick. Those who need to selfquarantine and families of those staying home from school. You asked about testing. I want to say there have been problems with testing. Tony fauci said it, i said it. But we feel we are in a good place through partnership with the private industries. In our country the cdc was never designed to provide testing for hundreds of millions of people. We always knew if we were going to be in the situation we would have to rely on the ingenuity and the innovation and the talent in the private sector. Tomorrow at 5 00 p. M. , the Vice President will be leading a News Conference talking about the progress we made on testing. And also state and local entities. There is a hotline on the fda website for labs to call into. A lot of these labs that could have been doing testing didnt have the information they needed. So i feel a lot better about the direction we are going into. Its not mission accomplished, but know we are leaning into this. Judge jeanine when the president announced the Publicprivate Partnership with walgreens and cvs, where they will give a portion of their parking lots and whatever is they agreed on. Do you envision a time when americans will be able to go through a drivethru where they can be tested . Jerome we hope they will be able to get testing results in their Home Communities and get testing back quickly. We are not south korea. We dont have top to bottom control oh a lot of our healthcare sectors. So we rely on the private market. This isnt like a strep test where you can imoin to the Minute Clinic and get the results back in a halfhour. This is a 46 hour test that you have to send to a lab. In cases its taking one to two days to continue around on that. So we are leading into this complicated bacterial process with many commit thes from the private industry. We are leaning into this and more people are getting tested every day. Judge jeanine 98 to 99 of the people who contract the virus will recover. Social distancing and mitigation is part of the cure. And your prescription which you were clear on today, you said know your risk, and get the facts to protect yourselves. I believe americans are truly listening. But one of the things you said today which i thought was fascinating. You talked to people about leaning in and talked about prioritizing the health and safety. No more bickering or finger pointing. Just hit the reset button. I was cheering you on. I think the finger pointing thats been going on when we are dealing with something new, something we never dealt with before. Something we are not built to deal with. You came out and said enough. Lets just do it. There was a wonderful tweet i saw earlier where Ted Cruz Retweeted aocs tweet. And folks are starting to come together. We are at a critical Inflection Point where we need to flatten the curve. If we want to look more like south korea with a lower mortality rate. Or like italy. We need everyone to understand we are not going to solve this problem from washington, d. C. Or the cdc in atlanta. It will be solved at the Community Level and solved by people coming together. I want people to use their Energy Particularly in the next to you critical weeks and push the information out to people so they can protect themselves. You can wash your hands and social distance and stay home. We need to lean into protecting our most vulnerable. Especially the elderly because we know they are most at risk. When it comes to social distancing, if you are 30, if you are 20, if you are 15, we arent doing these things so top protect you because you are at low risk but we are doing it to protect your grandmother, our nana, our pop pop. Your auntie and uncle. We need to lean into these social distancing measures. Coronavirus. Gov for how you can be part of the solution. Judge jeanine we have 300 Million People in this country. Do we actually there is not a cure. Lets assume we find out someone tests positive, what then . An important part about testing. We brought this up today during the press conference. If you have respiratory symptoms and you have a fever, you probably have an Infectious Disease of so of some kind. Its more likely to be the flu than the coronavirus. But either way you shouldnt be around people. We are still going to say go hope, stay away from other people so you dont get them sick. The testing will allow us to do more surveillance. Yesterday you talked about that when you were talking on the show good morning, arizona. You were frustrated about the testing. As a result of the president s press conference what do you think about that today. Martha like many of us we were frustrated with the slow rollout of the testing kit. I appreciate the president s announcement working with the Publicprivate Partnerships to increase capabilities. In arizona the testing capability is there with the state labs, mayo, labcorp. But the disconnect is between who is going to take the sample. We have some providers who are not comfortable doing that. The ability to take the swab and get to the lab. We are going to seal this up and look for greater opportunities to get this opportunity out faster to our state. Judge jeanine you are saying you have the testing kit but you need reagent . Then who reads it . Martha the testing availability is at the say the lab. Its also sat mayo and quest and labcorp like everybody else. But connecting that to where people are going to get swabbed. Some providers are not comfortable to do it. But we want to make sure we have a smooth understanding of where you go, how you get, and trying to relax the rules for the state lab. So its not just for people month have traveled to a highrisk area. I asked for we are asking for a relaxation of that as well. We are getting there, but we are not there yet. Judge jeanine yesterday the president did something i thought extremely creative. The Publicprivate Partnership that is a way of cutting through the bureaucracy. How will that work in your state . Martha i think its a great initiative. We are waiting to hear back when this is going to be deployed in arizona so my constituents who are concerned can get tested. More to follow on how that will roll out around the country and our state. I applaud the innovative approach to get past the bureaucracy and bring in that private sector. Judge jeanine monday when you go back to washington, it appears you will have a bill that passed the house saturday morning, late friday night. The president tweeted, do it asap. Do you think there will be any trouble getting that thing to fast getting that coronavirus bill to pass the senate . I called on Mitch Mcconnell and nancy pelosi to cancel recess next week. Mitch heard the call. We are heading back. Lets get a final bill on the president s desk. Its the right thing to do on Small Businesses and individuals work paycheck to paycheck. The Economic Impact is serious. We need to make sure we blunt the blow and we get through this as a society because well. America is the best. Well get through it. But if we can pass something that helps people stay home if they are sick and not worry about paying the rent. Its the right thing to do and more probably needs to be done. President trump yesterday i declared a National Emergency which was a big deal it opened up after news we wouldnt be able to open up without it. It will make more than 50 billion available available immediately in Disaster ReliefFunds Available or states, territories and local governments. That was really good. We also reached an agreement yesterday on a new legislative package that will provide strong support for American Families and communities in dealing with the coronavirus. So it was done very, very bipartisan. Judge jeanine joining me now to discuss more details, Kellyanne Conway. Thanks for being with us. When talking about the Families FirstCoronavirus Response act with senator mcsally. As we go through this, there are certain questions and one generic. The test availability. Can someone give me a definitive answer on that . Kellyanne yes. In the last 36 hours there has again an acceleration of the testing aveiled availability. The availability. The president made it clear that tomorrow night you will have more detail on when you can expect to go to your doctor or the parking lots of the retailers, walmart, cvs, riteaid and the like. If you are one of the drythrews it will make a tremendous difference. In south korea they were able to test 200,000 people with symptoms and they came back with 3. 6 with the coronavirus and a low mortality rate. Thats not apples to apples. But the more testing we have the more well know about the spread. I think really important and lost in the conversation is the Economic Relief and responsiveness in this package yesterday that secretary mnuchin negotiated. The paid family medical leave is huge, jeanine. It impacts everyone. You can get paid family leave even if you currently dont have such a policy. If you are missing work you get it. If you are missing work because you are help something one else who is quarantined or affected by the virus. Even though you are not directly impacted you can access that family leave. Judge jeanine if you are taking care of your niece, you can get that paid family leave. Kellyanne you can access it. We are responding to the new realities. I listened to your open with great interest and curiosity. I think you hit it. This is the new normal. But its temporary. I tell my children, you have to make sacrifices. Its not permanent. Judge jeanine how many children do you have, kellyanne. Kellyanne four. Judge jeanine people are talking about how do you talk to your children and explain it without scaring them. But kids can be carriers. The chances are they wont be really sick but they can bring something home to someone who is elderly. Kellyanne thats right. Youth seems to be a protective shield. But grandma was afraid to get johnny sick. Its the opposite now. What happens in many circumstances in families, if you need to go to work and your child noise longer in school and school is closed, you bring them to grandma and grandpa to help you out. We are not advising that necessarily because brands ma may be at risk because grandma may be at risk. That allows a lot of money for this. And this package has nutritional assistance. Anybody who is food insecure. Some of our low income women and children, some of our veterans, ourle our elderly. We are telling them to limit their contact with the outside world. They may need assistance with meals and meal delivery. These are practical solutions. President trump wants to respond to that. He wants to be on the front line to the help this country deal with whats happening right now step prayerly. Judge jeanine the whole right now temporarily. Judge jeanine the wholed in of the nutrition. The collection of people who will be affected. Its all encompassing. Its a great opportunity that we are seeing that we are getting this stuff passed and done so quickly. The next question. The same thing with student loan debt. Thats a big dale for folks who have so many things to worry about at this moment. Just lifting the regulatory burdens so the centers for Medicare Services can do things without the red tape is so important. Along with the guidance they are given. They direct america, unless its end of life moments in hospice care, dont advise it nursing homes. Those folks are really at risk. Cdc. Gov has a list of things you can point out. You ask as a mother. As a daughter of an elderly mother who lives with us. You i have been incredibly concerned about her. We are talking about the direct stakeholders and the shareholders in the concentric circles around them. You live in an Apartment Building in new york city. What are you supposed to do, wash down the buttons and the microwave. If grandma hits it and the kids hit it. You go to a gas. Youve, a Dunkin Donuts or mcdonalds, i shouldnt mention the company. Is it clean . Dr. Marc siegel you cant stop going to these places entirely. We need to wash our hands frequently. We have to be aware of what we touched and when we touched it. And that might be a signal its time to use the purell and wash your hands again. Up not going to tell people not to go to Dunkin Donuts. Kindness, grace and generosity. Look at the elderly and the high risk groups. We are going to get through this, judge. Judge jeanine we all know it will get worse before it gets better. Dr. Fauci talked about that low incliens opposed to that high peak. But there are 300 any americans. And we dont there are 300 million americans. If we test someone and they have it, what do we do for them . Is there a cure . Dr. Marc siegel once we know who has the virus and who doesnt. Then we know who we need to stay away from, who needs to be quarantined, who we need to bid alternative facilities to. The thing thats ramping up the fear is people dont know who has it and who doesnt. We have to get to the point where we have a rapid enough test, hopefully well get one in the next few days. We can test people and say we dont have the virus. Go about your life. Judge jeanine if i dont have the virus today, it doesnt mean i wont have it top. Its like a temporary i defeated it. You can get it until we get a vaccine. You are always going to be vulnerable. Dr. Marc siegel we joe exaggerate how long you could be carrying it without having it. Most of the type thats four or five days. We always say two weeks to be on the safe side. But if you are feeling fine and you dont have the shortness of breath and be fatigue and fever. You dont have it. You may be carrying it for four, five, six days. Its not like you are a walking time bomb with this. Most people dont have it. Judge jeanine i hear south korea is using antiviral treatments. Dr. Marc siegel breaking news on this. No one is talking about this. South korea has tried using zinc and chloriquim. Remdesivir. And there are tests for it that are in the pipeline. Genetic testing, all of this coming down the pipe in the next few weeks. Judge jeanine in addition to not just separating someone who tests positive for the virus. We have to treat them, too. I want them to be better. Doctors have to be in the loop. If i tell you not to go to the hospital, you still call me and ill tell you how severe your symptoms are. And maybe you do need the hospital. Judge jeanine dr. Marc siegel. Thanks. But stay here. Lets get some perspective on some of the steps the administration has taken from former congressman Jason Chaffetz. There was some criticism against the administration and against the president. It was the president at the end of january said well have to stop the flights coming in from china and prevent the foreign nationals from coming in. And the president is trying to work this publicprivate and ship to make sure we get all the testing. Its clear this isnt going to happen through normal government channels. What say you about all of this . Jason it was not palatable for the president to limit travel from china before the wuhan virus or how you want to refer to it was in the public consciousness, yet he did it. Thats what donald trump has done each step of the way. The fact they are now introduction and implementing these Publicprivate Partnerships, it didnt happen by flipping a switch. It happened because they laid the ground work for months beforehand and then they were able to execute on it. There is a reason why our deathle toll and those infected is so much smaller as a percentage from so many other countries who didnt take decisive action. Judge jeanine one of the things they talked about at one of the press conferences. Chad wolf from Homeland Security says regarding the restrictions on the flights. He said the restrictions dont apply to shipping and cargo. Does that make sense to you . Jason it does. We dont have in this country an entryexit proper that logs when you leave or enter the country as ridiculous as that seems. Donald trump has done more than any other president to try to implement it but it was always stymied by the previous administrations. Cargo is done totally separately. They are supposed to inspect 100 , they dont do it. But we need the flow of goods coming into our service and discuss tops and Border Patrol folks. They have a big task at hand, but its dealt with separately and i think thats appropriate. Judge jeanine it frightens me that all of this stuff is coming in. You said they cant check 100 of whats coming in. Congress never funded it fully. They never tried to implement it fully. We have better relationships with south korea than we do anything coming out of shanghai. That cargo cops in and then it cargo comes in and then it continues on and most of it does not get checked. Judge jeanine lets listen to this sound from Chuck Schumer. Despite donald trump under playing the crisis, pointing fingers of blame, almost irrationally, not knowing the facts, not even stating the truth, he had to go along with what congress wanted. Question is we have been told the upcoming warm weather will kill the virus. So why is it spreading in tropical areas. Dr. Marc siegel it is not spreading in africa and south america. There isnt a lot of cases in australia. There is about 200. We are seeing it in areas where its not their summer. High humidity and heat, and a lot of ultraviolet light are conditions most respiratory viruses, including coronavirus do not do well in. So we are hoping for a seasonal change. Judge jeanine high humidity and light. Dr. Marc siegel it doesnt travel well in high humidity and ultraviolet light kills it. Judge jeanine is it okay to have family visit my 73yearold healthy mom at her home . Can necessity hug grandma . Dr. Marc siegel lets do an elbow bump with grands ma. You have got to see grandma. She doesnt have emphysema. You dont cough on her. Judge jeanine respiratory problems. Dr. Marc siegel compromise from cancer or underlying conditions. Especially emphysema. Judge jeanine can you get the virus more than once. Which is a followup to what i said. Even though you test negative, can you get it . Dr. Marc siegel i dont think so. Most of the time you will develop an immunity from this virus. The strains look narrowly different. We dont have a bunch of different strains like we do with the flu. You might have a cycle where you get sick again. A recurrence of symptoms, but when you are cured, you are cured. Judge jeanine how do you get cured . There isnt a cure . Dr. Marc siegel having had the infection and having been exposed to it, you will develop an immunity after you had the disease. Thats hopeful because that will spread immunity around the community over time. Judge jeanine question number four. I understand we should quarantine for 14 days if infected. But at what point do we need to seek help at a hospital . Dr. Marc siegel thats a good point. Because hospitals will get overloaded. The Surgeon General said he wants elective cases deferred. Call your doctor, say what your symptoms are. Let me decide whether you need hospital or not. Let me decide whether its that severe or you can wait it out at home. Judge jeanine can you go to the gym and spin class . Whats safe . Dr. Marc siegel i am still going to the gym. Judge jeanine when do you go to the gym . Dr. Marc siegel im going tonight. But im going to use the clorox wise. You leave them on the surface for four minutes while they dry. You will kill the viruses on your elliptical. Judge jeanine should you be wearing gloves at the gym . Dr. Marc siegel we are getting to that point. I would say still not yet. And stay away from people sneezing or causing. But use the sanitizers.
