Koreas nuclear ambition. President trump i addressed the National Assembly in seoul, south korea and urged every responsible nation to stand united in declaring that every single step the north korean regime takes toward more weapons is a step it takes into greater and greater danger. The future of this region and its Beautiful People must not be held hostage to a dictators twisted fantasies of violent conquest and nuclear blackmail. Jon amy kellogg is reporting live from danang, vietnam. This is a city known for the beach landings of marines during the vietnam war and this, jon, being veterans day observed this stop of the trip was very symbolic. Millions of vietnamese died in the ward and 60,000 u. S. Troops died in the war. This is the first sitting american president to come here since the end of the vietnam war. Really, this was the moment that grabbed all of the headlines. The spotlight this evening. The handshake between president s trump and putin at the Asia Pacific Economic conference. Trump has said he sought putins audience and help on the north korea issue but so far no formal meeting has been managed to be put into schedules. It will be very interesting to see what comes of any possible encounters and casual ones that happen here. Trumps speech at apec was wide ranging today. He praised the economies of the region and in the sense of his own America First policy appealed to other leaders to protect what they each do best. President trump so let us choose a future of patriotism, prosperity and pride. Let us choose wealth and freedom over poverty and servitude. Let us choose a free and open and let us never forget the world has many places [applause] many dreams, and many roads. But in all of the world, there is no place like home. Amidst all of the focus on this trip on north korea and unfair trade practices, vietnam, the host of this summit, is hoping that the u. S. Wont lighten pressure up on china to stop its expansion in the south china sea. Vietnam looks to the United States as a sort of bull wark against china. Despite the war vietnam has a higher Approval Rating of the u. S. And President Trump than most other nations in the world. Trump is kind of aspirational for them. Most vietnamese grew up poor and they want to be rich and they look at donald trump and they see this is what i want. President trump will spend one more day here in vietnam before he moves on to the philippines, jon, the final stop of the his asia trip. Jon how things have changed in our relations with that country. Amy kellogg, thank you. Melissa dueling tax plans as the senate gop unveils a tax bill of its own. One that has stark contrasts with the house bill. Some of the most notable changes include the number of tax brackets, seven. The senate bill keeps it at seven, which is what we have now actually. The house cuts them to four. The senate wants to double estate tax exception. The house bill eventually gets rid of it all together. Both chambers finding Common Ground on the Corporate Tax rate slashing it to 20 bust a big difference. The senate wants to delay the cut for a year. State and local Tax Deductions they would be completely scrapped under the senate bill. The house plan modifies them. So lets bring in glen hall, chief editor for the dow jones news wire. Thanks for joining us. You know, President Trump resonated with his supporters were big and simple. The wall and crush isis. This tax plan is complicated and its small changes. Does this do the trick . Does it resonate with his supporters . It is a complicated calculus. On the one hand we want to make sure they dont alienate voters going into the midterms but want the legislative victory within the constraint of the budget bill theyre working through which limits the cost to 1. 5 trillion. And cutting the Corporate Tax rate alone eats up most of that. They have a lot of give and take in terms of funding the other cuts that they want to do and thats what this is all about. Melissa you know, republicans may have a tough time selling this if it ends up being some combination of this if you think about congressman peter king. He is like how do i go back to my district and a lot of my people will end up seeing their tax bill higher, bigger. And here i am a republican and ill say guess what, it was worth it because we had this historic tax change that will be great. Sorry, your taxes are going up. He said my constituents will think im nuts. He is right, isnt he . Yes. Its particularly difficult in the high tax states like new york, new jersey and california. If they eliminate the deduction for the state income taxes and property taxes and all that it becomes a problem in terms of selling it. On the other hand theyre looking to be able to double the standard deduction and eliminate the need for all these itemized deductions. Theyre trying to sell a simplification. Its a complex message. Melissa especially after the senate came out yesterday it felt whatever editorial page you were looking at or whatever social media you were looking at, a lot of people were disappointed saying wow, you went from seven brackets to seven brackets. Thats really you must have worked really hard on that. It didnt feel like the sweeping historic change that the president had promised. What do you think is the best course of action for republicans if their concern is, you know, their own livelihood, their own ability to keep their job, which i think is probably a lot of their concern. Whats the best outcome from here in your opinion . Well, i think you have stressed a lot of differences but it is important to recognize they are united around some of these fundamental issues. Both chambers want to reduce the Corporate Tax rate to 20 . Both want to eliminate the alternative minimum tax. They want to double the standard deduction. There is a lot they agree on and a lot of different ways to make sure they dont get branded as having harmed the middle class through all of this and helped the wealthy class. So thats what theyre working through. But i think they both know what is at stake here in terms of the midterms. Its bigger challenge if they dont accomplish anything than if they do. Melissa i think the frustration you hear from a lot of voters out there is when you say why cant you cut taxes more, they say they are constrained by these rules. And you sort of think to yourself arent you guys the ones that right and make up the rules and now you are saying youre handcuffed by the rules . Its a group of people that are befuddled by problems they created and it feels swamplike. The definition of the swamp. In many wales theyre constrained by the limit of their majority in senate and house. They have two votes to spare and thats where these rules come in. Theyre trying to do it in a way through reconciliation of the budget deal that lets them only have to get the simple majority. If they were to go a broader path they would have to bring on democrats in the senate in particular they have to get up to 60 votes and they dont have the numbers. Melissa glen hall, you do a good job explaining it. We appreciate your time. Thank you. Jon there are more tensions in the middle east. Kuwait now joining a list of countries calling for its citizens to get out of lebanon. As a rift grows between beirut and saudi arabia. Rich is here to explain whats happening. Behind this like many of the conflicts in the middle is the proxy fight between saudi arabia and iran. Saudi arabia claims that hezbollah is consuming the government of lebanon and ordering saudi nationals living in lebanon to leave the country as soon as possible. Earlier this week saudi arabia claimed hezbollahs influence in lebanons politics is essentially an act of war. Traveling in asia secretary of state Rex Tillerson spoke about this saying were watching it very carefully and encouraging support for the legitimate government of lebanon and asking other outside parties the stay out of it to the extent there is foreign presence there whether its iran, syria or wherever it might be from those forces need to depart and leave. Last week the saudibacked Prime Minister resigned and did so from saudi arabia. The Associated Press reports hezbollahs leader in lebanon says saudi arabia forced lebanons Prime Minister to resign and that the saudis are holding him there against his will. Secretary tillerson said he spoke to his saudi counterpart and they assured him the former Prime Minister of lebanon can leave saudi arabia whenever he wishes. The secretary says he hopes he will do so if he wants to, to return to lebanon and help them assembly a new government there. This proxy fight between iran and saudi arabia is moving beyond lebanon. Its in syria, yemen. Over the weekend saudi arabia intercepted a missile fired at its capital from yemen. Saudi arabia is fighting iranbacked rebels in yemen and the saudi government claims it was an act of war by iran. Tillerson says it appears iran provided the missile in yemen. Us the us has yet to confirmed that. Jon rich, thank you. Melissa there is no decision yet in the corruption trial of senator bob menendez. A dismissed jury is getting insight into the possible outcome. Some republican lawmakers want roy moore to drop out of alabamas upcoming special election. This after Sexual Misconduct claims from years ago surfaced against the senate candidate. But is it too late to replace him . Karl rove joins us next to discuss. Including worsening of symptoms. Serious allergic reactions can occur. Nows your chance at completely clear skin. Just ask your doctor about taltz. Jon Republican Senate candidate roy moore is denying allegations of Sexual Misconduct with minors from decades ago. The new report published in the Washington Post comes one month before a special election in alabama. Top gop lawmakers and the president calling for moore to stand down if the allegations are true. However, a state law would prevent the removal of moores name from the ballot even if he did choose not to run. In a 2014 memorandum written by his former opponent Luther Strange could keep him out of the running as well. Joining us now karl rove former deputy chief of staff to former george w. Bush. Alabama law says if it is 76 days or less before an election, you cannot remove a candidate from the ballot, right . Thats right. So even if roy moore were to admit the charges were true and withdraw his name would still appear on the ballot. Absentee ballots are sent out. Somebody could run a writein campaign but this state isnt used to that. Some states like alaska, this has happened before. But not in alabama. Jon the fact that his former opponent Luther Strange, the man who was appointed to fill the senate seat by vacated by Jeff Sessions and lost in the primary to roy moore, Luther Strange wrote part of that law when he was the attorney general for the state of alabama. Thats weird but its not nefarious. He didnt write the law. He said you couldnt if you lost a primary you could then replace somebody on the ballot. You can run as a writein candidate but alabama has no tradition of this. Jon there are it has royleed this race and some republicans are suggesting that moore should step aside. But i dont know, give me your take on these charges coming out three decades after they supposedly took place. Look, first of all this is troubling. The charge is that there are four teenagers take roy moore, then in his early to mid 30s, developed a relationship. One was 14, the other three were between 16 and 18. And the story is pretty compelling. None of these women stepped forward on their own. They all were sought out. None of them were seeking press but found by reporters. There is validation from comments that they made to other people at the time that they told that they were in a relationship including parents and friends. There is a pattern. These women dont know each other but there is a similar pattern how they were approached and what transpired and the prime witness who was then 14 years old and now 53 is really authentic. Now, in the there wont be a court here because the 14yearold is the only one which there was a legal violation and the statute of limitations ran out a long time before. But there will be a court of Public Opinion and the question is going to be this is a deep red state. Alabama over the last several decades the average republican candidate for senator, governor or statewide office has won by on average over 20 points. So the democrat had a steep hill to climb. This may be a narrower race but there may be a lot of people in alabama. Weve seen it Party Leaders have said this is nobodys business but ours in our state. The Washington Post we dont trust them and think theyre telling the truth and were going to vote for judge moore no matter what happens. Everybody in washington can go to hell is what theyre basically saying. Jon let me read part of the Campaign Official response to this. I think its important. The paper goes on to say the Campaign Says he has been a candidate in four hotly contested statewide political contests twice as a governor candidate and twice as a candidate for chief justice, a threetime candidate for local office, National Figure in two groundbreaking religious fights. After over 40 years of Public Service if any of these allegations were true they would have been made public long before now. Thats the response from the campaign. Last thought, karl. This is an ugly situation. He is not going to withdraw from the ballot. My sense is the race will be very close. It could be enough to tip the vote. But even if he wins, which i suspect is likely in this deep red state these charges and allegations about his behavior involving a foundation that he and his family controlled are going to dog him in the United States senate if he were to win the election. We havent seen the end of the story. It wont end on december 12th with the outcome of the election even if he wins. Jon karl rove joining us today from austin. Thank you, charl. Attorney office is charging a ceo of one Major Medical company alleging he was bribing doctors to prescribe his medicine. The latest to be arrested as prosecutors try to make big business 74yearold john kapor resigned from the board of his company, this happened in october following his arrest. Accused in this conspiracy to offer kickbacks to doctors who would then prescribe the companys fentanylbased spray to ease the pain of cancer patients. Practitioners were pushed to prescribe this powerful narcotic to people who did not need it and the man knew. The crime here was trying to profit for mr. Kapor to line their pockets by bribing doctors to prescribe to people for it not intended to be used. The company acknowledged they are in talks with the government to find a resolution. They have set aside 150 million. What they describe as the companys best estimate of minimum liability exposure which brings us to another part of this story, the civil side. There are more than two dozen states, cities or counties that have chosen to sue essentially to go after the big pharmaceutical manufacturers, distributors and drugstore chains seeking damages to cover the cost of the Opioid Crisis to their communities. The latest community to do that is quincey, massachusetts. Theyve seen the Overdose Deaths climbing there. 42 lives lost last year, 27 people have died so far this year. Whether its the manufacturers, distributors, to some degree into the medical profession it was often Loosey Goosey for a long time even after we continued to see and learn of the crisis. Quincey leaders want to see accountability in this case. Melissa. Melissa molly, thank you. Jon well, hollywood rocked again as comedian faces allegations of Sexual Misconduct. What the District Attorney is doing with the wave of allegations. President trump coming facetoface with Vladimir Putin at a summit in vietnam. Why the spotlight is intensifying on their relationship still ahead. Jon just in the department of Homeland Security issue an updated terror bulletin. It highlights the threat of chemical weapons and continued targeting of commercial airplanes and drones. Elaine duke says the update comes as terrorists are constantly adapting. Melissa fox news alert on a relationship under the microscope for sure. President trump and Vladimir Putin shaking hands and exchanging greetings during a photo op at the Asia Pacific Economic cooperation summit in vietnam. Their brief meeting coming amid speculation whether they would have any kind of a meeting on the sidelines there. Earlier the white house said that is not likely. There is no formal meeting or anything scheduled for them. They will be in the same place so theyll bump into each other and say hello is certainly possible and likely. In terms of a scheduled formal meeting there is not one on the calendar. Melissa what can we make of all this . Christopher Swift NationalSecurity Studies professor at georgetown university. Do you think they will get together and have a meeting, have a drink and coffee, sit down, shake hands, something . I think its likely they will get together. I think it is unlikely that well get much insight into the content of that meeting. These informal conversations on the sidelines of International Meetings and summits is par for the course in international politics. We shouldnt be surprised by it. What is surprising here is the passive aggressive way the Russian Foreign ministry has been describing it saying there would be a meeting and then saying there wouldnt be a meeting. Set up to embarrass the president. This give and take is part of a normal what we normally see and shouldnt be surprised if the two sit down and have a cup of coffee. Melissa we may not know about it or what is said. So we will see. There are reports right now, though, that the u. S. This is the motorcade i want to mention here. The motorcade going by, the president is in right now. So the reports of the u. S. And russia are nearing an agreement on how to resolve the Syrian Civil War now that isis is out of the area. Melissa, those reports are nice and weve been seeing similar reports for the last six months every couple of weeks we hear how they are making progress. If you look on the ground in syria, the situation fundamentally hasnt changed. Isis is much weaker than it used to be. There are many other bad actors operating in syria. And if you look at where the United States and russia are with respect to syria policy, the kremlin backs the assad regime, the United States backs the rebels that are not connected to isis and al qaeda. And those positions havent fundamentally changed and the war doesnt show signs of stopping any time soon. Melissa i was reading an interesting article about president Vladimir Putin now trying to turn those election meddling charges back on the u. S. Saying that the u. S. Meddled in their elections via the doping scandal at the olympics. What do you know about that story . A lot of pushback within russia about the International Investigation into russian athletes doping. It was something that came as the result of a whistleblower by a senior russian official who spoke to the new New York Times undermining sportsmanship in the russian federation. The United States didnt start it. We reported on it heavily because we care about the integrity of our own athletes and when they go to other sports forums everyone is playing on a level playing field. Melissa what advice would you give the president about his relationship with Vladimir Putin at this point . Were at a point where it seems like the two men are sizing each other up. They have a Long Distance to go together. What would you tell them . There is a Long Distance between u. S. And russian priorities in the world right now. If you look at the Obama Administration and the bush administration, both of them started off thinking that they could do better with putin than their predecessor. Both of them halfway through their administrations realized the putin regime is set up in a particular way that makes it very difficult for them to deal with. And so the recommendation i would give President Trump is dont make the mistake that your predecessors made. Dont assume the russian government is going to work with you on everything. There are some places where the president is going to need to take a stand and be very tough with the russian federation. There are other instances where our interests align and we should be very practical and pragmatic. Achieving that balance is hard for most u. S. President s to do and most havent done it well. It is particularly tricky for mr. Trump given the difficulties he is facing here at home. Melissa it seems like there are a lot of places where the interests are completely opposite. Where do you see them aligning around the world right now . Look, at the end of the day the russian government has an interest in a Stable International system. They have the challenge of domestic terrorism within their own country. Its something they emphasize when talking with us about Counter Terrorism operations. They have an interest in a stable europe and chinas growth and development being stable. They have an interest in making the United Nations system work. The United States has an interest in all of those things as well. The trick is when russia tries to get one up over its neighbors in europe and one up over us as well. And thats one place where the Trump Administration needs to be very clear minded and very pragmatic and take a stand where its appropriate. The russian government respects leaders that take a stand on their fundamental interests because they do the same when they feel pushed. Melissa lots of great insight. Thanks, appreciate it. Jon new Sexual Harassment accusations have surfaced in the entertainment world. This time Comedian Louis c. K. Is the target. Five women coming forward with claims of Sexual Misconduct and abuse. Were live from the west coast bureau. This morning the orchard, the Distribution Company behind louis c. One incident involving a young comedian seemed to be acknowledged by one of the executive producers of the show she was working on with louis c. K. As to reports of a longstanding dispute with the attacker, the pauls have had no conversations with him in many years. The first conversation with the attacker came after senator pauls ribs were broken. Jon breaking now, a small town newspaper publisher writing an oped after breaking ranks with the Mainstream Media and endorsing President Trump when he was a candidate back a year or more ago. Well that publisher is inviting big Media Outlets over for a visit to clear the air of any preconceived notions they might have about trump supporters. He writes, i dont know whether most of the journalists who come here have predetermined ideas of what they will find. Perhaps if theyve read some of the analysis from the left as what defines a trump supporter, instead they discover a landscape that is breathtaking in its physical beauty and residents who are welcoming, industrious, interesting and opinionated. People are wellinformed and ready to defend politics while simultaneously respecting the opinions of visitors with different viewpoints. Joining us now the president of District Media group and a senior Political Correspondent for bustle. Comp. The publisher has gotten a lot of visitors. Japanese television, for instance, has come to his Little Corner of southwestern ohio to see what he is talking about. This is part of the after effect of the election when people turn around and look to each other and said how could the polling be so far off . Who are the massive droves of people who came out in support of the president . Some of the generalizations in that article, the more negative firms how the voters can be described of course there is room for all kinds of voters in the trump tent. Weve seen a lot of people who voted on repealing obamacare and cutting taxes. It is important to understand the whole coalition of voters when you make sense of what is going on in american politics today. Jon 76 of the people in his county in southwest ohio voted for donald trump and from the sounds of things they still like what the president is doing today. Are the big east coast, west coast media missing that story . I think so. I applaud the ohio times gazette for extending this meet and greet. I think as americans this is what we should be doing is getting to understand each other because as you mentioned, trump voters often have these negative labels attached to them. When you meet a trump voter you realize there is a variety of reasons whether or tax reform that were talking about, whether its being tired of politics as usual. I love that this is what the newspaper is doing and what the town is doing and i hope many reporters take them up on it and report the truth about what a trump voter really is. Jon he says the folks in his particular corner of ohio, erin, blame politics as usual for obstructing the things the president wants to get done. Its a huge challenge for President Trump. He has pushed his agenda. He said i want a massive infrastructure bill, tax reform. A border along the southern wall with mexico but without cooperation and support from republicans in congress we arent seeing any of those come to fruition. He will run on this in a couple of years. They have to see some progress. Jon at the same time, erin, the president according to the latest polls has only Something Like an Approval Rating in the high 30s, 36, 38 . That is typically not something that wins reelection. Is that another example of the media and polls missing the point or missing some of the real feelings out there . Look at the exit polling from virginia. The voters who exited tuesdays vote 50 said that President Trump was a factor in how they voted. Here is the problem for republicans. The number, half of them there said that they voted for the democratic candidate and when you see this kind of momentum going toward the democrats thats when you see the effect of the president s Approval Rating. Jon all right. Beverly. Lets look at another story that has caught our radar. Russian Television Network rt has agreed to register with the u. S. As a foreign agent. Reportedly after months of fighting with the justice department. Kind of interesting that in this landscape when the russians are accused of trying to meddle with the election one of their Media Outlets has to register as a foreign agent. Is that appropriate . When you look at the investigation. It came out in january there were concerns about not just financial ties but legal ties to the kremlin. So i think there are some legs in the doj story. I understand why theyre fighting it so hard. We have more russian news these days than weve had since the cold war era. When you take a look at Hillary Clinton and the dnc ties to the russian dossier i understand why rt is fighting as hard as they are. I would give it to the doj. They have concerned and i think we should take that seriously. Jon you know, were a country that values freedom of the press. What about freedom of the Russian Press . Were also a country that has a law on the books saying if youre operating as an arm of a Foreign Government you have to register with the doj. Thats what is being imposed here. The cosmopolitan issued a ban. He became drunk and disorderly while on casino property wednesday. Simpsons attorney denies the claims and says drug and alcohol tests taken the next day were negative. An attorney for the casino says if simpson returns he could be arrested for trespassing. You might remember he was paroled from a nevada prison just last month after serving nine years for his part in an armed robbery. Melissa the world of sports could take a major financial hit if the republican tax reform bill passes because one version of it eliminates a key feature that has been used in financing stadiums. Now professional and College Athletics are bracing for a big loss in their bottom line. Were live in los angeles with the details. William. Lets start with the big one. Most stadiums and sports arenas are built with federal subsidies financed with taxexempt bonds. The federal government collects no tax on the interest like a corporate bond. Yankee stadium costs more than 2 billion. Built in part with the taxexempt bonds. Federal taxpayers lost 400 million in revenue. In the last 15 years federal taxpayers helped build 36 stadiums losing 3 to 4 billion. The financing is a huge savings for the owners and cities. Prior to the 50s, sports stadiums were built with private, not public money. Under current law, citizens around the country are essentially subsidizing the movement of private sports franchises from one location to another and there is no economic or i would say political or fairness reason to justify that. But city an nfl officials argue that new construction like the stadium proposed for las vegas and renovations promote economic growth. These buildings and facilities are used for a lot more than to house eight foot ballgames a year or 41 basketball games a year. There are concerts, conventions, car shows, there are all types of activities that go into these stadiums and to these arenas. So there are also two provisions in the house proposal affecting college sports. One slaps a 20 tax on nonprofit salaries over a million. That targets those elite division 1 coaches. Another eliminates 80 tax break on donations that alumni use to buy season tickets. The booster money pays for the coaches being targeted but also pays for nonrevenue sports. We understand with these proposals they are still on the table in the college one. Now, in the senate version, that tax break on taxes and bonds is out.
