We were told by senate staff are that they anticipate that Jared Kushner will be on the senate side from 12 hours answering questions from the democratic side and the republican side. They were not anticipating that senators would actually be present for the question and answer session. Earlier today, Jared Kushner and his Team Released a statement for the record if you will that the context during the campaign and during the transition period, he said that he had forwarded contacts with the russians, but no nothing improper. I will read one section for you here. It states in part, i did not collude or know of anyone else in the campaign who colluded with any Foreign Government. I had no improper contacts. And he answers questions, critics say there were omissions for security clearance, this is known as ff 86, what he states is the following. As my attorneys and i previously explained, the application was prematurely submitted due to a miscommunication and initially he did not lose any contacts with russians or with a Foreign Government officials. He said that that form was updated and there were meetings that he did declare with the russians and other foreign officials. He said that this was part of his position within the campaign. We also know that kushner will be on the house side tomorrow for another closeddoor session. And over the weekend the senior democrat outlined what he hopes to ask kushner on one of the sunday talk shows. I certainly want to know about several of the meetings that have been alleged that have taken place. Obviously the meeting with donald, jr. , and several russians that we know were in that meeting. But also his meaning that was taking place with the head of the ev bank. At the sanctioned russian bank. As well as the conversation with the secret back channel to russia. So congressman said in that interview that Jared Kushners lawyer, part of me had told them that he would make his client available for 12 hours. And he said that this may be the first question and answer session on the house side. Jon Catherine Herridge horus. We dont know if we will be voting on the house bill, the first version of the senate bill. The second version of the senate bill. A new version, or 2015 bill that would have repealed the Affordable Care act now and said that somehow we will figure out a replacement over the next two years. I dont think that that is a good approach to facing legislation that affects millions of people and won six of the economy. The real question is, what are we moving to . What are we opening debate too . Last week Senate Leadership said it would be a clean repeal like the 2015 bill, in fact, the 2015 bill that we all voted for. I think thats a good idea. Jon joining us now bret baier, anchor of special report. There will be a vote, but what are they voting on . Exactly, a lot of senators are asking that question. Into the hand is Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnells to play, and we do not have the details as of yet. It seems that the 2015 street repeal bill is the vehicle by which they are going to vote to see if it starts the procedure on the floor to get that bill to the floor. And then opening it up for all kinds of amendments that change that bill. Right now there are still three republican senators who have said that they are not going to move forward with the procedural vote to get to the floor. Included in there is Susan Collins from maine. So you have in there, and there you see the three senators who have already said that they are not going to move forward. And this is a major issue. You are going to hear from the president today. I think with a similar message as his tweet last night which was if republicans dont repeal and replace the disastrous obamacare, the repercussions will be far greater then any of them understand. Jon is that a threat . I can be read as a threat from the president or simply the fact that the politics of not passing anything are not good. I think it is a mix of both. I think he has been pushing this, he has been talking about it. And this afternoon i think about 3 15 after the meeting, what he calls obamacare victims, he will then speak out again. This is significant because there has not been a major piece of legislation that has made it to the president s desk. He has had, i am holding a pen here. I am waiting to sign it. I think that he is going to continue to put the pressure on. Which is interesting because the senators will have to go home to constituents and explain what has or has not been done. Jon and the prospect of heading to the august recess without having passed a single major piece of legislation, there have been no health care bills, obviously. No tax reform, no infrastructure bill, which is something that even democrats could get on board with. That does not look good for the folks back home. It doesnt. There is no budget budget as of yet. And i think there are real questions as to how that is going to move forward, likely ending up with a shortterm, stopgap legislature in september. There has to be a page back home, especially for the republicans up for reelection in 2018. Jon but there is a lot of interparty squabbling part of the three senators, the three senators that you mentioned earlier have signified that they are not on board with any kind of repeal bill without some kind of replacement. But when you coming to the details of replacement, it gets very complicated. In the party seems to be all over the map as to what should be in some kind of replacement measure. So barring any action, lets say that they do not get to the vote, they are going to try to move on to tax reform. That will require another vehicle to get some kind of incoming to make up for what they were planning to have a lower tax rates from the health care bill. So, i think that it will be an effort to immediately turn as fast as they can to getting tax reform. And that is also not exactly not complicated to let. And i think about every single day there is some kind of distraction that is getting in the wake of us getting an infrastructure bill passed and putting people back to work addressing the crumbling infrastructure or making sure that people have a shot adds good pain, shoulder fulltime jobs as to too many people working parttime. Melissa there are so many people that share that goal. The question is how you get there . Thats where they seem to diverge the most. And one of the approaches in the last direction was that the democrats are the party of the 1 . They have flipped roles with the republicans. It used to be very wealthy ceos were all republicans. If you look at wall street or the heads of companies, silicon valley, or the very rich elite in san francisco, they are all democrats. Maybe that is a problem with trying to get in touch with working people and the people that President Trump tapped into is that democrats now are so geared towards the wealthy 1 , what do you think . And i won 520 points. I bring that up, because i have focused on jobs in the economy. To your characterization that the democrats have become the party of the elites, i dont agree with that. But i think that we need to hearken back to the days where people understand that democrats are the party that five her hardworking men men and women. Melissa what are the policies that you would put forward that would be different than what President Trump is saying that will work economically for the working class and the vast majority of people . We will focus on 10 million good paying fulltime jobs. Through job training, and Apprenticeship Programs. Not only making sure that people have a wage where they can buy a kids issues they want as opposed to the issues they need, and buy a new pickup truck every several years, but how we get to that is through the training for the 21st century jobs. We also have to take a look at the expense is that people Prescription Drug costs, they are going up exponentially. We have to address that. We have to address the fact that copays and deductibles and premiums are way too high. I stand here ready to say that i will work with you, President Trump, and the republicanled house. Melissa it does sound like you are working with the president , because he was pretty cold for apprenticeships, the knock on that was that they are trying to file people into jobs that are mediocre, and rather than shooting for the stars. He said that you need to follow the German Program where people are trained for the jobs that exist by their own choosing. And they want to do these things. Here in new york it is really profitable to be a plumber, and a plumbers Apprenticeship Program and hundreds of people that sleep overnight in order to get to that program. So you support those ideas of the president . I absolutely support the idea of creating apprenticeships where the Technical Schools are in the room with employers who cannot fill jobs that they have open. I did a roundtable discussion with the small of manufacturers, and asked every single one, how many of you have jobs that you cannot fill . Every single hand went out. I think the apprenticeship idea is a good one. I am the mother of a welder, and he is fortunate enough that he is with the sheet Metal Workers and has a good job. I know there are so many people who have or want those skills, and there are jobs that still need to be filled. It is partnering all of those folks together. Melissa it makes a lot of sense. Many of us like him. But he has a problem, and that is the guy that he is trying to sell, and i think everybody wants a new relationship, but the guy that he is trying to sell still things that he is his own best communications person. The problem is not communications, the problem is a message from the messenger. Because donald trump has a way of getting in the way of his own message. Now can Anthony Scaramucci because he knows him and he knows how to handle him, they are the same kind of guy, can he make a difference . Clearly the white house hope so, but he has no experience in this kind of communication. Jon take that up. Criticize last week from and that is said to be the reason that sean spicer resigned, because he felt that Anthony Scaramucci does not have the experience for the job. That also was the argument against the president himself. Who has the experience, and there is a reason when you look around with all the experts over the last two decades into the country in the world is a dumpster fire. Maybe its time to get people who have a general world experience a chance. Sean spicer is supposed to have all of the expertise in the world. And he was demoted during the primary campaign, because of how much he botched up the republican primary debate. So this is a fellow who while he had experience, the media felt that they could bully him. Anthony scaramucci is not somebody you are going to be able to bully. He does know the president. That is helpful. We know that this is a new world where the old rules do not apply. He is a good communicator. But we know, i have to disagree a little bit. I dont think that they want a better relationship. The media wants to be able to control the narrative, if you will. They want to be able to overwhelm the spokes person, the communications director. We will see how Sarah Huckabee sanders does. But we are looking at somebody remaking the nature of communication. That is the key, but he has more generous than i am with the media. A saying that he does not think it is all of the media. Maybe 10 want to report the news. That is a pretty low number. I disagree. I think the problem is that when the president says outrageous things, it is not media bias or fake news for the press to call him on that. To say, this is not true. This is not standard. But this is the problem is that there is so little trust in the media now that youre looking at people, they see the media and the assessment of the president as bias. They are turning out and making their own decisions. Thats why having a messenger and the messaging system that goes over the Mainstream Media is key. It has been a very long time when it comes to the issue of judgment and who it is making the assessment of whether or not the president is being unfair or if this is just the nature of a different kind of communication that speaks directly to the people. Jon go back to the opening day of the administration when the president and his press secretary pick a fight over the media over the size of the inaugural crowd. That was the first issue that they brought to the press. Dement had hurt them . I dont think so. I think thats where they look at certain elements that are indicative of the nature of whether the media will present something as false. I do think that Anthony Scaramucci was an office that point, that likely would have not happened. You have sean handling both jobs at the time. Then michael of the regrowth organization. Republicans in general, i think judy will agree with me, experts on communication in general. But if you get into individuals recognize that we want to stand up for ourselves, get the truth out while pointing out what the media has been doing, the republicans have never really done that. It is time not only to do it, but to continue the confrontation of this dynamic. I think that Ronald Reagan was not a bad communicator. I think some republicans understand how the media works and how the number one rule is dont lie to us. When you start lying to us, we are not going to cover for you. And i think that if Anthony Scaramucci can have that rule above all, i will not lie to the press, he will learn a lot of respect. If not, there are going to be problems. There is a difference between lying and having a different perspective. No, no, the number of people on the lawn that day as dent not a different perspective. There are intellectual conversations and debates, what the American People are seen, and the American People do not trust the media for a reason. And hopefully that will get better. Authority saying that a tenth person has died. After dozens of people were discovered packed into a sweltering tractor trailer in san antonio. Some of them have been children. The fact of the matter is from the beginning authorities warned us that the death toll could rise, because at least 20 of the victims were taken to area hospitals in very, very critical condition. Two have died at the hospital. A tech died at the scene. So the death toll is now at ten. By the time that authorities arrived at the walmart parking lot in san antonio where the 18wheeler full of human cargo was discovered. Many witnesses say about 100 people were crammed into the big rig with no water, no air conditioning, as outside temperatures soared above triple digits. Most of the victims mexican and guatemalan. And they believe that the truck was headed to houston. Of those that were healthy enough fled the scene before Law Enforcement and immigration arrived. Checking the video from the store we found that there were a number of vehicles that came in and picked up a lot of the folks that were in that trailer. That survived the trip. We are looking at Human Trafficking crime here. A 64yearold florida man was arrested. Prosecutors believe that he was likely the trucks driver. This is video of him, brandnew, arriving at the courts this morning for his first appearance before a judge. Dozens of people gathered at a prayer vigil to pay their respects. A new york judge ordering two of Robert Dursts friends to testify. Facing murder charges for the death of his friend, susan berman. 17 years ago susan berman was killed in her home, prosecutors believe that durst was afraid she knew too much about the disappearance immense a disappearance of his first wife. Back in 1992. He apparently told a mutual friend that he had killed her. Eight months ago durst was arraigned, he pled not guilty to murder charges. It is unlikely that he will stand trial before 2018, and the judge has allowed early testimony from several elderly witnesses and of those who fear for their safety. Emily altman scheduled to appear at a hearing to testify against her friend. Joining us now, former defense attorney, criminal defense attorney. It is hard to follow all of this. But there are those of us who have watched the case with fascination. Because it has so many twists and turns. I will start with you. These two friends that are going out to testify. Everybody who has had evidence of this guy turns up dead. So the idea that they want to get the testimony on the record as soon as possible make all kinds of sense. These are friends that are going to testify to what . That he told them that he killed some of these people . These two people say that robert durst confessed to them that he killed susan bermna. The one that he is on trial for now. Because all of the trials get a little bit confusing. Melissa when they may have killed his wife, susan berman knew or he confessed to her. And she winds up dead. She protected him and wound up dead. Melissa its not safe to have one of his secrets. So they are going to say that he confessed that he killed this friend. Now that does not make the case by any means a slam dunk, melissa. Because even if this is a pretrial hearing. If it gets in the actual hearing, you are going to be able to test the credibility of the witnesses as they testify now. 17 years old, why are you coming forward now as recently as the jinx was playing. Why did you remain friends with him if you knew he was a murderer . There are a lot of ways that the defense is going to attack. Melissa on the flip side what does he have to gain by testifying . Everybody else who testifies winds up dead, why would they come forward and lie . They want to say, this is what i know, hopefully we will get police protection. Everybody in this mans life ends up dead. If you know something about him, its almost like the sopranos, if you know something, im going to knock you off. Thats what he is accused of doing. Melissa it could just be an incredible coincidence. But back to for people who watch the jinx going through the evidence, and in this particular case, there was a note i went to the police to alert the police in los angeles at this moment we are talking about now, susan berman was dead in her home. On that note on the front it was addressed to the Beverly Hills police department. And beverly was missed spelled. They found robert durst misspelled it in the exact same handwriting.
