Rocrock fell rockefeller cenr its been snowing and sleeting and raining and thundering. Look at the picture from central park. This is a skycam look. Theyre doing a little bit of plowing. This is central new jersey, these pictures in from social media, you can see theyve got widespread flooding tides are coming in couple of feet higher. For new york city, two feet not happening. Five inches in central park, assessment in hells kitchen, its like that. We getting sleet and snow and sleet again. That should continue for the next three hours. Six to ten inches. Less south along the south shore. North and west still really big. Take a live look rockaway beach, queens new york. You can see it is a frozen nasty icy mess in the rockaways in new york. Lets go up to boston, national Weather Service predicting 8 to 12 inches there. Just a couple of inches around chatham. In the west, amherst, 12 to 18. Up in worthington, 18 to 24 inches. Worst of it all is inland. Lets see how much more it s coming. D. C. , almost over. Another inch main. Philly one to three, new york another two to four before sun set tonight. 6 to 10 more in boston. Inland 12 to 18 more in poconos. For most airports theyre open and operating. Rob smith down in union square in new york city. How is this there rob . Reporter its still that sample of Winter Weather that were getting here. Its kind of little bit of snow kind of sleet. Its just small little pellets. They were blowing harder little bit ago. It was miserable here for about an hour. The city is shut down mode. People werent expecting the storm to be this light. You got five to six inches of snow. Normally people will be going to work. I think they were scared off by the predictions of the storm from new york city. It moved a little bit away from us. That is spared millions of people. They stayed home. Thats the way it is. Lot of the resources that we using here no new york have been moved to up central new york. Reporter couple of feet indeed. Thanks. The truth is, they put the plows out overnight so they can deal with this morning. The morning commute in new york city has not been bad. The subways remain open. This is my pooch, she is pride of grenwitch village. Shes going to pause. You know whats about to happen. Its time. Theres a little snow. Time to relieve ourselves. Shes a good girl. Looking pretty good today. Thank you. The white house firing back against the Congressional Budget Offices report on the republican Healthcare Plan. The cbo finding 24 million americans would lose their insurance over the next decade. But the health and Human Services secretary says thats not the case. Chief White House Correspondent john roberts is live in washington. Who do we listen to here . Reporter pick your politics. Thats who you listen to. The white house for its part pushing back hard against the cbo report. The reason why is found in the number. The number that the white house likes, 337 billion thats the amount of money that the government would save between 2017 and 20 2026. The white house applauding that one. But the numbers white house doesnt like, here they come, 14 million and 24 million. Those are the number of people that will be uninsured immediately after this plan goes into effect. Because the individual mandate will be lifted. Which the cbo says, would encourage 14 Million People to drop their Health Insurance immediately. By the year 2026 that number will grow to 14 million. The white house not buying it. They will make Health Insurance attract. Heres the other number that the white house doesnt like. 15 to 20 . Thats the amount of premium increase single people, people who have a Single Health plan not group affiliated plan will experience in 2018 and 2019 those premium will decrease in 2020. The reason why, states will get grants to Pay Insurance Companies for people who are in high risk pools. Yesterday the president meeting for the members of the cabinets, suggesting that the health plan to change substantially before its voted on by the full house of representatives. Were negotiating with everybody. Its a big fat beautiful negotiation. Hopefully well come up with something thats beginning to be really terrific. Reporter it is a big fat beautiful negotiation according to the president. But one group that hes going to have wait it would over is the woo over is the Freedom Caucus. They supposed to come over for bowling and pizza. Listening to Freedom Caucus member, jim jordan, its going to take more than an evening of bowling to win them over. Theres a reason everyone major conservative organization in the country is opposed to this legislation. Every conservative healthcare policy that expert i talked to has concerns. Five conservative senators have problems with this legislation. Bunch of us conservative in the house dont like this legislation. Its got problems. Reporter the president going to keep up the sales pitch. Hell be talking on telephone. Here in washington with the head of anthem healthcare speaking on the phone with the speaker of the house paul ryan and House Majority leader kevin mccarthy. Even though the snow is slowing us down here, the president going to be working the phones very hard. Looking to those pictures reminding of the huskies go. Exactly. Thank you so much. Looks beautiful though. Reporter it is pretty here. Jon no huskies on the white house lawn. For more on the political impact of the cbo report, were joined by associate editor for real clear politics. Also susan crabtree. The headline today are pretty scary. 24 Million People are going to lose healthcare under the proposal. This according to the Congressional Budget Office. Nonpartisan. How does the gop try to counteract the impact of those headlines . I think theres a lot of disinformation here. The 14 million in the first year, the cbo the headlines are saying, are laws losing their healthcare. The cbo said they will be voluntarilvoluntarily giving ite they would no longer have the individual mandate making them to buy Health Insurance. This will be an individual choice. The problem arise as you look into the future, ten years down the road p you will see the other people losing their healthcare coverage. Its about the Medicaid Expansion. The freedom that this bill would give states to decide on their own how to handle that weather theyre going to cap benefits, which it does and whether theyre going to provide for greater expansion of medicaid as some case needed. Real problem comes over the next ten years. The headlines democrats oseizing on this. Joe manchin a bloody act to healthcare. Youre going to have a real problem with the house gop and the senate gop leader have a real problem with the senate and house to pass it by april. I dont see it. Jon its all politics. Its about perception. The perception steams to be that this is going to be a horrible thing. Right. Messaging susan points out facts about the number behind the cbo score. The bottom line is there are two messages coming from help republicans. The cbo score was wrong before. Two the mandate by releasing people from the mandate, the numbers will drop. Coverage doesnt equal care. All of that is true. People who are covered under obamacare cannot afford to go to the doctor. How covered really are they . These are true facts. But its really muddled messaging. Versus the democrats message this represents a loss of coverage. This represents higher cost for seniors and this represents a tax cut for the healthy. Its a very clean and powerful thing they will use against the republicans. Its going to be a better perception than it is for this explaining that the republicans are caught in on other side. Susan is right. The divide between just in the Republican Party where theres news out on politico, white house is dealing with the Freedom Caucus making promises about ending Medicaid Expansion before early next year. Thats a deal breaker for moderate republican and people from states like ohio and senator rob portman. We will not do that. Well cut too many people off the rolls. How you get chamber passing this bill. Looks improbable. Jon they say it will save 337 billion. You can buy a lot of healthcare with that. I would say that the House Republicans, democrats are saying this is a tax cut. The House Republicans love those numbers. Internally the real problem that were seeing down the road here is that theres the house and senate are completely divided. Even in the republican leadership. Theres divisions. The house Freedom Caucus is pushing outside consumer groups are pushing the senate to blow up their rules. They say they are hiding behind their own senate rule and overturn the parliamentarian. They can get through a more conservative bill. Rip out the individual mandate completely. And of course, the institutionalist and Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell is reluctant to do that. That would cause enormous precedent down the road. Theyre basically so far apart on house and senate. I dont see how 337 billion tax cuts is going to get them to pass a bill. You have susan combs last night saying this was eye popping. The house needs to return to her bill. A more moderate version. I think donald trump might be happy that hes not going to have to face the house Freedom Caucus tonight in the bowling tournament. That will get pushed down the road. Jon i call it 337 billion tax cut. Its a projected reduction in the deficit. Susan crabtree, thank you both. The Justice Department is asking for more time to turn over evidence on President Trumps claim that president obama ordered wiretaps on him at trump tower before the election. How lawmakers are responding to that request next. Heather several republicans calling for special committee to investigate any ties between president Trumps Campaign team and russia. The Justice Department tells lawmakers it needs more time to gather information about president obama President Trump claim that president obama tapped his phone. Lets bring in the Vice President of research at the foundation for defense of democracy. Thank you very much for joining us. My pleasure. Heather not a lot of agreement so far. They have managed to agree on the scope of the investigation. Theyve also agreed on the witness list and initial list for this public hearing which will be held on monday. Beyond that, is this investigation headed on a collision course . I would say theres some real questions right now about how the United States and russia could possibly get along. I dont think theres any question at this point that the russians tried to meddle in our political system in our democratic process. I think there is a question of what the russians expect to get out of their meddling. In other words, when you look at some of the staffing that the president has brought into his National Security team, when you look at the president overall posture on iran where the russians have a partnership. Over all the way that this country views russia it seems like a long term that you would begin to see a reset between russia and the United States. Heather as you youre saying that would be a greater concern. That would be the collision course that you would be concerned about. Is russia and u. S. Alliance even possible . In my view no. At the end of the day, you see a number of indicators that things are going in the opposite direction. You certainly not going to see bipartisan support for some kind of renewed alliance. Certainly that appears to be the case now when you look at the political atmosphere in washington. The president s position on iran seems to be one of overall hostility. The iranians and russia has a partnership that doesnt appear to be something thats breakable at this point. The russians are really all in syria with the iranians. You look at for example, mcmaster at the National Security counsel, you look at mike pompeo at the cia. Heather why are we not hearing more that aspect of the trump team versus these connections that we hear about . Right now what youre looking at is a mixing bag. It could be were waiting to see where the center of gravity shifts. There are individuals who appear to have russian ties within the trump team. Does that mean that the trump is pro russia . Again, i think the story tells otherwise. I think the president may ultimately have to make a decision about which way the team goes. Heather should a Bipartisan Select Committee be chosen to investigate this . Do you think that would be the best avenue to take . This is part of our democratic process. The idea we would try to uncover what may have happened during the election, what kinds of connections did exist before the election. I dont think that theres a problem in trying to discern that. I think that ultimately, we need to be realistic about what russia would try to gain from this and whether this administration or this government more broadly, would be able to deliver that for russia. My sense is that its not possible. Heather thank you jonathan. Appreciate you joining us. Well be right back. Stay with us. Energy is amazing. How we use it is only limited by our imagination. Yeah. Jon Congressional Budget Office realizing the estimated price tag for the gop plan to replace obamacare. How are the numbers sitting with republican lawmakers who already divided . Kevin brady was one of the house lawmakers who introduces the American Healthcare act. He chairs house ways and means committee. Joins us now. You liked the numbers if terms what this proposal would do for the deficit. We do in a big way. Before republicans especially for conservatives, there are some major wins here. Huge cuts in spending from washington. Huge tax cuts that have landed on people major deficit reduction more than almost nearly a year of government deficit reduced out of here. I think the most important thing, medicaid is the Fastest Growing entitlement we have. It is exploding. Not only does that stop explosion, it reverses it, bend the cost curve just by giving states more control and flexibility. These are major achievements. Jon you also repeal a bunch of taxes through this healthcare act. What does that do for employment and job creation. Its really big. It this will grow the economy. Allly all the obamacare taxes landed on people. People who buy insurance, job creators, whether youre local Small Business or a med device maker medical device maker. Health insurance its a big drag on the economy. Washington is taking less of what people earned. Jon i mentioned this with earlier panel. When headline in the New York Times said 24 Million People will lose their Health Insurance as a result of of this proposal. How do you as an advocate of this bill, how do you counter that . It is not easy. Heres the question. Why . Why arent they being covered. The answer lie it is this lies in this report. When americans are free to not buy healthcare, they dont want and cant afford, they choose to exercise that freedom. Next year, its is a good example, with medicaid the way it is today. Obamacare the way it is today, except one difference, people will not be forced into the plan. 11 million americans say thanks but no thanks. We dont want this anyway. It confirms what i heard, most republicans back home from our people who just say, i dont want to be in this plan. I cant afford it. It doesnt work for me. I need out. Thats what this report confirms. Jon youre getting fire from senators like Chuck Schumer from nancy pelosi and republican senators tom cotton. How does the Republican Party get everybody on bard to support this . I think we can. I think what we unite upon is much greater than what divides us in this. We have some ideas that have been brought to us. I can work with house conservatives to make major changes. People who want to slow this down, who think after seven years, that we shouldnt repeal and shouldnt begin restore control in the free market. I think they are disconnected from where our constituents want solve these remaining problems lets act. As the president says, no more excuses. No more talking. Jon i will give you last 30 seconds. How do you sell them on this plan . Look. If youre tired of higher taxes, higher government spending, more mandates and government directing your healthcare, interfearing between you and your doctor and that relationship, its time to act. If you want to see more state and personal control of healthcare, this is the bill to do it. Jon kevin brady republican of texas. Thank for spending time with us today. Much more west, foot to 18 inches in redding, p. A. Up in new york city, they predicted two feet. Its not happening. Four inches plus in central park. Six out in laguardia. Less on the south shore of long island. Still two feet with blizzard conditions. Lets go up to boston driving along i495, national Weather Service predicting eight to 12inches in boston. Look at how much more is to come. D. C. Youre finished. Philly another one to three. Its up to 32 degrees here. Mostly rain. Boston much more to come. Adam some changes . Youre right. Jon republican senator tom cotton of arkansas calling on his colleague to rethink their plans for replacing obamacare. Cotton says they do not get it right it could cost them the majority in 2018. That warning as Congressional Budget Office analysis of the gop plan suggests 14 million americans could lose coverage under it by next year. Lets bring in former adviser of Hillary Clinton. Welcome to potato of both of up. Richard 14 million would lose their healthcare coverage. As we just heard from kevin brady the chairman of house ways and means committee, most of that would be because they chose to do so. Look, its 24 million within ten years. Heres the problem that the Republican Party has typically. This is a big undertaking. You need president ial leadership. You just had kevin brady on. What inspiration could kevin brady take from a president who said, just last week, nobody knew how complicated healthcare could be. How depressing is that . The fact of the matter is, people could choose not to have healthcare. That doesnt mean theyre choosing not to ever get sick. Theyre going to end up in the hospital, clogging Emergency Rooms just like we had before the Affordable Care act. People dont have immunity just because the republicans passed a bill. Theyre going to get sick. That was exactly the point of getting people to bay in because the recognition is people do get sick over time. I just think on the horns of dilemma, either the republicans turn their back on these 14 or 24 Million People, say good luck charlie or, they basically kind of stay with this plan. I dont think it works either way. Jon rachel, how do republicans try to sell this plan as headlines are saying. Is going to cost some people their Health Insurance . First of all, he has no credibility. The democrat have no credibility. They gave us obamacare which is increased primaries 25, 50 and home state of arizona, 100 her year. People cant afford to use the healthcare that they have. Its really easy to give us this mess and start nitpicking people trying to fix the mess you created. Heres the deal, what is tom cottons definition of taking it slow. He said we need to do to get it right. If its two weeks, if its a month. Thats fine. I agree with that. You cant wait much longer because the republicans have a lot on their plate right now. They have tax reform, they have this healthcare bill and they also have the third part of it, which is to competition across state line and tort reform. Which will do a lot to lower costs. They have a lot on the plate. The surest way for republicans to lose majority in the house is to do nothing. They will not be able to explain to constituents how they gave them the house, the senate and the white house and they couldnt get this done. Jon as you know, President Trump has suggested just leeing obamacare collapse on its own weight and letting the democrats who passed it in the first place take the blame. Thats part of his negotiation tactic. What the senate needs to do is stop giving advice to the house and do their job. Take the house bill. Go back into the senate amend it, fix it. If goes into a conference where they can work out differences where donald trump it come in and help and get something out for the american people. This obamacare right now as it is, it is going to implode. Look, they are leading now. They need to lead. They need to realize that this is a team sport. They need to work together. Jon there are projections that republicans could lose badly if this thing isnt handled. Tom cotton said so. Do you see that . So 23 seats now held by House Republicans in districts that Hillary Clinton won. Theyre at the top tier of those we consider most vulnerable. Look, its not just tom cotton. Its Lisa Murkowski and susan collins. The list of Senate Republicans who expressed reservations about this house bill frankly is growing by the day. Just ask any House Republican thats been to a townhall of their own. Theyre having people stand up and say, i will die. You looking at a human being that will die if the Affordable Care act is repealed. Please congressman, just whatever you do, make sure you dont strip that away from me. Thats whats keeping me between standing here talking to you and being in the grave. It sounds morbid, its as simple as that. Jon rachel, how do you answer those concerns . Thats a debate going on in the house between the Freedom Caucus. The question becomes what is conservative. Is it just numbers or is it helping families have a soft landing as they move in this transition period from obamacare and centralized healthcare into Free Market Health reform situation. I personally think im a conservative, i think its a very conservative idea to give people a soft landing in that transition period. Its really hard. Theres a lot of people on the Freedom Caucus who are getting a lot of attention by being the members attacking republicans. Ive heard, by the way, members of congress who are supportive of this bill being bumped from cable news shows for Freedom Caucus members. Its just a lot more exciting to have those members on and the liberal media loves seeing them attack each other. I think its time for the republicans to realize that what i said before, politics is a team sport. Theres room to fix this. Theres time. Few weeks, or months. The blood bath will happen if they do not do this when they the opportunity. Its a team sport. You got to be on the team. If you put a vote down for something, that will cost you your seat, youre not on the team anymore. Thats the problem. Jon has widely assume that obamacare maybe the reason democrats lost the senate and house. I dont disagree with that. Jon well see what happens if they do repeal. Lets have that debate two years from that. Fascinating times. Thank you both. Heather all signs point to Interest Rate hike. After that positive jobs report that came out on friday. Com makes finding the right hotel for the right price easy. Visit booking. Com now to find out why were booking. Yeah jon get ready for a hike. The Federal Reserve expected to raise Interest Rates. The Unemployment Rate ticked lower. What does this mean for the economy and your wallet. You agree that this rate hike is coming jean . Its funny with all the yelling and screaming with healthcare, quietly crest in Interest Rates. Its going to be happening this week. It will be the first of three projected rate increases that will happen in 2017. Interest rates going up. Jon thats good news for people who save. What about people who hold mortgages or shopping for a mortgage . You know, i think its more good news than bad news. Lets talk about savers. Youre right. You put your money in your savings account. Its earning basically next to nothing. Any increase in Interest Rate will filter down to savers. Hopefully we have other options. Which is prove to be volatile and risky. I think thats a good thing for people that want to put money away in savings. Mortgage holders. For the Construction Industry in 2017, if we know right now that rates will be increasing three times throughout 2017, my bet is that a lot of people wanting to buy homes now are looking at that. Thinking i better lock in my mortgage now rather than later so i can take advantage of lower rates. I think thats a good thing for the Construction Industry. Thats a good thing for the banking industry. I think lot of Small Business clients will want to do the same thing. If you have a fixed rate mortgage, youre okay. Youre paying historically low rates now. If youre looking to buy a house or make that purchase, now is a really good time. Jon is there the prospect that this hike in rates could damage Economic Activity . Yes. People are concerned about that. People are concerned that higher Interest Rates will pull back on growth. By the way, growth in the economy really have not been that great. Its projected for 2016 Economic Growth was only about 1. 7 . Which isnt great. The fed is taking a chance. Theyre looking at unemployment. Theyre looking at high employment levels and new job data. Theyre looking at optimism in the economy and particularly along lot of businesses, both small and large. Theyre making a bet that there will be growth this year. They got to control that growth. They are concerned about inflation. They want to make sure that they keep the growth itself under some kind of control and thats important. Interest rates rising, it could goods cheaper. Lot of the stuff that we buy now are imported. The higher that Interest Rates going in the u. S. , the stronger dollar gets. The stronger dollar gets the more attractive it is for people to invest here, we have more purchasing power. Donald trump might not like that. We have a lot of discussions about trade this year. At least for consumers, at least this year, it could give us better deals and lower prices. Jon you mentioned the healthcare bill just a moment ago. We now know the numbers. Cbo having put out the price tag on the republican plan to replace obamacare. The Congressional Budget Office finds that under the American Healthcare act as proposed, millions of americans would lose or forego their Health Insurance. What would it mean for the Healthcare Market overall. Are costs going to come down . Lets talk about average americans. You and me. When you look at what our healthcare bills are and people are paying, this year, healthcare increase pretty much locked in. My prediction is that healthcare premium will continue to go up over the next couple of years. Biggest reason why its uncertainty. This republican plan is going take two to three years to eventually take effect. It it going to have a lot of effects on the market. Theres a lot of political scrambling. The Insurance Companies would have to adjust themselves. When theres uncertainty, businesses put money away for reserves and cushions. Theyre going to con so see premium increases all of us will see that over the next two to three years. After that, after 2 2020 there e winners and lawsers. People with lower income they will struggle. People that are older will find themselves having less subsidies. There is one group of people benefiting. Thats employers. When i talk to my clients, they no longer have mandate now. Its passive providing Health Insurance. They would have more flexibility and options to offer employees. They might give those employees to get more affordable healthcare. Jon could be good for job creation. Gene marks, thank you. Heather in the next hour, were expecting to hear more from the white house on healthcare. White House Press Secretary sean spicer set to hold his briefing from the we wing.
